Title: Slap Pals Fantasy Football 2023
Post by: lamfordie on July 31, 2023, 07:23:17 PM
Its that time of year again. Time to study up and get ready for another year of Slap Pals Fantasy Football. Im hoping for another fun filled year of fantasy. Who is going to take the top prize. This year I would like to come up with a way to determine who will get the first pick of the draft. If you guys have any ideas please let me know. Also if you cannot be part of it this year let me know so I can replace you. Let the shit talking and fun begin.

Just saw the email. Can’t wait to run it back this year. Hopefully whoever gets 2nd this time can afford a shop shirt. 😂

Sick!
Just wrapped up watching that Quarterback show on Netflix, has me stoked for the season to get started for sure.

How does the draft order normally go, randomly or reverse order of last year's finishing position?

100% in for this again and this time I’m winning the Hsuper Bowl.

Bold predictions for the year:

Justin Fields is QB1
Bijan Robinson is RB1 - but only because Mccaffrey goes down for some of the season
Cooper Kupp has a yuge comeback year
Johnathan Taylor is done
Alexander Mattison has a BIG season (not quite Dalvin cook numbers but close)
James Cook breaks out as RB1 in Buffalo
Lamar Jackson has nice numbers but Ravens go 9-8 and miss the playoffs

Yeah go for it. Maybe the winner of the overflow league can be bumped up to the Pals league and last place can be relegated to the overflow league?

Haha that was against me! I thought I was home free with Kamara's mammoth score, then it got scary close late with Davante. I thought you were going to catch me for sure. That margin is what, less than 4 yards? Insane

I like the relegation idea.

How about last place gets sent twelve sheets of Shake Junt grip that they have to ride and film clips on for a year?

I was in a league where last place had to take a shot of Carolina Reaper hot sauce.

I'm down to commish the overflow one!  As long as it's cool with the first league, also down to duplicate their rules, style, platform etc.  So it's a clean transition for the team that’s relegated or promoted each year - which, by the way, sounds like a phenomenal way to up the stakes.  (In the unlikely instance I'm the promoted one I'd obviously cede commissioner responsibilities haha).  Seems like there's a chance we could put together a 12-team league of us newcomers?  Still plenty of time until September 7th...

Thanks Sizzle, I'm registered!

Is there any merit to pushing the draft out a little later, closer to September, so we don't all potentially get bit by the injury bug?  It's currently set for August 13th (but maybe that's just temporary/default)...

Out of curiosity what rules are the first league using?  PPR?  Also 2 IR slots?

Very stoked!

Thanks!

Not to step on @Sizzle’s toes - but just want to point out we still have room for 3 players in the Overflow League.

Our draft is currently set for this Sunday.  Should we push it out a bit while we gather our final 3 participants?

Also does feel slightly early to draft given all the season ending injuries that occur every year in preseason.

If you're in a dynasty league maybe, but Dawson Knox is signed for several more years and is coming off his first pro bowl season. He's Allen's security blanket in the red zone and a proven blocker. The only reason Kincaid started last night was because Knox sat.

Kincaid probably won't play much until mid season at the earliest, and even then I don't remember Buffalo throwing out of 12 personnel sets very often so unless they line him up in the slot (unlikely with Shakir being a "slot guy" and Diggs running about a third of his routes there) he's not going to see anywhere near the targets needed for a useful fantasy TE.

Pittsburgh is in the same boat with already having a stud in Freiermuth and drafting Darnell Washington (arguably more talented than even Kincaid, but fell to the third because teams were scared of his knees) and I'm sure there's others as well. It's the right approach though...TE is a deceptively complex position and rookies rarely make a huge impact.

What's the prize and punishment situation for the overflow league gonna be?

First of all, I apologize for being incommunicado for the last couple weeks. Changed the draft date but should probably have a more reliable, less manchildy commish. @Kevin! Would be down to send you an invite to get commissioner privileges if you have the time (just in case something needs to get done asap?). Always good to have two sets of eyes on things yaknow

Secondly, we still have two open slots in overflow if any of the OGs are willing to fraternize with the hoi polloi (@Sativa Leung you interested?)

Thirdly, given that we’re closer to draft day I’d like to get some input on specific times/final approval on the day. 27th works for me, assuming most pals are beast coast based I catered to EST but I’m down to move it up from 8pm if west coasters need to get their beauty sleep.

Lastly, re: prizes etc I kinda like the t shirt idea but also thought it would be fun if the champ gets to choose last places sig for the year, something forum related would be pretty funny tbh

Love you guys and can’t wait for this year. Also I will kill myself if somebody else takes Lamar #bigtruzz

@Sizzle - I’m down to share commish duties for sure - hit me with the link!

Shop tee is pretty classy… that is a good prize… but are we still doing promotion/relegation though?   ;D

I dig the idea of winner choosing sig punishment for last - that has some potential.

I think having the overflow draft before or after the PAL league makes a lot of sense, so we don’t overlap for anyone drafting in both leagues… should we aim for 8pm EST/5pm PST on 8/27 for now?

Draft time is now August 27th @5PM PST/8PM EST. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Also would like to humbly suggest that we pledge to cop any prize from our boy @MOE SYZLAK to keep the money in the community

Very sick.  I guess we just need to decide who’s responsible for the shop tee - 2nd place like the PAL league, or last place?  And does last place have the indignity of rocking an assigned sig for a year-long term, courtesy of the winner?

And looking for those final two players to jump in this Overflow league before the draft this Sunday…

For those that are competing in the Pals League, I set the order to be random an hour before the draft. The draft will be this Sunday at 8pm pst. For last place punishment I say we let the first place winner chose their sig for the year. If you got any funny ones post it here. As for the winner I say we buy a local shop shirt and ship it to them or we can get them a shirt from Moe Syzlak shop. Good luck everyone and may the fantasy gods be in your favor.

@Sizzle - should we do the same for the Overflow league and set our draft order to randomize an hour before the draft (which is set for 5PM Pacific on Sunday)?

So it seems like Overflow is leaning towards having last place buy a shop tee for the winner from Moe’s, or a local shop.  And also doing the sig punishment as well?

Can’t wait!

UPDATE:  thanks for the Asst. Commish privileges, Sizzle.  I’ve set it to so the draft order will randomize 30 minutes prior to our draft (30 minutes appeared to be the only option).

Trying to figure out how to do that rn. I added you as a co-commisioner if you wanted to take a stab at it. Seems like a good idea but honestly I think the most pressing issue is how many weeks playoffs will be / how many teams are eligible. @lamfordie what's yr take on playoffs? I was thinking 6 teams / three weeks? never commissioned b4 so never really thought about it

We’re all set on the draft order randomizing.

Will also let @lamfordie weigh in on playoffs, but 6 teams over 3 weeks (weeks 15, 16, 17) seems pretty standard/solid.  The top two teams in regular season would get bye weeks, so that seems like a good incentive to play for.  That would work for me…  I can make the change from 4 team playoff (as soon as we have some consensus here.)

Hey Guys

For playoffs its the we have the same system. 6 teams get in the playoffs and top 2 gets a bye and we play from week 15-17th. Thats pretty much the standard way now of doing playoffs since most teams are resting or not even playing players week 18.

Good luck to you all in the overflow league. Maybe whoever wins can get bumped up to the regular league.

Ended up with a pretty solid draft picking at 11. First 4 picks are all top 30 players. Some QBs went off the board wayyy earlier than expected.

Whoever took Lamar round 1, are you in Baltimore too?

I can appreciate Sizzle jumping up early to grab his guy.  He did say he wanted him, and I was starting to worry I’d be the one to accidentally take him if he was sitting there in the 3rd or something.  Although Lamar going end of round 1 probably played a part in sparking that run on QB’s at the end of the 2nd.

I forced closed the app and it auto picked Jonathan Taylor for my 2nd pick who’s not even active atm lol… guess he’s in the fold tho…

I definitely panic picked a few… i did get Josh Allen and Cousins see how that pans out. Nice 1-2 punch depending on the matchups…

Allowed me to get najee and amari so I’m not complaining. My RB and WR rooms are strong for a 12 person league. Lawrence should take a jump so snagging him late works for me.

That would be great, but it’s unlikely. Derek Barnett is a walking false start, and I’m sure he was likely to be cut. He also started that joint practice fight with the Colts.

I’m hyped the Eagles signed and stashed Isaiah Rodgers for next season.

Totally, he’s a legend for scooping up that fumble in SB52 but he’s been disappointing.  I’m not sure we’d cut him because he’s solid depth, but I also thought Myles Jack would make the team  ;D

The cutdown to 53 tomorrow is easily one of my favorite parts of the league year.  Stoked about Rodgers, hadn’t seen that… expecting some more roster manipulation by Howie soon:  potential temporary cuts of vested veterans like Nicholas Morrow or Boston Scott, phantom IR, etc.  Too much talent on this roster to make any unnecessary exposures to waivers.

Damn this is crazy. Was watching the preshow of Florida & Utah on espn then as soon as game starts , black screen. Disney pulled all their channels espn, abc, etc due to contract disagreements. Spectrum gonna lose so much money. I’m canceling asap then gonna watch games through YouTube TV. Worst timing , football season just starting

Such a fall from grace… he absolutely annihilated it for me in the slap league few years ago.. don’t think they have any draft capital either.

Pinche hindsight. All weekend I’ve been telling myself, “dammit should’ve taken player x…. Dammit should’ve taken player y”

I don’t have Dobbins in the overflow but I do in a league with some friends. I’m bummed he’s hurt but honestly more bummed for him in general. I know it was a big year for the guy and his future, just to blow your ACL up first game of the year

Need a bad game from Rodgers tomorrow if I’m going to squeak by with a week 1 win. Also as a long time giants fan, watching that game…I can’t handle a loss in fantasy on top of whatever that performance was 😭

I have Dobbins in Overflow.

Also got goose eggs out of London and Goedert.

Not to mention Jamarr Chase getting locked down by Denzel Ward and his band of merry elves. 😂

Rough week 1 in that league for me, although I know Goedert is likely to have a monster bounce back game.

I would need Josh Allen to go off for over 30 and the Bills kicker to have no field goals to win in that league.

12.5 from Hurts and two goose eggs from Tee Higgins and London in the Pals league. I pulled a Chiefs on Thursday night there.

Lamar Jackson gave me 6.5 points in another league.

I won in 3 out of 7 leagues so far.

I was this close to running “Mingo only pawn in game of life” but it was too long to fit in the field.  Then even rostering him after week 1, with the condition my WR room’s in, seemed too burdensome.

Could be a league winner type player. He’ll still get his after cupp is back. Stafford looks great. People under valued the Rams. They’ll be competitive in most games.

Saquon injury is a hit for sure. Putting Amari Cooper and Kirk are on the block, looking for an RB. Open to offers.

To be fair, there's a very good chance his production goes in the dumper as soon as Kupp comes back and/or teams start to actually pay attention to him. Also at some point it has to turn into wins or the "throw it to the same guy every play" strategy has to change.

The Akers thing is hilarious though, and I say that as someone who wasted a first round pick on him in my dynasty league last year. Like does he think just throwing a hissy fit and refusing to play every time he has a bad game is making him more desirable to outside teams? There's no chance anyone is giving anything remotely meaningful up for him in a trade at this point so I feel like he's a free agent by week 5 at the latest and will be lucky to find his way to a practice squad next year.

@BallDontLie Steelers D baby. Hope you didn't drop them. I came from being 20+ down to winning late in the 4th in two leagues. They're very good at forcing turnovers and occasionally punching them in.

That’s fair.  I guess I should’ve mentioned he flashed over and over, and just looked extremely explosive out there at camp.  He almost looked like Kupp, very hard to cover.  But yeah I agree his volume will likely diminish a bit when Cooper’s back.  To be honest, they are winning with Puka.  They’re 1-1 and came within a touchdown of one of the better teams in football in the 9ers on Sunday.

Jesus that's grim. I won one of my games because of the Akers thing too..I don't think they announced it until like halfway through the early games and a lot of people missed it.

Such a strange situation all around. I can't imagine trying to make a power move like that when RBs are valued lower than ever before. Like if Jonathan Taylor can't find a trade I really can't see anyone making a move for Akers unless the rams agree to pick up like all of his salary.

28.3 I think.  Nothing crazy, but still pretty damn good.  Their running back, Devon Achane had 200 yds, 2 td's.  If you had either of the Dolphins Running backs then you came out good.  I don't think either have high roster percentages.  Looks like Baker Mayfield had Achane on the bench and Purdy Sweet had the other one in the flex spot.

I’m sick I left Achane on the bench this week in favor of nico collins. achane had ~200 rushing yards, ~30 receiving, two rush tds and two receiving tds for a grand total of 49 points. Thank god Keenan Allen balled the fuck out this week

Mike McDaniel is playing Madden on pro difficulty in real life right now.

I think most people overlook Mostert, but every time in his career he's been healthy and given the ball regularly he's performed at a very high level, arguably even elite. I've called him a poor man's McCaffrey or Chubb many times and I firmly believe if you give him 20 carries a game he'd be an all pro. Obviously that won't happen in Miami (especially with another mouth to feed now) but I would not be surprised at all to see him punch in 10-12 TDs this season. He's a legit home run threat on every play and this isn't the first time he's had a ridiculous 4td game like this either...he did it it in the playoffs a few years ago too. I'm pretty comfortable running him at rb2 as long he's healthy.

Durability has always been the knock, but he's been pretty good about staying on the field so far in Miami. If they give him 200 carries this year he'll blow past 1000 yards like it's a defender trying to contain him on the edge.

I'm definitely biased though - he won me 2 leagues when SF fed him down the stretch a few years ago and then won me $150 in a .10 draftkings contest when he had the monster playoff game.

I know all the "fantasy pros" are putting him in their column this week but I might hold Kirk and see how it plays out with Lawrence having a full complement of receivers. Seems like teams are already keying on Ridley and Kirk was super solid as wr2 for me last year. I could definitely see him being their Tee Higgins/Tyler Lockett/Slim Reaper type that is going to technically be wr2 but still have a handful games where he carries the load. It's only week 4 and it's not the worst thing to keep someone like that stashed for injuries and byes.

Jesus Christ dude relax, I literally said I thought you were gonna win this week, as I have pretty much every other week. It’s fucking fantasy football this shit is 90% luck and 10% watching the wire. I barely watch football outside of the ravens so I practically autodrafted half my team, I didn’t even know who fucking Achane was before the draft. I hope I don’t give the impression that I’m gloating about doing well, or being obnoxious, I’m enjoying having some fun with you guys and it makes watching non-ravens games more interesting. Truly perplexed at what gave that impression. I honestly think I’m gonna finish pretty strong, 10-4, and get knocked out second round of playoffs, maybe first. Bad feeling about Lamar getting hurt middle of the season for like four games and feel like I’m gonna have a bad rb injury too, maybe cook. All blessings and love to yours and yourself not that upset just coming from a place of love. Love all u guys (even the homies in the OG league.)

PS somebody could theoretically entice me into trading tua who’s gonna be decent this year

DJ Moore is a godsend.  That was insane.

I’m stoked to be attending Eagles/Rams this weekend - should be fun seeing my Hurts and Swift face off against @Big Baby Jesus’s Puka and Jake Elliott.  Brutal having to go up against the Birds’ kicker though…

Last game I went to with this many fantasy implications was the Jaguars/Rams game back when Urban Meyer was the coach- I had Kupp and James Robinson, and watched in pain as Urban simply would not use JRob, keeping him sidelined as my opponent’s Gay hit field goal after field goal.  Think I still somehow won that week though…

Steelers D comes through with a huge 4th quarter. T.J. Watt should be an MVP candidate, he and Highsmith were responsible for like 10 points in the last 5-10 minutes. If he stays healthy he's breaking the sack record (that he's already tied, in 15 games) this year for sure and he isn't gonna need his golf buddy to lay down for him like Strahan did.

Honestly we didn't totally deserve to win it given what a joke our playcalling is but the ravens seem to crumble under pressure against us, probably because of the amount of emotional trauma we've inflicted on them over the years. I have no idea why they decided to leave single coverage on one of the best young jump ball wrs in the league at such a critical point in the game but I'm not complaining. Absolutely bonkers to have Pickens single manned up there, especially with how flaccid our run game is and Freiermuth sitting today. There was only one place Pickett was going with that ball.

I thought I'd win too with at least a stellar performance from Love against Raiders D with a few points from Adams, but damn Raiders somehow came through. They're my team, so I'll always take them getting a win over me. Jarrith is also my roommate and we have a bet that whoever finishes above the other doesn't have to pay rent for a month, so giving them hope of fighting their way back up the standings will certainly delay them from trying to get out of the bet lmao.

Also can't believe I started Taysom over Jaylen Warren, I truly played myself on that one.

Good game, Jarrith – your “Dandy Boys” showed up big today...

I almost had buyers remorse once you accepted, but I def had too many WRs (still have Deebo, Pittman, Godwin and Pickens) and was trotting out some trash RB lineups for a few weeks. Monty is a big upgrade, hopin to make a playoff push.

That wasn’t the Lions being bad, the Bears have turned the corner and have a damn good D and an inconsistent but solid offense. I’m biased as hell and the coach still sucks ass but watch out for them to end up 9-8….

Still feeling like a genius for picking up Zeke and him putting up 27, but Deebo has also just been a monster these past 3 weeks.

The Matt Nagy Effect Real. Last week brought to my attention, insane stats - Mahomes having the worst pass rating, Yds per pass, Pass YPG, & TD/INT of his entire career! Happy for you that  the Bears cut him loose couple seasons ago. Really blows my mind how all the talking heads overlook  Nagy & the departure of Eric Bienemy. They solely  focus on young receivers dropping passes. So much more than that. I’m not even a Chiefs fan, happy to see them go down. Something weird happening out west . Feel like the Bills & Chiefs are done which I’m happy about

And yes , Zeke putting up numbers . Strange days indeed

Gumsoles deserved better. Certain teams deserved worse. Championship quarterfinals is shaking out to be rife with injury concern. @minirampchamp should be planning on adding another gift to their Christmas list. Blessings and good luck to all in the postseason #sizzleout

5 is my lucky number. I’m gonna win the Hsuper Bowl! Dak will lead me to the promise land (for me not the Cowboys tho).

The Chargers complete trash , final nail in the coffin for this fan. Trash organization for decades. Last night one of the worst games I have ever seen

Pray that somehow Justin Herbert’s escapes that franchise in the future

How so?  Frontsalad was the only one without a complete lineup this week (even among eliminated teams) and that’s sorta been their thing all year, makes sense they were the 1 seed and got a bye to the semifinals  ;D

Merry Christmas,

Knocked out of the playoffs in both leagues on the same day. Unfortunately, Jake Browning failed to lead me to the promise land. Been a fun year gents , salute. Looking forward to next year , really hoping we keep the 2 leagues going

Bad luck dude, didn't expect to see Browning in a lineup week 2 of the playoffs though lol.
All Picnic Tables division showdown for the championship, good luck to Nigel's Ass Tatts! Guess I'll be up early for the games on New Year's morning down in Oz

I was gonna start Russ Wilson in the finals but he’s benched now, lol right when he’s been putting up decent numbers too.

I was bummed, didn't make the play offs in both the leagues I'm in. The Slap league hurt a little more because I felt like I had a pretty stacked roster this season (PissDrunx). Good luck to those still fighting

Had a great time playing in the overflow league (Hangin with Mr Cooper) this year! Season ended how I expected it would. Threw a dud up in the quarterfinals then went off in the 5th place game. Team probably will go off again this week even though I don’t have a match up.

Looking forward to doing this again next year. Really cool connecting with you all with something outside of gear madness.

If you’re in a championship game and your opponent forgets to bench Amari Cooper this week, does it feel like a cheap win to you?

So such thing as a cheap win. A win is a win. Similar to a team with bad clock management then can’t run one last play towards the end of the game . Love fantasy, imagine we are the owner/gm/coach of a real franchise. Hurts to be knocked out of the playoffs. Wow Patrick Skateman, back to back champion? Well you need a third ring in order to be considered a dynasty according to the talking heads.

I'll take that Jerome Ford + Cle Def performance last night! Njoku was solid tho, so not 100% confident moving forward, but feelin good!

Not a champion in any of the slap leagues this season, but one in a $50 buy-in league, so no complaints here.

I actually had a run from 2013 - 2016 where I was winning at least one championship each year. Some years were two, and one year was two gold medals and one silver.

Dear Overflow league winner,

It's me, minirampchamp. Even though I came out of the gates 3-0, feeling like I was invincible, reality set in. Justin Jefferson just didn't produce, Mahomes under whelmed, and I honestly just made some shit lineups week over week.

That being said, congratulations! Shoot me a message with shirt size (I think thats what was agreed upon) and I'll hook you up with a T from my local shop.

Congrats on the overflow championship, Ookie Cookie Monster / @Kumiko … you had a super solid team all season.

This is definitely the most fun I’ve had playing fantasy, and I didn’t even make the playoffs.  The parity and engagement in the overflow league was incredible.  Fucking loved my team but injuries and inconsistency were a bitch this season.  Can’t wait for next year...

Hell yeah! I'm stoked I won the overflow league. I thought I was cooked after Ford and Cleveland's D's performances, but I got pretty lucky with some of max palmer's players having some dud games. Playing in this league is a lot of fun. Felt like almost anyone could have won in the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

I’m not sure we ever actually established if last place of the regular season or last place in the consolation bracket is responsible for the shirt.  @JoseCansnake0 - if you wouldn’t mind snagging this time, we can make that clearer next year - and let everyone weigh in on what is properly “last” if there’s any debate there.

I believe it comes down to the brackets, IMO
