i dont think you have to be "gnarly" to do this, i like it better sometimes..........corey duffel
-
The old Heath. He has said in interviews that switch skating sucks to watch. But then he goes switchflip boardsliding giant handrails which is pretty entertaining to me.
-
switch skating is skaters skating. half of watching videos for me is trying to keep track of switch.
-
How about people who skate too much switch?
Matt Bennett

koston... almost all of his best stuff was switch, except for his backside noseblunt work in the latter part of the 90s.
richie jackson doesnt really skate switch but he did a switch 3 flip so he must be decent at it. acutally gonz doesnt really skate switch that much either on real to reel now that i think about it... and he was like one of the pioneers of switch in some ways! but same with him he did sw 3 flip on krooked kronicles and he must have been llike 38 years old at least which is ridiculous

dill has had alooooot of switch both in his old and newer parts. His ender in mindfield was off a switch front 180. A ton of his old photos and ads were off huge switch tricks down shit too.
-
reese

Nick McLouth
i find it a bit weird you don't see nick skate much switch since he has so much good shit in regular, like flipwise (hardflips, late shuv variations). and i guess that's just fine.
-

haha a switch 180 isnt what i call difficult switch. i mean, you are going to regular. thats the simplest way TO skate switch. a straight ollie would have made that trick more difficult if you think about it you wouldnt have the momentum

no, in his first love part he switch flipped that set with the flat and then like two stairs that's been getting the treatment lately. and he did two lines that had switch fs flips downs stairs in them.

yeah, what he does switch is fucking insane, too. like, switch crooks, switch back 50s on hubbas and rails like nothing.

confirmed!
-
the only thing i can remember jamie thomas doing switch is a 5-0 180 in a line in ride the sky. As far as I'm concerned though when you're that gnarly why would you need to skate switch.

oh and his switch 180 5050 at clipper in a line that includes switch front big and switch front 360
-
alex olson
i dont really thinki its a bad thing though. as long as youre not trying to be all tech and shit, then its fucking stupid not to skate switch

Matt Bennett

i think sammy baptista wins that one.
-
I prefer dudes who skate little or no switch. I'd rather work on my regular/fakie tricks than spend hours trying to flip my board with the wrong foot. I'm not that motivated or talented though.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Justin Eldridge for this. I can't remember a single regular trick in his "Yeah Right!" part. Maybe a BS shove nosegrind down Sylmar if that was the same video.

lutzka not like anyone watches his parts or cares

david gravette in and now not one switch trick

Slash RTS part. Cant remember a single switch trick

Yeah and pretty much every bowl/tranny skater

ohhh i dont know about that man... rune glifberg, bob burnquist, tony hawk, lincoln ueda, lot of them skate switch really well... and switch on tranny is fucking insane its like skating handrails switch. you actually have to be really good at switch to skate tranny because you go to fakie on a lot of tricks (especially mini ramp).
-

i'm pretty sure skating handrails switch would be a lot easier than skating a full sized vert ramp switch especially with all of the flip tricks, grinds back to switch, and airs they do
-

ya it never bothered me if a guy didn't skate switch in his part. as long as he was pushin it and makin it look good i was always pumped.
-
david gravette in and now not one switch trick
unless you count the switch 50 50 after the body varial for his ender, haha
-
I can't believe no one mentioned joey brezinski he is super tech but almost every thing he does is regular or fakie hardly any switch it drives me crazy
-
omar
wieger only a few 180's and such, he can pull it of tough
-
I can't believe no one mentioned joey brezinski he is super tech but almost every thing he does is regular or fakie hardly any switch it drives me crazy
whoa i never actually noticed that!!! his shit is always insane but always stokes me so much... probably because its always regular and fakie and that is all i can skate. so in order for him to stoke you on regular tricks it has to be that much more difficult.
but actually that guy you can kind of tell he is still decent at switch because he does shit like nosegrind pop outs and stuff he probably just doesnt have all the flips and grinds like someone like pj for example who just has everything both ways and skates regular not goofy
-

Yeah, he did a swithc 5-0 180 in a line in Misled Youth, also, probably the best I've seen (balanced, and popped out), I want to say at Bricktown with like a front feeble on the rail or something. He also does a switch line, switch crook a bench and then switch boardslide a rail. OH! and switch lipslide the venice hubba!
I can't think of any Markovich tricks ever being switch, but I could imagine some very 90's switch frontside flips in lines going down.
I don't know, it's never really bugged me, I don't even notice when there's a complete absence of switch skating in a part. If anything, it actually pisses me off when kids on youtube leave comments on video parts like "yea he alrite but needz 2 sk8 swich moar" like skateboarding comes with a fuckin' syllabus
Sure is fun to nerd out over, though!
-
switch 5-0 180 is not really a "switch trick" though because you are landing regular; the point im trying to make is it would be easier to do that than just switch 5-0 pop out middle... although they are both really fucking easy so i suppose it just has to do with what trick you want to do next.

jamie thomas has done more switch than that. switch 180 rincoln 4 (doesn't really count as switch though), switch tres in multiple lines, switch crook that san jose ledge, some others too.
-
huf in the dvs video
-
MATT MUMFORD
he does a switch flip in his globe opnion part down a double set
ive seen sheckler do switch flip in his plan b and our life parts.
-
mumford also did a real nice switch flip down a set in Misled Youth, like one of his first couple tricks in that part
-
yeah but i think those are his ONLY switch tricks is the switch flip
switch grinds are kind of under rated
well no they arent
they are just hardly ever done
-
switch 180in stuff doesnt count as switching skating really, on a lot of gaps its easier to switch 180 them some time

CAN YOU THINK OF ANYONE EVER DOING A SWITCH FS 5-0 DOWN A HANDRAIL?
danny montoya nollie half cab 5-0 a handrail as a ender... so fucking sick.
-
Jon Goeman? The only trick I saw him do switch was an ollie down a grass gap in an old birdhouse commercial. He's sick though.

That's really gnarly if you've been to that spot just outside of Barcelona, he also switch ollies a pretty big bump to bar in his slave part.

What about skaters that skate ambidextrously, there are a few that I can think of.
Zared Basset
Pete Eldridge
Guy Mariano
DANNY GARCIA
Eli Reed
Jerry Hsu
Chad Tim Tim (Incredibly good at skating switch btw)
RONNIE CREAGER
-
danny garcia never skates regular he is terrible. his nollieflip noseslide on hubba, as sick as it was, it was so bicycle. whatever hes way better than i'll ever be but still low end for a pro id say theres way sicker guys who skate both ways amazing. pj ladd for sure comes to mind, eldridge is nuts, mariano is sick, ave is pretty sick at switch and reg, alex carolino i think of a lot too
-

What I was getting at was that these guys skate both ways equally as good and are consistent in style both ways. Watch his inhabitants part its hard to tell which way he skates if you didn't already know he was goofy. And I dont really agree that he's a low end pro, your judging him on something he did almost 10 years ago. Same thing could just as easily be said about Pj, around the time Danny did the nollie flip noseslide Pj still had that turtle boy style and was skating boxes in his basement.
I think its something thats cant be gained through practice but is more natural. Everyone has that friend that has the switch tricks that look just as good as their regular or better. A good example would be Ali Boulalas switch heels or Johny Laytons switch tres, tricks you honestly wouldn't believe were switch at first glance.

Oh dude, I bought that video in like 2006; my dvd copy has gone to shit since then, though. Such a good fucking video, especially considering it was related to Smellement (yeah, I said it). It just always stood out to me that the only regular trick he did was the 5-0 on that real big hubba.
