Title: Jamie Thomas Appreciation Thread
Post by: daboss on July 11, 2007, 03:37:15 PM
Ok, i get it, everyone here fucking hates JT. But are you overlooking his past achievements? He's done a lot for the progression of skateboarding..well, the progression of rails and gaps. I've skated with the guy in the past and he's always been really nice and he's given me a few boards when mine were shit-canned. He's not a bad guy at all.

Sure his business practices are a little janky, but think about it, if you were trying to hold down 3 or 4 brands and also skate pro wouldn't you make some mistakes too?

Anyone on my side or am i going to be the victim of a slap-wide ignore?

I don't hate JT. Hell, I've posted a couple of times how I may now actually buy something from BlackBox.

I hate Jaime! I can't come up with a solid reason why but I hate him. I'm gonna smash him next time for breathing and just living.

However, if it all of a sudden becomes cool to back Jaime than I'm 100% behind him.

No hate here, either. I disagree with him on plenty of shit but that has nothing to do with liking or not liking him. I respect him completely, but I like debating and all that.

jamie is a normal person like the rest of us. he eats, he sleeps, he breathes, and he skates, i can understand giving him a little shit here and there(when it is called for) but it seems like people are just hating on him just for the sake of hating him

Just ask what's his name?

Welcome To Hell....Who can't appreciate that video. It changed a certain aspect of skateboarding forever.

I do disagree with some of his business practices and his Rules but at the end of the day they are his and not mine.

"The guy is human and needs to be loved, just like every one does..."  ;)Seriously, his business practices are on par or better than a lot of companies and personally, he's a nice guy. People like to watch you rise to the top but they love watching you fall.

I got nothing but respect for the guy.  The guy rips.  Even though he didn't respect a locals spot(which is why I think most msg board dweebs hate him), I'm sure everyone here isn't perfect and has done something to be an asshole at one time or another.  I'm pretty sure though that he wouldn't get this much hate if he wasn't Christian or whatever he believes in.  But whatever, all the hate some guys type, those turkey ass suckers wouldn't say to his face.  Barefoot 50-50's and huge ass rails while everyone was still skating curbs.

I don't have a problem with him at all. I was a big Zero fan as a kid and I've always enjoyed his skating. I'm glad a skateboarder who actually seems to care for skateboarding is making a bussiness for himself.

I think Welcome To Hell is his best part, definitely one of the all-time best videos in general, but I think Mislead Youth is my favorite, because it seems like he was having a lot of fun just cruising around doing what he loves. Chomp and all the rest are classics too.

Nope. No way.

That would mean I think for myself. Wouldn't want THAT, now.

people hate here on everything so sometimes it's like whatever...people start to hate someone just because
of some gay rumor that jamie cancelled a premier or whatever. Glad he make it out clear for everyone how it really is.
Well not really glad but it's cool when people have to eat their words!

it gets harsh here on msg once in a while and it got too harsh towards jamie.
well sometimes it's fun but most of the time these threads are just plain bullshit.

He used to be one of my favorites back in the welcome to hell era. I really liked his skating, it was just really raw and solid. And I still liked him when thrill of it all came out.

But then the Jesus stuff and some interviews where he comes across as some kind of right wing republican hypocrite really made me not want to support him. Also, taking a bunch of kids and breeding them into tight pants stuntskaters is just rotten. I think he's in a large part responsible for turning a large portion of skaters into wankers who dye their hair, wear girl's pants and jump down stuff "trying to come up".

I think a pro or company owner should have like an artist's attitude towards it, just do tight shit with a heart and enjoy it. People like penny, creager, muska, lance mountain, etc. etc. there are so many people in skateboarding who obviously have a soul. Jamie thomas doesn't seem like one to me. I mean you consistently hear shit like "permission granted soldier". So that's why I don't want to give my money to his companies.

That said, he is a good skater.

don't prostitute your spiritual beliefs- keep it to yourself.....its like praying or meditating in public....theres even somewhere in the Bible where it says its a sin to flaunt your spirituality/relationship with God.....it should be private and thus kept sacred---- thats no better than Jim Greco bragging about doing drugs, actually its worse-- being a role model and good example to kids is one thing, but don't base ad campaigns on it!!!  There are  just too many idiot Christians in the world.......the black box banner on here kinda makes this message board the gayest thing ever......oh yeah, the rep feature on the profiles contributes as well

this thread may have worked before jamie showed up but.......the first post is just stupid......anybody whos been on here alot in the last few months knows that the ratio of jamie dickriders has been steadily growing in his favor....

its like in world war two when germany was in that great depression so hitlertricked them into backing him by promising to get back aryan pride and economic status and all

the slap boards were all fucked up and boring a
and 'filled with haters'  but now jamie is comming on and recruiting a blackbox army.......

we'll only realize how wrong we were when its too late!!

^^^that was a terrible post huh?

Yeah, I agree this thread should be deleted.
But then again, it's helping with my planned takeover, so why should I be bummed.

don't prostitute your spiritual beliefs- keep it to yourself.....its like praying or meditating in public....theres even somewhere in the Bible where it says its a sin to flaunt your spirituality/relationship with God.....it should be private and thus kept sacred---- thats no better than Jim Greco bragging about doing drugs, actually its worse-- being a role model and good example to kids is one thing, but don't base ad campaigns on it!!!  There are  just too many idiot Christians in the world.......the black box banner on here kinda makes this message board the gayest thing ever......oh yeah, the rep feature on the profiles contributes as well

You're totally with it.

maybe the blackbox army will make all shops that sell blanks have to wear a certain symbol on their door?

I don't care about blanks. People who want blanks, will buy blanks.

Jamie....did you ever wonder if the big fiasco about blank boards/kids not buying pro decks might be due to the fact that so many companies now have so many pros, so the money is just widely spread out as opposed to 5 years ago when there were only 15-20 pros selling the majority of boards? I've always figured that was the issue because I see the same amount of blank and shop decks as I did 5 years ago....or are you really not paying attention to the subject? Just thought I'd ask you since you were a part of that IASC ad with all the pros.

PS about last night... I mentioned this in another thread, but a bunch of the the groms were weird.
Before the video was played, the Mystery/Zero heads did an autograph signing... kids everywhere... just tons... all of them excited to get their boards/posters/etc signed, right?
Anyway, the kids were getting the autographs, then making a b-line straight out the door. I didn't get it... maybe it had to do with some parents wanting to leave early or something, but I just don't get how someone could get an autograph of someone, then want to leave immediately. I'm not really an autograph fan, but if I was, I'd think that I'd want to lurk/bullshit with the person whose signature I so eagerly want.

There was still a pretty good crowd for the premiere, and it was only little groms that left early, but damn, it was quite a few of them.

Last thing: I was especially stoked to meet Elissa. Chick's rad.

Are you all trying to become professional bullriders, riding his dick so hard? Seriously, the first couple of pages in that thread were all hate because he cancelled a premiere, and then as soon as he posted a bullshit excuse it was all better. "It wasn't my call." How the fuck was it not your call, Jamie Thomas? Were you that scared of Drake Jones cracking the whip? Were you worried he was going to fire you if you popped that DVD in?

It doesn't even matter that the premeire was cancelled. It happens all the time. But if you were originally pissed about it, "it wasn't my call" is not a good answer from a company owner. In fact, that is probably the most ridiculous answer he could've possibly given. How could anyone possibly accept that as an answer if they were originally that pissed off? And he's not some kind of saint for giving one kid a ride. I bought a kid a soda the other day, but the "DRNEWTON APPRECIATION" thread has yet to be posted, and my rep is at -16.

What I am trying to figure out is why there are close to 200 pages of SLAP playing good cop/bad cop with Jamie Thomas. "You cancelled that premire!111" "Dude, your seriously so sick. Wanna hang out when you come to my bullshit city?" "WHY DO YOU HATE BLANKS?!" Atleast four other past/present pros post here, and even the greatest magazine writer of all time occasionally spams this forum, but I can't recall any SLAP posters posting pictures with these grown ass men, any 100 page threads, or anyone riding these guys' dicks for five months after they defended themselves. You are not Jamie Thomas' friend because you post on this forum, and if you want to be an insider so bad, go become a sales representative for 20k a year or something.

Newton, you're losing it.
This thread has nothing to do with the premier and just so you know it's possible for things to not be my call.
I can't make every decision about everything. To refresh your memory, here's what I said in the other thread;

"I heard they didn't have a screen to premier it on, so I suggested that they just play it on the tv's while we sign.
We signed for ages and eventually I asked why the video wasn't playing and Drake said that they decided to wait for tomorrow to premier it. No one in line had asked about it, so I just said whatever. I figured if anyone really wanted to see it, they'd go to the demo the next day which is about 20 minutes away from where the signing was."

You can have differences in opinions and still hang out with someone, no one I've met in person from here has said, dude your so rad. We have conversations about our differences in opinions or whatever and it's cool, cause that's what people do when you're talking face to face.

But, I'm sure you'd be above going to a demo or a video premier in Winston Salem, since there's so much else going on.

Who's dick riding?

Some of us are capable of not agreeing with someone, but still having respect for them. Going to a premiere is dick riding? Taking a photo is dick riding? You think any of us that were there are trying to get an "in?" That just doesn't make sense to me. Jamie's well aware of my thoughts on more topics than he's interested in knowing, and in lots of cases, those thoughts run contradictory to his own. I can separate issues I disagree with from the person I disagree with.

Keep in mind, when I did the CEOs site, I pointed directly at Jamie and voiced disagreement with his business, and have been on the record as being in disagreement with certain aspects of his company, as well as theology in general. I don't ride Black Box gear, but that's not because I hate Jamie, and he knows that. We're adults, for fuck's sake. I don't have any reason to step up and spit in his face, nor does he have any reason to do that to me. Call it dick riding all you want, but as much as I disagree with Jamie, I still respect him. If you hate Jamie on a personal level, that's your thing, but if what we did last night was dick riding, then I guess I'm just a squirrel looking for a fucking nut.

And my point was that your too cool to play the video at these "premeires."

You blamed the shop, you blamed your employees, and you even blamed the kids for not telling you they wanted to see the video that was promised on the flyer, but when it came right down to it you could've made the video play. And you didn't. So where are those kids from pages 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. of the "Jamie Thomas is a fuckin' faggot" thread? You were still ultimately responsible for the video not premeireing, and havn't said anything clearing yourself of that responsibility, but because you made some excuses those posters are now gone.

Here are some of the posts I collected:

how do you know thats the reason? maybe the video sucked and he was embarrassed of what he had done to everyone.

Thats fucked.

They shouldnt release it at all because people will put it on mIRC.

damn. What a fucked thing to do.

And you're right...the LEAST he could've done was ask for the audiences cooperation with the whole bootlegging and posting it up on Youtube thing. I cant believe he actually cancelled the whole thing.

looks like skateboarding has some new divas.

the video premier thing is pretty regular, it seems like they could have gone about that differently...but my vote for lame move of the week definitley goes to the hiding of shop/blank boards during the signing...thats just outright regular...

Your damned right I don't pay for that shit. $10 to watch someone else skate? $20 to watch there footage? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I didn't blame anyone, I just stated what happened.
They didn't have any equipment and no one seemed to care about the video at the signing, so it didn't get played, it's that simple.

All of your example posts were before I explained how it went down.
After, people logically understood and for the dude that was most pissed, I went out of my way to make it right.
Not to be seen as a saint, but because I could and thought it was the right thing to do.

Who asked you to pay for anything, we don't charge for our demos or premiers?
Keep up the research though, you're killing it.

Seriously, fucking pick one option and stick with it.

A. No Equipment

What did you explain? I remember you saying something about how Jones didn't play it so kids wouldn't put it on YouTube or something. If he didn't play it because of YouTube, why didn't he? You didn't contribute anything different from what Diego first said. There were 300 kids there, so how do you even know Diego was the most pissed off?

I don't know why you made a whole other thread, but:

So all these dudes at the shop found out Jamie gave me a ride. They said that's cool, and asked why.

So I told em about the whole premire cancellation, and one of the dudes got really pissed.

"We weren't set up for the premire? We have a big screen t.v. in the corner, and 12 overhead monitors so everyone can see from anywhere in the shop"

He then said

"Everyone was asking why the video wasn't showing, so I went up to Jamie, asked him and he said the whole youtube thing, so I just said forget it and walked away"

This guy was livid, and I've known him for about 5 years...

Well I guess that eliminates option A.

Didnt really notice this as a sarcastic answer until a friend pointed it out, but I was just asking your honest opinion on the subject that you do seem to be paying attention to(having the blanks/shop decks taken off the wall, participating in whatever shit the IASC had going on that daywhere you guys all took the pictures repping IASC and their stance on the subject), I wasnt trying to be a dick or anything. If you arent paying attention to it all, then it doesnt make much sense to do those things I mentioned above. If you just dont want to rerspond or have no answer for it, thats cool...but your answer to my question just seems to be adding more confusion to the subject and made it seem like you took my question as some type of insult.

I explained it as it went.
No one complained to us and as far as we know, no one complained to the shop.
I aplogized to Diego and anyone who read the thread that was pissed that the video didn't get shown.
We did a demo and premiered the vid the next night at an indoor skatepark 25 miles from the first signing and it was free.

DrNewton...The guys in the original thread were pissed that the reason of the premiere being cancelled was because of youtube, as origninally stated. Then when Jamie came on and said that wasnt the reason, thats when people stopped being pissed...pretty simple.

Although I just saw the post from the shop about being ready for the premiere, and I'd like to hear the rest of that story.

I met what I thought was sarcasm with sarcasm.
You knew the things you mentioned as "above", so I thought it would be impossible for you to think I wasn't paying attention.

To answer your original question, I've considered all reasons for the sales of blanks to be increasing, but I think there were more pros 5 or so years ago, so I'm not sure that has a lot to do with it. I think it's mostly due to the accessability of blanks. It's also part of the evolution of the industry and even though I was in that photoshoot and the IASC book, I'm not actively involved in what they're doing.

All of that said, I don't really care about it much anymore, I'm just trying to focus on what we're doing.

Look at you fucking people! You're the people I hated in high school who judged all the skaters. Your just fucking jocks who want to be right and judge people. I dont care about Jamie either way, but hearing all these "skaters" on here belly aching and whining is fucking disgusting. You guys are the fakes, posers and kooks. You're on the sidelines and JT is in the game. Thats why you want to hate on him and BB.

Go do something you really like. Shopping in a mall, going to high school dances, Picking on kids who really skate...Get a life kooks.

don't prostitute your spiritual beliefs- keep it to yourself.....its like praying or meditating in public....theres even somewhere in the Bible where it says its a sin to flaunt your spirituality/relationship with God.....it should be private and thus kept sacred---- thats no better than Jim Greco bragging about doing drugs, actually its worse-- being a role model and good example to kids is one thing, but don't base ad campaigns on it!!!  There are  just too many idiot Christians in the world.......the black box banner on here kinda makes this message board the gayest thing ever......oh yeah, the rep feature on the profiles contributes as well

how come you made everyone refilm their tricks so much for that video? is that why its so short?

The only reason anyone would need to refilm a trick would be because it was either done sketchy or filmed sketchy.
Sometimes that stuff doesn't matter, but the video style for this vid is pretty clean, so if something's sketchy, it would stand out.

But no, the few amount of tricks that needed to be refilmed didn't affect the length of the video.

I'm not talking in circles and I don't really care what "you" want.
I wrote the facts that I felt were relevant to your claims/questions.

It sounds like there was a miscommunication between our TM's and the shop. I was not involved in the planning of the event in the beginning or when we arrived and I didn't know what was going on until late in the situation. That's my fault, but I assumed things were under control. My assumptions about the reason why the video wasn't shown seems to have pissed the dudes at the shop off, so I plan to call the shop and figure out what they were told and by who. Then we can determine what went wrong where, that way it doesn't happen again.

But to you, Judge Wopner, I owe nothing.

It was clear that the reason they were pissed is that the video was cancelled because "somebody might film it and put it on youtube"....Once it was cleared up that it was not because of that, then the guys werent pissed because for other more understandable reasons, shit like this happens with premieres all the time.   This question you keep asking has been cleared up already 5 times.

Dang, man you're really digging.
The footage in Baker Bootleg was my sponsor me video, that's not any great discovery. I asked Per from Blitz to take it out because at the time I wasn't on good terms with anyone on Baker except Ellington, so there was no reason for me to be in there vid, especially, my sponsor-me vid. It was just in there to stir crap up. I told Per it wasn't cool or legal and he had J. take it out. I think he told J. I threatened to sue, so J. would take it serious, but it didn't get that far.

Truth is, I care less and less about blank boards everyday. If we're doing rad crap and making rad crap, our stuff will sell. If we're not, it won't.
We did ask shops to take down blanks and shop boards for the day on this tour for the first time. No one complained except for heads on here.
But, I wouldn't do it again, not because of you, but because I don't think it's neccessary. As long as we supply the shops with tour boards and they can sell for the same price as the blank/shop boards, I think kids will buy those if they want them signed regardless if there's shop boards right there. Live and learn.

No it hasn't you fucking person. The story I'm getting is that Drake Jones cancelled it because kids would put it on YouTube, but the kids didn't care. According to the skateshop guys it was YouTube. I don't recall him ever saying it wasn't YouTube. He just said that Drake Jones said it, along with six other different things.

So do you still support this:?

Blank boards are totally lame, when you buy a blank board your giving your money to some fat idiot wearing track pants trying to make a quick buck of skateboarding, i would much rather have a skateboarder owned company get my money so they can continue to A. Actually pay skaters, B. Make rad shit, C. Give people jobs, D. Make sick videos for me to watch

Support what? Muska's website or Muska's view?

I'm not psyched on blank boards and I still back what I've said about the topic, but I'm not consuming myself with trying to figure out what to do about it. I need to worry about what we need to do to support skateboarding and keep our brands relevant, so that's what I'm doing.

...that, and answering your pressing questions.

Be sure to keep us posted on this. I figured you would choose one of the other six reasons you've already posted, but you completely threw me for a loop by adding a seventh.

How about this: You claim not to care about blank boards, and that you just had the shops put them in the back that day so it would be all about the Zero boards. Well why didn't you force them to put all of the non-Zero boards in the back, including graphics?

Or this: what was that footage you had removed from the Baker video of? I heard you threatend to sue....
[close]

I'm not sure who Diego talked to that was livid, cause I talked to the dude who was running the show during our signing (also the dude Drake talked to) and he was real mellow and apologetic for all the drama.

He said that he and Drake discussed how the video could be premiered with most of the people outside and if it would be possible to monitor kids filming the video since it would be playing on several tv's in different locations throughout the store. He told me they agreed there wasn't a good way to host a formal premier, so they thought it would be best if we just waited and showed the video the next day at the demo.

He said he didn't hear any complaints until the past few days with the message board drama.

I think Diego has other friends that work at the store or friends that were pissed about the situation and maybe they posted the story as their own.
If anyone has any other sides of the story they heard from so and so, post them along with the sources and we'll get to the bottom of it.

To be honest, when I saw this post on page 5 of the "homosexual" thread:

From the shop in question website's
A big thanks to everone who made it out in the rain last night to meet the Zero and Mystery teams. We had over 300 people waiting patiently inline for a chance to meet their favorite pro's and they did a great job ensuring everyone got their pictures and autographs. Unfortunatley, we ran short of time to show the video, but be on the lookout for it in the shop soon.

In my mind right away I called it shop owner greed. Only because I've had similar experiences with shop owners hosting demo tours, even worse. I'm sure the shop would prefer seeing 300 kids buying boards that day and coming back to the shop later to buy the video than showing it for free, which is more likely the real reason most of them showed up.

I can appreciate the bootlegging concern too, and don't blame BB for trying to not let it out at least until the tour is over. Premiere is premiere!

I can totally appreciate Diego's anger at driving that far only to find it cancelled. That's not cool and makes everyone involved accountable. It was advertized, skaters showed, vid didn't show, it could have been a disaster. I praise the well-mannered skaters who showed up.

The smart thing to do would have been to listen to Jamie's suggestion and show it on some of the small TV's.

Just my two cents.

i ran in the shop that day to buy a belt, and the shop in question had about 20 employees on hand there that day, so im sure there was some kind of miscommunication. i think that while about 80% of the kids that showed for the signing made it to the demo the following day, there are the remaining 20% that do live out in diego's neck of the woods and progressive skatepark is quite a drive that may be out of the question. so i can sympathize with diego's frustration. i wouldnt necessarily jump on a message board and declare jamie a homosexual, but thats just how kids roll these days. haha im glad things panned out the way they did, and for anyone that missed the video at the shop and the park, be patient. its REALLY sick and worth buying. mad props to the zero/mystery dudes for a good demo and video

well the store is actually divided half and half pretty much. ambush (the shop) also runs www.buyskateshoes.com, and the skate employees skate, hell theres even one of the local atlanta legends working in there. so yes they sell wakeboards, but skateboarding is still the biggest part of the shop, they do a lot of events and give back to the skate community. so if that doesnt constitute a good skateshop then i dont know what does.

Any "skate shop" that has over 20 employees working at once has every reason to have the finger pointed back at them.

Christ, when you said you walked in and three people were bitching about the video being cancelled, I pictured maybe two workers, and maybe the owner. Instead, we get a fraction of how many people work there.

I couldn't imagine holding a video premiere at a department store, and then later hearing how the Pet Department thinks Jamie's a fagot.

actually the shop only has a little over 10 employees i think

and the reason they were all there working was due to the hundreds and hundreds of kids in line. theyd be retards to have 3 people trying to keep 500 little zero fans in order.

brawler do you skate much?

no need to point any fingers or place any blame. its all been said and done. no one in any part of the situation did anything wrong. the shop was completelly justified in having all hands on deck for the signing, as it was host to about 500 kids around the time i was there. there is nothing wrong with selling wakeboards, and in truth the shop has been around for about 10 years and has made all its money off skateboarding before getting into the wake biz. it is a good shop with good employees, many of whom im glad to call friends. no need to bash the store.

Carrying wakeboards is kinda questionable but it sounds like they do alot for the local scene.
Kinda crazy thinking about running a store that massive, stress fest.r

I'm pointing the finger because of the stinkfest Diego caused about going into the shop "after" the whole thing had happened. He cried wolf over everything and anything.

I'm proving the fact that if you're calling someone a "fucking fagot", people may want to look at both sides.

Nobody had any clue it was a big store when "three dudes were complaining about him".

And Degayho, I do skate. I just have a full time job and a drinking habit; two things you don't seem to have. So I more positive things with free time, like making fun of people online.

i ran in the shop that day to buy a belt, and the shop in question had about 20 employees on hand there that day, so im sure there was some kind of miscommunication. i think that while about 80% of the kids that showed for the signing made it to the demo the following day, there are the remaining 20% that do live out in diego's neck of the woods and progressive skatepark is quite a drive that may be out of the question. so i can sympathize with diego's frustration. i wouldnt necessarily jump on a message board and declare jamie a homosexual, but thats just how kids roll these days. haha im glad things panned out the way they did, and for anyone that missed the video at the shop and the park, be patient. its REALLY sick and worth buying. mad props to the zero/mystery dudes for a good demo and video

Diego, let me re-iterate the fact that when you stated "three workers" were bitching about the premiere after it had already been over with, I pictured three people being a small portion compared to the number of people that normally do work at skate shops.

I'm pointing out the size, simply due to the fact that that "three workers" there really isn't that many, and that their say really isn't a voice for the whole store, as most people read it to be.

And also, "not understanding his Chinese", is... well... You have proven yourself to be more of a prejudice redneck than I thought you were to be.

Please do us all a favour and stop posting.

Over here, everyone's a Zero fan and can't understand how some people on the Net can be the opposite, either preferring him with a shaved head or just plain hating him! When will the fallen video premiere/be released?

October.

Hey Jamie....why no Chicago area stop on your little tour?

We did the stops based on region and we had promised Creme City a stop a few years ago, so we stayed true to that.
Hopefully, we'll visit chicago next US tour, cause I'd love to go there..

Regarding, all of the shop bashing.
They buy a lot of our crap, so of course I'm biased, but they have a lot of teams come through and they seem cool to everyone and have a ton of boards and everything skateboarding you could want, so I'm backing them.

That said, I don't think it would have been a bad idea to put 2 doors in the front of the building and and a wall between wake town and skate town, but it's not my store, so I'm high fiving them all the same.

He's about to turn 40 and isn't known as Reynolds is for the Ice baths and health foods. His Cold War part is IMHO, a step up from his New Blood part (released nearly ten years previously). That's not to say it's not a decent part but he wasn't going as big and skating as gnarly as he did for Cold War. I hope he can keep it up but if not I'm happy he managed to produce what was his CW part.
