just setting up my first and probably last ruscyzk foundation board (got it off ebay hell cheap, too) and just thinking this dude needs some appreciation. even though he's outta the game, he always did his own shit and gave foundation that creative edge. best no complies ever, too.
here's my favourite part from him

throwaway is also enjoyable

i remember in an old sidewalk someone saying thier favourite section ever was his footage in the bonus montage for thats life.
Did he just retire? seems like he was only recently made pro....
-
He was already working full time as a graphic designer (I think) when they turned him pro. One of the nicest, down to Earth guys you could ever meet. He even turned his board release into a way to raise money for an orphanage he came across during his travels. Big ups to Mike! The sincere, good people need to be celebrated in skateboarding.

so sick ^

that's awesome. i heard on here he was a jeweller.
the board i got has skyscrapers and a sky blue background.
-
great skater and person, wish he had put out more footage.
i think he's a web dude for Sole Tech, but i could be wrong.
-
I had his board with the baby chick.
I had that same board.
Seems like a real stand up dude from what I've heard, and his footage was always awesome.
Good tricks, good style, good music
-
I wish I could skate that wood, so flat.
I would've bought a ton of his boards.
Such a good down to earth creative guy, sucks about his knee, hopefully he can still skate when he wants to.
-
remember that retirement party vid? gonna go home and watch that sheeeit later. i think i remember it being in the foundation box set
-
he does work for sole tech in the web sector, he does still shred, he is still rad, and yes, the biggest no-complys ever. awesome guy who got injured and the exact wrong time and never got to shine as bright as he could have. rusczyk is good people.

I don't think anyone could say it any better.
-
MRusczyk is steadily ripping on his board and also in the web-world.... His design skills are steadily on the rise... Very creative and bringing lots of new ideas to the sole-tech web army. Here is his latest project that is in the works... http://www.ofad.org
Be sure to periodically check back from time to time, Mike and the oFad Crew are on the rise!

I always enjoyed watching new parts from this dude.
-
One of my favorites ever. It was always amazing in the few times I'd see him around town, even when he yelled "skater faggots" while passing in his car, which was awesome. He had some mini-ramp footage recently on a local blog deal which I will try to find when I have the time.
-

Yeah he called me and some buddies "skater fags" out of a car once, it was radical. One time I stood behind him in line at safeway and didn't talk to him because I was nervous. Rusczyk is pretty incredible, Rocking a pop shove it over that mailbox that he did in art bars is seriously unfathomable.
-
that high speed just-barely-skreeched-out-the-landing 360 flip in the 3rd and army line in art bars left a lasting impression on my young mind
-
In thats life that 9 stair hubba he ollies over is in my home town! Still trips me out!
are you trying to make a rational post?
-
Someone should post the retirement party dvd, I never got to see it. Gordon, I'm looking at you.
-

I was shipping manager for skateboard.com when that was going down. They were paintings by him and his friends. I kept one for the wall.

Any chance you have/know where the photos are of them?
I remember them creating a little website to showcase them

For some reason I was always a fan of his flatground fakie pivots and especially his scraping half cabs. So sick.

I could make an attempt to retrieve them but, honestly, it may be too much digging involved for it to be worth anyone's time. I would be stoked to see the pics again too.
-
Yeah, mike is the best....I heard he got a full time job at eS.....

his introducing part in a 411 foundation industry section was amazing..
-
i hope this dude will still come out with some footage in any vid. retired my ass you dont need to be pro to get tricks in a video.
-
i always liked the dude. he rips. back when he was on bluetown skateboards in chicago i saw him do a few demos around and he was super nice. always supported his skating after that. stoked he had a good run and did different shit.
-
his nollies and switch ollies over shit look so good.
-
if anyone can explain how to get a vhs on the computer i'll put up an old part from a local video. it's a good one.
-

yeah I was thinking a Rusczyk megamix with that Sloppy Seconds part, some Horseshoes and Handgrenades footage, and all of that other stuff local stuff would be amazing.
-
I'll appreciate. dude's the coolest
-
I have his first board in a corner skated to the point that amatuer is gone. I fucking heart his art bars and tl parts, but I need ca since it's his "last". I didn't read this thread and it's at 2 pages so anyone who typed shit can fuck off. The last good Foundation am to pro IMO.
-
i had a ruscyk deck from when i used to work at yeto. i eventually had to ride it. then he retired. i was bummed.
-
Slap loves nobodies, this dude doesn't have one memorable video part, or trick in a magazine. he was mediocre at best.

No comply flip up a 6 is fucking insane
so many of his tricks stand out because of how he does them.
I still love the noseslide 270 shove out on the picnic table filmed from below in artbars
so good..
-
im the only person i know who thinks his skating was cool, the backside ollie he did on the barriers at farmers market ledge spot was absolutely insane. same with his noseslide transfer on a barrier.

Rusczyk is one of those guys who really got me hyped on skating. He always skated to great songs and had a really unique style and trick selection. I was pretty much over Foundation after Rusczyk and Fowler left. What is it they say on art bars? Mikey the funky Mike! What!

haha yeah I think that was the point. It seemed like he always made a conscious choice not to have an "ender"......The way his part ends in art bars was super cool, a few random tricks dispersed and then it ends with some line at 3rd and army

him being pro wasn't really serious, he had that retirement video sometime after he turned pro. he's got a unique style, and his parts are enjoyable. quit hatin'

Hi hater, he got you.
-
Bump!
Mike is the epitome of skateboarding. One of the most artistic people I have ever encountered in my life, on and off the board. Sounds like he's still crushing it. LARGEups...
-
I went and bought cataclysmic a while back just so I could have his last part.

i was going to the es park pretty much all of December and he would be there every night fully ripping!! all the classic moves! cant get enough and i wish he was still in the mix more
-
I've always loved this dude and thought he was way too underrated. Somebody give him a medal.

Killed my thread, bumping this one. Mike rules. Only 3 Foundation boards I've ever had. Feel like this guy was ahead of his time. Was bummed that he retired that fast.

Kinda surprised I never replied to this thread. I loved Mike's skating AND he was the nicest guy ever. I think I worked on a couple of tum yeto projects that he was in and between that and my years at 411 I never met him, but when I was transitioning careers in like 2008 he came into the Trader Joe's I worked out while I went back to school (it was down the street from Mark Waters house RIP where Mike was living at the time) and he was so shocked I recognized him and was so damn nice. Great dude. Wonder if he still skates?

If I recall correctly he was on Duffs at one point, not sure of other shoe sponsors
-
Ive said it numerous times on my previous account, but it’s worth repeating that Mike’s Art Bars part is my favorite part of all time, and a huge influence on my skating.
What barely ever gets mentioned is just how much of a park killer he was. Between the Good Times are Killing Me, and the bonus footage in the Art Bars dvd he absolutely crushed parks in that era. I wish I got to witness his skating in person during his peak years.
Maybe not the most technical by today’s standards, but Mike Rusczyk was sheer quality.

Feel like he was skating DC Lynx in some of Art Bars. I recall a line at Pier 7 in the Lynx. Twas a pretty sick combo for sure.

He’s wearing Lynx throughout his Art Bars part, but also a few Emerica sprinkled in, including the first clip.

True. That video was like an MJ2 commercial. Lots of great MJ2 footage in there.
-
I love when he does that boosted backside flip on that bank in his art bars part and you can hear his buddy scream "Yeah!!!"
-

For sure Duffs, as has already been said.

First part in this rare video by Jeff Henderson
https://youtu.be/WQojEyim8Jg?si=QDtp83qHhn26a0uG
-
Did he run a website called popills.com? It’s defunct now, but the memory rings true.
An old Transworld spelled his name “Russick”’once upon a time.
I love Mike’s varial flips and no comply’s especially. No comply was the easiest trick to come to me as a youngin and I taught them to a friend once too. He had an incredible one shot by Gaberman, I believe, in a Skateboarder spread. I remember him saying they were pretty out of style and he wanted one good one as a sort of last hurrah. A couple years later he had dipped and suddenly that trick was annoyingly everywhere and I feel like Mike never got his due for carrying it so well for so long. Eh.
Thrasher’s website used to do a “enter here for a free board” and I won Mike’s Amateur Retirement board + the Retirement Party video that way. Sold both on eBay ages ago, but I was mighty stoked at the time.

I loved that site back in the day and if ruscyzk ran it that would make it even more cool. Had no idea. I thought it was just some Midwest kids making edits idek
