Heard through one of my SF writer homies that he passed away. Never been to the Bay and never met him but those aware know him and his camera played a seminal role in documenting SF skating, graffiti, and culture throughout the 90s. He will be missed.
-
Holy shit, RIP
He shot this photo of Dash Snow too, also gone way before his time

R.I.P Dave Schubert
Here is a fairly recent article that interviews him about his time in DC: https://theface.com/culture/pulaski-park-skating-90s-dave-schubert-photography-washington-dc-freedom-plaza-will-harmon-skateboarding-volume-4-issue-10
Please share any pics/vids he took and any interviews or other info? I heard his Graffiti Document zine is rad.

This is awful news. Been talking with SF friends for a few hours, reminiscing about Dave. He was not only an amazing documentarian of skate and graffiti culture, he was a true artist and a kind human being. Dave was as real as they come.
Gone too soon.

Agreed.

man, that article really makes it clear just how much marketing is nostalgic for the 90s these days.
this could have been released in a campaign today,

this 100% would just be a nike ad,

RIP.
Had seen the name a bunch over the years and he’s no doubt captured some of my favourite graffiti images. Never knew about the depth of his background in skating.

Dude was a huge part of the whole “beautiful losers” collective. Shot with Templeton, Gonz, and more. This sucks to hear.

Damn I hadn’t been on here in a couple of days. My 70 year old mother asked me if I knew him today when we were talking, I thought she was referencing Ken Block. She said no it was a guy from DC who shot skating and graffiti. I was shocked when she sent me the link about his passing. I’d see him at Pulaski in the early 90s. R.I.P.
-
RIP. As said above, one of the rare actual artists associated with skating.

Here is an obit link shared by his sister: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/sfgate/name/dave-schubert-obituary?pid=203610138 You can share thoughts there. Maybe someone should put a link to this thread?

His story about him and Jase getting chased and trading rack/paint get overs in that movie Infamy is legendary:
