Title: Track Four Theorem
Post by: Gray Imp Sausage Metal on May 14, 2023, 09:30:17 PM
Was this a thing when you were growing up, did it exist in your area?

Overview of said theorem:
Any album worth its salt needs to have an absolute banger for track 4; that’s the track that holds your attention and makes you decide whether or not to keep listening. All good bands know this!
The theorem also extends to mix tapes: track 4 is what the homies are anticipating, it’s where you blow their minds with a new band/ release (or did so back in the day). Track four theorem is not concerned with genres, it is universal.
There are good albums without a smoking track 4, but there are NO bad albums with a banging track 4, it goes against the laws of physics/ said theorem. Post your fave track 4 songs (from your favourite albums) in this thread:

I've never heard of this theory and, honestly, it seems like a coincidence because as I looked through some of my favorite albums, a lot of them have good songs at track 4 and a lot of them don't.

However, it's a fun game so I'll play along:

cheers for that, my only reply!
I guess it wasn't a thing then, and yes, it may just be coincidence but a good track four is a good track four. In my mind it's a sign of a well-thought out album

Accident Prone is the 4th track on Dear You, so I believe this to be true.

see, it is a thing! Chesterfield King is only track 3 on bivouac though which makes me think there was a glitch in the matrix there …

Need to check this theory later. But I have a similar thing: all bangers from modest mouse are song number 7. This stops with “good news for people ….” But this also coincides with the last MM album I ever listened to
