pixies have played a very important part in my life. i will always have love for them and anything frank black touches. i'm not the biggest fan of the breeders but nothing can taint what kim deal has done with the pixies.

Black performed a live score to the film "The Golem" at the Castro Theatre for the San Francisco International Film Festival a week or two back. It was definitely an experience.

if and when i accidentally get a girl pregnant, i'll be sure to get this for my illegitimate son and or daughter:

pixies are hipster shit these days?  according to who?

they've been pretty much my favorite band for about half my life...i've never really been all that into frank black's solo stuff, but i fucking love the breeders.  i got to see pixies a few years ago and it was fucking awesome, but i've never seen the breeders, and they're playing here next month...anyone seen them lately?  worth putting up with a shitty big venue?

oh yeah, alec eiffel's the shit.  trompe le monde has always been my favorite album, esp palace of the brine/letter to memphis

Yeah, love them and the Breeders, not too into Frank Black's solo stuff, but I haven't heard the last couple albums he's put out and I think they're supposed to be a lot different from the other ones so maybe I should give them a listen.
My first real show was seeing them when they were doing that reunion tour in like 03 or 04.

frank black's solo shit is pretty sick. i used to have cult of ray like just before high school, but god knows where that cd wondered off to. does anyone have his first album they'd be willing to send, i am in no position to buy a cd cos i'm just about to spend all the money i've ever earned in my life in paris, and i don't wanna put limewire on my computer. it would be greaaaatly appreciated right now.

Do you just want a link to download it, or the cd itself?
I'm 99% sure it's in a shoebox under my bed, and I have no attachment to cd's themselves anymore cause all my stuff is on my computer/ipod. I could do a pass off from Vicky to Brian to you.

Or if you just wanna download it here you go:

Make that 100% sure. I've also got his second album Teenager of the Year, and Last Splash, Pod, and Title Tk by the Breeders, if you want them too.

I've actually been living out kinda by Reading a lot lately, so my time in Philly has been limited, but I've got a job starting up in a few weeks in center city so I'll be around more so we should definitely meet up then.

And I should be seeing Vicky in a little under a week so I'll give her those cd's then and hopefully they'll make their way to you soon...or maybe I should just mail them.

Oh, and I did some more looking and I've also got this if you want it:

It took me a while to get into them, but once i did, the music wormed its way into my soul. Probably my favorite band ever.
Sold my left nut for a scalped ticket to see them in Vancouver for their reunion gig when regular tix sold out in 4 minutes.

Truthfully, they didn’t gel as a band until 2/3 though the performance, I guess it HD been a while for all of them. It was magical when it finally happened.

But truthfully, one of the best live performances I ever saw was Frank Black around 2000. He fucking marched though 2 hours with no breaks or banter, super tight and the energy was amazing.

I also love the Breeders too, all those bands are amazing.

Bumping this because I'm going to see the Pixies in September.

Saw them about 4 years ago and they were fantastic. Best sounding show I've heard at that venue. Strange performance though. Like no speaking between songs, no breaks, basically two straight hours of music. They hit everything I wanted to hear though, Crackity Jones went off! Very minimal staging too, like you were looking at what they'd have set up in the studio. They trimmed every bit of fat from the show.

Also got my favorite coffee mug from that show. Other side has the flying P from Trompe.

That’s exactly what the Frank black show I saw almost 20 years ago was like.

Listening to Trompe now thanks to this thread and I'm fighting off the urge to go learn this one. I don't think I've ever took the time to learn a Pixies song surprisingly. I think I learned the progression to where is my mind, but everyone learns that one. Anyone else have any favorites they play?

Cactus is an amazing song and super simple to play. Bowie loved it.
Hey is the one I have the most experience playing with others, both the acoustic and lead parts are fun.
Can’t go wrong learning any of them though.

Gonna leave this cover here. Done by an awesome soul and Boston constituent of the Pixies.

Saw them at the Ritz in 1992.  Can't believe they still sound as good as they do this far into the next century.  His solo and Catholics and Grand Duchy Stuff is also the best.

I'm curious also to know the story behind Koston's use of Los Angeles in Yeah Right.  Is he an FB fan or somebody else picked the song for him?  I know his good friend Berra skated to Debaser in an old Foundation video.

I was a huge Pixies fan and even caught them live a couple of times in the 90's. Somehow though, I have had zero desire to listen to them really since then. I listen mostly to late 90's stuff still, but just was over them for some reason.

Pixies we’re an otherworldly experience when I got into them.

It’s like they took a pop song and played all the hooks sideways. And wrote lyrics to fit the music, nonsensical, spontaneous growls, shrieks, rapid Spanish.

It was so odd, so unlike anything I ever experienced, and so PURE. Pure music, not structured, but evolving, like Jazz but with a punk sensibility.

Although they aren’t perhaps my favorite band, their old stuff is still probably the best ‘music’ I’ve ever heard. Caribou still gives me shivers.

I was lucky to have caught the Pixies shortly after their reunion, around 2005. Street Scene in San Diego. It was awesome. They played a great set. Front row too. They all appeared in good spirits and were talkative throughout their set. Haven't listened much to their newer tunes. Bummer Kim left.
