Title: Barcelona
Post by: jarlett scohansson on September 21, 2010, 09:09:41 AM
What is the best hostel to stay out in regards to sick spots?  I don't care if it's the big spots you see in the vids or anything, I like to skate everything.

I really wish I had the name of this Hostel I stayed at. It was in the Ramblas. A 10 min skate or less, from MACBA. And a 2 min skate from this manny pad:

You can use this site to help you a bit:

And definitely check out Rufus Skateshop, most legit shop in the area, and 2 minutes from MACBA.

If you?re going with a few homies i would recommend to rent an appartment, its pretty cheap and much better than a sketchy hostel. We lived 10 minutes from macba, parallel, bench avenue, universitat which was perfect, so fun to skate those spots at night.

I'm not sure about hostels. Here's a great site with a lot of spots though:

And I don't know if this site is up to date, but maybe it'll help you find an appartment.

I am planning on going in January, are the spots a bust after 10pm? What about during the day? Where are the best places to skate where there will be other skaters? Also any input on tickets or going to jail for skating, is it likely or not for Americans?

Thanks For any input, all is welcome.
Title: Re: Barcelona
Post by: professional on November 06, 2010, 08:39:09 AM
first off, dont go skating after 10pm because there are groups of dudes who prey on white, american tourists and will rob you. even the people that seem most friendly will at least try and pick-pocket you. during the day you can skate anywhere in the city virtually bust free with the exception of uni and macba(you can skate there tues and sunday i think?).

you wont go to jail and you wont get a ticket but you will get your board taken away without question if you dont leave the spot immediately as the cop is rolling up. they just dont care so dont argue.

photocopy your passport and keep the photocopy on you. learn some basic spanish so that if you do not to talk to police you can at least tell them youre from america, you cant speak spanish, etc. etc.

and please, for the love of god, be courteous to the people around you and the city. the reason people from barcelona hate white tourists so much is from the dumbasses that travel there and disrespect the city. it goes without saying that if youre a cry baby bitch you can't be throwing your board around and screaming. it scares the locals who don't skate so they call the police because they have no idea what's going on.

What the fuck are you talking about?

SKATE AT THREE IN THE MORNING - BEERS - UNIVERSITAT - BOMB DOWN THE RAMBLAS - TAKE A LEFT -  CRUISE DOWN BY THE BEACH - FIND A BEACH PARTY - SWIM WHEN THE SUN COMES UP

yep sorry, that was a bit vague. I meant by yourself. Skating at night through the streets is the best feeling there...the sound of the brick streets is unforgettable and feels amazing when youre drunk.

I've been once in april and that was great in terms of temperatures etc. What other times are good to go?
I am considering going this winter sometime.
And I can confirm the risk of being robbed. A guy tried to take our cameras at paral-lel + some guys talked about robbing us at universitat but we managed to get away.

the hostel is Barcelona Mar, one of the 3 (i think) BE hostels look em up, cheap too if i remember correctly.

and skating by yourself at night is very doable, although you'll most likely meet someone who'll wanna skate with you. Just watch out for people getting too close to (touching) you, especially non-skaters. Watching your bag when you have a cam is always important. It's not as bad as a lot of people usually make it sound though.

If youre motivated youll learn spanish pretty fast, at least if you take some classes. Jobwise depends on how long youre planning on staying, and im not really familiar with the situation in spain. Im pretty sure youll need to apply for some some of work visa like you have to in most other contries

Why would you want to skate some shitty euro park when you're in Barcelona?

And for those wanting to get a job there - 20 % of Spain's population are unemployed, so I hardly think you'll be first in line as an impermanent visitor who doesn't speak the language.

Barca TR:

Sants- Benches are grinded to shit and it is in what seemed like a bad neighborhood. There was a pretty large group of skaters but the obstacles they had setup were crap and there really wasn't much to skate. Overall it seems like this place has seen better days and even though it seems like the cops don't bother you, it pretty much sucks at this time.

MACBA- usually always a small group of skaters at least. the ledges don't grind very well and the police sometimes drive through. Most of the spot has been changed and there really wasn't much to skate. Not horrible, but wasn't the best spot to skate in the world, at least not anymore.

Uni- The marble benches are amazing but it is very crowded but still OK. Only problem is the undercover police officers who took my board and gave me a US$1,100 ticket (which I really only have to pay if I want my board back) for skating the "architecture". Apparently this applies to Uni (especially) and MACBA and depending on the officer you can get in trouble.

Overall, I'm sure there are still some of the best places to skate in the world, but the most famous spots from the past are no longer as good as they used to be. The atmosphere at MACBA and by the Beach are great and you can still have a good time especially If you know someone here to show you around to the less known spots.

Title: Re: Barcelona
Post by: truthislie on April 21, 2011, 04:28:12 AM
MACBA is great for meeting up and playing skate/drinking after the session. But skating MACBA the whole day is pretty pointless if you are in barcelona.

Its easy to find all the other spots in the city besides macba, uni and sants, even if you dont have anyone who can show you. Just check the skhateyou page and you will find loads, explore a little bit on your own and you will see why everyone loves it. I just booked my flights for summer, can?t wait to go!

If you keep your eyes open for the cops and don?t be a disrespecting asshole you?re fine just like in any other city.

Please dont go to Barcelona to skate MACBA, uni or sants. There so much in the city, you can just skate around and discover shit youve nevere even seen before. And yo poopmonkey, you ever been to barca? Macba is so round that grinding that stuff is really no fun at all

Learning Catalan is as important as Spanish if you are ONLY going to Barcelona.  It's their first language, taught in all the schools, a year before they are taught English and 2 years before they are taught Spanish.

When I got off the metro by myself with all my luggage, I was supposed to meet at Paral-lel, and I just asked a bystander, "Donde esta el parque de patineta?" Which after a few confused faces being exchanged between the two of us, we started playing an impromptu game of charades and pictionary until she figured out I meant "skate park".   Turned out it was across the street and about 100 feet away.  I'd definitely recommend Catalan.

They said don't go out after 10 PM because you will just sleep in until 3 PM the next day.  That city does not sleep.  I didn't have any experiences that made me think it was dangerous to be outside, in fact I skated from Winkle's to MACBA on the first night at around 3 AM in my pajamas.  There were easily 100 people skating, drinking and just hanging out.  I could tell you a million stories about every day and night there, none of them were sketchy at all.  Use common sense like you would in any city environment, and you shouldn't have any trouble at all.  The city is so skateboard accessible it's stupid.  You'll stumble upon so many perfect spots if you just roam.  Go! Explore! Have fun!

yeah, Mollet del Valles, there is a pretty big skatepark in that town too, this banks are 1 min away from the Mollet-Santa Rosa train station. If you go there by train, DO NOT cross the train rails, they get mad at you and give you a 300 euros ticket.

I went on two trips and those rolling bumps were the only spot I could never get the location to. I always wanted to go.

And the only advice I could give to anyone going to Barcelona is do not stay in the city center the whole time - take the Metro way out, or even better take a train for an hour in any direction. You will be surprised at what you find.

Thanks guys! BarcelonaCEO what's the name of the college that the orange bumps are at?

Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona aka Autonomous University of Barcelona located where I live in Cerdanyola del Valles but outside downtown, I recommend you to take the "FGC" train in Barcelona and stop in "Universitat Autonoma". Right outside the station you'll be in the main campus plaza. Ask for the tennis courts or the "SAF gym" for the bumps. Across the university you will find perfect 8 stair handrails in the entrance of B and C buildings, a round grinded ledge, a marble manny pad and stupid circle flatbars in front of the humanities library ( they made dissapear a concrete wavy manny pad that was featured in a blueprint video). I'll post pics soon.

I stayed at this place (http://www.feetuphostels.com/hostels-barcelona/mellow-eco-hostel.html/) when I was out there a couple of years ago. It's a bit outside of the city, but is super chill and has rad views of the mountains. The trains out there stop earlyish, but I think there are still night busses that you can take back...so not the best place if you're looking to hit the bars or skate all night, but great if you want to skate all day and chill at night. They have a kitchen so you can make your own food to save $$, and a patio you can chill on till 11pm or so.

For skating: I had the raddest times just cruising around, finding spots. Sants sucks now, you can only really skate MACBA after 6-7pm (though it's still cool as a warm-up spot)...my favorite times were just cruising around, meeting some dude from a random country, and skating around together finding spots and shredding. All the skaters there are super friendly and awesome...the raddest culture. I saw people pickpocketed a couple of times on the subway, but if you know how to keep your shit together in a typical city, you're fine. Just don't be stupid and you're good. I ended up going out with my phone in a front pocket, some cash in my jeans' coin pocket (nobody's pickpocketing that shit), and a copy of my passport in a ziploc in my other front pocket. Back pockets are for maps and water bottles and other shit you can lose.

Barcelona is the RADDEST for skating. SF is the only city I've had more fun in.

OH! Also, if you're into tattoos, check out LTW (http://www.ltwtattoo.com/), in an alley off La Rambla. I got some work done by Javier Rodriguez while I was there, and it's so good. And all the dudes there were super cool.

Yeah, just lay low and be friendly to the cops, they'll be friendly to you. I've been there 5 times and I skated from 8 am to 10 pm, never had ANY problems with cops. Ever.

We always were with a pretty huge click and the main guy that organises the trips is a great skater and he lived a in Barcelona. He knows all the spots, knows the language, knows the places to eat etc...

The only problem we had was with some drunk pimp that was mad because we wouldn't fuck any whores from him... SERIOUSLY.
Shit was awesome though...

I'm going back with my girlfriend in August after a 3 year break from skating... Curious if everything is still where it was.

Hey bros. went to bcn last year in August with my lady. Stayed in gotic area near la rambla. Hit up macba on a Sunday morning and it was the shit. Ground was the shit, ledges were rounded, but who gives a fuck. Hit some banks on the way to the beach and chilled with some pints of Estrella. Scoped some strange sets of boobs and had a blast. Went to fondo the next day and boy, is that place harder to skate then I would have imagined. Skated some cuttyy spots, but never really made it to the other hot spots, as I was only there for 3days. Going back in August this year and I'm am fucking psyched!!!!!!!!!!

One question. Could someone point me to the best/uncluttered hill bombs. I saw a ton near fondo, but was pussed out/jet lag foggy.

How is fondo these days?

A guy i know said it's been made 'skateproof'.

That would seriously suck...

it's basically a skateplaza now. a sign states that its allowed to skate there, but it's prohibited to ride bmx or scooters there. there are handrails on both stairsets, a polejam, 2 flatrails. it's fun to skate,

The brick drop curb it's at Vallcarca, the top part of the city, the nearest metro station it's Penitents in the L3 Line (the green one).

Here's the google maps link to it: http://goo.gl/maps/EzsOs (http://goo.gl/maps/EzsOs)

Curb used to be super chunky but some locals angle ironed it recently.

Amazing hill bombing opportunities from that spot to the downtown!

I haven't skated that but I have skated another spot that required hopping a fence. We got kicked out but the result was the same as the US. They just told us to leave. Some caveats here that are important:

1. I was with a group of 90% spanish speakers so I am sure that made the situation better.
2. Some cops really hate skating in BCN. These were not those types, so I am not sure how other cops will react.

I say throw caution to the wind and go for it.

Just came back from barca. Itbwas awesome but the weather was not that great. I had a few days of rain and well there werent skati g that many people. MACBA was awesome of course but i must say it looks really blown out these days. I go there every few years and it was pretty blown. Edge were super rounded, tiles were hanging loose etc... Nevertheless, im not complaining, it was awesome. And its an epic spot.

The big four was now a big three. Got in a fight with some drugged out fucks while we were skating there. Some dude tried to jack our shit... S be careful back there.

The ledges at the harbor, if you walk down la rambla, were still in decent shape. No one was skating while i was there and i was there for more than 3 hours. Tourists were whining, but even the cops were cool about it and said that we could skate. Probably because they saw that we were with a really small group and that we were not fucking around...

Para lel was cool, but it was also packed with sketchy dudes... A  local explained that a lot of people were hustling because of the extremely bad economy...

Didnt go to fondo which sucks...

But we found and Amazing spot at santa suzanna, one hour away from barca...

Ill post pics tomorrow.

Places to eat if your vegeteraian: juicy jones, maoz and veggie garden. Amazing stuff.

Ill throw my latest-- second week of August.

Hit up SANTS area and skated that black bank roll-in thing. Super fun. Right on that road, there are these little curbs with a metal coating that fucking grind like glass. Hit SANTS for a minute but most of the benches had people on them waiting for transportation. Still Cool to see.

Took a day off, hit the beach with my wife, drank and Puffed.

Next day. Took a Taxi to Forum and had a blast skating that Black pyramid thing. Then hit the white ledges down the way. That wall/bank is steep as fuck but super fun. Went to those metal ledges down the next hill and they grinded like glass as well.

Went last August as well. Hit MACBA which was fun. Fondo was sick too. That bank on the way there from the station that Ricky has some tricks on in Static II is sick as hell.

Still want to go back again sometime.

Spot I was talking about, located in santa suzanna:

The banks seem steep but get more mellow if you walk a little.
Amazing, it's smooth concrete with a ruff texture. Definitely slides if you wax it well. And it grinds if put half a waxblock on there...

Bit hard to answer that one. Depends on where you are from and what you want...

Are you from Europe and can hop on a Ryanair flight? Then that one is quite cheap and you can catch a flight for less than 100 ?. Are you from the U.S. or anywhere else overseas it get's pretty expensive. Do you want to rent an apartment, go for a hostel or a hotel? You can even go camping over there if that's what you prefer. You can check airbnb to check some prices. Food... Dunno, depends where and what you wanna eat.

So it can range anywhere between some hundred ? and a couple of thousend ?.

Maybe you should give some more detail or do some investigation yourself. Checking prices for flights and accomodation isn't that hard...

Not going to lie, it will be hot. Average for august is about 80. The thing that's the worst is the humidity, about 75% every day (at times higher) so it's like a fucking sauna. But no doubt with the sea and tons of spots you'd still have an amazing time.

We rented an apartment for $30 a night. It was small, with no kitchen (just a fridge and microwave), but $30 a night was fucking insane, best location ever, right off of Las Ramblas! Beat any hostel /hotel for price and most of them for location. Book in advance cause all the good apartments book up super fast.

Coming with 2 other friends this may for 3 weeks and were looking to rent a room with 3 beds as close to MACBA as possible, just started looking on airbnb and found some places for like $50CAD (€32) a night nearby is that an average price for a 3 bedroom private room in the area or are these places going to be sketchy? I got some expensive camera gear that I really don't want to get jacked but were also trying to make this trip happen for as cheap as possible. I've never used and don't know much about airbnb or what parts of barcelona are good and bad, any advise or other good websites for renting a place would be mucho appreciated!

In barcelona you dont get jacked, you get your shit stolen in a split second without realising it on time. Dudes are artists. A friend had his camera gear stolen while he was drinking beer on a bench, he got a lil bit drunk and he didnt realise that his camera was stolen just beneath his feet. Another friend went in a net cafe and had his bag on his chair he stared at the screen and when he wanted something from his bag he turned back and his bag was missing. I witnessed an American tourist flashing his iPhone trying to figure out with gps where he was and out of nowhere a kid on a bike just grabbed the phone and got lost in the streets. I saw prostitutes kissing a drunk guy and stealing his wallet, while he was thinking he scored two chicks. You wont get jacked but try to keep an eye on your gear and be sober when you do so.

I'm from Barcelona!

In summer is quite easy to find a job because there's a huge demand on cofees, restaurants... but you will need to have your visa, NIE...

Where are you living now? it's quite more easy if you're from Europe.

Just got back from barcelona a couple weeks ago. Paral-lel is still there but they took all of the main manual pad/ledges except for the main one that people skate as a ledge. They've put a few more larger ledges in the back and a little manual pad, and it's got a bit of a skatepark vibe now. But it's still very fun.

WATCH OUT FOR THE LITTLE PROPELLER SEED PODS ON THE GROUND - THEY'RE EVERYWHERE AND WILL TAKE YOU OUT CONSTANTLY UNLESS YOU PAY ATTENTION.

I actually had my trip ruined by going with a friend whom I should have known not to travel with, so I'm hoping I get a re-do someday.

Thanks for the tip. I actually saw a little warning about that on one of the spot descriptions on a Google Skate Spot map. I'm going to be there in about a week and a half.

Just got back from my Barcelona trip, and it was amazing. I will say though, Budgie is right about the those propeller seed things on the ground, they're everywhere and will catch your board every time. The guys at FTC are very friendly and just moved down the street from the Universitat metro station. They'll point you in the right direction in terms of spots and other things to do in the city. As for food, La Flauta was definitely my favorite spot for food and tapas and the prices are very reasonable. If you wanna explore outside the city for a day, check out Santa Maria de Montserrat if you wanna get some of the best views up from the mountains. It's an hour train ride outside the city with a free cable car transfer up to the monastery.

As for the spots, there is so much to skate within such close proximities. You'll find spots everywhere. MACBA is really cool to check out but don't spend your whole day there as it gets packed and you'll be missing out on other places. I hope this helps for anyone planning on going there.

I’ve heard pick pockets are gnarly in Barcelona, anyone had any bad experiences? I’m not worried about my phone/money my pockets have buttons. More wondering about my backpack, if I set it down in eye sight at a spot will it be good or they that quick out there?

Had no issues at all with pick pocketing when I was there. It's like any big city, you just gotta be aware of your surroundings and not carry too much with you. Therefore, bringing a backpack around might be a little risky especially to spots like MACBA where it always crowded.

I've been living there since september and in my first week I had my phone stolen on a very crowded concert in Parallel, pure bad luck. Besides that, the only thing you have to care about is where do you put your backpack and stuff when you skate spot where there are a lot of people going through it like any other big city. And like tim said I recommend you to don't carry too much with you.
For example, most of the time I skate in Universitat and the locals are always nice, you can leave all your stuff with them while you skate without any problem.

I figured, everything Ive read online makes it sound like they will steal the shirt off your back before you even notice. I don't plan on bringing a ton with me, at least nothing valuable, maybe a book to read, sketch book, point and shoot film camera/rolls of film, water, wax etc. I hate skating with my phone in my pocket but I'll just suck it up this trip, need that to navigate. It would be nice to leave the hotel in the morning and not have to go back for things

I was always nervous about my stuff - too many people everywhere. We always had one person from the crew chilling, and they were on guard duty. I personally had 3 separate instances of a pick pocket trying to get me, but I was already on edge, so they failed. One guy was pretending to play soccer with an empty can, getting way too close while trying to get me to 'play along' - so I pretended to stumble and elbowed him in the ribs. My elbows are like ice picks. He fucked off after that.

I've spent a year in Bcn, and seen a lot through it. Even locals get robbed. I have countless stories of skaters got robbed their bags with cameras. Most of the time it happens in downtown, the very touristic spots. Avoid downtown and you'll be safe.

I got 3 robbing stories for you guys:

1- Some friend going to Bcn for the first time, they've rent a full apartment for their month there (pre Airbnb), just got off the plane, get the house's keys, everybody put their luggages in the rooms. And they are deciding to visiting the city at foot, and may have a drink.
They're are coming back to the house few hours later. luggages are gone, brand new video camera, camera, money all gone.
They couldn't prove it, but the house's owner was probably into that robbing, and played that game many time before them.

2- Some friends were skating that 3 blocks at Macba, filmer and photographer was shooting him, his friends was cheering him up to land that tricks, locals and tourists was around watching it.
One more try on the block, and he twisted his ankle on it, big bummer, it was his first week there, he will be off the rest of trip.
Then he sit to get some rest, and realized that he got his bag pack stolen while he was skating, with his VX1000 in it. And nobody seen anything.

3- That one happened to myself. I was waiting for a friend at Parallel spot, we were supposed to shoot a pic at a spot, and he was late. I was sitting on the bench who are straight front of the many pad, by myself. My huge Camera bag was between my legs with contact. I was on my iPod playing cards. Javier Sarmiento and Erik J Petterson was playing a poser game on that manual pad front of me. and at least 10 skaters was around.
Then, someone tap on my shoulder behind me, I'm turning my head to him. he started to speak Spanish to me, nicely answered that I don't speak it, then speaking English, and was insisting to speak with me. It was  no more than a 10sec conversation, when I turned back my head, my camera bag was gone. I've felt absolutely nothing at all.
Never seen anyone running with my heavy and big bag, nobody seen anything either.
The "shoulder taper" was running is ass off, and was already too far to get him.
My friend came at this right moment, and we've tried to found them, and it never happened.

watch out kids!

I just came back from a month in barcelona, skated almost every classic spot and found a bunch of sick random ones on the way. It takes a little bit of time but all I did was make a custom google maps (then it works offline) by manually pinning in the spots from websites like these:

https://bcnspots.com
https://barcelonaskatespots.wordpress.com
http://www.skhateyou.com/spots/

Once you get a bunch of pins in the maps you will be surprised how close together some of these spots are, you can easily skate 10 good spots a day if you plan things out. I also found a few spots that were not on those lists by screenshotting clips and googling business signs, it's pretty easy with HD clips.

Simple and useful concept, 3 ledges, 2 small banks and a legde/flatbar.

All granit including the flat. That's all you need.

Yeah they are pretty sick. I went to one called Christiania and it was super chill. When you're walking around the gothic district every 4th random person will be like "come to my cannabis club!" We followed this guy through a zig zag of cutty alleys before we got there. The bud was all pretty good, they have some imported from Cali that they were selling grams of for 60 euro. Most of the other stuff was like 12-15 euro.

As slobplant said, it's possible to join various just by walking down the Ramblas.

For specifically La Kalada you might try to message them on insta (like a man) but if they told you the referral you will need a local.

I'm not member there as it's too far away from my house.

If you're in desperate need, hit me up. I'll refer you to my local.

Joined Dr Dou near Macba instead, quality product there and you can set up an appointment through email. No shortage of dudes on La Rambla coaxing tourists in either. DON'T do that^. They hide those beers under the piss-soaked tiles in the piss-soaked, rat infested dirt. Just go around the corner and buy yourself a few at a store. Those guys are so annoying. Same guy asking you every 2 minutes.

If you like a crowd, sure, visit Macba in the day/evening. If you want to try and skate the ledge up top (it's pretty beat), go around 11am. The ground up top is amazing.

BRING WALKING SHOES. Like, good runners or something - and change into your skate shoes at the spots. My feet couldn't handle the walking. There's a lot of walking. The most common sidewalks are a tile that's very rough. In fact - rent a bike. If I ever go back, I'm using a bike or renting a car.

Have fun - there's infinite spots.

I dunno if it still exiting, but ten years ago, you got the Chesterfiel cigarette club, who was a kind of a "private" club made by the same name cigarette company, you got a lounge inside, free wifi, free drinks, free video games, free computer, and of course free cigarette.
the entrance was tricky, free entrance, but you got to know someone who is in the club already to get in.
Some locals skaters got me in, I guess locals should know about it. I'm not a smoker, but it was a cool place to chill.

these things are in the barceloneta area. 14 carrer del gas.
right next to the torre de les aigues (tower). for the board
on the plane as in in the cabin i am pretty sceptical. skate
boards are classified as a dull weapon, you have to drop it
as bulky luggage which comes at extra costs all of the time.
easiest way is to try to fit the skateboard into your drop off
luggage bag/suitcase whatever, if possible. have fun vhspal.

This time last year I flew to BCN, then Berlin, then Copenhagen, then Rome, then back to BCN, then home. I think I checked my board on the way over but the other dudes I was with didn't, and then while I was out there we carried our boards onto every single flight and not a single airport or airline had issues with it besides the Italians, who weren't about letting us through security with the boards. This super sweet airline employee basically ushered us to the security person she knew was chill about it and we ended up getting through. Everyone else was super mellow about it.

About Barceloneta, look around while you're there. On the other side of the little park that the more famous banks are on are another set of banks that are way gnarlier but also very fun. That whole zone has a ton of spots anyways.

Been here for the last week staying in urqiunaona area and Friday night was fucking insane. trash can fires, tear gas, non lethal rounds being fired off. shit was like a war zone once it got dark. Anarchist graffiti everywhere, kids merauding in roves of black bloc, the stone sidewalks were broken to use as throwing ammo the state police speed through the street pull up on people fire off some rubber balls and lump kids up w their batons, financial /corporate stores and make-up stores were destroyed as well. As an American it really is shit you do not see every day, things have been pretty calm since the weekend though, and if it is popping off again when your here, It’s a big city, we took the metro and got off at fondo the man that tfunk pushed in the beginning of his dc promo is still posted up at that marble bank

Right across the beach in a park, there is two more banks like that that are well known spots.

depends on preference.

around raval there is three good shops:

amigos, it is a skate shop, nice people and good stock
hey ho! has nice shop decks and a bit more of a timeless core skate shop vibe.
rufus is the cool/hype one, no idea why

all of them are good and within 2 blocks of each other
[close]

actually: al carrer, almostr forgot. the guy is super nice and makes a lot of community projects to get kids into skateboarding.

and roots is fairly new and has a skate bowl, also nice.

i'd go to al carrer or amigos

That's in Mataró, up in the coast towards France, half an hour away by train.

The spot is called Caribu DIY. I think you can find it by just googleing it.

That whole section of spots is also lit to varying degrees at night, by the way. Possibly the best area we hit the whole month we were there. I had shit luck in Barcelona for clips, but got a sort of garbage line at that bank.

Fourth one also in Santa Coloma, it's in Avinguda Pallaresa 163. This spot is harder that it looks, also there's a skatepark down the street with a great bowl.

Covid is being taken seriously over here, but atm being summer it seems more relaxed.

There's a curfew at 1am that noone seems to respect and just the usual wear a mask when inside rule.

Not sure weather it will worsen as the tourist season ends.

What's the deal with cannabis clubs atm? Last time I was there (3-4 years ago) it was a bit tricky, because back then you had to register through an existing member and pay around 50e to register. Has this policy changed since then? And any idea about register fees? I'm just curious as I bumped into a website that says "everyone is welcome", but didn't have info about pricing.

It got easier after the covid hit, but I don't know right now. It's gonna take some time if you're looking for a decent place for less than 900€. Check Idealista or Fotocasa.

If you have any questions about neighborhoods let me know

What's the deal with cannabis clubs atm? Last time I was there (3-4 years ago) it was a bit tricky, because back then you had to register through an existing member and pay around 50e to register. Has this policy changed since then? And any idea about register fees? I'm just curious as I bumped into a website that says "everyone is welcome", but didn't have info about pricing.

i went at the end of 2019 and was able to get into a club without an existing member, i think i paid like 15-20 euros to become a member. if you dm them on instagram i’m sure they’ll help you out @thegoatbcn

I'm reading stuff online about Okupas. Is it just reddit bullshit or something to be worried about.

I don't think that you shouldn't been worried, right party media likes to talk about it but isn't much relevant. I don't know anyone that had his house or flat occupied.

some still do it like this, they only require a document with photo and the membership fee (10 to 20 euros).

Usually you'll be able to arrange over on Instagram and get an invitation, so you're all set.

Let me know if you need more info.

more than okupas I'll be worried about being scammed, try not to send all the rent money before moving as this is the most common scam, you'll show up and the house doesn't exist.

I would set some appointments to see houses as I'm in a hostel or at a friend's house but already in town, in order to limit the risk.

I just had lunch by this spot last week. The curb looked hella fun and there's a small stair set nearby. I don't recommend eating at the W, food was wildly overpriced and service was horrible.

I'm visiting for 10 days in June with my partner, her sister and parents. I may have time to skate, but mostly there to enjoy the culture/scene, eat good food, drink, the beach and go sight-seeing. I'm looking for some recommendations for restaurants and spots to visit, eat at, etc. Also is there anything y'all would recommend that is a must do before heading back to the states?

There are lots of things to do, but I have to break it to you: You will probably regret visiting from the states for 10 days and not skating at least 5 of them. I can imagine it´s probably a bit difficult with partner and family to make time for it, but I would try to clear that specifically before going. Look for a skatebuddy on here and enjoy the shit out of it.

I am from Europe and went a couple of times, did a lot of the sightseeing/eating/drinking stuff too but mostly only when I took a "day off" from skating.

i appreciate the reply. i consider myself lucky just being able to visit, so even if i don't skate much, its fine tbh. i'm there to have a vacation first, spend quality time with my lady (we do long distance), and then if time allows, i'll try to skate lol.

I'm also going to Primavera sound with my lady and her older sister. Skating isn't a huge priority for me either so I would also appreciate recommendations for things to do, restaurants, and bars. I assume you can score some gas by asking some local skaters lol that's what I did whenever I spent the summer in Germany

I kept hearing about the cannabis clubs but also heard they didn’t fuck with tourists. Went to The Goat and it was so chill. €20 membership fee but after that the smoke is relatively inexpensive especially compared to CA dispos. Thanks for the recommendation, definitely worth checking out!

Down for either of those spots. Casual, everyday spot is prob Parallel for me. Picnic DIY is also chill. I do have a soft spot for Forum just because I like to skate that bump to flat but there's pretty much no shade there during the day. Nice that you can basically jump in the ocean after a session there.

I like Born, can get pretty crowded though. Shoot me a PM though and we can figure when/where works.

what up pals, longtime slap member here... in a couple weeks, first time barcelona visitor. it's a family trip, not a skate one, but you know i'm bringing my board... wanted to check for any recommendations re: the most recent/up to date maps out there (i've seen a couple earlier in this topic but not sure how comprehensive/up to date they still are)

gonna be staying near the Arc de Triomf... kind of near the zoo? let me know any read on that general area..

and any read on skating spots alone? i'm not necessarily worried about the cops as much as not sure which areas may be sketchy and to what degree

any other thoughts on dos/don'ts re skate tourism there also appreciated.. looking forward to finally skating there after 20-plus years seeing these spots in vids

If you're staying near the Zoo the Born Skate Plaza is just there. Probably the hottest spot right now, small but everything is marble.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CECgvGKo3mV/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

Picnic DIY is also really close to arc del triomf, the place is nice but the floor is rough. After the session you can swim on the beach.

The closest shop is Al Carrer, they are legit and they are willing to help. There's also another shop called roots.

The most updated map is probably the Shinner app, you filter by the type of spot you're looking for.

Don't worry about the cops and sketchy zones, Barcelona it's secure. I wouldn't recommend leaving personal belongings on any bag, but just this!

Enjoy Barcelona, it's an amazing place. If you have any other question let me know!

I’m going to be here from Dec 25th-Jan 10th, so stoked. Will restaurants be open on Christmas?

Any of y’all swim in the sea all year round, or is that just crazy? I’m a pretty avid swimmer and the internet tells me it’ll be about 57F with air temp around 58F around that time, def not saying that’s warm, but it doesn’t sound totally horrible either (?). There’s a New Years swim at Sant Sebastia beach I’m gonna hit regardless.

Going to check out Valencia for a few days as well.

The restaurants will be open but I recommend you to reserve somewhere because they're quite full the 25th, the 26th is also another Christmas Bank Holiday called San Esteban. I would say that the water in December is cold but not freezing as it's on January or February.

Good choice with Valencia, I made a quick skate trip and was really fun.

Marula Club and Jamboree (on the afternoons). Both have pretty solid Jazz / Black music live music on the regs, plus they work as a club as well later in the night (Marula's the place if you want to party to some good funk/soul/rap. Night time Jamboree is a different animal, but the concerts they have in the afternoon are really good)

PS: used to live in BCN for the past twelve years but recently moved back to my hometown, so I'm afraid no linking up for me but feel free to DM for any other music or skating questions you might have about the city. Cheers!

I was going to plan a trip for early next year but I am easily riddled with travel guilt as most places I would like to go, locals would also love to leave. Which countries/cities do locals actually like and feel comfortable in these days?

Are some of the regular Macba guys homeless? A lot of them seem strung out.

Saw a hilarious argument today from some of the regular dudes about who was more homeless.

Final thing I heard was " Your Swedish, white AND HOMELESS"

In my humble opinion one of the best in the world. The ledges are perfection

There are two new indoors close to Barcelona

https://www.thesk8hub.com/
https://ungravityboard.com/es/indoorpark

Other than that I never found a good covered spot, you can skate in Les Corts if the rain is light because it's mainly covered but the water ends up going to the dry floor.

just take your trucks/wheels off and pack them in your bag. if you have a bag that can hold decks, you shoudnt have to check it unless its a huge one. Boards fit in the overhead tho so it shouldnt have to get checked unless you want it to.

My wife and I are staying in Poblenou in August, super stoked. Any good spots in that neighborhood? Picnic DIY looks sick, but seems like a lot of the other spots I wanna see are closer to city centre.

Picnic is the business. 20 mins skate along the beach from Picnic you have the Desigual slappy curb at the beach. Which is a great place to chill and skate.

Most of the famous spots are in the city centre. On the metro from Poblenou, door to door to Macba is like 25 mins.

I like poblenou cos it's right at the city but it's not hectic and it's got lots of open spaces and parks etc. Its really chill.

Hey everyone,
After years of dreaming about it, I'm finally going to Barcelona on a (mostly) skate trip for a week in September! I'm going with my wife (who is hitting the Skate Love Barcelona rollerskating summit) and we will be doing some touristy stuff, but I'm definitely orienting the trip around skating. I'm an older skater who is pretty much exclusive to ledges and banks, no handrails or stairs, but I'm also to do some some spot tourism even if just to see some of these legendary locales in person.

We're staying in Poblenou but aren't afraid of taking trains or walking/skating across the city. I'll obviously be hitting the Born Plaza, Picnic DIY, MACBA, and that curb by the W.

I'm looking for any tips, recommendations, or info you have. What spots are a bust? What is worth checking out just to see it in person? What are good places to eat that might not be on obvious internet lists (no dietary restrictions)? Any cool non-skate spots or things to do other than the obvious tourist stuff?

I'm especially curious about spots where I can skate and my wife can rollerskate (smooth, flat ground. She doesn't roll on transition. We're middle aged.)

I've got a map I'm making with spots, food, and some other things here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1Ur3twWvrIgLPKT383k4kBjgxz99-f6E&usp=sharing

If you go to Macba make sure to do it during mornings, place now is sketchy.

It's spicy but it ain't that sketchy you can't skate it and worry about something happening you.

Just don't leave valuables around.

I skate it evening time regularly. To be honest I was there Thursday morning last week at 9am and there was 3 dudes absolutely out of their minds and that was the only time I felt vulnerable. Because it was just me and them there. They were defo waiting to rob someone. Just waiting for the right person to come along it seemed like.

Visiting Barcelona in mid January. How cold is it? Sweater, beanie, etc? Thanks. I enjoy the cold but my wife usually needs a down jacket.

If you're looking for spots that your wife can rollerblade send a dm to Tyler Surrey, his girlfriend is a professional rollerblader.

Other than that parallel has a great floor but the recent spot kinda sucks for skating. There's a a new pump truck with a few quarters and rails just in front.

It depends, January temperatures are in between 8-15 Celsius degrees. I would recommend you a few layers because at noon can be hot sometimes.

I usually wear an undershirt, T-shirt and sweater or jacket.

Thanks! I like to travel light but definitely taking a packable jacket and sweater. Would love to visit some local shops, any recomendations? Not taking my board on this trip but will definitely visit some of the local spots.

Hey don't want to sound like a gossip girl but I think Tyler is no longer with the rollerblader. I saw an IG story of a cutie who also skates spending the night camping in the woods with a girlfriend, Tyler and Gustav.

Hahahaha, thanks for the gossip, in his 9 club interview they were still together.

@WarmUpZone Been there last month, it's pretty beat up but still skateble. I'm not sure if there's security up there. Anyway Montjuïc is great visit if you just want to hit the spot.

@Trashcon Rufus, Amigos, Petshop are really close to Macba.

I’m finally planning my trip to Barcelona. Should be there in October.

I was going to make a thread but since this one looks active… I want to know if there’s any shop that sells used decks. I don’t feel like flying with mine. When I used to live in LA I’d occasionally by one from this shop to use of for a week then donate it. Also if there’s any pals that want to sell me board or just skate / hang let me know!!!

I like 8.5 X 32 or 8.38

Also feel free  hit me up with a spot map or links. Also planning on going to Valencia in November.

Gonna check out Al Carrer and Amigos shops tomorrow

Thanks for the offer but I think my size 12 us  46 eu feet are too big for 8s, though I used to skate 7.5 in the mid 2000s . I actually just got a board a few days ago, there’s a chance I just bring it, plus I’m flying in from Bulgaria so plane probably won’t even be full.

I’m down to skate though. I’m traveling alone

Looking to mostly skate low impact and drink some brews. I have a feeling though I’ll spend most of my time being a skate tourist & just appreciating and taking photos of the spots I’ve seen destroyed since I was kid more so than skating them seriously .  ;D

I just got back from a week long skate trip to BCN and it was amazing. Thanks to all the Pals that helped with some spot pins and advice.

If anybody is on the fence about going... GO FOR IT. It isn't cheap by any means, but all the famous spots are still more or less skateable and the locals are cool as hell. MACBA wasn't nearly as vibey as I expected (although the level of skating is insane so it can be intimidating), and the locals at Paral-lel were very welcoming to a visitor. The El Born plaza was amazing as well. Every city should build spots like that.

One of the best days I had was just hitting banks and spots in the La Pau and San Marti nieghborhoods, then skating down through Besos and then hitting all legendary spots in Forum. Seriously overwhelming. Maybe one of the most fun skating days of my life.

Great subway system, everyone speaks English if you are worried about communication issues, the food was mostly terrific, and there are some excellent and not very crowded things to do if it rains, like the Catalunyan National History Museum.

I am so glad I made the trip.

Agreed ! Just finishing a three week trip, was supposed to be a two , but ended up extending .

Only thing is that this city has seemed pretty cheap to me. Maybe cause I’m coming from a ski town in CO , but you can eat for 20 euro a day here pretty easily, and if you shop for food , waaaay cheaper . 3 euro for breakfast pastry or empanada and coffee , 7 euro for a Bocadillo at lunch , and $10 for dinner

Metro is cheap if you buy the $20 pass for a month . DonkeyBike is super cheap for a month pass . $15 euro one time fee, 15 for a month .

But love this place . Will definitely be back.

Bobila is the best DIY I’ve ever seen

Going to be in Barcelona Oct 12-22. Even though my skate skills are much lower than they were years ago, I’m excited to see the spots raw dog with my bare eyeballs.

First things first I got go to a thrift shop and buy a small duffel bag and more clothes bc all I’m coming with is a tiny backpack. Oh and also buying a deck.

Also going to Andalusia and then making my way back up to Valencia the end of November.

Been studying Spanish everyday for a month, I see someone wrote everybody speaks English, but I’m committed to learning this language. ;D

Good for you for committing to learning Spanish.

You will be surprised that so much of Barcelona revolves around Catalan instead of Spanish. Between that and how well everyone spoke English, it was actually not the best immersive experience. But what is great is that so much signage and menus and such are in Catalan, English, and Spanish (often in that order), so you can constantly quiz yourself by trying to understand the Spanish portion and then refer to the English.

That’s really interesting. Ya taking on Catalan on top of Spanish while also trying to improve my Bulgarian is too much haha. I’m going to be in cities smaller than BCN most my time in 🇪🇸 I’ll be in The south (Andalusia) I’m sure I’ll have opportunity to be put to the test 😬:)

I hope to have just as good of a time in Barcelona as you !

The one that I mentioned is now Vinaròs (Valencia). Just found out the guy that took it home and he usually let people skate it.

They're demolishing the balcony and the center ledges to make a basketball court.

Yes, but I think it's just a makeover. There's a plan in the future to change everything if they find investors for the abandoned building...

Hit me with PMs or reply here if you got anything for me. Gracias.

This map is awesome, thank you! I was looking for that bank to curb spot by the beach on another map and couldn’t find it for the life of me.

My wife and I are headed to Barcelona in beginning of January after we postponed our Summer trip. Staying near Arc de Triomf so I’m stoked to get a session or two in at Born Plaza and the Arc de Triomf wallies.

Saw clips on insta looked sick. Ishod is the goat. Saw him skate last summer in Lyon. Was Koston on an anti hero deck? The clips I saw looked like it. Glad he is still out there skating.

I didn't actually notice his deck. He was in great form. Seems like a really friendly guy. Was stuffing his face with croissants.

Does Sants stay dry in the rain? I presume it somewhat does with the roof there ?

I'm off the next two days and it's due to rain straight
