Post by: biggums mcgee on September 10, 2008, 05:34:38 PM
Well its getting to be that time of the year again when I start busting out the hot teas. Take some with milk, others with honey, and most with mint leaves. Here are afew of my favorites:

99 cent store, my fridge is never empty.

Always pick up two of those 2 galloon jugs or whatever at the store almost every week and a half for $5 bucks. Those things always end up empty within 5-6 days. Intervention is needed.

Anyone that drinks black teas, I highly suggest the PG Tips.

A Brit friend put me on to this last year while living in Spain.  Brought home a few boxes, thinking I would never be able to find them in the states.
But low and behold my local Hannaford has them.  80 bags for $5, can't go wrong.

word, PG Tips is good. A proper cup of tea (brewed in a pot, only a small amount of milk and no sugar) is the best thing ever, I don't think I could go without it in the mornings. Seems to help with hangovers too.

Glad this was bumped.

I love teas.

Dandelion with honey and oat or almond milk.

I make a great spicey tea with lots of grated ginger, make sure it's grated and not sliced. Peppercorns, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon bark.

Straight up rosemary in hot water.

Fresh mint from the garden.

I love tea.

I have seen these stainless steel ball things do you just put it in that and leave it for a few minutes?

I think I’ve only had earl grey just in teabags, I really like that one. As I type I am realising teabags are probably like instant coffee I bet the fresh stuff is way nicer

Good loose leaf is way better than the tea bags.

That being said, the No Frills out here sells a box of 100 Ahmed Early Grey tea bags for six CAD. I couldn't pass that up.

I just can't do Lipton, Twinnings, or Bigalow. I'll have nothing before I'll do any of those.

One thing I hate about being a tea drinker is that so many cafe employees will handle money and everything else then they'll touch the tea bags or the tea. Not feeling that... I'm not paying 3 dollars for for that shit.

been drinking a ton of green tea lately through out the day, sometimes i'll add some ginger, lemon or mint.

i also like black tea, chamomile, straight mint.

i bought some weird teas in bags lately, some where pretty good. one was with indian basil and other stuff, pretty good. there is one that looks weird and has spirulina in it, in the beginning it's blue, then it turns green when it's done. it tastes like some weird multiflavor chewing gum.

generally i found green tea with stuff like orange peel, lemongrass and mint turns out to taste pretty much like a juicy fruit strip. awesome.

i never add sugar, too much sugar fucks me up. i'm not diabetic i just feel generally shitty after consuming a lot. i have to keep the level low so i can have my piece of chocolate in the evening.

I just watched this yesterday and I feel like piece of shit. I was straight duped. I’ve been to the celestial seasonings tea tour, even bought a sick sleepy time shirt at the giftshop, and I felt like I was supporting a local business considering they’re just a couple miles away from here.
Long story short for anyone doesn’t feel like watching. Celestial seasonings had little passages on their boxes and bags that came from a eugenics book called Urantia, that Hitler referenced “as the Bible” and it inspired him to write mein kampf.

Other than that I enjoy genmaicha tea with a spot of honey.
Oh and lemongrass tea. I remember I was visiting my grandma in Guyana and she had a whole field of fresh lemongrass. I haven’t had a cup comparable to that brew since I went.

I‘ve been tea total for almost 18 months. Before that I was a whisky fan (the good stuff, Scotch single malt), and missed the many flavors. I found out you can blend your own teas and whereas it won‘t get you drunk you can at least have some kind of tasting experience.

I mostly dabble with herbal and fruit teas, best fresh from a pot (rosemary, thyme), fresh ginger, lemon, orange or tangerine peels, or dried stuff like bamboo leafs, lemongrass, orange blossom. Good open leaf moroccan mint is very nice. You can also use vanilla, cinnamon, whatever you want. As sweetener, rasp some licorice.

you could just mix some lavender, chamomile, and some valerian root if you want an alternative. Pretty sure I just saw tension tamer on instacart. Also yogi and tazo have really effective nighttime teas.

Tried cutting down on beer abit this summer, and whenever i did the hardest part always seemed to find a replacmend beverage that quenches (that kinda) thirst. Dont really like sodas, which leaves little options

So i started pouring my excess tea from the pot in a bottle and putting it in the fridge overnight.
Then the next day after work, pour a glass of that instead of going for a cold beer. Didnt even miss it.

We drink maaaaad teas in this house. Most are loose herbal teas made for relaxation, sleep, rest. Chamomile, Passion flower, skull cap, California poppy... all sorts of stuff in there to help you mellow out. We've got some pretty good ones for seasonal stuff as well, like a lung/respiratory tea that's pretty legit.

Golden Milk is bomb too. Ginger, Turmeric, black pepper, honey, milk. Good for the stomach, mind, and inflammation

I'm not sure the ratio, because my partner always makes it, but we use a non-dairy milk (I find coconut and hemp milk to be the creamiest), ground fresh turmeric, ground fresh ginger, coconut oil, black pepper to help absorb curcumin in turmeric for anti inflammatory stuff, and optional cinnamon and honey to sweeten it up. Bring it all to a low boil/bubble and it's ready to drink. I think the ratio might be 4parts turmeric 1 part ginger. of course this can vary with powdered varieties but it's really pretty hard to mess up if you like the tastes of this stuff.

We make numerous mason jars quantity at a time so we can drink it often without having to do the work. powders are a lot easier

I've been grating, ginger, turmeric, lemon peel, then adding lemon juice, cayanne, pepper, maple syrup, water.....boiling, letting it cool and put it in a mason jar.  Its good to have around to add to hot or cold water.

I make kombucha too....once you start you kinda can't let your scobie down.....

Do you mean kava? It fucked me up somewhat and I couldn’t feel my mouth but the best times I had was just the root in hot chocolate at home nice little nightcap sort of thing

Getting real into a lemon infusion and honey before bed. It’s getting cold down here and it makes a better night stand drink than a coors

I drink 2 cups of tea a day and love it.

It‘s important not to let black tea steep too long. Otherwise I also get dizzy of it.

I am mostly on herbal stuff, just made a pot with fresh peppermint, oregano, rosemary,  sage (all from my pots), added fresh ginger and dried hibiscusflowers. Nice!

yeah, i'm better with drinking coffee on an empty stomach than black tea. but i had to cut that down as well.

i used to work in coffee til covid for years and i cut my consumption down by a ton during work. i legit thought i had heart issues at some point, like super high blood pressure and shit. i probably had 6 shots everyday morning until noon from tasting if the espresso flows right. then add two to three shots or filter coffees just because i wanted to drink some and i was at 9 or sometimes more shots of espresso and some filter coffee.

i'm now down to one to two cups of filter coffee and i have way less stomach and digestive issues, less headaches and feel way more chill and less moody. also coffee actually amps me up again. my blood pressure at least feels normal again as well. another reason to cut out the amount is that i pretty much only buy specialty coffee from local roasters and as that stuff is expensive i don't want to burn through it in a few days by drinking a whole pot. i'd rather have two types of beans and alternate between them. usually get one that's more like a more classic, nutty roast for the mornings and some more typical specialty lighter roast with some nice acidity/juiciness for cup two in the noon.

at home we always keep some cookies on the table to have with our tea and coffee. i actually love having coffee with a hearty breakfast like scrambled eggs, beans and grilled cheese sandwiches. green tea goes well with veggie heavy breakfasts, like israelian salad, avocados, fruits. for some reason i love black teas along tuna salad sandwiches. chamomile in the morning when i feel stomach sensitive and only feel like i can munch down a banana and some buttered toast.
