Berrics skateboards totally sounds realistic. There is so much traffic that they can pick up any new Mike Mo and hype them up on their site. No need for Alien at all really but Alien just got that much better....well sort of. Kalis leaving kind of fucked up a lot of shit there.

berra is so unfabo his mere existence decreases the fabo levels of fabo goons and even the fabo elite. the best black asian skateboarder gideon choi once stood next to berra and his fabo levels got so low he had no choice but to retreat from the industry.

He will definitely do his own thing. As much as we hate on Berra for his melodramatic black and white videos, he is a fucking GREAT business man. Do you think starting the Berrics was easy? He most likely worked harder for that park/website than anything I will do in my entire life. Flawless execusion, and aside from 50% of the filler, the Berrics has produced the most entertaining free content we could have asked for.

Berra will have his own board company, or create some type of paradigm shift where he has no sponsor at all, but still gets checks from every board company.

But this is good news. If you stop putting out good footage, theres no real reason to keep you on the team. Make room for Jake! You gotta let homies come up.

HE'S NOT ON EXP-1. I don;t know if he's off ALien or not, But I DO KNOW that he isn't on EXP-1 or never will be on the team.

did you check with the crew on that (cause i know you could)? it doesn't seem logical, but this is skateboarding so i'd like to hear a definite no on that.

does anyone remember that video of him and billy marks playing skate? He was riding an expedition board, so all the little kids thought he was on, so he tweeted that he wasn't on expedition.

So if thats where OP is getting his info, suck a duck dick.

What would be the benifit to add him to the EXP 1 team ?

Hes about 1 year late on his Battle commander part , and his Mindfield part was super short . I think hes had slim to none footage since DVS skate more .

Ive never been a super big fan of Berra . But I did enjoy his Skate more part , good skating with good song . I guess injurys and the berrics take up too much of his time though to actually skate ...

But does Berra sell boards even? I'm not going to deny that tons of kids go to the Berrics , but does anybody go to the website to see him? I mean, how many people love Thrasher and hate Phelps?

If you go to any YouTube video with Steve, kids still love him for some reason. Even if it's just a Berrics clip where he's not skating.

Not to say YouTube comments should have any legitimate say in anything, but still.

Berra has been doing this skateboard thing for a long while now. He was on Birdhouse during some pretty dismal times for skateboarding, and stuck with it.

Well Heath still sells boards I'm sure. Its kind of funny though, that AWS never really did any kind of collabo with the Berrics... you'd think they'd be all over that with Steve as their rider.

Maybe Steve was a prick to deal with and had unreasonable demands, or maybe AWS just wanted to keep its image.

Why are ppl wishing Mikey Taylor out of a job ?  I think the dude has a wife and a kid ?  and he seems like the nicest dude ever ?

I mean he came up with van wastell , p rod and some other sick dudes . He might not have super P rod skills , but he still has pretty nice style and does alot of mellow long rails and some nice flips and gaps .

His DVS part was super good , and his mindfield was really good too .

Is everyone willing to shut the fuck up now and lay off the Berra hate?

He's not on any legit sponsors now according to this message board, and I'm tired of reading the Berra hate.  If you don't like him just don't go to the website.  Problem is, you still have to read all that shit here too.

Hopefully we're done now.

Also, he's probably going to Element.  Dude will go to some sponsor.  It's almost free money, so why wouldn't he even in shame?

Someone told me that part of the reason that Heath and Berra would jump ship together so often was because Heath brought him with him. Companies wanted Heath so badly that they were willing to sponsor Berra just to get him.

Are they that good of friends? Why would Heath care so much about hooking Berra up with board sponsors? Would Tony/Birdhouse really have dropped Berra if Heath left without him?

What's it like being teammates with Berra for so long. You guys have been on Foundation and Birdhouse together. How do you guys push each other/influence each other?

Heath: This will be the third board company that we have rode for at the same time. We are good friends but not the greatest of friends, but their seems to be this silent loyalty between us that has been there since the early Foundation years.

I understand why everyone is not down with berra, but every pro skater brings something different to the table.  While he doesn't skate as often as he did, he's been skating/been involved with the industry for a while, so he atleast deserves our respect.  His black and white crying video was kinda wack, but in the end, he is actually helping skateboarding survive.  Plus, his skating is solid, despite not skating as much these days...

berra and the berrics RUN skateboarding as afar as Slap goes. if there isnt something going on at the berrics...slap threads devolve into ankle pants highwater threads and fantasy skate leagues and call kinds of other random bullshit. the absolute worse thing to do on Slap is to admit to liking the berrics. To be "cool" on Slap you must declare jihad against the berrics and steve berra. on during ramadan (BATB) is it ok to view/discuss the berrics WITHOUT lacing every sentence with hate for steve berra.

[close]

How in the hell so? Since when did skateboarding need Steve Berra's help?

Also his name is Steve. Just say that name out loud.
[close]

How isn't it helping skateboarding?  Having a bunch of pros under the same roof hanging out, aswell as practising to take there skills to the street is a good idea.  It keeps the pros unified. Also, it's more footage for us to watch. PS: I am steve berra.

Yeah, thank goodness Steve invented the concept of a training facility. Nobody's ever thought of that before!

Steve isn't the coolest guy in skating, we get it. However, he did come up with a really good idea and he is helping a lot of skaters out. If you don't like it, don't go to his site, or buy products he endorses. Done. Let's talk about something cooler, please!

Oh come on, that is just bullcrap. Steve is total douche and everyone knows it.

- Compared to the rest of the Workshop, Berra cant skate at all. Deal with it!
- Sheckler is skateing his ass off right now and you gotta respect this, somehow. Berra cant even pull a game of skate on flatground.
- Rob is giving back to the community with his skatepark thing!

Let alone his endless hate against the Slapboards be the fact that tells you how much of a dwarf he is. He kicked people out of his park just because he heard they were posting here...

I've skated there and Steve is always nice to me when I see him. In  fact, he's usually pretty nice to everyone who's there. You do have to realize though that there are thousands of kids, teens, and adults trying to get in there, and he doesn't (and shouldn't) want everyone in there.

Am I a huge fan of his, no.
Do I think he is as good as Heath, AVE, Dylan no.
Do I think he should be kicked off his board sponsor, no.

The guy has made some mistakes, but he has also put out some really pro level shit, and over a long period of time. He has had top level sponsors for his whole career.

what exactly have you done?

also, to clarify. I don't really want to be here sticking up for Steve Berra. This is more about people needing to put them self's in check.

dude fuck Don Pendleton, Mike Hill was the true sovereign visionary.  let that guy start doing the graphics again.  Pendleton's shit is too indie-art/beautiful losers cartoony.

Right on, man. Next,

* Dyrdek stays, forever.

* AVE and Dill as official team/brand manager/curator/whatever overseers.

* New art director, and no more series boards. No more band collabos. No more reissue graphics. The good ones aren't even being chosen in the first place -- where's Steve Claar's bluebird? Pitre's olives? Neil's shooters? Fabo Freddy's black widow? Lennie's neon Jesuses??

* Turn Jake and Gilby pro simultaneously, yesterday. Do a City Stars-style fake poll to inspire emotional investment.

* Work some ju-ju on Mikey Taylor and trick him into quitting; make him think that he dumped you guys. He got in through the Seek backdoor, and he never bothered no one, but it's us not you. It's be best for everyone; sending good vibes.

* Dickhead intervention with Dylan. .

* Get Nick Boserio out of the International ghetto and put him on the proper team. It'll be like the Alien equivalent of Alex Davis or maybe Durante. Anti-Hero's always done that right; even if certain fellas aren't on the fast track to a pro model, putting them officially on the team is good for overall morale, the strength of the company, and stands as a gracious move to boot. Is David Clark still on 60/40? If not, put him on too. Is Pat McClain still getting flowed by Anti-Hero? Put him on, the combo of him and Grant on tour might be equivalent to one Bo Turner.

* Shit, get Freddy back on. Smack the kufi off, yank him home.

* Don't call it a 'veteran's division', go the Grosso-AH/Lance-Flip route and don't stoop, but if they'll stand for it, have a cipher and then throw some of the old gods back on. LEN. Let Duane do his La Monte Young thing and lace him with sk8 money. Steve Claar looks like Matt Dillon in 'Wild Things' now, that deserves a paycheck. John Drake. Mike Hayes is to the Workshop as JP Jadeed is to the Fabo Nation. John Lucero should never have become the sole outlet for Blender models. Fuck, put The Heated Wheel under DNA, it'll be the equivalent of Chandler on the North Shore.

Berrra was one of my first favorite pros. His part in The End knocked my face off, and I saw it years after the video was realised, in fact it still holds a pretty good standard today. Alex Olson can only hope to be on Berras level someday. The problem lies within his psycho personality. Every entry in early issues of The skateboard mag about/by him show the dudes selfobsession and nutty stuff he does. "The ultimate" is a perfect example where he follows lakai teammembers in Barcelona to a near criminal degree, Im sure people have got restraining orders for less. Add his new influence thanks to The Berrics and you get the picture, scary..

Can someone post his original berrics statement of honor or whatever the fuck, where he explained how he was not going to sell out the berrics?  If i could show some hipocracy in that I would have a better reason to hate him than just being a religious kook.  He's alright at skating but hes far from the only guy milkin it of his status, he gets hated on a little hard it seems, but I could give a fuck, its easy to jump on the hate bandwagon.

Yeah, his heart's in the right place so who gives a fuck how he's achieving these goals? Who cares that he made the "Unified" project sound free, but then charges a pretty steep price for it (yes, I am aware that his fee for ads is lower than most outlets, but if a shop needs to go on the "Unified" program, then I'm sure they don't have $150-$550 a month to throw around for a website.)? Or when he starts this project to "help preserve the skateboarding community," he simultaneously launches the Berrics Canteen, with the same exact stuff in it, and with a huge team of big pros and ams? He knows damn well that little kids are going to ask to order from the site and not go to a local shop despite the Canteen's tiny disclaimer asking them to go to a local shop. But that's cool-he meant to help skater-owned shops so who gives a fuck if he's simultaneously screwing them over?

Also-we dislike Berra because he started attacking the forum and posters here, threatening to reveal people's personal information if they didn't stop voicing their opinions of him and his actions. You know that little disclaimer that you have to click before looking at the forums? That's partially up because Berra kept bitching at Whiteley.

Common sense tells me that they wouldn't fire him. Him and Dyrdek sell boards?  just on their celeb status alone. It would be like Element firing Bam. Just a thought.

good point, but I don't think they depend that much on him (compared to bam)
all the dylan vibe must have changed the board sales

btw, fuck you berra

When was the last time anyone seen Bam boards?
[close]

Saw one last month, no lie.
[close]
yeah actually, over the weekend some kid strolled into the park mall-grabbing a bam board with some old-ass bam pro trucks. for a second i thought i had time-travelled back to highschool
dont compare Bam with Berra. Bam is fuckin sick, and Berra is not.

interviewer does a rather solid job

THANKS!

I'll be posting the full 2 hour interview in audio & text next Monday... way better than what they could fit into the mag.

And the random quote of the day goes to....

Well look what we have here boys! How about this; take Alex dick out of your mouth and show me a better part with your boyfriend. Watch Berras "The End" part (from 98) and tell me that what you think. Does Alex have a better style or selection of tricks or is his approach to skating "timeless" like many for some reason want to imagine? Oooh he ollied a table.... Fuck, sometimes I think Childoftheghetto is right about SLAPs zombielike brainless "This dude is sick" mentality. I would die a happy man if Cotg got a spot on Girl instead of Olson. (no homo nigga)

you act like someone gives a flying fuck about your opinion of berra vs alex o. when you want to talk about a real comparison (maybe corey kennedy vs ishod? that could be an argument), let me know, but to even get all "i'm gonna put some exclamations on this motherfucker so they know i'm real" about a comparison between those two proves you're just reaching and probably need a hug (so homo). so i'll say it again, either say something worth saying, or shut up fuckboy.

So if you dont like him thats your own problem he is still out there trying to help you and every other skater out there so show the guy some respect. He's a good guy and if you had the opportunities that he has had you cant say you wouldnt take them in a heart beat! So sit here and hate on him behind your computer rather than go out and do something progressive because thats exactly how skateboarding progresses..... Steve Berra couldn't backsmith this tiny rail at SPoT last time he tried to enter the Tampa Pro a couple years ago.  He threw alittle hissy fit and whined like a little bitch and continued to skate terribly. At the same time Rob Dyrdek who sure as hell didn't skate as much as Berra did at that time (2007 Rob and Big peak popularity) was literally throwing down one of the most consistent and technical lines of any of the pros practicing and having fun with it while he was at it.  At the ripe age of 15 I knew right then that day that Steve Berra, 1. sucked balls at skating and 2. was a whiny bitch.  Glad my first impression of Steve Berra was correct.

The year they filmed that Rob and Big episode at Tampa Pro, when Steve was trying that frontside flip over and over, Brian Anderson rolled up and did it like first try, and then just kept skating away.
