Almost 30 and skate with some younger dudes and some older guys regularly in our little city. Skateboarding attracts some really awful kids, but I definitely consider myself lucky to know youts who aren't too cool to hang with us, but who also have their own opinions and tastes without heading into weirdo shit territory.

This thread is hilarious. Anyone is welcome to come here and talk shit on young people on the website or young skaters in general. I was interested to see if there was anyone close to my age here and, I learned that in the physical sense, there are two of them. a lot of older people who may not be physically my age but, are definitely still young shithead skaters. use this forum to keep your inner child alive.

Let’s get this thread on track.
The reason I choose 77 as my username is not to brag about being old but as a way to let SLAP know that my perspective is that of an older skater. I try to be accepting of all new trends because I’m on the outside for the most part.
Question for the younger skaters, does it annoy you that 80s and 90s pros stick around long past their shelf life? I think before IG leveled the playing field it was more of an issue. I think a lot of the pros that are between 30-35 got a raw deal because of how many guys born in the 70s were taking up their spots.
Thoughts?

so the 80s skate scene was something i never looked into, didnt really care about that era and have always disliked the base idea of the 80s. my parents were born in '85 so the late 90s and early 00s skaters have always been my favorite. some of them do annoy me that they still are around but most of them are fine. they just wanna enjoy the last few years but people like daweon exist so the skaters and i like the pros that still skate.

I don't feel annoyed that old pros have stuck around, I like a lot of old pros. I think it's now harder for younger pros to actually stand out in the murky landscape of social media and shit like that, same with companies and especially when older pros have shit they've been in like video games or are remembered as a popculture thing like video games or shit like Crail, DC and Element being involved with movies and TV and shit.
I know blaming socials is the easy way out but really that's the only way I can describe that shit but it's hard to compete with 80 white dudes from LA in old-skools and highwaters or the Berrics trying to give the fucking most cooked people careers like Burberry bastard. Only other way is to get on a brand with either legacy or legacy lineage, or propped up by old pros who've had amazing careers. Or be a youtuber. But at the end of the day, a lot of really good and charismatic people who should have careers get sidelined for kooks and abhorrent people, and always has been because pro skating is still a marketing thing, yanno.

When they're like Gino and don't skate anymore, yes I find it tacky as hell. When they're like Reynolds and they continue to kill it as they age, then no that's sick as fuck.
