Title: High noon at wallenberg, part 2?
Post by: heckler on August 05, 2008, 08:22:59 PM
It started at Wallenberg in 1991, when Jesse Paez frontside 180’d the Big Four for 263 bucks. The kickflip was up next; Markovich got denied, but we gave him the cash anyway after some serious stacks. Then came 2004. I called ’em out, they came, they saw, they got broke. Aaron Artis? Gizmo? Anybody remember Elissa Steamer? Everybody out there, save the date and put this on your radar: On August 30th, 2008, history will be made as SF rises again. $10,000 for first place, $25,000 purse (this ain’t no Maloof shit, bitch), and I’ll give a grand to any broad who’ll jump the secret stack that we got lined up. Reynolds? Duffel? Ramondetta? Romero? Malto? Bachinsky? Gravette? Fellers? Dompierre? Come on down, more details coming real soon...

I'm going to dress up in drag and huck my carcass for a grand.  I figure the last stairset I ollied was four stairs, so this is pretty similar to that.

it would probably have to be in a place that can house a large crowd (which Wallenburg was perfect for). No bust-free spots that fit that criteria spring to mind.

because he said secret stack i'm guessing that it's probably a set of stairs or something & not a street gap. i don't think it would be smart to have a bunch of people there anyway. somebody mentioned the lincoln set & i actually think that would be a good place to have it.

As lame as everyone probably thinks it is, I've always imagined this type of thing going down at El Toro.  If you're gonna do it, might as well go all out.  Put up a Maloof esque prize pool and shit would get gnarly.  Too bad it's gone.

California Street gap got paved in, and would probably be the worst setting for an event ever. The Lincoln 13 is done, but the 14 rail is still there, but that wouldn't really work out, because its in a weird corner. You know where a cool place would be? That one school with the 2 twelve sets in a row. Make people do double lines. Maybe next year...
Title: Re: High noon at wallenberg, part 2?
Post by: theotits beezy on August 06, 2008, 12:19:33 AM
yeah, but would it be a big deal, or even worth a grand if a chick ollied a 13? not really, it has to be something else.

yeah i guess that's true. & now that i think of it, it really has to be more of or at least an equal challenge that wallenberg gives. & i'm just having a hard time thinking of anything in san francisco that fits the bill.

whats going to be better than a kick front board? and once again, it is that gnarly if a girl ollies it? wallenburg is gnarly, phelps makes it sound like this location is supposed to be gnarlier.
Higher likelyhood of injury if some unprepared soul steps to it. The rail will be in play too. I don't think I've ever seen a girl ollie a set even close to 16 stairs.

Marisa Dal Santo kickflipped like a 12 or a 13.  I could see her olleing a 16. That spot would be sick but I really want it to go down at wallenberg.  Yeah, it's a 16, but Wallenberg is epic.  Reynolds going for a back heel, hardflip from Bachinsky, it would be history in the making.  That 16 is big but someone mentions a NBD down Wallenberg and you're immediately interested.  At the 16, all I could see going down is a switch back 180, tre flip, a switch flip or heel, nollie flip or heel, a bs flip, etc. pretty much all the shit that's been done down hh but a better since the set is smaller, some shit's ABD and there's a cash prize. For the handrail: front blunt to fakie, back tail to fakie, fs noseblunt, switch crook, and some other shit. Didn't marks kickflip back 5050 it?

that would be sick but how would they hold a crowd there? plus traffic, etc. i've never been there so i don't know all of the conditions but i've seen it in a couple skate videos and it seems like it would be hard to manage a contest there.

i've never been in person to either the set its allegedly going to be at, or the 16 at the maloof contest, but I can't help but connect the two and think of a barrage of everyone's tricks they have on lockdown going down...still rad to see and to hear what goes down, but no where near the epic nature of the original high noon at wallenburg contest

Another one at Wallenberg would still be tight, the first one seemed like the craziest thing to see IRL.
I gained a whole new respect for Reynolds seeing that. All these pros were just hucking themselves and praying, and usually falling way short. Reynolds shows up late. Ollies the three, Ollies the 4, tries one or two frontside flips, and on the 3rd or 4th try, rolls away like it was nothing.
But in all honesty, as crazy as it was to see shit go down there, not much went down. I want carnage for this one!
