They're also making a new one for the Wii. Which is unfortunate, because I don't have one.

Fully agreed! I also loved NBA Hangtime.
One of my SNES personal favorites was always Donkey Kong Country. I downloaded an emulator and a rom to play it again a few months ago. I need to make another attempt at getting my SNES to work. Once nothing would come up at all on the TV, and once it was just a black screen. Now I have a "new" TV and wonder if it will help any. Only one way to find out I suppose. I don't have all my original games, but I have most of them. I'm dying to play NBA Jam again now.

Damn this game used to be the shit.. the little hot spot 9 point shots inside the 3 point line were always dope
and the little token power up that let you do a frontflip dunk from the other side of the court hahaha
best game hands down was killer instinct! Ultra Combos and Combo Breakers.. cant beat that
Street Fighter has always been the shit

street fighter 2 turbo (with every character on 8star difficulty. we played it a lot)
mega man x
metal marines
TNMT turtles in time
mario paint (cant really "beat" this game... i composed several musical scores though. we logged so many hours on this game we broke the mouse. my brother was a huge graphics nerd and he was really into it)
wolf 3d
metal combat - falcons revenge
breath of fire 2
lufia 2
ff3
NHL stanley cup
DK country
zelda
super mario world
bubsy
spider man/venom - maximum carnage (one of the most difficult games i have ever beateN)
NBA JAM
Shadowrun (actually didnt beat that til like 02)
sim ant
sim city
earthworm jim
star fox
stunt race fx
uniracers
mario kart
super bombermanm

fuck i had this reall sick list going i was looking off a list from wikipedia trying to remember all the titles.. im pretty sure i got most of em, the main one i missed was Super Mario RPG. that has to be one of my favorite games just because its real easy. i hate hard games haha. my brother is all about devil may cry, i cant even get into it cause its a lot of dying and re-trying. i just like playing through an entire game with no difficult obstacles haha. thats why i liked those lucasarts games where you couldnt die you would just get stuck so you just look at a walkthrough to progress the story. what can i say, i have gotten really lame at video games.
-
has anyone ever played metal marines

these are definitely my favorite snes games.
-
^in that version of sf 2 chun li has a major advantage over everyone else because they hadnt established priorities on throwing yet...
-
final fantasy 2 and 3....super mario rpg.... zombies ate my neighbors....super mario world....breath of fire 1 and 2..... ahhhh the best system ever!
-
zombies ate my neighbors
did you know that is a lucasarts production in some way...
also there was a similar game called "super ghouls and ghosts"... that game was so fucking hard. you had to make it real far without dying cause your armor would build up type thing
anyone remember lost vikings?

rawb i just saw you mentioned the lufia games in there....i played through the first lufia just fine... i thought lufia two was hard as fuck though! i pride(d) my self on being pretty decent at rpg games.. especially all the final fantasy and breath of fire ones. i don't know what it was about lufia two but i gave up so fast. in conjunction with the dificulty i think it was also because you couldn't walk through the map freely, but rather like input where you were going on a drawn out map, if i remember right.

yeah the first one is actually a tougher game battle-wise because im pretty sure that is the one where say you have 3 guys vs 2 blobs, and you send all three of your guys to attack the same blob, and in most rpgs, say the first guy kilsl the blob, the other 2 guys will automatically attack a new target... in this one they miss if you didnt allocate the hp properly... i forget if that was that game or breath of fire 1

How many times did I win the Title with Ric Flair and Macho Man, I lost count.
I was 4 when this came out, but me and my dad would play the shit out of it:

wow! i forgot about that shit. i remember that happens in final fantasy 1 (regular nintendo). what a nightmare though. now i'm super curious if that happened in breath of fire 1 as well. speaking of that series, how dope was breath of fire 2? such a good storyline, i recently got it for game boy advance, and played through it obsessively.

yeah i actually have a version of breath of fire 2 for gameboy advance i believe... my favorite was chrono trigger though just because i liked the way the characters look (they are done by the same man who draws dragonball) breath of fire 2 is a good game for sure though but it didnt have the same kind of depth chrono trigger and ff3 had.
ff3 was really good because there was a large optional portion of the game after the world blows up.... like ff7 as well so there was a ton of replay value
same with chrono trigger except the sweet thing was what you did in the past affected the future etc. i really liked that aspect of the game and there was just so much shit to uncover just like ff3.
i liked earthbound because it has a very unique look to it, but it sucks (i shouldnt say it sucks its one of the best games ever) compared to the other games because its so linear. theres not a whole lot extra you can do in that game really. the story was really cool too and i liked how it took place in present day instead of some mideival shit
i am actually playing "MOTHER" on dreamcast right now (NES emulator) i got an english translation of it... its sick its basicalyl just like earthbound for SNES but wayyyy fucking harder. the graphics are almost identical. the battles are really tough - its really easy to wander into a area with insanely hard guys that you cant beat. same with dragon warrior 1 (dragon quest is new english name for that series) that game puts me to sleep i played the entire thing on the turbo mode and it still took forever the text scrolls soooo slowwwww
-
I remember beating this game with a friend in one sitting.

That game was so fun. I always would choose Bret Hart or Mr Perfect and get my wins by beating the shit out of dudes on the outside and getting the countout.
I actually play in a video game cover band. We have a couple live recordings up here.

The Games? Flea Markets, but mostly they are ones we got growing up.
-
just downloaded an emulator (VirtualNES) today to entertain myself, but i can only get about half of the roms that i download to open.
what am i doing wrong?
anyone have some links to some good working roms?
-
ok virtualNES im not sure about that emulator, the best one for windows are NESTICLE for NES... it played every rom i ever d/l;d
also if you want good roms use www.vimm.net
for SNES i say go with ZSNES if you are on PC
if you are on mac i dont know what to tell you, try a different emulator. vimm'/s site should have every single release of every emulator worth downloading.

there is a guy in town selling final fantasy 3 for 80$ and chrono trigger for $96. that is more than they cost when they came out (sort of... inflation has came up 2-3% since then for sure but still)

That's a little bananas, even for 2010. I just got FF3 for $35. I also got 6 games off this lady on craigslist that were filled with roaches. Had to throw everything into a ziplock bag and suffocate the things while I waited for the 3.8 mm bit to come in the mail so I could clean them out. I want an Earthbound, but that shit is not worth $200. Even the reproductions are upwards of $80 and those are usually some sort of hacked Super Famicom board. I am thinking of buying a Cotton import. I'll have to expand the bay so the SF cartridge fits though. I could learn Japanese. How hard can it be?
-
Filled with roaches? Nasty...
-
anyone remember lost vikings?
Lost vikings is free to download on battle.net now (as is rock n roll racing and blackthorne)
-
California Games 2 all day!
Anyone know of a site to get any good home brew cartridges for a decent price? (NES or SNES)
-
www.shopflashback.com (http://www.shopflashback.com)
$60 reproduction games. Pretty good deal. English version of Clock Tower. They'll make any game of your choice for $75. That's kinda steep, but considering people are charging $200+ for some shit...
-
I have never heard of this...seems like a waste of money.
-
Well, you could download the roms for free and play them on Higan. The downside is no emulator is going to make the game look or sound as good as the console will. Even certain models of the console won't look as good as others. You can mod the snes mini to output raw RGB to a good 20 inch BVM or PVM (15khz hsync) and it will look like something you dreamed about as a child. Those broadcast monitors used to be $2k or more but now that the only people that use them are retro game nerds, you can get them for around $350 on a bad day. But, like I said, you can still play it on an emulator for free. Lots of good stuff is on the Wii virtual console for $10 too.
Or if you want a middle of the road sort of thing, you can get a flash cartridge that will store all of the games in one. The problem with those is you have to wait until they get enough preorders that they actually produce them, and they aren't cheap. The best one right now is currently in stock though, so if you're interested:

No one mentioned Super Metroid yet, just beat it again (got it though my Wii U). Such an amazing game!!
-
I was able to perform a soft mod on my original Wii & port all 700+ SNES games through a flash drive using the accompanying homebrew emulator (errr can't remember if its SNES9X).
Easily the best thing you can do with the Wii & the games play great with the Gamecube controllers.

On a side note: SNES games always had awesome soundtracks.
-
I just began my third attempt to play through FF3 yesterday. I have never been able to keep focused to keep playing past the opening hour or two, but I feel like I'm obligated because I own the physical copy and I've beat VII 3 times so I can't weigh in on the VI vs. VII debate.
-
This was mine and my friends collection before I left Vancouver. Bottom right was the SNES collection. We beat a bunch of games including Super Ghouls n' Ghosts(which I saw mentioned earlier), Wild Guns, Super Punch Out. Game of choice was always NHL 94 with 4 player adapter so you could almost have a full team. The hits in that game are endless fun. Wherever I move I always buy a NES or SNES with a couple of gems.

Now that the Wii is essentially a large-scale cliche paperweight, SLAP heads should start looking into soft-modding their existing consoles . . .
I haven't been on Homebrew in quite some time Stoop Kid, did they make an all-encompassing emulator channel or do you still have to download individual channels for your desired console?
And as for the SNES, remember the peripherals?
