my dad was unloading some stuff out of his car when some douche walked up and stole his laptop while his back was turned. my dads been super depressed about it. he does all this volunteer work around the globe(africa, south america, asia, etc) in his free time and he had mad pictures from his travels and all the people he came across stored on it....with no back up. its like someone took all my pops awesome memories away for the last few years.

they should've been kicked out of college forever and be made to land a job in some shitty field to work the rest of their lives as a janitor, or a prep cook.

whoever took my pops laptop is local but the sad part is, if they turned on the computer and saw all the pictures of my dad building homes and schools in 3rd world countries, you'd figured they might feel guilty about it and try to return it but no. they probably sold what was priceless to my pops for $500 or less. people disappoint me all to too often.

^That's fucking ridiculous, one of my friends external hard drives got stolen from him by some asshole that was helping a foreign exchange student move out of his house. The dude denied it up until the dead line they gave him til they would call the police on his ass and he eventually got it back. Had all his videos he made and tons of pictures on it from all the trips he took and shit. People are fucking scum sometimes.

qft. There was a chic-fil-a on the UofM campus, the ONLY chic-fil-a in Minnesota I believe, and they had the most fucked up hours. I'd try to get my sister to get me some and she'd always tell me they were closed, and it was maybe 1pm.

The fast food places on the east campus of my school are never open on weekends and the subway on west campus (where I dorm) closes whenever the hell they want. They don't check IDs either, nor are they involved in the prepaid food program (which you need to pay for if you dorm here).

I actually had a laptop over the summer, it crashed about 4 times, no joke. It crashed during the first week of school so I said fuck it and got a desktop. It's probably for the best, if I had a laptop in class I'd never get anything done.

On Requiem...I loved every damned thing about that movie except for Harry's arm situation (right at the end of the movie). I just thought it was kind've hokey... but having said that, the scene barely lasted one minute.
My favorite arch of the story was his game-show watching mom. Her parts were so surreal and intense. Great movie.

I was studying in Vienna. My online check in fucking sucked though. I couldn't do it for the longest time because both Swiss Air and United were screwing me over so my mom called from the States and got it figured out. Then I couldn't do a self check in at the airport so I had to have the ticket counter print my tickets. It was just a hassle. But at least the Swiss border control guy let me go through without a visa or fining me.

Additionally, like the rum mentioned... it mixes well with Whiskey, spiced (and other darker rums), brandy, and other non-cordial liquors really well. You could get away with Vodka or a clear sipping tequila, but rum, brandy and whiskey add a lot of flavor and body that you want of you're going for the traditional way of consuming it.

In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in the eggnog, butter, and egg. Mix until dry ingredients are evenly moist.
Pour 1/4 cup batter onto the hot griddle for each pancake. Cook pancakes until bubbly on top. Flip with a spatula, and continue cooking until lightly browned on bottom.

ive never had spam and im kinda interested in trying it. i saw a no reservations where anthony bourdain visited hawaii and went to high class places that served it.

everyone is turned off by the idea of luncheon meat but it actually quite delicious, much like vienna sausages if you've ever had those. my family immigrated here so we grew up poor and spam was the cheapest type of meat we could afford, so it was either that or nothing. plus it was popular in my country anyway because US soldiers had it in their rations while stationed there during the koream war. and just like everywhere else at that time, everybody wanted to be more like americans so anything the soldiers had was automatically awesome. even today, spam is a part of our diet and you'll find it in many of dishes both here in the US and in korea.

A sort've related word of warning to the dorm room chefs... don't try to put marinara sauce on your ramen noodles, cause the sauce slides right off.

maybe its a white thing, but i watched my friend make some ramen one time and it was the weirdest thing. he boiled the water, dropped the noodles in, then put in the bag of seasonings. when it was done, he strained all the broth, dumped the noodles into a bowl, then threw soy sauce on top of the noddles!
i'd never seen anyone eat ramen that way especially considering all the flavor is in the broth, very strange dude.

i almost never use the packet of broth that it comes with. here's what i do to eat cheap and make your ramen feel like an actual chinese food meal.
-cook noodles like you normally would.
-add your own vegetables to boiling water while noodles are cooking. i usually just go with some brocolli. but you can get a frozen bag of mixed greens for pretty cheap. you can cook/defrost the veggies in with the boiling water
----if you want the vegetables cooked with more crisp, use a frying pan. put soy sauce and a dash of olive oil or butter (so the soy sauce doesnt wind up sticking to the pan) and cook the veggies in there.
-once noodles are done cooking, drain the water. add soy sauce (and your choice of hot sauce if thats your thing). i recommend Soy Vey Teriyaki. its about 4 dollars a bottle, but itll last you a long time and worth the investment. stir soy sauce around and get all the noodles nice and coated.
-pour noodles into frying pan with veggies and cook them a little more. make sure to keep em moving, otherwise they'll start to stick to the pan.
-consume delicious meal
thats it! you can add chicken to this too if youd like of course. the whole thing shouldnt cost much. bag of veggies is around 2 dollars (which youll wind up using 3-4 times), and the soy sauce is around 4 dollars, but youll be using that for a while. and of course the ramen is like 33 cents a bag or something.

...I brought up the marinara sauce because I had a friend back in dorm life that tried to make spaghetti with the stuff. Since ramen is fried, the sauce did it's own version of beading up and sliding off. So amazingly gross!
I usually like the powder packs... they never taste like the animal they're supposed to portray, but they're good. I either eat it as a noodle soup or pour out 1/2 the broth and eat it like that.

I went to this place last Saturday with my lady. We had a pepperoni pizza. The pizza there is super greasy. It;s so good. The taps are clean , too. The Bud Draft was particularly crisp and refreshing. The dive bar by our house has the worst draft beer. It's flat and they don't clean their keg system. The best draft beer is at the Flea Market. It is truly a magical elixir. Just one 16 oz. cup will give you a nice buzz. I Like to wander around and eat flavored pistachios and drink the delicious drafts.

There's a place in DC with the most wicked falafels ever... Amsterdam Falafel Shop in Adam's Morgan. It's one of the few places I can happily gorge without having any meat snacks.
I like the Pharmacy bar nearby afterwards, too. It's hipsterish, but every time I go there I wind up bullshitting with scores of nice people.

i didn't eat mustard up until a couple of years ago. i couldn't get past the color or the taste of it growing up and wouldn't eat anything that had the slightest trace of it.
then like 2 years ago i order a hot pastrami on a hero and told the guy no mustard but he put it on anyway and i didn't notice until i got home. i wasn't about to throw out a perfectly good sandwich and wasn't about to scrape it off when the cheese was all melted on so i ate it and OMG that shit was banging! i can't believe i was missing out for so long.
spicy mustard is the truth! yellow mustard not so much, that stuff is really terrible in comparison.

For most of my life, mayo was the most disgusting thing to me... the smell could make me sick if I was around it long enough... and I dislike very few foods.
I was put on some meds for a couple of years that fucked with me like crazy... the pills caused me to gain a lot of weight and all of a sudden I started craving mayo like a fiend. I got off the meds, lost the weight, and lost the "need" for mayo, but I do enjoy it now... but not like when I was on those pills and shit.

I grilled up a nice Rib eye, while the rib eye was grilling, I simmered a balsamic reduction (brown sugar, garlic, balsamic vinegar) with some sliced up grilled red peppers, and once the meat was done grilling, poured it over the meat and put some shoestring deep fried potatoes to top that shit off.

I grilled up a nice Rib eye, while the rib eye was grilling, I simmered a balsamic reduction (brown sugar, garlic, balsamic vinegar) with some sliced up grilled red peppers, and once the meat was done grilling, poured it over the meat and put some shoestring deep fried potatoes to top that shit off.
GODDAMMIT IT WAS GOOD.
I'm so down for the balsamic reduction. You can also do it with the meat in the pan at the same time...especially if you marinate it beforehand...then you'll get that crust on the outside of the meat. Sear that fucker in a cast iron pan like 5 minutes per side and you are winning.
my other jam for the balsamic reduction: fill a cookie sheet (will walls, obviously) with halved cherry tomatoes, minced garlic, red onion and herbs (rosemary, oregano, basil, whatever), soak it liberally with balsamic and a little olive oil, throw it in the oven for about 45 minutes at 400 hot.
Cook pasta while you're waiting. Then combine the two.

f ever there was a story that illustrated the lengths a male will go to have sex, it is this. Male Muscovy ducks have a penis up to 40 centimetres long – almost half the length of their body – but that's just one of the twists and turns in the story of how female and male ducks try to outsmart each other.
A female Muscovy duck chooses a mate based on her assessment of his courtship and plumage. But rejected males don't give up easily, and can force copulation on unwilling females. The long, flexible penis helps them do so.
So females have evolved to wrest back control of copulation, says Patricia Brennan at Yale University. "The males and females become locked in this arms race, each trying to dominate the outcome. It's fascinating to find such a clear and obvious example of sexual conflict."
Do the twist
The male duck's penis is spiral-shaped: like a corkscrew, it twists in a counter-clockwise direction so that sperm will target the oviduct on the female's left-hand side. In almost all birds only the left ovary is functional, but in a 2007 study, Brennan and colleagues noticed that in ducks the female's vagina twists in the opposite direction.
To see whether these clockwise twists and turns would make copulation more difficult for the male, the group managed to get male ducks to unfurl their penises into glass tubes shaped like a female's vagina. The males found it difficult to evert their penises down the length of the tube – which is what the team reckons happens in the vagina.
Brennan thinks that, while the males are evolving long and flexible penises to help them force copulations, the females are using their complex vaginal anatomy to take back control over which sperm fertilises their eggs. When a female wants to mate with her chosen partner, she can make the process easier by relaxing the muscles around the vagina entrance.
Brennan's team also timed the male's penis eversion, which took a mere one-third of a second – around 60 times faster than was previously thought (see video above). "This definitely gives the males a mechanism by which they can copulate," says Brennan, who was taken aback by the speed. "To be totally honest, I'm still in shock," she says.
Locke Rowe, an evolutionary ecologist at the University of Toronto, Canada, says the findings show a good example of antagonistic genital anatomy in animals. "This is a good piece of evidence that conflict, rather than confluence, is shaping evolution," he says.
