Title: RIP O
Post by: McBrandt on February 17, 2023, 10:29:29 AM
Seeing things going around social media, but I have no details. I only knew him through friends. He was a stalwart of the SoCal music and skateboarding scene since the 80s at least, probably took some of your favorite pictures from the 80s, also was in that great Ban This section skating with Neil and Lance. My condolences to his family and friends.

RIP to a legend. Was just watching the Blender/Claar Speed Freaks raw tapes and enjoyed seeing him shooting stills and chilling with them.

Who else remembers that sequence of him doing a tre flip down a three-flat-three in a 90s ad? Maybe for the Firm? Gnars for whoever posts that (or corrects my memory).

Rest in peace O!

When I started searching for Blender stuff, I wondered who this 'O' is, who shot those photos and then put it all together from that Lance 'O' Neil Ban This part.

Fun O fact. I was reading an Transworld photo issue (sept 89)  and there were these two classic Blender photos in there.

It clicked that O must've taken that car photo on their way to the banks or on the way back, the same day none the less.

Didn't know he produced Cheshire Cat either!

Sad news, O was a great dude. He turned me on to the band “propagandhi” back in 93/94, so I have him to thank for discovering my favorite band of all time. Rest in peace buddy. You will be sorely missed for sure.

seeing him goof around with lance and neil in “ban this” was so important to me because my skills on a skateboard were always far outweighed by the humor i put into it.

I was listening to KEXP on Monday, and the DJ was talking about O. They were old friends. He told a story about a time when Rocket From The Crypt came to town, and O was with them, and they were staying at the DJ's house. He had recently come out of the closet, but didn't really know anything about being gay - hadn't been to any bars or nightclubs, didn't really know any other gay guys. O was excited and supportive of his awkward, recently-gay friend, and O insisted that they all go to a gay country western bar and dance all night.

So before he knew other gay men, before he had friends to show him the ropes, there was O and the members of RFTC, making him step outside of his shell and being there to support him. He was all chocked up. It was a very sweet story.

Damn thats awesome. Pretty sure that bar was called “Brass Connections” and closed down a couple years before I moved to Capitol Hill.
