Title: Cringiest Thing You’ve Ever Done in Skating
Post by: Sizzle on January 11, 2023, 01:47:09 PM
In middle school there was a solid two weeks after baker has a deathwish came out where me and my friend would ironically say “green room or die” or “for satan” before trying tricks, we acted like it was a joke but deep down we loved it.

I thought getting overly angry or throwing tantrums was the normal / cool thing to do like I saw my favorite pros doing (Heath, Boulala, Greco). Little did I know some of em were yeeked outta their minds anyways. Guess I saw it as some cool, macho-violent thing. Not to mention I dressed like Boulala and Greco, which could be a little embarrassing but I have minimal fashion regrets and that's not one of them.

But yeah, acting really angry and psycho when I didn't land something.

Being snotty to people who just didn’t want kids skating their property. I was convinced I got one of my favorite spots shut down and after that I decided to stop being an asshole.

I used to do beanplants to tail, and while I would sometimes do a proper quick smack on the reentry most of the time I would get back onto it carefully and sit there for a half second before dropping back in. Super lame. When I do footplants now I fully jump back in

Throwing my board and chipping the nose/tail then getting even angrier and focusing it.  Focusing boards out of frustration in general.

Dropping in my first time ever. The QP was around 10 or so foot tall. Full gear, wrist guards too. Fall flat on my chest and hands.

I wait to catch my wind, grab my board and sit in my car for a while before leaving.

Which was my biggest crime? Dropping in on something that high or the wrist guards that probably saved my wrists?

Full on goofy boy costume and the slow terrible late shuv pressure flip board flopping on the ground tricks that went with it.  The early 90s were lamer than people think.  Thank god for A Visual Sound and Eastern Exposure.

Bought two pairs of Dustin Dollin's first Vans pro model shoe. A pair of the red & black ones and a pair of the brown & black ones. I had to do some digging to find a photo of them online:

They were horrible shoes. Never forgave myself for spending so much on them.

Ah yes, the Dollin-Koston 3.  Bummer to hear they were horrible.  I’ve always been intrigued by these in retrospect.  The white leather ones with light blue accents looked sick - remember them from the ad back in the day

I had these in black and gold, I was maybe 10. No regrets. Just bought some polka dot no skools on ebay. Wish I had a solid supply so I could skate em, the tongue is kinda puffy but it feels like a pappalardo, love that in a shoe.

For Satan was tight just like skating on acid

I had a couple in my younger days that were totally down because of the music and genuinely intrigued with what was going on, albeit they didn’t understand what was going on.  I dated one chick that noticed how good Wade Desarmo is. In my older life it’s a terrible mistake, unless they are familiar or receptive.  Guess I’m stuck with watching 60 Day Fiancé, and sneaking away to watch a skate video like I used to with porn at my parents haha

Jimbo Jones hair/beanie combo for way too long especially because it's mostly hot where I'm from.
Nosemanny shoves, bigspins, 3 shoves, even 540 shoves. All are just benihanas.
Drinking beers while skating way too much and too often.
Trying to explain/talk my way out of being kicked out. Never give anyone a minute of your time. Don't even give them eye contact just grab your shit and walk away

When I was somewhere around the age of 12–15 me and my friends would litter the park and even threw cinder blocks into the bowl, but then we heard some older skater who had gotten out of jail recently was pissed off and looking to beat us up so we were pretty deterred after that and stopped.

Half of my friends from Primary School went to a different High School and in year 7.  One of their skate friends was having a birthday party at night and invited me.  We all went to skate a parking garage at night, and I was so piss scared that I faked a stomach pain until we all went home, then I think I made a miraculous recovery.  I think about this all the time still and it makes my bones ache.  What a little fuckhead, it would have been so sick to skate that garage at night.  I think thats when those friends stopped calling me, fuckin' deserved it.
Amazing the trivial crap you hang onto like an anchor throughout your entire life.

I took the pizza and beer thing literally and brought my grandmas egg rolls to a skate premier to make friends when I was new to skating and young. Also was way too geeked on core shit and wanted to get my physical copies signed by dudes who thought it was kooky that I knew so much abt my local scene.

also spending too much time skating my college's local plaza instead of progressing at the park (which helped me make the friends I have now but also damn I suck)

Also this one isn't me but when I went to a recent miles griptape demo, my homie pulled up on Shane O Neil and made a (non resentful) joke about how Shane slid in his ex's dm's and was like "Now I know who REALLY won the break up".

He was so uncomfortable and was all " ay mate I rly don't do that sort of thing u must have me mixed up with some one else" while louie was lookin over his shoulder like "wtf?"

The cringe was palpable but ngl I died laughing after the signing

As a teen I used to absolutely berate my younger brother when I didn't like how he filmed something. In one particularly heinous instance, he was 10 or 11 years old and I made him film my shitty kickflip attempts down a 3 stair for literal hours on end. When I finally landed it he didn't quite get it on film and I absolutely lost my shit. Focused my board and told him he would have to get me a new one because he fucked up filming and made me do what I did... I have very few regrets in life, but I really fucking wish I hadn't been such an asshole to my brother growing up.

I was at the skatepark alone resting on top of a 6feet ramp, 2 random dudes passing by said something like 'yo do a thing', so I slid down the ramp on my ass like a child, then did a flatground kickflip.

It was the second or so time I went to a skatepark so I had zero transition knowledge. This was only a few years ago.

In the 90s I skated a parking lot alone with a mobile curb thing I could fifty fifty each try. A cute girl stopped and kind of watched in my direction. Trying to impress her I hauled ass to grind the curb and ate shit really bad. I got up, did it again with a broken toe, landed it but the girl had already rode away on her bike, probably disgusted by my lack of skill. Or maybe she hadn‘t even been watching me at all… I still cringe at the thought.

I was 20 and locked into a serious psych habit and the tendency is to push it as far as you can. Weird part: the only time I balanced my drawer to the exact penny was on shrooms. Sorry world!

During one of my first days skating I learnt a kind of fakie FS shove it body varial without rolling. I had no idea about trick names so I called it sex change because I remembered that name from the Tony Hawk game. I was telling people I can do sex changes as a 13 years old...

My first time going to a skatepark I was trying ghetto birds on a quarter pipe just like Kareem Campbell. The funny thing is the board was spinning like a nollie 360 shove it and I was landing with one foot. Some other skaters were encouraging me and it felt like a dream because I looked more skilled than I was. I didn't know how to ollie.

I thought of something

Back in the '80s some big kids convinced me that if we broke my roskop that my dad would buy me a new board

I have no idea why I listen to them.

We took the board to Fort Seawall. And dropped boulders 30-40' on to the board.

All that happened was I got massive dents. Watson was incredible

I got a new board with my own money but my dad refused to switch the trucks. I can picture him telling me to figure it out myself.

I didn't and later that year I got caught stealing bubble gum. I got grounded for a whole summer and he beat my ass and the back of my knees with the Paint stirring Stuck. Then he took my boards and cut them in half with a saw under my bedroom as I first attempted suicide with a belt.

I was like 10. My brother caught me who was 9. My dad came in and thrithe two halves of my new McGill on the floor of the room. Don't remember if I got whipped with the stick more that day. Probably.

End of the summer he's like tricked you! Here's your old roscopp back you little punk fuck skate homo

When I was a freshman in college I lived on campus and all the kids would skate to class. Penny boards and longboards mostly but there was a few skateboard. 90% of these kids looked like it was their first time ever stepping on a board. Besides me it seemed there was only like 3 people who actually skated at the school so I felt too cool. Doing sw 180s and kickflips all the way to class. I would go so fast weaving through crowds, and power sliding last second to stop myself from slamming in to people. Thought I was so cool. One day I was doing that on my way back from class. There was a huge hole in the pavement right in front front of the gym that I had pass. I was too busy avoiding people and going too fast. By the time I saw the hole, I had no time to avoid and had to try to ride through it. Of course it didn’t work and I got pitched to my face. Sunglasses went flying and all. There’s a giant window that runs along the entire length of the gym so everybody in there saw me. Plus the other 200 kids in the area walking down that street.

When I was a freshman in college I lived on campus and all the kids would skate to class. always the worst feeling. something similar has happened to me many times, one time i had a tall can of beer but managed to save it while bailing and everyone on the street who saw gave me props for saving the beer

cringiest thing ive ever done was ride a fully flared biebel deck with alan key grind king trucks in plaid. flipping that thing could trigger epilepsy in anyone watching

Could only bring myself to do the bleached/acid wash shirts. Full multicolour was too much. (no lie promise). Def wore the pattern slacks/chef pants which is what I thought trapasso wore and maybe still cringe but I still rubber band my pants at the ankle sometimes

Here's your old roscopp back you little punk fuck skate homo

https://auralbutcheryers.bandcamp.com/track/dttbomn

This song is about all the ptsd trauma dreams of beatings across the back of my knees.

I agree. Back Willy lifting up and popping out backside over the corner of the ledge is awesome.

I definitely would do it switch so it's like fakie Smith fs half cab out tho.

Dylan cosplay. I don't regret it though cus I thought I was hot shit and skated harder than I probably would have.

Once I saw a 40 years old dude cosplaying Dylan and I commented "Yes Dylan, you are the best man."

He cursed me and said "I've been skating for 25 years and have my own style." Then, blocked me.

Man, that sucks. I hope you and your brother have a better relationship now. I was also pretty mean at times to my younger brother growing up and while we have a pretty good relationship now it still makes me sad to think about.

I'm kinda taken back by how many pro skaters I've heard say 'I started skating because my older brother did it and I thought he was the coolest person in the world' in interviews. I wish that there was some way to communicate that kind of power dynamic to older brothers so they would appreciate it instead of just thinking your little brother is annoying.

sometime in the late 90s... wanna say like 1997.. I was skating at some doctor building and there were some attractive females outside. In my infinite wisdom, I thought I should show off.... like lame macho "if i do a cool trick, these ladies will be so impressed that they will decide to have premarital relations with me ASAP" mentality. Anywho... I go to do a kickflip off this ledge and get credit carded in the taint harder than I ever have in my life. They definitely were second hand embarrassed and I played it off like I was all good until I got around the corner. I was not all good. Never did again. In fact because of this.. if I saw attractive lasses near the spot, i'd just chillax (a combination of chill and relax) until they were gone.

Sidenote: my son's possible future wife is the granddaughter next door... and when she comes over he starts actin a fool on his BMX. I told him to be careful because karma seems to want to get you right in deez nuts

Broke my foot skating a gap and told my friends to just fuck off when they offered to help, I figured it was just a sprain and that it would only take a few moments before I'd be able to walk again. Fortunately the gap was just down the road from my house so I managed to roll myself home, still not exactly sure what was going through my mind then though.

Yes, thankfully we're very close today. We've talked it all out years back and there's no bad blood between us at all, but I'd still like to kick myself in the face whenever I think about my own actions. The absurd thing is I absolutely looked up to my older brother at the same time, so I should have known better. Teenage ignorance I guess.

On a much lighter note, I've also had my fair share of utter failures trying to show off in front of girls. Instant karma.

I wrote out the Gettysburg Address on the grip of my Powell Peralta Per Welinder deck that almost had a barnyard shape.

I had a massive Harley Davidson chain wallet where the links were at least three inches long and super thick. Schools probably wouldn’t let you in with it these days as it was a real weapon.

Vision Street Wear hip pack with the most random shit in it including a skate key as if I would need it every day. But, hey if a homie or random needed a tool I was the hookup.

I’d say the cringe at thing I did as far as actually skating, would probably be airwalks down/off stuff.

but i remember about two years ago, I broke my right ankle skating at SPOT, and for some reason, I was embarrassed when I broke it, because everyone just looked at me. didn’t even stop skating. 🤣

Sophomore year of high school we had to memorize and recite a story of your choice in front of the entire English class, I chose the dumbest story about skating in the Wild West or some shit from a Thrasher magazine. Classmates had no fucking clue what I was talking about.

But, it was all good because a few popular girls liked me as I had a Beverly Hills 902101 shirt and didn’t realize it was a parody and I hated that show.

ha, i filmed some stuff for someone that did something similar to this. i drove them to the spot, knew where the spot they wanted to skate was. they were too young to drive at that point. anyways, dude makes his trick in couple tries down a huge gap at the time, newish trick also. would be a small-medium size gap by today's standard, i get so excited by it, i hit stop on the roll away a little premature and jump up like holy shit. dude watches the footage and gets super pisst! he could have easily done it again, which i'm pretty sure i was willing to do. nope, mad the whole hour long way home, mad for months. fuck that guy!

glad you stopped being a dick to your brother though.

Man where do I start? I did the dylan. cosplay, did the tight skinny jeans with the tall tee look, would only try random tricks I could only kind of get close to the entire session at a skatepark, learned bonelesses and no complys because I couldn't do "real tricks", threw temper tantrums and focused boards, all that shit. I also would scrape my shoes against my grip to make them look more skated. I had a Skateboard City account long before I had an account on here.

i used to do what i called "no comply handflips"

basically you go to do a no comply (put front foot on the ground, pop the tail with the back foot) and when the board pops up in the air, you reach your front hand down and smack the board (downward motion) so it essentially does a kickflip rotation, then land back on it with both feet. i would also do variations of this like "no comply hand frontside flip" or "no comply hand hardflip" (you get the picture)

admittedly i never took them seriously and even when i was like 14, i knew it was a joke trick, but i definitely did it enough that the lines were blurred.

now that i think about it, i should bring these back. i may be cringe, but i will be free

I think those can be sick. Fun dorking around tricks. Scott Stevens (pro snowboarder) does them a bunch. He posts low impact skating clips quite often and he just looks like he’s having a ton of fun.

My friends and I would do “pig style” where our asscracks would show like in Slaughterhouse.

I saw Van Wastell do those lil scrape ollies he was so good at and after doing them very badly for like 4 months I fucked up my ollies.

i used to do what i called "no comply handflips"

basically you go to do a no comply (put front foot on the ground, pop the tail with the back foot) and when the board pops up in the air, you reach your front hand down and smack the board (downward motion) so it essentially does a kickflip rotation, then land back on it with both feet. i would also do variations of this like "no comply hand frontside flip" or "no comply hand hardflip" (you get the picture)

admittedly i never took them seriously and even when i was like 14, i knew it was a joke trick, but i definitely did it enough that the lines were blurred.

now that i think about it, i should bring these back. i may be cringe, but i will be free

I still do them. Seeing creager do it off a curb in menikmati is still burned into my brain.

Damn. I like that one better than crook ta crooks or nose to crooks or whatever.
.I always felt that no one could do those good. No even like emb heads. Total little kid trick for people who skate slow and like stupid ass small baby wheels and tight ass trucks.

You know the soulless skater.

The combo that's a valid trick to me is
bs nose grind shuv 5oh. You can run it backwards but it never looks good with closed shoulders.

I used to do switch boardslide back 180 out and front board nollie 270 out on wide ledges when those types of tricks were trendy in the early 2010's. Still whip them out if no one is around to judge me. They're lower on the list of illegal tricks but still cringey nonetheless

Making Ben Gore hunt for my size in like 3 or 4 different shoes at FTC. I was already acting awkward as hell because I had never met him, and every time he went into the back I was praying they'd have the 9 so I could pay and dip.

Sometimes I imagine he was just going into the back to stand there and pretend to look, just like I used to do at my old retail job when I knew we didn't have something or if I hated the customer. That makes the memory way worse lol.

From my teens to 22 years old I only wanted to date girls who were into skateboarding (although they didn't skate) and punk/metal/emo/hardcore music. I thought that if I dated a normie, we wouldn't work as a couple. I even dated a goth girl for 4 years and every time I wanted to go to skate, I had to tell her I'm going to skate. The funny thing is she was thinking all the time that I wasn't skating, but dating other girl. So she came with my every time I went to skate. It was a nightmare. Now I've been married for almost 11 years with a normie who doesn't care at all about skateboarding or my music taste. Surprisingly, she is really supportive with my hobbies and I can skate every time I have free time and she doesn't care our 5 years old son come to skate with me. Even her parents bought skate things and protective gear to our son. Normies win. My young me looking for skatepunk girlfriends was cringe.

Nollie front lips.  Still making myself cringe on a weekly basis

I mean it’s yuto but he makes them look amazing. Nollie front lip down Hollywood high was one of the smoothest looking handrail tricks I’ve ever seen

I didn’t really know any other skaters growing up because I was from a small town, we had a little scene but nobody from my neighborhood or school skated so I was a little isolated. I went to the stay gold premiere at our local shop. Pretty much just ten folding chairs and a little crowd of tweens. I was shy so I didn’t talk to anybody, everybody seemed to be with their friends and I was dolo so I just kept to myself. When Leo’s part came on I loudly exclaimed “Everybody loves Leo!” Couple kids whispered to each other “what the fuck was that”. Didn’t say a fuckin word for the rest of the day

its a tough balance to strike - scowling is impolite and will probably get you gang-beaten unless you bring friends to watch your 6. i believe you were allowed to smile up to a 60 degree radius in past years, but anything happier than that was considered gay. however, rule changes since 2017 now make it ok to do full smile/appear gay as long as its not in front of any pros on plan b.

One time at a park in a suburb, a kid about 6-7 years younger than me kept laughing menacingly when I would fall on some warm-up trick and would come over to tell me I sucked. After about the 4th blatant neg comment, I lovingly focused his board, then I left as the kid started crying. The next day I went on a 2 week trip with my homies to skate San Francisco, and after I came back the locals of said park were telling me the local police were looking for me for stomping that shithead's deck so I stopped going to that park.

It felt cringe at the time, but I have no regrets.

Regarding boardslides on ledges, you should go to skate jail. Shame on you.

In ‘03 I convinced my family to go on vacation to SF mainly cause I was hyped on pier 7 and wanted to see that and other spots in person. Got my dad to take me to a few spots to skate and also visited FTC to get a shirt. When I was there they told me that the hot chocolate tour was going to be at Wallenberg in a few days. My dad is super rad and took me to that too. I didn’t really know what to do with myself once I was there though and my dad was trying to encourage me to get a photo with a pro. At 13 I thought this would be cringe. What actually ended up being cringe is the photos my dad took of me lurking awkwardly in the background in my Justin Eldridge cosplay (59fifty backwards to the side. I thought he was god when he popped is finger back in place. Even weirder to dress like him while I’m watching him skate) I still regret not saying what’s up to anyone and getting that photo. Plenty of other people were doing it and every one of the skaters was cool about it. I reflect on that situation a lot and it got me to care a lot less about appearing cool and what people would think of my actions. If anyone was there and remembers seeing a nervous kid in a giant yellow dvs shirt, that was me

Bought two pairs of Dustin Dollin's first Vans pro model shoe. A pair of the red & black ones and a pair of the brown & black ones. I had to do some digging to find a photo of them online:

https://www.depop.com/products/fastpaul-vans-dustin-dollin-swindle-dustins/

They were horrible shoes. Never forgave myself for spending so much on them.

Now hold on, the brown black colorway was ILL, I bought them from a outlet though so the two I purchased were cheaper than usual, learned backside flips, and they had a semi runner toe, while the red color was a bit gawdy I was down with those shoes

in 2005 at the height of the rapper Mike Jones' song "who is mike jones" or whatever the flip it was, when I was 15 I wore a hand made/ hand painted t-shirt to a local contest that said "WHO IS FINESLIME!?" (but it said my real name) on the back. I skated like shit that day. I went through a heavy phase of really bad grip tape art and hand painted t shirts. I desperately wanted to be, "the art kid."

Around 20/21 when I started being able to grow a legit full beard, my mustache still came in blonde despite my beard being dark brown, and I hated the way it looked. I got some just for men beard dye, and didn't just dye my mustache but dyed my whole beard. I left the dye on way too long and my whole entire beard and mustache turned jet black. I have blonde hair... I showed up to a full on session at skate park that night and everyone instantly started clowning me. I was standing on top of one of the quarter pipes getting ready to drop in, and a good friend of mine came up the ramp and without saying a word, stood right in front of me, took his phone out of his pocket, put it right in my face, and took a picture.

spending time and hanging out with skate park girls as a teenager while, in retrospect, having absolutely no chance is pretty embarssing looking back on it.

I’m pretty embarrassing naturally. I wore red Dustin dollin skin tight pants. I’ve been the white guy with dreads. I did a nollie bigspin just the other day. I’m not cool. It doesn’t matter. I have love in my heart.

if you still had your dreadlocks we would automatically know you have love in your heart <3

I once overheard some goofy napoleon dynamite lookin dudes making fun of my friend at the local and that pissed me off. Later I slammed and they started laughing at me like right in my face. So I said to them really aggressively “Atleast I don’t suck at skating”.
A little while later my board slipped out and one of the dudes stopped it and brought it back to me.

Went through a Dylan phase where I wore nice clothes to the skatepark. People always asked me if I just got off an interview.

In highschool i had the skinny pants baggy t shirt combo that was big in the early 2010s. Makes rewatching old clips impossible.

Another time in highschool I was doing skate tricks outside school right after it ended for the day. Only a few people at my school skated so I thought I was pretty cool. Whenever I’d do that I couldn’t land shit to save my life, it was like all my abilities would go out the window and id go from feeling cool to feeling wack very quick. There was a group of older kids who did kind of skate. I was sort of friends with some of them and they said something to me from far off and I replied “yeaaaa mannn” in the cringiest exaggerated stoner tone ever. My friends mocked me for a long time for that.

This was a long ass time ago thankfully: I didn’t skate a ton from age 20-24 but when I started to regularly again I was obviously very rusty, I tried to show someone at the park who was ten years younger but wayyy better than me how to frontside flip (while wearing Levi 510s and eS muska reissues :o ) and I couldn’t even land one.

Have a local at my park that is the "skate coach". Rolls around, sits down, gives unwanted advice on how to land a trick that they haven't done in 10 years or have never even landed or attempted.

As a kid, I did so many double flip tricks that kids at the skatepark started calling me “Double Flips”. When I got older I got tired of them and stopped doing them for the most part. These days I’ll bust one out every now and then

been googling for the one I had and I can’t find it. I’d describe it as grey termite trails pattern on white. And I think I erroneously called it chef hat because I got these berets—they’re fuckin berets!—mixed up with the pants…which were chef pants. Jesus.

I remember yours. Definitely tuff as shit, I’m thinking dangly earring like turbo. Gimme a fs slasher in fingerless gloves!

i definitely some wacko tricks when i was younger - but i don't think that's that bad in your formative years. you're just testing the limits in every direction of what you can do on this thing, and then you refine it. so yeah plenty of double flips and shove-it tailgrabs (sometimes with the extra shove on the end with your hand - full tailwhip style haha).

the only thing i'm ashamed about skating wise is how i would lose my swear and yell when i was younger. i definitely was conscious of small children and families - i wasn't that guy. but still, i'm sure the people who did experience it had their skate marred. i definitely watched older guys do it in front of me and had a friend or two who would also be a bit like that and videos were full of it as i was growing up, so it was definitely influenced behaviour. but yeah, very embarrassing behaviour. i'm glad you don't really see it anymore.

Anything considered cringe, I’m probably guilty of it at one point or another. A very particular day stands out to me where I couldn’t land whatever maybe a Lipslide on a park rail or something and I had a full mental breakdown and started beating the rail with my board until my horrible neon green trucks were so bent that I had to get new ones. Fortunately enough that was 15 years ago and I neither have coloured trucks anymore nor do I l get upset from not landing tricks, but being honest about myself, I was definitely Kerry Getz hockey tempered for a while.

Dookie braids had to be the worst hair decision I've ever made. Not because of Mike Carroll, but for some reason, seeing Adam McNatt with them misdirected me toward some hope that I might not look like a complete fucking idiot. I went to a private school and didn't even make it through first period before being sent home to take them out. Super grateful to the sisters for that. This was around the time I was doing equally stupid shit like pressure flip lipslides. Just heinous all around.

I brought tuna sandwiches to the sesh and they sat in the sun a little too long.  Ate one during a break and like half an hour later I threw up on a ledge and then pushed to the public bathroom with my hands pushing my ass cheeks together and had an immediate and explosive shit in a stall with no door and no way to wash my hands. Amazing day

Being a Bam kid, obsessing over everything Element the first two years of skating, thinking the shoes are what made you do the tricks resulting in begging my mom on a regular basis for new shoes when the ones I already had were perfectly fine.
Trying to shred my laces to make it look like I could kickflip before I could even ollie properly.
Had a Dylan phase (makes me feel even more cringe now because my name is Dylan, too).
Skating with a scowl on my face resulting in people telling me that they thought I would be mean or scary before getting to know me.
Drinking way too much for two years straight and losing all of my ability to skate.

Pressure flips. Had to tighten my truck and tried them for 3 days before I could do them. In my defense, it was to shut a guy I skated with up though. Loosened my rear truck back up and never did them after 5 in a row to prove I could do them.

Mike if you’re reading this, Dressen had better style than Carrol.

Street plants. That was just a poor choice and I’ll own up to it. It was the mid 80s and I was a kid but I still should’ve known better.
