i take the shields off cause it makes em loud
and with the shields on, if dirt gets inside em its stuck forever,
when the shields are off dirt goes in, dirt comes out

Not gonna lie, that's why I started doing it.  Now if i don't, my board sounds waterlogged to me.

I've popped the shields off of bearings before on a few occasions and there was a noticeable decrease in how long they lasted compared to when I would keep the shields on. I dunno, maybe I just ride on dirtier grounds, but I noticed that I had to clean em a lot more often or they would just completely shit out on me altogether when compared to when I would keep the shields on. But yeah, it makes your bearings louder, so I GUESS that's a plus...

One of the the points of not using the shield is pretty much to avoid having the shield bend and getting caught in the bearing its self causing a blow out of the bearing no one likes changing bearings whether you get em for free or not...

Shields don't cause blowouts, nor is there any way for your shield to get caught in your bearings unless you made it out of wood and it splinters.

If you want to roll without shields, go for it, but it doesn't improve shit.

Unrelated note: if you put your front two truck bolts in upside down you'll ollie higher. Also, cutting random squares out of your board with a jigsaw will make it tons lighter.

ollie bolts FTW!

the shields are designed to help prevent dirt from getting into your bearings, so why take them off and make it easier for dirt to get into your bearings?

i take them off when i'm cleaning my bearings, and only leave them off when they're totally jacked and i can't get them back on.

Taking your shields off is like putting annoyingly loud exhaust on your stupid Honda, or baseball cards in your BMX spokes, "I'm making more noise, I must be going faster!"

I like driving without a windshield.

One time I was with my friends on a roadtrip to the Mammoth Lake skatepark. We were driving down the highway there and a car passes us just freaking flooring it. The car had no windshield and the dude driving was wearing snowboard goggles.

I bought a set of Labyrinths with some bones bushings. Free shipping too. Stoked.

Once again the small skate shop gets fucked over for sales.  Bummer. Who puts that shit on there? For less then shops pay we can buy. It's shameful.
Shops are doomed. I wonder if the same people who bitch abou the Berrics online shop but cheap bearings online and tee shirts at discount stores and shoes at outlets. I hope not.

I don't really Blame the skater for saving a few bucks but the people offering the deals and who sold them the product for so cheap. Man having a shop is hard.

YUP, and they're the same people who all say "PM PLEASE" to a link for a video that they all are psyched on, but don't want to buy, to either support the local shop, OR the company/person that out it out....(see "Beauty and the Beast 2" thread)

I'm putting my palm to my face because of some of the dumb shit people do with bearings.

They put a longass guide in your Bones bearings about how to care for them - not because they want to fuck you over - but because bearings are precision instruments that require proper care to function at their best.

This is a no-brainer: popping the shields off is dumb if you're not getting bearings for free. It will ruin your bearings faster.

I just clean my bearings when they get slow. It doesn't happen very often.
