I recently went through a Pokemon game obsession thanks to zipzinger666. Played Emerald for an entire weekend on my computer using a GBA driver. I have no life.

first search gba emulator, download it onto your desktop. then download the rom (cartridge) of the game you want to play, and open the emulator and drag the rom onto the emulator screen.

Here is the gameboy. Just download it and open it to start up the gameboy
http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gba/vboyadvance.html (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gba/vboyadvance.html)

Here is pokemon Leaf Green. Once its finished, just drag the file to over to the gameboy and it will start up
http://www.coolrom.com/roms/gba/14251/Pokemon_-_Leaf_Green.php (http://www.coolrom.com/roms/gba/14251/Pokemon_-_Leaf_Green.php)

since you have the GBA downloaded you can play any game you want, just gotta find the file and download them

If wifi capabilities for handhelds were around in 1998, pokemon would have probably been the biggest phenomenon of all time.

only nerds like that shit. i've never met a person that didnt fuck with squirtle
Title: Re: Pokemon Games
Post by: rawbertson. on October 17, 2010, 07:29:15 AM
i also took squirtle the first time i played.

ill try and run it down as best i can:

pokemon green is the original japanese one (i have one) never came out in english
red and blue are basically the exact same game just slightly better graphics in battle and just very minor minor fixes to the game
yellow is the same game only pikachu follows you around (more like the tv show) and some of the battles are a tiny bit different

then they came out with the 2nd ones which i believe are gold and silver for GBA, there may have been a 3rd much like yellow i forget
then they basically re-released the original 2 on GBA called Fire Red and Leaf Green they allowed you to set an item onto pokemon, you could have a hotkey item to select, graphics were completely redone, lots of minor changes to the game play.

then for DS they came out with platinum and i think emerald, and now they have a dimaond one which i think is the newest one and again a version that is much like the original yellow. and then they also re released the GBA ones on DS and called them heartgold and soulsilver. i think those are actually kind of old now tohugh i could be wrong.

no gold and silver (and crystal) were still for the game boy color

Game Boy: Red, Blue and Green, then Yellow
Game Boy Color: Gold, SIlver and Crystal
Game Boy Advance: Ruby and Sapphire, then FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald
Nintendo DS: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, then HeartGold and SoulSilver, and in a year or so Black and White

had to look it up, didn't have a clue there were this much of them, kinda lost track after the GBA ones

The TV show was pretty good until somewhere around the orange island saga where it became the same 4 episodes repeated.

I used to play Yellow on my GBC, so it couldn't have only been for Gamboy. I remember everything had a yellow tint.

FUCK that rival trainer who steals the other pokemon, dude always picks whatever pokemon is best against the one you pick, bullshit

Im stuck at one part because I have fucking rattatas and pidgeys and all these gay pokemon and he has all these beast ones

games pretty fun though, apparently once you get to a certain point you can travel to the original island from the first game and pick one of charmander squirtle or bulbasaur

charmander was always my dude but might have to get squirtle so once he transforms into blastoise im reminded of rawbs sex stories

errr all original gameboy games can also be used on the gbc

Frisco, I also picked charmander cause charizard is pretty rad, but he was also the toughest to train or use against the first two gym leaders, fire vs earth and fire vs water. Bulbasaur was the easiest to start with, but he's not as cool as charmander or squirtle.

who did you pick at the beginning now?

now playing platinum, since I know where everything is in Heart Gold (if everything somewhat remained the same)
but I agree, I think during the final stages, I used fly to get everywhere and surf to get to those secret caves and spots

I've been wanting to play Pokemon so bad lately. I know exactly where my Pokemon Gold is but I can't find my Game Boy anywhere. I'm thinking of going and picking up a cheap Game Boy Advance from a Gamestop just to play it again. I haven't played in years though, so I hope my saved game is alright. I remember that I had such a badass team.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are all exclusive to GBA and are all good/roughly the same game. If you're in it for the nostalgia, FireRed and LeafGreen might be good for you.

gameboy cartridges have a battery in them that runs 24/7 its used to keep the cart on so it can store save games in its memory.  apparently this battery has a life span of approximately 15 years. that means that in a year or so the battery in our red and blue carts will die and with it our save games we worked so hard on will disappear. one year pokemon fans.

Damn! I was at the Pokemon league on Fire Red but my computer messed up and the emulator disappeared. I had to train my Pokemon a lot anyway because my shit didn't stack up to the Pokemon league trainers. This is a little off subject but it's annoying as shit when you're about to beat a gym leader or something, they got that last bit of health left and then the asshole uses a full restore or a potion. I can't stand that shit especially when it happens several times. I've spent plenty of times playing Pokemon with my hands sweating over shit like this. Anyway I'm gonna go to Emulator Zone and find another Pokemon to play.

hahaha yes! niggas always use that shit on that ONE pokemon with some strong ass attack that wipes out half your party. just when you think you bout to get his ass that they get that shit back up to full health while your best pokemon is in the yellow w/ no more potions left. sometimes you gotta pull that underdog win and get your weakest pokemon to get finish em off. i did that to RED with his charizard i had that thing in the red but he took my feraligator the turn afterwards. i threw in a level 14 farfetched (sp?) and hit that nigga with Cut and it took him out! first time id ever seen a pokemon advance more than 5 levels after one battle lol

that's a little easier because you can just buy the thunder stone at the mart in Celadon. as best I remember, Pikachu is pretty hard to find in Red and Blue, but if you clone master balls you could easily get Zapdos and a bunch of other hard ones to catch.

I haven't played a pokemon games since red. I'm thinking about getting black 2. I've been looking at the available pokemon and some are only available through trade and Poke transfer.

So trade is trading with an actual person or a character in the game? What is poke transfer?

I would really, really like to get my hands on a copy of Pokémon fire red or emerald. Also, if anyone has a Nintendo ds laying around that they'd like to send to a nice home... lmk.

If anybody wants some gen 1 or 2 shinys, I know a way to glitch them and I'll be able to send them easily by the masses if you have Home on your Switch.

@Urtripping I can take a look but I'm pretty sure I have an old 3DS around with a cracked screen. Still works great just needs to have the top screen replaced. My girl got me a limited pokeball looking 3DS one very soon after the old one cracked so I just never got around to fixing the screen.

I was pretty excited about the premise of this game, but I watched that extended gameplay video they just put out and it looked...kinda boring? I'll wait until it comes out and we get some actual reviews but my expectations are sorta tempered for now. There's very thin ice for open world games to either be amazing or really bad and I hope my concerns are wrong.

I have been playing the Diamond remake and enjoying it though.

So did anyone get Legends Of Arceus?

I’m hearing it’s really fun but I’ve tried watching a bunch of gameplay videos and even tuning into livestreams of it and it’s almost always just someone in an empty field catching a Bidoof or something.

It’s like that at the start. The tutorials feel long and catch you out of nowhere. I’m not the most video game savvy person but, my friend said it was like breadth of the wild where you can beat the story but there’s so much to do. I picked it up this weekend thinking I’d give it an hour or two and by the time I know it it’s 4 am. It’s so easy to get hooked on it or carried away getting materials and making items or looking for specific Pokémon. I’ve enjoyed it. Kinda like sword and shield Pokémon will chase you in the wild… but they can and will harm you.

I'm roughly 18-20 hours into the game after this weekend and honestly this is the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game in my adult life and probably in general (minus the obvious first time I played through gen 1 as a little kid). The noble battles and wild area battles get pretty hectic, the shiny hunting and overall odds are great due to overworld spawns and the story is better than your average Pokemon game.

Overall I would absolutely recommend it.

I'm with you on this one coldbrew. I enjoy all Pokemon games, but this one in particular is a lot different and easier to get lost for hours in, it's so much fun.

I find myself constantly straying from the main story line to focus on the mini side missions, stacking items and levelling up my team as some of the battles are actually quite hard.

can't say I've focused too much on shiny hunting yet, but I am for sure going to once I fill out the dex a bit more.

Super stoked to hear some of you picked up and are enjoying Arceus. Excited about the free DLC aspect of it and the fact we're getting more side quests to do while I shiny hunt and finish my dex (as of right now I'm at about 220 so only 22 left to go?)

In regards to Gen 9, super hyped about a true open world aspect, none of the starters really jumped out to me but it already looks so much than Sw/Sh did.

Finally, as a Pokemon go addict who still plays daily in my in between normal day to day life, very excited to get the Alola region announcement as Sun & Moon was one of the games that really got me back into Pokemon after the standard high school/college break of partying and going to school.

Long story short, very excited about the future of the franchise.

oh shit that's right, for some reason I always forget Pangoro isn't just dark typing. I also have never used it in a play through so maybe I should. Dark/Fighting is a rad combo.

I think my team was something along the lines of Grimsnarl, centiskorch, leafeon, tyranitar, intelleon and maybe excadrill? it's been forever since I played and you can't go back and check your hall of fame team like you can in other games.

Personally I’m extremely excited. Love the open world and the idea that no matter how you choose to move forward in the game the gyms and battles will scale. I’m not overly stoked on the starters or the initial Pokémon we’ve seen so far but I fucking love the legendaries and this past/future idea. I’m hoping the third legendary is something like a present version of the two?

Overall between PLA, Sw/Sh wild area and now scarlet & violet I am loving where the franchise is headed and the potential it has.

I’m very interested in what this games mechanic or gimmick is tho. Multiple typings via a held item? Hoping we get region name a new trailer and some more mon reveals very soon.

i usually only do like 1-2 batles per night so i only managed to get up to like rank 7 of singles and doubles but gonna try to aim to get on the ladder for this month. i dont mind getting my ass beat, i can just go copy their team later easily enough i suppose. i am kinda just looking to play a shit load of matches til i see someone do something really insane / cool and then i will proably try to swtich my team to that

i mostly just use Zacian / Kyogre / Zapdos  and then the other 3 are different depending on doubles / singles, seesm like they are just super fast and powerful, cant really go wrong  but i am a huge fan of those teams that do speed swap and trick room etc. i am too new to come up with something like that still though

Just finished a nuzlocke of brilliant diamond. Lost to flint in the elite 4 and don’t feel like training up a whole new team so I’m calling it a wrap. Discouraging but it was a super fun challenge.

Run number 2 of my brilliant diamond nuzlocke attempt and feeling good going into the elite 4. Team is Gastrodon, Scizor, Alakazam, crobat, rapidash and altaria. Wish me luck.

Also, everyone see the S/V trailer this past week? I’m excited for the terastal mechanic but those stupid fucking hats are so dumb looking. Otherwise I’m excited for the game and the map looks massive.

Pretty hyped too. Not a big fan of having the cover mons as a ride but nothing is perfect. I think this one will be pretty huge.

Thinking of picking it up after work. I was reading reviews yesterday claiming that the game's potential is noticeably held back by poor performance issues, but I was watching a random livestream of someone playing and it wasn't THAT bad. Not that I'm going into a Pokemon game expecting top notch visuals, but still.

Been playing since midnight. The open world is massive. A little bit laggy but it’s truly open world. I’m liking it a lot. I’ve barely done anything but explore trying to see what Pokémon are where early on.  Just bought a battery pack for my switch because I know this game is going to destroy battery life in handheld mode. Also items are everywhere. Hopefully larvitar can be caught early on.

played probably ~8 hours so far, game is definitely buggy as shit and the graphics are absolutely horrendous. outside of performance, the story is ass and the world is bland. it's still kinda fun simply due to pokemon being pokemon but yeah definitely a disappointment overall.

i am really liking it so far. it is very buggy but its not that bad. it has never crashed for me. love how you can do auto battles. apparently you will see the shiny in the wild which is really cool. but there is no more sparkle or sound so it can be really hard to see some of them. i have heard your auto battle guy also will not fight a shiny and kill him by accident lol which is nice.

This game pretty much ate my whole weekend lol

It often runs like absolute ass which is frustrating considering Pokemon is the single highest grossing franchise of all time. But it's still very fun and I've spent hours just picking a direction and going to see what happens. I'm hoping we get a performance patch soon cuz some areas look like a Windows 98 screensaver.

echoing what everyone else has said so far, I'm really hoping a patch comes out ASAP that helps because there's some serious lag and glitching going on in certain situations. That being said though, I'm about 25 hours into it so far and having an amazing time. I'm very much a completionist so just focusing on early dex finishing while exploring and unlocking the titans. I'm saving the gym challenge story line for post game so I can breed a specific team after I see all the new mons. Also, two shinies already.

Nice so far I got shiny Donphan. been running him in my team. gardevoir, azumaril, fletchinder (really not a lot of options for fire types in this game), starter Grass Cat, and Rotom. seems like ive been able to deal with everything pretty easily for the most part, i think honestly you can beat this game with any team

only used a few TMs to make my shiny donphan reall cool / more useful. put gunk shot cause i had no poison moves, and rock blast to deal with flying types (lot of steel mons with levitate in this game again). its too bad he is not also a rock type to get that extra Same Type Ability Bonus.

I am not sure if i did the game in the correct order? lol i was at a part where my guys seemed way underlevelled but i powered through pretty easily still. then my guys seemed overlevelled for a long ass time. now finally to a point where wild mons are level 50

I am just a bit over 200 in the dex. i stopped noticing the performance issues after awhile but yeah they are definintely there. you gotta keep in mind switch is an older handheld at this point now, its even weaker than a ps4. but they should have been able to optimize that better i agree.

all in all, i am really loving this game so far, cant wait to do battles online and shiny hatching. i hope they put out expansions for this too, im sure thats the plan

Well, I finished the full story, post game and all... and holy shit. That was one of the best Pokemon games I've ever played in my entire life. I won't spoil anything story wise but I legit got a bit emotional at points. For once the story telling and culmination of plot lines actually worked out. The new patch came out to fix some of the lag and bug issues and it already feels a bit better.

Now off to reface the gym leaders, shiny hunt, and breed myself a team that I'll trade over to play through Scarlet.

Amazing game.

I'm somewhere around the 300 mark of my dex as well. The raid battles are so much better than sw/sh and I love how quick they are in comparison. Not having to wait for everyone to select and attack was a huge QOL improvement.

And yes, huge power Azumarill is fucking busted. Might shiny hunt one.

someone told me you should learn Belly Drum for Azumaril. you have to learn it from an egg move but its a lot easier in this game to do, you dont have to breed a brand new one you can just have a picnic with both mons in your party and have the azumaril holding a certain item, have an open move slot, and you will learn the move!

i heard you can 1 shot the raid boss before the shield even goes up in a lot of situations

If memory serves the store's stock changes depending on your progress, so if you tried early in the game it probably wasn't there. I got a Scizor as soon as I could and he's an asset to my team.
Title: Re: Pokemon Games
Post by: rawbertson. on December 14, 2022, 06:42:55 AM
Yeah Scizor has to be one of the best bug type. Nice pairing with steel too makes it strong against a lot of stuff as long as you dont get hit with fire. and you can set the terra to like water or something too, that would be cool to nullify that weakness.

I just unlocked the 6 star raids and man are they hard. I am working on Gimmighoul coins now. I watched this video and i noticed a lot of people are using goldengho in raids so I gotta get it!

https://youtu.be/cnLVImPpgFA

Azumaril and Iron Hands with Belly Drum are the main 2 I am using to take down 5 star raids now. With Iron Hands you can do Drain Punch which heals your health back to keep you alive longer which is so good. between those 2 I can beat a lot of raids, gotta fill in the gaps now, not sure what i am gonna do next. I am starting to figure out the EV training, thats something that i have always been too fried to understand but it means quite a lot if you can do it

Played red, blue and yellow the most.

I felt finished when I created a team with “unpopular” pokemons that I liked. The team was Hypno, Dodrio, Kingler, Vileplume, Electabuzz and Golem, and took them all to level 100 and I was done playing for the rest of my life.

But the hardest way to beat the Elite Four was when I used a team without evolving them. That was tough, try that if you want a challenge.

https://game8.co/games/Pokemon-Scarlet-Violet/archives/397713

this tells you some good tera raid pokemon ^ I mainly use goldengo, azumaril, iron valiant, iron hands, charizard, ting lu, that covers quite a bit. you have to do the correct EV training or else they will be much weaker.

i finally figured out how to do the EVs
basically as soon as you catch it, buy the vitamins for the stats you wanna boost - you need it to total 52 all together - and feed straight away before battling it at all. so for raids typically you just do 26 for HP and 26 for ATK or SP ATK depending which pokemon it is. battling will mess the ev's up. there is a way to feed it berries or something to lower it but i have heard its faster to just start over (i guess if you mess up a shiny then you have to do the berries)

I finally got around to shiny hunting in this game w/ the level 3 sandwiches and it's so fucking broken. I'm might go ahead and just try and do a full shiny dex for this game bc it's so easy to boost your encounters and narrow down exactly the spawns of what you're going for.
Title: Re: Pokemon Games
Post by: HalfWolf on January 18, 2023, 08:21:42 PM
Shiny hunting can be a fun and rewarding experience in some video games. The level 3 sandwiches method you mentioned is likely a reference to a specific strategy in the Pokémon games where players can use an item called the "Lucky Egg" in combination with high-level Pokémon to increase their chances of encountering shiny Pokémon here (https://collectorpricing.org).

Keep in mind that while some methods may make shiny hunting easier, it's still a random process and requires a lot of patience and persistence. However, if you enjoy the challenge and excitement of searching for shinies, then going for a full shiny dex can be a great goal to work towards. Just remember to take breaks and enjoy the other aspects of the game as well!

It's still pretty active, I don't really mess with others in it though.  I made it halfway through Black, before sailing over to Kanto to start Fire Red.  When I first played it 9 years ago, it was just Fire Red, but now you can install the ROMS for 4 different games.

idk i dont think its that broken. the shiny raids in the previous game were way more busted. people would just host shiny raids 24/7 (and still do) they just rotate the dens. i have like 4 pages of shinies from joining random peoples raids lol. it is done through seed / time skip manipulation, which is in essence similar to what you are doing by forcing an outbreak (of course you can just do it much easier + more "naturally" by actually just wiating til the next day in real life too) you just dont have any way to force the seed so you actually have to look for the pokemon! haha

i also think its not that broken because A LOT of the new pokemon are SUPER hard to tell the difference between the shiny and regular version. i think this makes it more skill based and less RNG based! also, not every pokemon can be found in outbreak, like the ones in the final area. I didnt evne know this and somehow i managed to get Iron Valiant really quickly who is one of my favorite shinies in the game :)  I really wanna start working on iron hands too.

Plus you gotta keep grinding raids in order to get lots of salty herbs which takes time. All in all I think its actually a perfect ecosystem to keep people playing and having fun! the shiny raids were definitely too broken and silly.

rental team system works amazing if you want to get into battling too. its pretty fun i could see myself putting more time into this. i didnt like how random it felt before but i think you have to just keep more of an open mind that you will lose games sometimes right off the gate due to selection of the other team and thats just part of it. its not like street fighter where if you play absolutely out of your mind you can overcome a really hard matchup.

pre-ordered mine yesterday. pretty bummed it's only raids to hold us over between now and then. looks like I'll be revisiting an old game to nuzlocke in the meantime or finally do a full shiny play through of scarlet just to kill time and ultimately get the version exclusives with my own trainer name.

I fired up PTCGO last night and played a few games. I'm bummed it's being phased out soon for their new dogshit app Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. It's ugly, sterile and souless. Full of ugly nonsensical animations, seizure inducing flashes and low resolution card graphics.

It's kind of funny how my young son got me into playing pokemon cards as grown ass man. I had no idea of the rules of the game when I was a kid and they were first popular. We learned how to play the game together with the battle academy set and I got him a few other pre made decks so we could have some more interesting matches. We still play but need some new decks to keep things fresh and interesting.

I think it's just the fact the spawn variance is a tad less than outside of area zero and you can control them with sandwiches so much easier that you can pinpoint exactly what you're trying to hunt. I have been doing a lot of shiny hunting still as well. I've been hunting a shiny salazzle since my first play through of gen 7 as it's one of my favorite mons and finally managed to get one this past week.

Regarding your question, to catch Mewtwo in the Cerulean Cave in Pokemon FireRed, you need to have defeated the Elite Four and have access to the Sevii Islands. Once you have done that, head to the cave and navigate your way through it to the bottom floor, where you'll find Mewtwo. Make sure you have plenty of Ultra Balls to increase your chances of catching it. Good luck!

I'm currently playing gen 1 for the first time (I've played fire red partially and finished let's go, just never played the originals). I went with yellow version. I've heard a lot people say gen 1 isn't that fun to play nowadays but I'm enjoying it quite a bit, I'm used to playing retro games quite often though. Also, the animations for the partner Pikachu are adorable. I named by squirtle (now wartortle) Steamer after Elissa.

Unlike a lot of people, I really enjoy Sword and Shield but I can definitely see it feeling rigid compared to gen 9. Have you played Legends Arceus? I highly recommend it, I love that game. Branches out of the typical Pokémon structure while still feeling familiar and the exploration is really fun. It's not for everyone but based on what you said about shield, I think you would really like this one. Also, that's really cool that you're playing these games alongside your daughter. Sounds really fun for you guys to be able to share this experience!

yeah the new game brought so many more quality of life features. i could see it being hard to go back. the raids in particular were extremely painful. i love doing raids in violet though.

i am pretty good at beating the 6* ones solo so if anyone getting stuck on one let me know and i can help you get it!

Finished playing shield and it is my favorite traditional pokemon game. I haven't played arceus, but I'll try out my daughter's copy when I see her.

I also have about 1000 hours in shield. I love that game. I know it's crazy to say but I think the traditional formula for Pokemon games still is the best. I love scarlet/violet but there's something about the balance of traditional and open world for sw/sh that worked so well. The raid dens were perfect too.

I’ll put more time into shield later.

Right now, I’m playing Zelda Breath of Wild. I wonder if there is some overlap between the team that worked on that and Scarlet/Violet.

i can def see the resemblences
i am playing breath of the wild right now as well. tbh its not really my favorite, i find it a bit of a chore to play and last few nights have just played nothing... might just swtich back to violet i was really liking playing that every night before bed. i am just borrowing zelda though and feel obligated to beat it. i just beat the elephant dungeon and it was a pain in the ass to figure out.

I had to get a guide. It’s too hard and I wanted to get back to aimlessly wandering. I wandered forever before doing the objectives. It’s a fun world to trek.

Planning on jumping into the new Teal Mask DLC later tonight after work. I have very minimal expectations but I am excited to get to use some mons that I seemingly haven't used since my 3DS days and can shiny hunt easier than I had to back in the day. Shiny Ariados and Vikavolt both on the list, I want the new applin form too.

Yep, put a couple hours into it last night and having a lot of fun. I'm digging the story and the overall area it's set in and as I said in my previous post, seeing some gen 4-5 mons in the game is awesome.

Finally finished Shield's league. I really liked this game. Last game I played was Sun when it came out, finished it and was a little burnt out on Pokemon. Is there much of post-game stuff to do in SwSh?

The DLC’s are fun for sure and the ability to hunt/shiny hunt a ton of legendaries in dynamax adventures is great. Shiny odds are pretty high too. If you liked shield I’d say the DLC’s are worth it.

Sounds great, I'll try the DLCs next . I really liked these games and the region and would love to play some more.

Ok, I looked it up and it seems that the Pokemon Sw/Sh Dlc isnt available for download anymore. Was it only available for a limited time or something? Kinda bummed rn.

Weird, they should still be available. If you're actually in the game and connected to the internet there should be a pop up for "Expansion Pass" for the Crown Tundra & Aisle of Armor. It's obviously been a while since I purchased them. It says they're still available in the Nintendo e-shop but not sure if you're in a different country or logged in under a different user than the one you got your sw/sh account on?

don't where I looked up that they're not available anymore, but good if they still are.
