Title: So, I bought a Wii.
Post by: Mullet Man on November 11, 2007, 08:38:01 AM
There are probably other Wii topics, but fuck 'em. Fuck your search button.

Anyway, I like it. The weird remote Chuck Norris thingie is sick. I snagged Wario Ware and it ranks highly on the Makes-You-Look-Like-An-Idiot-O-Meter. But it's fun as fucking hell and hilarious too. I got Mario Galaxy happening on Tuesday, so I'm psyched.

Winter is here, so I guess it's video game time.

The Wii has been around for a lot longer than 3 months, and every store I went to were selling the shit out of them. I saw like 4 people buy one in like five minutes. The system is not going anywhere.

I wanna get into Metroid Prime 3.

I love my wii.  Sending it off to get modded by a reputable chip installer (D2C chipset requires 30 wires).  I still play my Nintendo DS lite more than anything.

Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Paper Mario, Zack and Wiki.

All must have games for anyone who owns (or knows someone who owns) a Wii.

It's too bad Rare are exclusive to Microsoft, otherwise I'd be hyped for another Donkey Kong 64 like game.

On the plus side, a new Banjo KAzooie game is set for release on the 360 next year.

Play backups of Wii and gamecube games.  That's pretty much it.  The homebrew game scene is coming along slowly.

Let me know how it goes. I'm planning on modding the Wii too. I have a lot of places to get it done, but I'd rather hear more first person accounts of their experience.

Modding my xbox 1 was the best thing I could have ever done.

ill repeat everyones comment so far: get zelda and metroid. i own most of the games that have been release in north america for it and i can say those two are the best so far. paper mario is up there though, that shits addicting. wii bowling and the tanks game on wii play are pretty fancy also.

DK64???  You really like collecting that much shit?  Anyways, Wii's alright, I copped a few at launch ebay'd em and kept one.  Twilight Princess was just Ocarina of Time 1.5, I'm kinda over the same formula, though I did make it all the way through.  I like the way FPS's control on it over dual analog, but Wii's online's a joke so nothing's ever gonna take COD4's place at the moment.  I'm picking up Mario today, but after that I might sell it in the holiday rush, and put it towards Rock Band.  I don't know if it's worth keeping after that for Mario Kart and Smash Bros.  If anyone sees one in a store about now and have any idea how to use ebay it'd be a pretty good idea to pick it up, you can make about 75 now easy, and it's probably only gonna go up.

As much as I hope they nail 1:1 lightsaber controls for this game, they most likely won't.  Wiimote controls thus far have been overwhelmingly disappointing.  Not only that, but this games gonna look like complete ass compared to the PS3/360 versions.  Besides any Wii's sold this holiday season are gonna bring in a pretty penny.  I'm already on my second personal one, and have sold 4 overall.  I sold my used one last year after I ran out of games I wanted for more than retail.  I can always pick one up again.

What games are fun the the DS?
Mario Kart DS
New Super Mario Bros
Princess Peach
Super Mario 64 DS
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan/Moeru Nekketsu Rhythm/Elite Beat Agents
Hotel Dusk
Lego Star Wars
Brain Training
New York Times Crossword
Tons of RPG games if that's your flavor (Front Mission, Children of Mana, Lunar Knights, etc.)

And. . .every release date is like Christmas if you own one of these and know how to use it:
http://www.volumerate.com/details.vr/sku.1202

I actually own 3 of them so I can have cartridges split up into categories like all rpg, all nintendo first-party titles, children's games (for when my 3 year old wants to play there's a Crayola coloring game that she totally fucking loves).

Yeah, the best thing about the system is the ability to play old nintendo stuff.  The only current game I played on mine when I had one was Wii sports.  The rest of the time I played throwback games.  So good.

how much of a plus is that feature when emulators for computers work just as well?

It's a plus for me because
-my computer has a 15 inch screen, my TV's screen is bigger
-Have you ever tried to play an N64 emulator?  That shit works for OG nintendo, but the more buttons on a controller the harder it is to play.  I'd much rather use the gamecube controller to play star fox.
-You have a use for all of those game cube games you have lying around.

i use a ps2 controller with an adapter for my computer for n64 games.  the analog stick works just fine, try it.

i have about 15 or so ps2 games, but i havent played any of them using my ps3 for a couple of reasons:  1) im tired of them, and 2) i'd rather play ps3 games.  ps2 games just look too blocky and crappy now to hold my interest for very long.  some people say graphics dont matter and its all about the gameplay.  that is true to some extent, but having an hd setup makes the eye-candy that much sweeter and it is hard to compromise.

i understand what you are saying though.  i just dont think it would be considered a big plus for me.

Actually, with issues arising from their dealextreme server being on USA soil, they were threatened to be shut down if they continued to sell that product.  So, they outsourced it to these guys (basically same dudes, except server is located elsewhere).

http://www.volumerate.com/details.vr/sku.1202

Ingredients required: R4 DS, microSD card, and computer

R4 is very easy drag and drop.  Just download the "operating system" from here : http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=858
Drag the entire contents into the root folder of the microSD card.
Drag the ROMs of the games you downloaded into the root folder (don't overfill since a SAV file will be created for each gamesave and going over will corrupt your microSD card)
Fire up your DS Lite and kick yourself for not getting one sooner.  Easiest "mod" ever.
If you want to, you can even download "themes" to change the look of the user interface here: http://www.ndsthemes.com/

Somebody else want to step in and explain how to work moonshell to play MP3, watch movies, and open ebooks using the the R4 (since I've never done it)?

interesting about the server issue.. i bought a cell phone blocker last month (highly illegal and very very recommended) with no problems - but i know how much of an annoying gnat-on-the-ass Nintendo can be (located in our city).   PSP 1.5firmware guy here - that is enough handheld hacking fun for me.

derails aside, getting super mario galaxy tomorrow before the helliday rush.

The R4 software comes with Moonshell. You just gotta convert them to the .dpg files. There's a program called "Batch Dpg". It's pretty good if you want to watch skate videos on the shitter, or beat off at the office toilet at lunch.

Quality's perfect too.

I wish I had the zapper when I was renting the Umbrella Chronicles and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2.  The controls on that Medal of Honor is fucking dope.  That's okay, I'm finally sending my Wii out to get modded (flying the family home for the funeral cost me $1200!) then I can play the backups I made of those games.

Dude, let me know how it goes. Apparently, you need a certain model of LG burner to rip the discs, but I guess everything is perfect. Are you getting the Wii Key?

I'm getting the D2C key installed since I have a newer Wii.  Yes, you do need a specific LG DVD-ROM drive to rip.  8164B to be exact.  I'm sort of hording the shit out of them since they no longer make those and it is near impossible to find one below $50.  I bought 4 of them from ebay, and I don't plan on selling them since I also have a mod that also allows me to use it as replacement drive for my xbox.

so what you are saying is its pointless to get it modded because you just have to go get some burner that isnt made anymore? thats too much of a fucking hastle, ill just buy the games.

Nah, you can burn the iso with pretty much any burner and nero.  You can only rip games with that specific drive model.  Most titles are available on bittorrent for download, too.

I think with the xbox 1, I actually ripped maybe two games. Both of which were ones I owned and had already beaten.

I kinda miss raping my bandwidth for video game ISO's.

If you throw a hard drive in there, you'll save some $$$. I threw a 120 gig in there, and gave away my spindle of discs.

Can you play Metroid online?

Like, since there's no headset piece, and we played together, would we have to pause the game, and type a post on Slap with "You stay by the door, and I'll infiltrate the front", unpause, and then play?

They're saying the DS will eventually have compatibility with the Wii, so imagine how rad it would be if we were shooting doodz, and I got to draw a dick on the DS, send it to him, and then talk into the mic about how I think he likes it?

Guitar Hero online's pretty sick. It needs shit talking headphone stuff, though.
