Title: Skating and tattoos
Post by: artichoke on June 16, 2008, 11:28:52 PM
Sup guize,
I got my first tattoo today, and got the usual "you never want to have your tattoo in direct sunlight without sunblock" speech.  My question is, do you guys put sunscreen on every time before you go skate, and if not, how (if it all) has it affected your tattoo over the years?

no. ive put sunscreen on my tattoos maybe 3 times and ive had them for 3 years, including a sleeve. the only thing that has faded was the white but white doesnt stay. my tattoos still look awesome for the most part except part of my elbow in my sleeve is missing from skating

but,
you should wear sunscreen on it. better be safe than sorry.

If its brand new don't burn it, but aside from that you should be fine treating it like normal skin.

Word, thanks.  That's kind of what I figured.

Picking up a few of these motherfuckers so that I can skate during the day for the next few weeks while it heals:

If my six month old wants a tattoo of a firetruck on his forehead, he's gonna have one.

i've ink all over my body but the most exposed part with a lot of work is my right arm. it's all color bomb shit and the color has lasted over the past 5 years quite nicely, but i do sun screen my arm. Also, depending on where you got your ink you might not want to skate for a day or two. I didn't skate all last week because i had 2 big ass pieces worked on and i'm prone to falling everytime that i go skate. keep your shit clean man!!!! get more ink too!!

I think it would be sick to get a little crailtap board on the inside of my bicep, where it's not too visible.  I'd probably feel guilty though, seeing as how I only skate a couple times a week.

Almost every tattoo I've ever wanted, and there have been more than a few, I'd consider to be an embarrassment now.

it could serve as motivation, like "now i HAVE to skate"

Cover it. I got one two years ago and didn't cover it in the sun and it faded a lot.

Theres a little thing called touch ups...your shit is going to be wrinkled and faded by the time youre 60 anyway, so just fucking enjoy it.

well skin starts to form around the age of 17. By 18 you should have a whole suit of skin all over your body for people to color on

touch ups are a pain in the ass. I hate asking my boys to touch shit for a couple of reasons- one being that their art is sacred, so it needs to be taken care of. not doing so is disrespect. two, like you said it's going to faded by the time youre 60 anyways. but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take care of it. If you've got some crazy ass colors and want em to look good, use some sun block, at least for the first month or two.

ive had to do one touch up in the pit of my arm since i was 18 since the color didnt stay well cause i was bad with letting it heal. its not good to get a lot of touch ups cause the skin can only hold so much ink.
