One of my favorite things is the different textures… like my wheels are the needle. Besides the obvious adrenaline rush, where’s the gusto come from?
-
grinding concrete eg pool coping, curbs, etc
-
Jumping on cars.

This. Almost every night.

Not being able to mall grab even though it’s pretty convenient. It’s the arbitrary denial that really strums my guitar
-
having carnal knowledge of a parking lot
-
knowing that you are better than a rollerblader.

Yep, especially the kind where you put your hands down and use the momentum to slide on your butt. But this is only ideal for skateparks or spots with smooth ground.
I find the sounds of skateboarding overall pleasant. Power slides, slappies on crunchy curbs, the snap & catch, and stomped flip tricks landed bolts. Sometimes I’ll just throw on thrasher raw edits while I’m doing shit around the house because it gets me hyped

An appreciation for the absolute minutiae of architecture. Some people marvel at buildings, we'll marvel at the physical properties of a single block that the building is comprised of.
-
being able to locate certain locations in films, movies, videos, pictures (all non-skate but naturally also in skate-versions) whether they are in the US, europe, asia, or even more specific eastern europe, spain, portugal, etc. for example if you see certain cobblestones and patterns like those rectangular ones in barca or those white smaller ones in portugal or so you already know where that is. same goes for american surfaces and architectures, even if you have never been there.
also having a different perception of buildings, architecture, pavements, road surfaces and so on. i think that's pretty cool.

Interviews with Rudy Johnson. Have you eve just caught a cup?

i like looking at my slide marks and grind grooves

"Like so fuckin' chill"
One of my favourite things after stumbling across it the other week on here. Never fails to make me laugh but also can relate to it of course.
-
The sound and feel of polyurethane wheels rolling over smooth brick.
-
The sound of urethane on somewhat rough asphalt, the double take every time I drive by something that looks even semi skateable in a lurker lou way, and the way my heart skips when I see a crusty ass ditch nobody's skated yet
-
The stale urine aroma wafting from a pair of pissed on surf pants.
-
Catching flip tricks at their apex
Grinding
Knowing what's cool before the rest of the world does
-
Getting one-upped by a 12 year old
-
A good grove on a truck
ahh yes, a simple pleasure
Getting one-upped by a 12 year old
not exclusive to skateboarding, but this is happening less as time goes on and children get more and more sedentary.
-
Fart rocks
-
Feeling a trick, simple good feeling shit like a half cab and a fat pop shuv.
-
Being able to endlessly entertain myself in empty parking lot. Just hauling ass down the street
-
Being able to look at scenery/ structures and see different potential than intended purpose

Last summer I had to take a business trip to LA, my first time there. I was with a coworker.
I insisted that if we get some free time there is a place I HAVE TO see in person.
She assumed it was gonna be something fun or interesting.
She was pretty confused when we walked onto JKwon Plaza.

This is any place I ever visit with my wife. We ended up having a great time at the Melbourne Museum (the actual museum) because our Metro train was rolling past and I was like "I'VE GOTTA GET OUT AND LOOK AT THOSE LEDGES!"

Ollies, Edgers, Mobbing Through Traffic Infested City Streets With A Tight Crew, Texas Plants.
-
Skating an empty spot somewhere at night, falling down, and just laying there looking at the sky for 10 minutes.
-
having carnal knowledge of a parking lot
being hyper aware of every feature and quirk in a random parking lot or alley etc. is def a pretty unique thing that generally only skateboarders experience
-
Etnies
-
All great answers people, but the one true pleasure exclusive to skateboarding is Fred Gall.
-
Asking for a hard copy of a 7 minute video.
-
Stepping on a new deck and it instantly feels broken in
A good ollie where there’s a decent chunk of silence when you’re in the air
Serves as an easy platform to just hang out with friends, doesn’t have to be serious all the time
-
Weeving through traffic and generally being comfortable skating around the city you live in.
-
Elijah vs Austyn beef
-
Speed wobbles.
-
fast 5050s
the satisfaction of solving a physics problem with body kinetics with blood and sweat sacrifices. not exclusive to skateboarding but landing on 4 wheels and rolling away must feel better than gymnastics/blading/biking/scoots etc
-
An exhaustive list, someone should write their Phd thesis on this, but I’ll add.
Songs that immediately evoke video parts.
-
Even just watching a video part and knowing what all it took to accomplish it. You don’t see that passion in a film critic or on a cooking show, but, just watch the Nine Clubbers discussing Cookie.

Lying in bed thinking about how good a trick felt. “Taking it to the pillow” as Evan Smith says.

Lying in bed thinking about how good a trick felt. “Taking it to the pillow” as Evan Smith says.
Landing your best instance of a trick every and savoring it for weeks on end.
Caught a high speed kickflip I was casually trying a few months back, that feeling has been living on replay.

This happened to me, too. Didn't even mob it.

when you don't skate for a little while then you come back and find out who your real tricks are... this is especially pleasurable when you find that your body has retained a trick that you were just on the edge of having
-
The grind of working for a trick:
- you work on a trick for months just to get a sloppy version of it, you aren't 100% satisfied with it but fuck it you're too old to get it any better
- or sometimes a trick just clicks for you, maybe it's something you tried randomly and it turned out easier than you thought, or someone suggests a small adjustment and makes the trick so much easier
You can't force either one, all the tutorial videos and hours of iPhone footage doesn't help, then 1 day the stars align and you're 10/10 on that trick.
Or you got the trick on lock for 1 day, and the very next session you've lost it again. The skate gods are fickle like that.

Today I was cleaning out my garage in some slides and I had a mishap with a 4x8 sheet of 1/2 inch ply. The sheet fell over as I was walking near and it flipped up and scraped my right ankle despite my attempt at getting away. I didn't even really make a noise when the edge ripped a couple layers of skin open. Instead, I looked at it bleeding and mumbled to myself that it stung a little. I guess that's a pleasure.

Growing up with wholesome videos to enjoy and be inspired by. Nick Trapasso in And Now, Pat Burke in Radio Television, Dylan in Mindfield are some main ones off the top of my head from when I was like 13 that I'm just grateful to have been entertained and influenced by. Other kids were probably just watching MTV

Going out for a skate during autumn/winter in Britain and being pissed off that you have to skate a crusty old multi-storey car park because it's constantly pissing it down, but having a really good accomplished session anyway
