Which Heath photo was he referring to? He said it was an alien ad
-
Maybe this one? Not totally sure though.

-
I do too, a bunch of the guests I know nothing about and I still listen so it means they are doing something right…..

Always liked O’Dells writing and photos in addition to Epicly.
Here’s the first Baker tour article from Dec 2001 Thrasher he talks about in this. (Missing a page)

Good listen, and when that baker article came out it felt like such a new direction in skateboarding, which it was.
I am surprised that Odell aired some of this stuff out, like the girl-salt cop magnet crying stuff.
I was such a fan of baker 2g and baker bootleg. So much of my self destructive behavior in those years was fueled by the stamp of approval of shitty behavior of the baker videos. Kind of like how the band I lived with in those days adhered to some quote that the only singers worth a damn are those who smoke two pals a day.
But I also listened when Reynolds got sober, and that was influential on me as well.
Everybody who has turned it around has a story with details that are different, and I’m glad mine had baker and skating as a part of the details of mine

About 25 mins in and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't heard this pod before but O'Dell got me to click. I can appreciate how O'Dell actually thinks before he speaks. Great questions being asked and I love the hosts vibe. Super laid back and genuinely inquisitive.

I wish O'dell kept Epicly laterd a little more in the style of those articles. Feels like the series got too celebratory and watered down
-
This was great. I've always appreciated Patrick's thoughtful approach to his media
-
would have been interesting to hear what he has to say about contemporary morrissey

Vice didn't/doesn't pay nearly enough for anyone to work there

Wow, had no clue they did a video portion too.
The Dela ep is a goog one too
-
this one was really good. odell seems rad and these kids were asking good questions.

that joke isn't funny anymore

Who are these guys, are they like graffiti heads? They get some crazy guests that I'd love to hear in more in-depth long(er) form.

this was so good. what a thoughtful guy.
he made his fucking mark, too. i went back and watched the neckface and jason dill epicly later'ds and i think i took it for granted at the time what gift those were... like a logical replacement for a magazine, like a skateboarding tour video without the skating, or something like that. did not seem revolutionary at the time but i think in my world it really was a huge shift in the way that I wanted to learn about cultural things.
it also seemed to raise the bar for how much context you could pack into a profile of someone (shots of their apartment, interviews with their friends, shots of the cities they lived in, the stores they visited, etc) compared to a print interview.
it also seemed make it obvious to me that selling a sponsored skater as someone you should care (and buy products from) about had way less to do with actual skating than i previously thought. the skating grounds it, but alot of it is image.
all this from a dude that was just a skate photographer. inspiring
