5 hours away.

Apparently it's going to be sold in shops with a box, but with a download code inside instead of an actual disc. Very lame.

Damn, they nailed it with the graphics and really captured life in LA. Will be my first video game purchase since San Andreas. Rumors on reddit say the main character is Tommy Vercetti.

I think GTA IV got a lot of shit since it got such high ratings from reviewers. IGN gave it a 10 and I don't think anyone to this day agrees with that score.

As much as I hate to see another LA based game, GTA V will do way better then the last one.

At the moment I'm not too thrilled. I mean, sure, more of the same as GTA IV will already be enough for an interesting game, but I wonder what's going to be new other than the scenery.

*edit. Well, the scenery isn't exactly new either....

the only thing I found was this

http://www.gamesradar.com/gta-v-release-date-spotted-rockstar-resume/ (http://www.gamesradar.com/gta-v-release-date-spotted-rockstar-resume/)

Quote
A now-deleted employee record suggests Rockstar is preparing Grand Theft Auto V for a fall 2012 release. The anticipated date was spotted by reporter Dave Oshry on a resume belonging to Rockstar North character animator Alex O'Dwyer, who listed the game as arriving in October 2012.

The resume has since been taken down, however Joystiq managed to grab a screenshot of O'Dwyer's document:

A scan of O'Dwyer's LinkedIn account confirms he is indeed involved in GTA V, which is being developed at Rockstar's UK office. The fact the original CV is nowhere to been is suspect, however Rockstar has yet add its official comments to the mix. Perhaps the team is waiting for a certain electronic gaming expo...?

If GTA V does arrive this October, that will put it in the same launch window as Assassin's Creed III, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and who knows what else has yet to be announced for the holiday season. But hey, what are the holidays without a little healthy competition?

Whoever wrote that is also delusional if they think anyone would buy Assasins Creed, Bio Shock or Borderlands over GTA5. Zero competition. That's bordering (excuse the pun) regular.

Assassin's Creed and Borderlands both have a HUGE devoted fan base and the Bioshock franchise has been praised critically for a long time. Those are strong contenders against GTAV, but you're right. They won't beat it in sales. Not true it has zero competition though.

If you don't care as much about the visuals, for sure
But me, personally, I like everything on PC especially when graphic mods come out

I just upgraded my gpu so I'm excited, although I'm gonna guess that the PC version will not be out for at least another year
This is based on how long it took them to make that shitty PC port of GTA IV

In Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar wants money to be more important than it has ever been before in the series. Sure, you'll be able to get your hands on some ducats by holding up liquor stores, robbing ATMs, and engaging in all sorts of other small-time crimes, but the payouts for such activities will be chump change compared to the big scores available to you through the game's big heists. These missions require planning and decision making, and have you switching between Michael, Franklin, and Trevor as they work together to pull off these jobs. By having multiple protagonists, each with his own tasks to perform, Grand Theft Auto V can keep you focused on the most dramatic parts of the heist.
By having multiple protagonists, each with his own tasks to perform, Grand Theft Auto V can keep you focused on the most dramatic parts of the heist.
Though it's not one of the large-scale, full-blown heists that come later in the game, an early mission called Blitz Play was a promising taste of what might come later. Before you can pull off this mission, which owes more than a little to the armored car robbery that takes place early in the film Heat, you need to acquire some vehicles, outfits, masks, and other supplies, and park your getaway car in some isolated spot. The dramatic buildup of this preparation should, in true cinematic style, pay off during the job itself. (After all, the armored car job in Heatwouldn't be quite as exciting without the buildup of seeing De Niro steal the ambulance, Kilmer buy the explosives, and so on.)
Once all the preparations have been made, it's go time. As Trevor, you're a lookout, searching for an armored car and letting your cohorts know when it's approaching. As Michael, you park a truck across the road, forcing the armored car to come to a stop. As Franklin, you then speed down an alleyway in a dump truck and run the armored car down, knocking it over. You then plant a bomb on the rear doors of the truck and blow the thing open.
It doesn't take long for the cops to show up. Franklin, Trevor, and Michael must work together to get out of there alive, and you can switch between them on the fly to most effectively extricate yourself from the situation. From Trevor's lookout post, for instance, you can fire on the cops with a sniper rifle, offering support to Franklin, who the cops have hemmed in. Your counterparts can fend for themselves when you're not controlling them, but they'll typically leave the really exciting stuff to you. When an opportunity arises to shoot down a police helicopter with a rocket launcher, the game encourages you to switch to that character and do it yourself, rather than letting it happen offscreen.

Instead of just playing through an action sequence that might remind you of a scene from one of your favorite crime films, you might get to do something closer to designing your own incredible heist sequence.
The Blitz Play mission provided a sense of the potential excitement that the three-protagonist structure can generate. The freedom to experience a coordinated plan of attack from the perspectives of three characters, each with his own parts to play, should allow for missions that are cinematic and layered in ways that significantly surpass anything the Grand Theft Auto series has been able to do in the past. The full-blown heist missions that come later in the game also let you take an active role in the planning, making decisions that will significantly impact how the heists play out. There might be multiple ways into a building, for instance, some being more stealthy and others being more confrontational.
For the bigger jobs, you'll also be able to build out your crew beyond just the three core protagonists, perhaps hiring additional drivers or other specialists who have their own skill levels and who take a cut of the overall score that's proportionate to their skills. Will you go with cheap help who take a smaller cut but might botch the job, or will you put together a costly but skillful group of seasoned professionals? Instead of just playing through an action sequence that might remind you of a scene from one of your favorite crime films, you might get to do something closer to designing your own incredible heist sequence. Eat your heart out, Michael Mann. (http://www.gamespot.com/features/grand-theft-auto-v-the-making-of-a-great-heist-sequence-6407826/?tag=Topslot%3BSlot3[/url)

HAHAHAH on fat kid comment. Every fucking time a GTA game comes out I turn into this hermit that only wants to play more. Straight up no shower for two days, surviving on herb, cheezitz, and coffee. Friends will call me up like "Hey there are 1700 virgins of all varieties, free top-shelf beer, two and half tons of Blue Dream, and they're giving out free Lambos! Come thru!" and I'm just like "Uhhhhh, next time man, I'm in the middle of a bank robbery."

But a SLAP online gang war would be outrageous. Too bad there's no "SLAP color" for us to unify under, if we rock the blue, orange, yellow, red colorway people are gonna thing we're a gang of poofs.

that in and of itself seems a good enough reason

Really didn't like the last GTA, and got overwhelmed with SA and fucked over with a corrupt save after 2 weeks of solid playing so never bothered going back to it.

This however has me fucking excited like a fat kid in a sweet shop

If you still own GTA IV, put on IF99 and when this track comes on, get on your favorite road and just rip down it as fast as you can, if you make it to the end of the street and the song is still in swing, pull a U-turn and do it again.

My PS3 will do just fine. Or PS4...

Anyway doesn't EA own Rockstar? and EA makes Skate?.......... If they could make a whole new zombie game for Red Dead Redemption then I think they could give us some Skate in grand theft auto. Imagine skating around GTAV.

Naw, Rockstar is owned by Take-Two Interactive. If it was owned by EA then it'd totally be butchered into a yearly release with dlc packs for items already on disk. From the previews it looks like when they show the game it's all been on ps3 so I'm leaning towards that one all though I got more buddies on xbox live so I'm still not sure.

Rockstar made the old Thrasher Skate and Destroy game.  I doubt they would add that into their, now, overly serious GTA.  They'll leave that to Saints Row, which I'm surprised they haven't done yet.
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: formeitscrazylike on August 22, 2013, 05:45:46 AM
I'm bout to buy the rights to EA Skate and Thrasher: Skate and Destroy and make Slap: Ride and Rebuild. It's basically Skate 4 with no darkslides or underflips, added a way to rock fakie/disaster, and with the T: S&D soundtrack. It'll be out in 2048, be on the lookout.

Replayed GTA IV in an effort to quell my insanity in waiting for GTA V, forgot how fucking awesome this game is.

If you still own GTA IV, put on IF99 and when this track comes on, get on your favorite road and just rip down it as fast as you can, if you make it to the end of the street and the song is still in swing, pull a U-turn and do it again.

Been getting super hyped on the game coming out in less then three weeks. Anyone start playing them from the very first Grand Theft Auto? Here's the theme song, I think it was on GTA 3 radio as well. I've spent so much time playing these games I can't believe they just keep getting better and better.

GTA 2's intro video was rad too. (I thought the first one had one as well but I can't find it....maybe I'm trippin)

And yes, true that you can't play online til the 1st, but whatever. I'd rather play single player, which is 99% of buying the game for me, for ~two weeks rather than wait til October 1st to get my hands on it. Who's all gonna be playing it on 360 online? Someone start a Pals' gang, i have no interest in being the gang's head-honcho, otherwise I'd do it myself.

This, but I can actually see myself buying a PS3 exclusively for this game in a year or two.

It looks cool, but I'm kind of over that type of game.
Dark Souls 2 for this guy.

How so many people got the game early.

http://www.christiantoday.com/article/gta.v.release.date.5.amazon.ships.game.early.to.customers.pc.release.coming.soon/34003.htm (http://www.christiantoday.com/article/gta.v.release.date.5.amazon.ships.game.early.to.customers.pc.release.coming.soon/34003.htm)

I would still recommend you play it, its a great game.  By the time you get bored with GTA V, Dark Souls 2 will probably be out. And even then, you'll probably return to GTA V because playing Dark Souls is like being in an abusive relationship with a rich dude.

^ a lot of games are doing this thing where you buy the ps3/xbox version then pay $10 to upgrade to next gen. I know assassins creed & NBA 2k14 are doing that so it's a possibility, especially seeing as how this game sold a billion dollars in sales in only 3 days

I never really got too far into any of the GTA games for whatever reason. I played Red Dead Redemption all the way through and loved it but I kinda hate the mechanics of the driving in these games... I'm assuming it's just something you get used to eventually?

Like, right after the first mission you gotta chase down the dude on the motorcycle and I was just flying all over the place and couldn't catch him so I went up to the mountains and hopped on the cable car.

Any tips or resources for n00bz?
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Will Easley on September 21, 2013, 02:28:28 AM
You can't just hold down the trigger to accelerate the whole time. The mechanics were always kinda weird to me until I realized that it's better to drive slower with less mistakes than to haul ass and crash every few blocks. Franklins special ability definitely helps too tho

True, but I guess that the main story missions don't take up the entire game. However, I just feel like that takes so much of the fun out of the game. I'm probably not even going to be halfway done with this game in six months.

Driving is so much more fun in this than any of the others. Driving in IV was a chore, but I love it in V. Flying planes is fun and I'm good at it so let me fly some shit when we do gang wars.

Lester gives Franklin missions that involve playing the stock market. If you save them until after you complete the main storyline, you can make a shitload of money. The main reason for waiting is that you'll have a lot of money after the main story, and therefore can invest more during the Lester missions.

It's a crap shoot. It's usually a little bite at first, then in for the kill after that. The kill is like a little cutscene animation and there's nothing you can do about it. I know people have killed them, but most times you'll die.

The mountain lions are pretty much the same as in Red Dead, function wise. You'll hear it roar, not know where it's coming from, and then you're dead. They go down with one shot though. You have to go pretty far up into the mountains to find them.

Finished it today.. Bought it on Saturday, and haven't been playing really hard.

I think the thing is that the side missions mostly sucked balls, so I haven't really done any of them except for a few. The story missions are mostly ok, but I really miss an option to go on a lot more heists instead of the 3 or 4 in the storyline. And it sucks that you have to start a new game to be able to try out different options, meaning that to be able to try out the other solution on the final heist requires a lot of bullshit playtime instead of just allowing the player to simply restart that heist.

Hopefully MP is good, because SP was pretty thin and not really a 9/10.

Anybody else spot bigfoot during the mission where you're in the helicopter sniping the inbred hillbilly drug gang? i spotted him in the thermal vision, then when i cut it off I saw him for like 2 seconds then he disappeared.

I beat the main story earlier today but i mostly just did character/story missions. ima save all the strangers & freaks missions and general open-world fuckery for when I get bored. Ending was kinda anti-climactic to me, and i picked what i thought would be the "best" end-game decision but all-in-all it was a pretty good story with great character development.

I just played that, I think I may have seen bigfoot. I also opened fire because I thought it was one of the hill billies. I hope i didn't just murder bigfoot.

Might stop playing the missions and just online from now on.

My last mission I did was the heist with the Sub and the Cargobob. Where Trevor had to give back the item he got, and i lost 2 million dollars.

Anyone else drive people to the cult in the mountains?

Can you drop hoes and taxi passengers at the cults location? Or are there only a few mission specific dudes?

dunno the answer to that, i dropped the hitchhikers off, they had a bunch of audio and a lil cutscene just for them, so i doubt you could just bring anyone. it is pretty cruel but fun, you don't get paid enough for how long of a drive it is though.

I may not try for about a week. Given the insane number of people who bought this game I can't imagine things being smooth for a little while.

Is anyone else pissed about flipping around on cars and bikes/quads? I can't do shit like I used to in San Andreas. I used to just cruise around doing sideways flips whatever theyre called.\

Anyways, 10/10 game. Story ends at around 70% on your save file so don't think you have a bunch left to go, the last 30% is all side missions and stunt jumps etc.

Haven't been online yet but a homie was saying that it was glitching hard, might try online tomorrow. My question is when the servers do start running smoothly, who's gonna start up a SLAP crew? I'm down to cause some mayhem with the SLAP fam.

Have anyone done the Cult missions with Michael? You basically need to find their webpage (Epsilon something) and donate at least $500 to get started. Only did the first one, and the 2nd one haven't popped up yet, even though I donated money. But it was most likely a bug, since I wasn't even able to switch characters.

And fuck you Rockstar. I didn't buy GTA 5 to be a part of your online beta testing.

My shit is glitching real hard right now and I'm playing single player. Michael is standing below the city and can't move. I don't really know how to explain it any better. All the cars, people, and buildings (in low res) are above me carrying on with their lives and my character can't fucking move. I've reloaded the game several times now and it still doesn't work.

I dunno if you've fixed it, or if this will work, but it transports the character into a free fall, Skyfall   L1, L2, R1, R2, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, L1, L2, R1, R2, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT

Don't know if you guy have seen it, but I found a crappy rendition of channel street under the freeway, only thing that make it recognizable is the archway entrance and being under a freeway.

And my brothers online save was deleted or something and he said he looked online and a lot of people's are also.  Haven't effed with online yet because I'm having too much fun with the single player and pretty bummed with the problems at launch with online (and it's auto lock too, should be free aim so you could actually drive around without getting killed every mile).

Ya it makes sense.  If you wreck your car it just respawns a new one.  Cheaper than jacking cars over and over and paying 2500 a pop.

havent had time to dig into the online mode yet because ive been busy and i know it was buggy the first few days so im being patient with it, but im definitely interested in trying it out. As for single player, what are some of the things you guys like to do just to fuck around outside of side missions? ive seen people online storm thru some military base and steal a fighter jet which looks like id be fun. i wanna play some crazy scenario  filled with a ton of destruction and running from the police all over the city. can you rob places outside of missions on here?

Ive reached rank 10 online but all the missions Ive done so far online is boost cars and collect drugs for whoever, however there was this one job where like 6 of us had to rush through merry-weather security and steal a jumbo plane that got pretty hectic. When your not doing jobs you can rob stores but you better be prepared for the cops cos they're a bit harder to shake online, it helps to wear a mask when you do so the shop clerk doesn't recognize you when you decide to rob them again. The only thing that kinda sucks online is that most of the good weapons, armor, car parts aren't available till you're on higher rank levels so you really have to work on your character to get stuff that's easily obtainable on single player

1) Love robbing liquor stores/gas stations/armored cars. If you can make a clean get-away without any cops seeing you, feels good man

2) Go up n down mount Chiliad in any and all vehicles. Once you get to the top, there are some nutty ways down that don't use the main path. Easy way to die, but if you make it to the bottom on a dirt bike, it's like bombing down the gnarliest hill in the world

3) Pay attention to situations that pop up on your map. Solid blue dots are armored cars, flashing red and blue means you can kill them or not, but you probably have to recover something and return it to someone else, solid red dots are dudes to kill.

4) Just wander, there's always new cool shit popping up as far as strangers/random encounteres ojn the streets

Was always going to get Bluray player, so I got  PS3 + GTAV for a discounted price through a homie who works at gaming store last Saturday. I don't have much time with work & study, but I think I'll chip away at this game and see how I go. At 14% so far, and really enjoying it. Still get stuck on a few missions, but am slowly getting the hang of it. Have not really played video games since my PS2 got stolen back in 2004.
