I remember i used to have these black leather Globe Mojo's when i started skating. the leather was way too slippery and they felt super big, even for back then. Learned kickflips right before i got them and couldn't do them anymore afterwards. 2nd worst was TK stacks from supra. why the hell would you make a skate shoe with such a shallow groovepattern on the sole!? Anyway, what's the worst skateshoes you've ever had and why?
-
The lakai telfords, blew out in two weeks and the grip just sucked. Also the dcs munition ct, the heel stabilizer broke in half and would always slip out.

similar god-awful results with the hsu low.. definitely the worst shoes i've skated. i see the telfords getting a lot of hate on here, but the pair i had were decent enough..
-
the cons trappasso the sole started to fall of after 3 weeks
-
Worst shoes:
1) Adio Kenny Anderson V2. The toe cap was super narrow. Would cause my toes to bleed when i'd skate them.
2) Supra TK Stacks. They felt like I was just wearing socks. Couldn't skate in them, just chill in them now.
-
I skated pair of nike 6.0 mavrks and they fell apart in like 5 days maybe they good for bmx but definitely not for skateboard. I would never buy any 6.0 shoe anymore.

-
Emerica Mobb. The stitching on the sides came apart after skating it after only 4 days and the sole sucked. Shallow grooves plus a fake ass cup sole that felt like a vulcanized.
-
I wasnt a big fan of the reynolds cruisers. they fitted weird and felt weird to skate in. They were durable though.

Some pair of osiris circa the storm era. They had a solid rubber bit at the front of the toes - but the rest of the upper was soft. Every time i landed the rubber bit would snag perfectly between my big toe and toenail and wrench the toenail off a little more. I was poor, they were new, i tried everything i could to stop it happening but the agony continued until they pretty quickly got binned. Ive had badly designed shoes, shoes that blew out quickly (ipaths on both counts) but no other shoe has caused pain akin to chinese torture methods so they win. On the flip side ive had shoes that have been almost too good - gotten so bored of them (its always the plain ones) yet they soldiered on and i couldnt justify binning them..
-
A pair of wihte leather es that i had around 96, dont remember the name, but they were slippery and had no boardfeel at all.
-
I had one pair of black vans AV's then I got another in blue a while after. I hated the second pair. I think it was because they were blue. I've been sticking to black shoes to skate in since then.
-
osiris smoliks and more recently nike salazar cup soles.
both shoes equal to this but without the flexible grip and feel of toes.

Fallen Stings - looked like clown shoes on me and the grip was fuckin horrible
(http://members.shaw.ca/a51/fallen_sting_bw.jpg)
Circa CX111 - Boardfeel was so bad I took out the insoles and it did nothing, now they're my outdoor shoes (have the black/red/white colorway). Also the flexibility is bad, they still have broken in.

Lakai MJ3

What?! I found these to skate amazing.
Not that they skated bad or anything but the sole on my first bloods went completely bald in like 2 weeks and I got a hole through the insole and they barely have a month of skating.
-
Lakais with the soles falling off recently.
As far as worst ever I remember I bought these on a Friday and by Sunday I could see my toe. The seventh model was also garbage.

-
Savier John Rattray's. Really slippery leather, no grip, but looked awesome so I kept 'em.
Vans Rowley Shams. I had two pairs that I hunted around Austria for, and I couldn't wait to go home and skate them. That turned out to be a sad day.
-
Janoskis
-
1) Converse All Stars. I went through two pair the first two weeks I was learning how to skate. Maybe they were good for skating before the ollie was invented, but not now.
2) Emerica Mike Vallely's (1999?). The stitching on the inside of the toe was such that it would yank my toenails on my big toes up, and cause my toes to bleed. It's just insane that anything like that ended up on the market. I trashed them after a couple of weeks.
3) Vans Rowleys (2002). They were durable, but they were SO uncomfortable just as shoes, every step I took was painful.

Jeez. Yeah, that just looks like a really defective shoe. Granted, I haven't skated those or any other Fallens, but that just looks inexcusable. Like, there's no way that would get put up for sale.
For me-worst shoes were the Adidas Stan Smith skates right when Adidas started getting back into skating. Not even sure why I got them. There was no board feel and they just felt super lumpy and heavy. I had a pair of Lakai Jerichos that I've complained about before which had a sole that fell apart very quickly, but except for that, I actually really liked how they skated. Other than that, I don't think I've been too disappointed with any of my shoes. At least none that I can remember.

Really? i loved that shoe, they were awesome for me.
-
I'm surprised that the Bruins and Reynolds 3's are getting some hate, I love both those shoes.
The only shoes that I ever really hated skating in were Vans slip-ons (they were canvas, so that was my bad) and half cab pros. The half cab pros fucking ruled the first couple times I skated them, but they started hurting my feet really bad and rubbing them really weirdly to the point that I developed these bizarre callouses on my big toes and one side of my heel.
-
Gazelle Skates.
Its crazy to see just how much people's opinions can vary on these kinds of issues. For example, I loved my Gazelles. I know the grip wore off super fast, but after that happened to me, I just skated them a little longer and the sole underneath it softened up and became grippy enough for me. I got the perfect amount of board feel with them without them being so thin that my feet, back, etc. started to hurt. And they always lasted me a good amount of time. Gazelle skates actually are in my list of best/favorite shoes I've ever skated.
-
Adidas Busenitz. I was so hyped when I got
them, so devo when I couldnt skate in them.

The Circa CX101.
Fuck everything about this shoe. I got 4 pairs for free and anything free I thought was great. Wrong. Ankle rolling machines. Narrow heel and footbed that just turned everything into sprained ankles. I gave the rest of them to my Dad and he wore them when he went fishing.
The Circa MA20I'mQuittingAnywaySoHere'sAShittyShoe
(http://www.zappos.com/images/506/7150506/985-110711-t.jpg)
The MA707 was awesome. This shoe was fucking completely terrible. The sole always seemed too thick. Whatever the fuck the upper of this specific colorway was made out of - it was terrible. Some weird hybrid rubber thing. I had one pair of the black suedes and they were better, but still the shoe felt awful. I can understand why Mark immediately crossed over to Globe after putting his name on this shoe.
The worst shoe I've ever skated.

Maybe mine was a defect, but the sole fell of super quick and the ollie area too, I dont know.. Also, it was super unconfortable, I have wide feet and the shoe was pretty narrow from what I remember. I just didnt like probably anything about it.

These were just awful. Thickest sole ever, the grip wears down incredibly fast, the canvas/hemp stuff ripped in about two weeks, and there was no ventilation so my feet were always smelled like ass after a session.

These eS Keswick's I'm currently skating. Sole wore out super fast, no grip. The tongue is too big and feels awkward compared to the lack of padding around the rest of the shoe. The toe part of the shoe is too wide compared to the heel part. It fucking sucks.

I skated both the Supra and Emerica ones and really liked both of them. Maybe the white leather was worse than the red leather for some reason?

i skated the very first run supra had, maybe that is why. i have to say the leather they use now look nothing like the one i had.

Emerica Renoylds 3. The fucking heel thing like collapsed and felt like shit after only like 2 weeks. Second worse ever was the Emerica Herman 2. the herman 2s i had were fucking great, grip lasted damn long too and im stoked that they continued it on the g-codes (also a great shoe) - you probably got a defective pair or something, unfortunately
-
Vision street wear hi tops back in the 80's, gave me the worst heel bruise ever doing an ollie down 5 steps.
I don't recall the model but the first Fallen line (when DC made them) a mid top (half cab rip off) the stitching by the toes was terrible, I skated them twice and gave them away.
88 Kristian Svitak model super no grip.
-
All vulcanized shoes - every pair I have I have owned had the sole blow out within 2 weeks. I have had 5 pairs maybe and will never get another again.
-
Right Now I have the Lakai Guy XLKs, and they are pretty shitty. The Fallen Slashes sucked for me, lasted maybe two weeks. I had a pair of vox once and they blew out super fast, and I couldn't even ollie back then.
-
I'm fully over the vulcanize shoe trend. Wish i could pickup a pair of DC Lynx or Etnies Sal 23's.

Thank God there are people hating vulcs here. I thought I was alone who cant skate in thin faggot shoes like Era and than useless shit. Had ONE pair of Vans and that will never happen again, no fucking support what so ever, hate them. I need something like éS Accel, fat tongue, great shape and thick layer around my feet. Im a skateboarder, not a balett dancer, I need support and a shoe that lasts at least two months. Last shoe, Koston one, lakai remake lasted me five months. Thats a shoe! A fucking thin cloth melted into a rubber sole is not.
To answer the question, Vans Old Schools, junk. How people skate shoes this thin (Era, Janoskis, etc) is beyond me. But Im sure that five years from now, the real skate shoes will be back. I think Kalis said that DC could not give him new shoe because the market demands 70 dollar slip ons so we have to wait. My problem with this is that its is near damn impossible to find a real skate shoe like Accel in shops because idiots want nothing but Vans and even worse Converse. Even Fallen Chiefs are gone. So you stand there like an dumbass and hope to maybe find a fucking Circa 208 I would not touch a couple of years ago. Dark days for us 90s shoe skaters. I cant skate in stupid Chuck Taylors which last two days, flat out refuse.
-
i think fallen has some stuff out like the bomber or rival or one of the ISUCK!-pro models that resemble "old" skateshoes.
i totally understand the "durability"-argument, but if i have to choose a shoe that lasts 3 weeks but gives me great boardfeel, i will choose it over a bulky shoe. maybe in a few years, when my ass is 30 and my feet are ruined, i will realize that i was an idiot. we?ll see.

I have currently some fallen bomber tony cervantes colorways and they are so bad. In the shop they looked fine but the moment I put them on and stepped on my skateboard I knew something was wrong. The heels were 2 different sizes so one foot just slipped in and out of them and the other foot stayed in fine. One of the pads inside the shoe was to long so it pushed my heel up even higher than I wanted it. everything about it is too slippery and the sides of the shoe are turning blue because im scraping off the badly put on paint on the top.

Well, Im just gonna turn 22 in two weeks, and started skating in 2002 or sometime around there, but I agree 100%, fuck Vulc and all this stupid Vans trend. I want my Emerica Heretics back.
-
Cant understand people hating on campus vulcs, some of the best shoes i've had.
from what ive heard, they vary alot from pair to pair

Going as far as to call them "faggot" shoes is just stupid. For what I do, vulc soles work fine and I prefer the better board feel. I guess I just do "faggot" skating...
Era's and Old Schools aren't made to stand up to modern skating, and All Stars aren't made for skating at all, so you're not really making a point.
The feeling you're describing about not being able to find decent skate shoes is exactly what I went through in the late 90's when you couldn't tell a skate shoe from a pair of Reeboks so I understand what you mean, but it's not like there's a huge shortage of cup sole shoes on the market, there's just more of an even mix of cup and vulc than there used to be.
If you guys don't like vulcs then don't buy them, you can still find plenty of other shoe styles.
-
early emericas with the triangle grip and the eva footbeds that flattened out real quick. and yet for some reason i still bought them.
-
The people have spoken. Vulc is out. Cup is in.
Sayonara, shitty ass foot-hurtin' shoes.

I love vulc shoes, for the type of skating I do (banks, curbs, bowls, pools, parks etc..) they work perfect, in fact I am skating hi top old schools right now and my last pair of shoes where hi top chuck taylors (non skate). I just put an extra thick insole in, shoe goo the sides and they are good to go. Shoes last me longer then most people because I don't do a lot of flip tricks or big ollies.
If you don't like them they don't skate them, but there is no need for hate speech or name calling, you sound like a fucking dumb ass.
You could do what we did in the 80's during the jump ramp era, we just skated in basketball shoes, you can get plenty of shoes like Adidas Shell Toes to skate in, problem solved.
-

this... but right now I've got a pair of silas' adidas shoe. they're good for support and cushioning and what not. I just wanted something different than what I've had lately.
-
I just bought the Silas as well. They might not be quite broken in yet, but yesterday I was skating vulcs and the boardfeel was so much better. At the same time, they also hurt my feet more.

One of the pads inside the shoe was to long so it pushed my heel up even higher than I wanted it. everything about it is too slippery and the sides of the shoe are turning blue because im scraping off the badly put on paint on the top.
are you sure you didnt get a sample-pair maybe? 2 friends of mine skated the bomber, and they liked them a lot. i would try to talk to the guys at the shop, that doesnt sound like a normal pair.
Yea I would talk to the guys in the shop but im living in china right now (no im not asian im american just moved there for a while) and i couldnt give a shit to pay attention in my chinese classes and so i cant speak chinese and i cant return them... good shop for boards though

Dunks, Busenitz, Ronans, Silas, Ecosse, maybe even Mike Mos and some other Lakais if you really need "skaterowned"
the dunks have one of the best soles in skateboarding, that shit NEVER wears down. the shoe itself is awesome as well, ive had 2 pairs ina row.
i agree with what dude said about vans eras. the only thing that makes it a "skate shoe" is the vulc sole. they have NO heel support, ankle support, and lack durability. you can get some walmart shoes that will skate better.

I fucking stated my opinion, about shoes. Why do you feel the need to defend your choice in footwear? I dont understand this place sometimes. And no, this is not about "skaterowned" bullshit. I trully think that the big three aint got shit on "real"skate shoe like Lynx, Accel, Chiefs, Reynolds2, etc.
éS had more amazing models than those giants will ever combined and the boardfeel argument does not apply. The above mentioned models never ever sacrificed one cornerstone quality for another. Again people, dont cry my niggas. It is Slap, not skateboard-city, I can call thin vulcs for faggot shoes, dont enterpret it like an invitation to quote me and write dumb shit like "skaterowned" like I dont understand the underlying smartass "Im-so-over-wannabe-core-pricks" thinking. To those lamenting the loss of '90s style cupsoles:
DVS, DC, Etnies, Osiris, etc. all have a plethora of cupsole shoes. I think this is what most non-skaters-who-wear-skate-shoes prefer. The kind they sell at PacSun. DVS even has a few near-decent looking ones, albeit signature models from people I've never heard of (probably some pro waterskier, but look like skate shoes nonetheless). Sure, other skaters will make fun you your DC Graffiks, but if you think about it, they're just generic court shoes with the Rudy Johnson 2 DC logo.
Back to the topic, I vote the old Rick Howard Selects. Guys as old as me shouldn't be blowing out shoes in a few days.

Was that Kennys shoe or Chanys? Can't remember. I had both. The other one had a muska like fit and feel but were terrible for skating, the heliums had koston 2 like quality with a heel that was about 4 inches off the ground.
-
i had a pair of the cons cts, the actual skate ones, all suede. shoe had a hole in the side by the 3rd time i skated them, also hated the shape and the rubber where you flick has a weird shitty pattern

you must have had a defective pair, mine have lasted for a long time
-
2-3 weeks is still pretty bad
it's all relative to how much skating you're doing. if i skated everyday allday again(stoopid work) i could blow out a pair of shoes in 1-2 weeks, a deck in a few days(week tops), wheels in two weeks, and trucks in a month. if you aren't skating over five hours a day straight, flip trick after flip trick, trying to learn tricks, etc and you're cruising around then 2-3 weeks would be pretty bad
worst shoes i ever had have to be the lakai manchester. for a shoe that looked as good and had as much hype as it did, the shoe completely sucked. both shoes were blown out on the sides and the sole fell apart in chunks. that's the first and only time i've ever skated a pair of lakai's. i probably never will skate another pair
the dc truths were pretty bad for me. they felt too stiff and bulky and the sole was too thick and hard. the air bags also popped
i'll never skate a pair of bruins again after i broke my foot in them, but that's a mental thing
-
My AV6's lasted mad long.
mine did too, i only chucked em because they got submerged in mud
-
Fallen Clippers sucked major ass ripped in 3 weeks.
-
eS Accelerates. Heel fell out after a week of skating them.
-
dear god there are some ugly ass shoes in this thread
-
Etnies Mikey Taylor 2, straight garbage. I dont even think he skated this shoe ever, the sole was almost convex. Absolutely no boardfeel even though its vulc.

i know a lot of people won't agree, but i just cant get down with my busenitz or ronans. i enjoy wearing them around though

I liked Ronans, but Busenitz were god awful for me.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of the Busenitz. How high the Heel was made it weird.
-
I vote the old Rick Howard Selects. Guys as old as me shouldn't be blowing out shoes in a few days.
They were great to skate in and looked good too, until half of my foot popped out from the side.
Still tried to get a new pair but couldn't find them anywhere.
Circa Thomas JT 204 tributes. The soles split in two down the middle, before i even had really skated them.
-
The Hsu 2 fusions for me. No board feel, as much as i skated in them they were always stiff, and the sole detached after a week and a half. Fugg Emerica ill stick to my vans.

Have to agree 100%. Was psyched on them in the beginning because it was a vans era alternative. Got super soggy really quick and didn't have that grip at all. Was one of the first shoes i just stopped skating and just threw away. I usually will skate a bad shoe out of pride, but not those.

lakai manchester selects. No grip and a really odd shape to the shoe. They were pretty comfortable until you tried to skate them.
Vans Chukka Low. Comfortable and grippy and everything but the lace eyelet panel tears off in about 3 days

their and dvs's herringbone vulc is probably the least durable outsole ever. new models will come with a thicker herringbone pattern wich hopefully lasts longer

worst shoes ever gotta be a pair of adios i had from tk maxx not that long ago, i think they were a mid kenny anderson model, they blew apart in apart a week and had the Quicksilver ROXY logo on one of the innner fabric panels
that and the ronald mcdonald colourway of the carroll mid selects, the whole @vulc@ bit of the sole just peeled off after my foot started hanging out the side, that was probablyh after no more than 20 hours of skating, they sucked.

I got two of these for free from my homie that's getting flowed by Circa, I was stoked as anybody would, but I literally had both shoes for two weeks and each week, they both got wrecked from the bottom to the point my socks would always be insanely dirty from the bottom. The suede wasn't as strong as I expected it to be, but whatever. I wanna give Circa's another chance, anyone know which Circa (or Combat for that matter) shoes are pretty durable?

I guess I'm not the only one that hated those. Mine blew out in about 4 days. On the other hand, I loved the circa combat Tre Highs as well as the Peter Ramondetta IV. They both lasted at least a month and skated amazingly. Get em'.

Dekline was the worst for sure.88 also.
-
Stevie's first shoe with DC was the absolute worst. WAAAAAY too bulky, grip was trash and stiff as a brick. I threw them up on a roof on the second session. Jamal Smith basically said all you needed to know about this shoe on the Stevie wear test for Village Psychic
-
Non sb dunks in the early 00s. Sole was so slippery you could land perfectly bolts and still have both feet completely slip out and end up on your ass. Even walking around doing groceries you would walk on the spot pushing the cart.
Upper was also the absolute shittest suede and leather. never happened with any shoe before or since (and I've skated random shoes from Kmart) but sometimes you'd try a flip and the upper didn't grip at all so you'd just do like a no footer (I did learn one foot Ollie's because of this tho) and the leather versions would also leave a little puff of coloured smoke when you flicked.
-
Circa CM802... fantastic to look at in their time, but oh man, if you landed primo on that recessed bit in the middle of the sole, you knew about it.
I assume they cut the material down there to make the sole more flexible, but at the expense of any real padding between the edge of the board and sole of your foot.

These things were stiffer than a college crowd.
Throwing in my 2 cents but CONS CTS went from being my absolute favorite shoe to skate to never wanting a pair again. Not sure what happened in between the sole switch and 2019 but it was noticeable enough for me.
-
ES Sal mid remake…toe cap ripped right down the middle after less than a dozen KF on flat warming up.
-
White leather Lakai MJ3 mids. They chafed the hell out of my Achilles and the tops of my heels.
-
some Converse skateshoes a loooong time ago. looked nice, but plasticy sole with no grip at all. just horrible to skate in.
-
Es scheme. Absolute moon boots
-
Original Penny 2's. Globe vulcs. Vans classics.
-
90s Vans Old Schools were by far the worst. Shredded through the upper and socks into my skin from skating them. No support or padding - painful to just miss tricks on flat.
Next worst after that would be 90s Lo Cabs or those horrible Hook-Ups shoes. Both were painful to skate in. Even the Adidas Phantoms I had that weren't even designed for skating were better than those shoes.
-
One of the earlier Duffs models that Cairo Foster used to wear a lot. Just the way they were designed, they always gave me horrible blisters on my heel. I would have to chill for a while and let my blisters heal, and then I’d try skating them again only to have the same thing happen over and over. I tried Dr. Scholl’s products, etc. but gave up. The first Duff’s model that ever came out on the other hand were some of my favorite shoes ever. Really basic, black suede with gum soles, but they looked good and skated great. I was at a demo in 1994 and Kareem Campbell, Fabian Alomar, and Lavar McBride were in their tour van and were like, “check these out, these are dope, huh?” (those first Duffs). Needless to say, I immediately ran out and bought a pair.

Every Vans vulc I've skated sucked. For a long time I thought soles bursting open and getting detached from the upper was just a vulc sole kinda thing, until I skated a couple of vulcs by different brands.
-
Last resort vm003 canvas that split at the toes from a few short walks
-
Sal 23 reissue early 2000’s, sole was slippery as fuck I even tried to sand it down without success. Emerica Westgate CC’s, went thru the sole in 3 days…

AV3
too tight in the front and the sole separated in a short period of time
They really did not work at all. Felt hopeful initially because the toe was kinda similar to Manchesters but nah.
-
I remember hating every Emerica I had in the late 90's and the first Circa Jamie Thomas shoes. I don't particularly remember why since shoes were pretty much all just bricks, but the Emerica rubber felt slick. I later had the MJ2 and loved them.
More recently tho the Vans Pro line, specifically the AVE shoe that looked like an Old Skool. Horribly floppy, stitching didn't last, sole delamed in like 2 weeks. Truly awful quality.
-
Cons JP Pro, those have zero protection (Zoom insole is totally BS) and killed my feet instantly!
-
What was Gravette’s pro model Circa shoe called? The Lamb? Anyway that shit sucked, the whole side panel blew out within a month. They were kind of slick though not going to lie.
-
ive had alot of shoes dating back to 2002 when i first started and i was poor so the shoes i had i had to skate or i didnt skate at all but i had a pair of d3 2001's that i dont remember skating in for long because they were just ridiculous even in the puffy shoe era so i think imma go with those.
ngl tho at the time i did think they looked cool as fuck. they were the solid black ones

I'm sure I'll be burned at the stake for this, but the NB 440s. They felt like skating in cardboard slippers.
-
For me personally, the Nike SB GT Low Pros. Thing is they skate fine, but they hurt for anything outside of transition cruising. They have basically no insoles with the tiny foam heel patch. With shoes like the 1010 out now, they don’t feel great.
I think if they tried the Ishod react insoles in them, they’d be better for me. The Ishods in general are more what I want from an SB anyway. Maybe someone has tried some aftermarket ones to make the GTs better, but they’re just sitting in the closet now for me.
-
I can't skate vans.....I've tried several times. Half cabs, Gilberts....the sidewall is too stiff and flattens my feet out.

This one particular Blazer. Seemed fine at first. Soon the lil piece of fabric covering the collar of the shoe wore out and I got cut all to hell.
Reminded me of when I cut my enigmas back in the day. I painted a house in those. Standing on that roof with the cut shoes was horrendous.

eS Swift 1.5. I wanted to like them but I ripped a hole in the suede on the first day skating.

Might be considered blasphemous to say this, but Emerica MJ2s are the worst shoe I've ever skated. They were like bricks and I got the worst heel bruise ever. I loved the look though and wore them as chillers for a while.

I love a lot of the early 2000's Vans, that time period when they started slimming back down but were still doing some tech cups , but I had such a hard time skating the first Greco shoe and, to a lesser extent, the Cardiel 2.
-
Back in like 2002 I used to skate exclusively Vans Rowley's. Local shop was out so I bought some Vans TNT shoe. That was the only shoe that I just couldn't get on with.
Dam I had the opposite experience. I really wanted the Rowley's but was still young when they came out and needed my mum to buy shoes and she wasn't having it like those look like the crappy shoes I had when I was a kid those soles are terrible. Finally get them and within one weekend my pinky and second last toe are completely out of the shoe and the soles worn to the insole on the ball of the foot. However long later get some TNT's and it's like oh this is what I actually wanted.
-
eS Swift 1.5. I wanted to like them but I ripped a hole in the suede on the first day skating.
I want to disagree with you but I've had some hit and miss experiences with eS recently, 3 pairs were excellent (Accel Slim, Accel Slim Everstitch Plus, Swift 1.5) but 1 pair had the sole split from the upper prematurely. I hope the 4 other pairs I have in storage don't suffer the same fate as the last.
Worst shoe - Lakai Koston / Mariano (can't recall) pro model circa late 2000s post FF. I was all aboard the Lakai love bus and got a pair, worst ankle roll of my life that ruined my left foot for years. Fail-tap was both the best and worst brand of that time, stacked team but their decks / shoes were hot garbage.
-
Vans. It's crazy people skate those things. No padding, my Achilles was sore, jumping down anything hurt.

Maybe Emerica Ratio back in the early 00's. In black though.
Bought them cos I thought the ollie pad and the rubber toe would make the shoe last for a long time, but the toe turned out to be synthetic mesh instead so it ripped in just a few sessions. Also the sole was stiff as hell. And they were fucking ugly, even back then.
Never made it through the ollie pad though.

I had a black pair and I loved them, could have been biased though cuz I loved all vegan emerica shoes at the time (still do)

My answer will always be adidas Stan smith vulcs, couldn’t even make it to the skating portion, just walking in them was literal torture!

Have you ever had a shoe you just couldn't skate? I have an about 4 year old pair of emerica "The Reynolds". I think it was his last pro model on emerica. The low version of these:
My flip tricks with these shoes feel great and transition skating is ok. But here's the thing, the sole is so thick that I can't do anything precisely. Like I have no idea how to do a precise enough ollie to do tricks on rails, which would usually be no problem. I feel like I'm on plateau shoes.
It's extra weird because I've recently skated the OG eS accels without any problems, but the emericas feel too thick for me. There's zero board feel, possibly because the midsole is kinda hard. Maybe because they're old? I can step on a pebble or crack without feeling it, which is insane to me. I've been skating them for a week now and they're also fully broken in from walking in them for months. So I guess I just have to give up and save them for another time when I'm not trying to skate rails/ledges as much.
They're extremely comfortable though and I really like how they look. Gonna switch to the NB# Foys, which are the exact opposite. Sole feels 1 mm thick.
So these absolutely great shoes that I like a lot, are kinda the worst shoes I've ever skated
-
Vans made a Huf rip-off a few years back- minimalist, canvas, white rubber toe cap.
It was fucking garbage, and i usually run Vans slip-ons.
So I was reluctant to try the actual Huf with the pointy toe cap, but it actually turned out to be really decent.
-
eS Convex
eS EK-01 - they fucked the shape up
Could not kickflip in Reynolds 2s
Couldn’t break in NB 420’s - wrong size. Anyone wanna buy some 10’s?

Vans generally. Board feel is bullshit and they're ugly and floppy real quick. There's a happy medium to be found with nicer looking shoes.

Had the Vans Ethan Fowler in white leather back in the day and they were absolutely terrible. Super stiff, never broke in properly, no boardfeel, the grip felt horrible, uncomfortable to wear. I was skating basically every day back then and was more particular about what shoes I had, for fliptricks especially, and just couldn’t get used to these. Felt like they were just sliding around on the griptape. Ended up giving them to one of my friends or throwing them in the trash after a few weeks.

Backed, but I can see exactly why someone would feel it doesn’t do any of the skate shoe stuff well. That being said, quality is the same as always, only reason I switched to Blazers is because I blow through soles on Vans too fast
-
if we are talking actual skate shoes... hmmm...
maybe DC Manteca. I actaully didnt evne mind them too bad they just blew out completely through the heel in such a weird way I have never had happen on any other shoe. my heel and insole just completely came through the sole of the shoe going down a 4 set... they skated fine though. I didnt even have them that long though (were given to me 2nd hand and im pretty sure homey only wore them handful of times)
For some reason I loved GLOBE shoes when i started skating. I was skating a fuck ton and practicing kickflips and varial flips all day so im kinda not surprised they blew through so fast, but for how expensive they were they didnt seem to last as well as Emericas or Es. I had the Danny Gonzales, these Brown "Mojos" that were actually kinda dope at the time, and some wierd grey one. after i spent $140 on the Danny Gonzales model and blew them out in like 2 weeks i switched to Emerica and those were aboslute bricks at the time. sure they looked like ass but was perfect for what i wanted to do at the time. Even Adio's lasted longer than those did. after 1 pair of those though i was also over them.
-
Two spring to mind:
Vallely Etnies pro model -super expensive and lasted 10 minutes
Vans pro series model from maybe '96. Can't remember which model they were but fuck they sucked. Didn't buy Vans ever again actually, even to this day.
Honourable mention: Gravis. May as well skate in socks as they offer more protection.
-
Almost forgot… Fallens.
Had two pairs, and they hurt the soles of my feet something terrible, shitty insoles?
-
Fallen Chief Mids - insanely padded even at the time
When Lakai switched up their insole around 2018 it fucked up the fit of all of their shoes IMO. Felt like cramming three aftermarket insoles into a shoe. So those were ass.
-
Vans generally. Board feel is bullshit and they're ugly and floppy real quick. There's a happy medium to be found with nicer looking shoes.
Agreed. They feel just wrong. Bought a pair of Half Cabs last summer and they feel just fucking heavy with shitty board feel plus my feet sweat like pigs. Also tried on a pair of Skate Lows recently and hated how they felt.

eS Evant (The Koston 3 Reissue) I didn't get the Koston 3's as a kid, so I was interested in this reissue, even though it had a totally different outsole (and obviously, no airbags in the heel). One of our local rippers had a pair and when he said the outsole was "okay", that was my cue to buy a pair at half price when they moved to the end of season clearance sale.
Disaster purchase. The outsole sucked right out of the box, and what little grip it did have, eroded quickly. Then one of the lowest hidden lace loops BROKE on the outer-facing side of my left shoe (I'm a regular), and since there were no other lacing options, I had to start lacing them from the second lowest set of loops, which made that shoe fit all weird. I was really glad I didn't pay full price for those. They were comfortable though, and got plenty of compliments, but could not handle skateboarding, or at least my shitty version of what I call skateboarding.
Also, the Vans Rowley Rapidweld. I was truly disappointed at how quickly those fell apart, especially considering how Geoff Rowley has always been one of the toughest skaters out there. I fell for the waffle's marketing there.
-

I had a pair of VANS Chimas about 5 years ago. They were absolutely shit. I've never worn any shoe out so quick. d3 #1 or whatever. I saw it I was like BLAM! Ugly i must have it. Was my 21st birthday 1999. I went straight to Copley did some 50s both ways probably. It was fine i remember being ok with the shoe choice. Was coming off some BoBos from the eccf. I was with my mom and my youngest brothers that day. I split and I chose to stop and jump down the lil set. Boom heel bruise. I was rocking those things for like 2-3 months. The Air bubble was def a lie.
-
I am bored of getting holes near my little toe so decided, against my better judgement, to try the Nyjah 3 and pettily black out the name. May as well be wearing Wellington boots that have metal plates in. But the kicker was the bottom of the toe box is cut away so I pretty much miss every other flip trick.

These shoes were some of the best made! Sucks they didnt work for ya @goodatmeth because of that lack of precision. That exact feeling is something people either love or hate about quality cupsoles, especially SoleTech. I love it personally because I hate having too much control/feel (Vans soles for example) and rather have some forgiveness in precision for comfort/protection.
Reynolds G6 that came out in 2017 (I think) were his last model on Emerica.
-
Fair warning that this may be controversial.
Vans AVE Pro (and every other Vans shoe in the last 20 years)
Although the suede is indestructible, I blew a hole through the mesh in less than an hour. It has no support or cushioning whatsoever, and is just an uncomfortable, flabby mess of a shoe. All Vans are utterly unskateable.
Adidas Puig (and every other popular model I've tried)
Same as the AVE, but even more uncomfortable. There's always a hard seam right behind the toes that digs into your foot. All Adidas manage to be hard/stiff feeling, but somehow still don't offer any support or cushioning. The Puig looks like the perfect shoe for me, but my word did they fuck it up.
Nike Koston 3 Hyperfeel (the sock shoe)
Garbage. They squeezed my feet in all the wrong places. The sock liner was supposed offer extra stability, but I felt like I was gonna roll my ankle just pulling up to the spot.
Just to clarify, I'm not looking for chunky, thick and super supportive shoes. The 1010 for instance is too thicc for me. The beforementioned shoes simply suck my taint, and you're simply just wrong if you disagree. You'd be better off tying a vulc sole to your feet with some shoe string.
-
Mark Appleyard’s 3rd shoe on Circa. I think it was his 3rd at least? Not sure what number. Came with a rubber keychain that said,”I Love Skateboarding”
The soles went bald in just a few days and the shoe itself lost its shape within a week. Pretty sure that shoe fueled my Accel obsession.

Idk what it is but I actually like Vans. I know they don't last particularly long, but I haven't found anything that works for an alternative. I randomly found a pair of the Wes Kremer DC's that were actually fire. Wish I could get those again.
I recently tried the GT Blazers but they didn't fit my arches right and made feet actively ache. I never thought much about how my shoes fit until I put those on. Had a whole madness episode about it. Liked the shoes a ton, couldn't make em work.
I asked in the "longest lasting sole" thread, but what shoe is similar to Vans Rowan overall feel/construction but that lasts longer and doesn't get "soggy" very easily?
ALSO has anyone tried Hours is Yours? Those new G-Code re-makes look rad af.

MA207, loved that shoe, right before his move to globe

adidas nortons. no idea how the reissues skated but the og 90's version fucking sucked. i liked how they looked but they had terrible grip and were ankle rolling machines

I wish I could buy these today. Now.
@ok I have two pairs on the Reynolds G6 low tops on ice in size 10.5
DM me if you're interested

I skated some Emerica Leo Romero's in 2014 and they sucked so bad. The bottom wore out so fast.
I think the gt blazer lows suck too in terms of durability.
I've recently been skating half cabs and Crockett Hi's and think they rule so hard. Might try the Blackout Louie Lopez Cons next cause I'm bored of vans.
