so anotehr night of boaredom led me to the apple site and theres a virtual tour of the apple store on fifth ave. and it looks very skateable, but does anybody knwo about the security situation.

Forget it. It's a Trump building and before the apple store was there it was even better.  3 or 4 stairs with marble benches. Check the first line in the video.
