why do people like him so much? i really havent seem that much stuff from him that seemed to have an outstanding style. his photosynthesis part, his mosaic part, mostly everything else he's had i don't see too much good stuff in. he did have a couple good lines and tricks at love, like the switch frontside 180 to nosemanny revert, and he had some good tricks in mosaic, like the flushing meadows line, the backside flip, and the switch ollie around the end. he also had that chocolate ad, the kickflip at the verizon banks, which was gnarly as shit, but i don't see why rob pluhowski doesn't get as much attention, he has a great style, and neither of them seem to try to get coverage for shit.
im not trying to talk shit but it just seems like pops gets way more hype than he should be getting.

It doesn't matter that the truck hit because he did it and I'm not a big enough loser to remember or be bothered to look but I bet it still looked damn good. Plus, fingerflip railslide to switch heel up 5? Apples and oranges? Anyway why should you give a shit if this guy lives up to hype? I don't understand why you need people to prove how good he is. First, I would like to see the examples of him getting hype. Do you mean he gets mentioned alot in "fav pros" thread and shit? I think every part he's had is awesome, he has a truly aesthetically pleasing style, and he has the most tasteful trick selection in the game right now.
Why don't you start this thread about SJ or Julien? They don't get much coverage and have tons of "hype".

Pops always has footy from the raddest spots, original tricks, flowing style. The question is really how could anyone who skates not like his skating? I know there are a lot of girls on here who might not like his hair (gest?) or his clothing or something, but his skating? Fun to watch and a glimmer of hope in an industry of guys that flourish by skating like robots.

My idea of someone with Style is when they can "clip a truck" or "mob a flip" and it still looks good.
Badly done tricks that still look good. (see Gino's ender in the Choc Tour)
opposed to,
Bad tricks done well (see Coynes fingerflip to rail)
as long as I never see Pops doing a Benihana it'll be all right.

Dude, are you sure you don't get the hype? Sounds like you're really quite the fan. Trying to talk shit on someone by frequently mentioning a bunch of awesome shit they've done, while only referring to the one thing you didn't like (the switch heel up the 5), makes absolutely no sense.

yea pops first line in mosaic the ollie up ollie over the 2 rails is the craziest shit ever the whole spot is like cheese grater rough metal shit and after the first ollie its so fucking hard to get enough speeed to go up hill on that and ollie the next rail which is pretty high.the fs ollie over the rail into the bank is insane the rail is so fucking tall and that bank is steep and narrow as fuck. i cant see why the hate hes been doing his thing keeping out of the limelight and should have an insane fully flared part. but its your opinion. oh and pluhowski yea is like making furniture and yea hes been around skating the city so ive heard

anyhow the footage he puts out is golden.
watch and rewatch and rewatch some more and realize how well the trick he does are and spots and how he pulls them. not everyone is a fiend of getting in every fucking shit magazine there is now and days. i guess some will understand and than a good chunk will never.

there's no "deserving"!! If someone is admired in skateboarding, they're doing something right. And it is sometimes because they're just being themselves. Pops seems humble, and the whole staying out of the spotlight thing works so well for a lot of guys. I honestly think i'd like him less if he were POPing up in every mag each month.

It's always hard to judge a dude who (apparently) rides a board for my/our amusement. Is that why he's riding?
Imagine being this guy who enjoys this activity that basically is the focus of his projected life... Filming, maybe wondering if folks will dig what he's doing. If Popallardo were to film for appeal, I don't think it would be a Popallardo part. Not to idealize his position as much more than it is... but that's just what makes some of these dudes who they are. Gino could've retired after this Nike video... and we would've been left with just wondering what he's up to. There'd be a post here and there "What's Gino up to?". Aesthetically these guys are untouchable on a skateboard... and that's why I "admire" what they are able to do. Don't worry yourself thinking much more of it than that. Unless it's support.
I think summing up skateboarding with something as digestible as video parts is when skateboarding becomes less interesting. Videos are the PACKAGED version of what's up with these teams... Not entirely who these people are. I know it's most of our only way of seeing what's going on, but still it's a video made important ONLY BY US. Think of how diverse that Lakai team is... Wasn't it mentioned that Koston was filming up until a few days before release? It's just different types of people. Koston doesn't even need to be dignified at this point, but he's the type who puts it all out there for his part. Popallardos just a way different type, but in no way less of a skateboarder.
