and it costs three whole goddamn dollars. just go buy it. i wouldn't give a homeless dude one dollar earlier, and i'm sure as shit not giving the same to any of you.

There will always be people who have something negative to say. The same goes for any thread about anybody though. A difference is, just like with people like Grant Taylor, there are some pretty hardcore fans/fanboys who get extra defensive when someone doesn't share their opinion.
I guess we're all supposed to like the same thing, that's what skateboarding is about, right? I know, that's not exactly what you meant, it did come off a bit harsh though. Whenever I see the "this guy sucks" stuff I think it's lame, but if someone says something like "that's good, but not really my thing" then it's pretty shitty to hold that against them.
Edit- Instead of asking for the ripped version, just buy it if it's that important. Nyjah is so close to buying his beachfront property, don't take that away from him by not paying for a legit iTunes version.

hahahah - i didnt mind the lil wayne too much.. although when the credits started rolling and they showed someof those tricks raw without music, i realized this part would have been well suited for just raw no music style.. i enjoyed the tricks more without the music
the whole thing is just hammers - and one or two decent bench lines thrown in for good measure.. the kid is incredible

Supposedly if you remove the DRM it will, but that's just adding a great deal of hassle for a lot of people who don't want to have to install a bunch of apple shit (or shit to remove DRM for apple shit) just to see Nyjah kill it.

I think its obvious that the ending was edited a bit, but its also equally obvious that he did those tricks both on the same night, and i wouldnt put it past him that he could do the flip backlip down it, thats kinda his go-to shit. If it was flip backlip first then 270 backlip then id be skeptical. But whatever, he for sure did both of those tricks in 1 night, which is fucking crazy...

It could have just been edited that way and still have been back to back. Maybe he ran up there but waited a bit before he went to do the kickflip backlip. It would be dumb to just watch a recording for a couple of seconds/minutes before he did the trick.

look, i'm 30, i skate bowls and pools, i'm jaded, and i also feel like i know what "real skateboarding" is, but this kid is unbelievable. he's a phenom. you might not like the culture surrounding current skateboarders his age, but they're the ones inheriting the earth and they are all fucking killing it. nyjah is their leader and this part proves it. it really is unbelievable. look past the marketing and the hype and the shitty music (my personal opinion) and look at it for what it is. it's a huge leap forward in the evolution of skateboarding. this part is going to be to a lot of kids what welcome to hell was for my generation of skateboarder.
and it costs three whole goddamn dollars. just go buy it. i wouldn't give a homeless dude one dollar earlier, and i'm sure as shit not giving the same to any of you.

Those are some hefty rails. Nollie backside noseblunt was my favorite trick just cause I haven't seen it done in awhile. Back smith was gnarly as fuck too.....but....yea there's nothing really to his style. He reminds me of Paul Machnau. Paul is not nearly as gnarly but they both are handrail slayers that have the most bland looking flip tricks. I believe there are certain tricks that look good 99% of the time. For example, almost no one can make a kickflip backsmith, nollie front feeble, or kickflip back tail on a handrail look anything but amazing and he does too. Besides some of those tricks...most of his skating...it's just not exciting. I don't know if that makes much sense but I'll shut up now. not soty

the gnarlitude of this video really sets in once you watch it a few times.. that one front smith on the huge white rail - where he also slams really bad right before the la jolla back smith clip - fuck - might be one of the gnarliest front smiths on a rail i have ever seen. that thing just looks like it would kill you.

up until this last year his dad was "training" him & putting him under extreme amounts of pressure. Since he was 10 years old, he was the bread n butter of his family. his dad didnt work he was always coaching him or whatever and was super hard on em. he's since gotten away from all that and is now doing his own thing. how you gon say hes not having fun? there were tons of clips in his part where hes smiling or laughing. you dont skateboard every single day & eat shit down 15 stair handrails if you dont have a passion for it.

man, some of us have been saying it for a while and there's really no denying it now: Nyjah is the best street skater in the world. yeah, we all love Busenitz and PJ and Daewon, but no one's fucking with this kid right now. straight up. no one is as talented at taking really difficult tricks down huge spots atm (and with that kind of consistency.) Chris Cole, P Rod, Shane, etc. are right behind him, but even they aren't fucking with his progression. dude just annihilated it and proved that he's unfuckwithable.

I am not a fan of Nyjah at all and find his shit boring. This didn't really make me want to go out and skate like other shit does, but HO-LY FUCK that was amazing. The level of the shit he's doing is insane. The shit he did was so fucking gnarly. The switch big heel and that back lip on the black rail he also 5-0's are just mindblowing. I just can't imagine eating shit on that backlip. Props to the dude.
While it lacked flow, and a bit more lines and all that stuff it definitely made up for it in the gnarliness and skill department.

You can tell Nyjah rarely is having fun. Look in his eyes and his reactions.
He has admitted it in interviews in the past. He was training not skating, always trying the same trick over and over again.
He admitted it all most recently in his latest interview with Erica during Street League.
Skating for him was rarely about going out and having fun and experiencing the fun and free flowing creativity of skating.
Ask him yourself, he will tell you skating wasn't that fun for him for a long time.

I don't know. I know I gave them some footage when I first got on and everything was cool. But after a while, they started saying things like, Hey, do you think you could do a Smith grind on a rail?? I?d never done that before but I was like, Sure, I'll figure it out. Whatever they wanted. I thought it was the right thing to do.
Thats how it started. I realize now that they were trying to mold me into something I wasn't, into more of a handrail skater. Not that I don't like skating rails, but at the time, they just weren't really my thing. But I did what they wanted, even though it wasn't the way that I wanted to be...

I don't think bought out is the right phrase, if that were the case deluxe dudes would win it every year, and considering the way Busenitz has been overlooked that isn't the case. Phelps just doesn't really have any legitimate criteria for what makes somebody soty, and is the only one deciding, which makes it seem less legitimate. The thing is though, back in 98 every magazine gave their soty to Muska, and Thrasher gave it to Reynolds, and thrasher seemed out of touch, but now look where they are, Reynolds is crushing the ender to the Emerica video and Muska is giving out TMZ style apologies, there may be a method to the madness.

My point was that looking back, Muska was more of a flavor of the month who was peaking with a sick part, I still think he's great, but he doesn't compare in talent to Reynolds, Reynolds part in The End was a turning point in a career that would become legendary. With more than ten years to look back, it seems to me that Thrasher recognized a deeper talent emerging. Just my opinion, and you are allowed to disagree, I'm just saying, when you look back at thrasher's soty's they tend to be legends, and a lot of other magazines pick the popular guy of the moment instead of the person who's skating actually has staying power, so I'm slow to criticize their picks.
I still think TSM picking Colin Provost over Chris Pfanner for year's best am last year is ridiculous though.

i honestly think SOTY should go to westgate ( even grant said he thinks westgate should get it ) - but the grant part drops the day before thanksgiving i believe - and it will blow minds - you wont see grant trying to 270 lip hollywood 16, but you will see some stuff that is arguably just as gnarly, and it wont all be transition.. grant represents what Thrasher is all about and fits the feel of the mag, and there are a million reasons he should get skater of the year.
2 years from now, nyjah could repeat what he did this year and it should be even more gnarly - he could win every street contest and put out an even more fucked part for element or whoever -- and maybe then he'll get SOTY.. that being said, i honestly wouldnt be THAT surprised if they did give it to him this year, considering what he's done. I think chris cole got it for less 2 years ago.. not that he didnt deserve it at the time..
the reality though, is that SOTY really isnt that important -- its one magazine and in the end one man's opinion so i wouldnt get too worried about it

I don't think bought out is the right phrase, if that were the case deluxe dudes would win it every year, and considering the way Busenitz has been overlooked that isn't the case. Phelps just doesn't really have any legitimate criteria for what makes somebody soty, and is the only one deciding, which makes it seem less legitimate. The thing is though, back in 98 every magazine gave their soty to Muska, and Thrasher gave it to Reynolds, and thrasher seemed out of touch, but now look where they are, Reynolds is crushing the ender to the Emerica video and Muska is giving out TMZ style apologies, there may be a method to the madness.
The reason Muska never got Skater of the Year is cuz he never shot with Thrasher, there was an article in Thrasher once that named all of the greats that never got it and why they never got it. Yeah they said cuz Muska pretty much only shot with Transworld at the time, i think they said sorta the smae with Jamie and and his being blackballed also. It's a really cool article if anyone can dig it up, also talks about why Gonz and Duffy never got it either but i don't remeber why.

I was mind-blown by how hard the tricks were, but it's not something I'd watch again.
I never skated rails even when I was a complete skate rat, so I tend to enjoy street footage more along the likes of Kalis or Busenitz.

The original comment was a couple pages back. I actually see the point of the comment in the sense that Nyjah's part was full of jaw-dropping gnarliness, but in this day and age where skating is just at an insane level, I just didn't see much that was unexpected. In a way that could be a testament to Nyjah's talent in the sense that he's so damned good that people has come to expect this kind of skating from him. Talk about pressure.
The nollie-crook in the beginning was probably my favorite trick and even that and stuff like the insane back-smith, rather than being completely blown away my reaction was more like "of course he can do that, it's Nyjah." Just saying nothing really surprised me and again, that could be because the kid has set his own bar so high that people expect to see this stuff from him. I don't know, if I saw Dan Nepscha for example kickflip backlip Rincon, I'd be more surprised. At this point it would be hard for Nyjah to pull off something that really surprised people. Again, just my take.

I liked the comparison to some of this being "heath regular". I tend to liken it more to that. heath was one of the first to really start flipping into handrails, and the size of the shit he has done is barbaric. both dudes are incredible when firing on all 4 cylinders

He had a few lines in his part. They're sick and ridiculously technical, but his style is too stiff for me to enjoy watching him do ledge stuff. It all looks forced and robotic, as opposed to someone like marc johnson, who looks comfortable and smooth doing tech lines. I think he should stick to more gaps. It doesn't seem like he ever slams even on the biggest shit, like that switch frontside big-heel. effortless.

Stop saying: that didn't get me hyped and shit like that... it might not have pumped you up but admit the guys is on a completely other level at what he does.

This. While his style of skating is not my favorite, you can not deny that he 'changed skating' a little with this one. I remember when Sorry (and to a lesser extent Menikmati) came out I felt some of them set a new precedent where parts have no filler, only high caliber tricks. Nyjah has made it so that a video part is not only fillerless but also is comprised of only enders (in comparison to the video parts of his contemporaries that skate in a similar style).

even the few ledge lines he had were better than most. halfcab flip crooks followed by a nollie heel back tail? then i forgot the other line but its was like 2-3 solid tricks followed by a back 180 fakie salad grind flip out. he COULD get on that fully flaired type shit but hes young so he might as well jump down all the shit he can. by the time hes in his 30's (almost double his age right now) hell prolly drop some ledge part thats just as mind blowing. the sky is the limit for this kid

As far as I'm concerned, that part basically established Nyjah as the best street skater in the world. Even if he's not necessarily my favourite. People are often referred to as being 'on another level', but he genuinely is.
That said, he probably won't get 'Skater of the Year'. Largely because he's 16 and is likely to get better and better over the next 10-15 years, while this may be the last chance for some of the other guys in the running.

That tricks he fell on really had me scared for his life, like someone said earlier in this thread how long can he keep doing that shit? It's gets kinda crazy, on a lot of those falls you could break your neck , smash your face open, ooze out your brains. He just got back up though and did the tricks. It's fuckin crazy, I've always thought the stuntmen like that were a little crazy in the head or half retarted, but hey that's fucken sick to throw your carcass down shit. big cajones, go huge or go home...fuck you larry ledgedancer.Just kidding, I'm into both stuntman and tech but theres a limit for me, theres got to be! Almost every trick has shock value and I like that. I can't comprehend skating shit that big and doing tech tricks to boot. Get's me so hyped to see dudes just go for it like that. Kudos to Nyjah, shit was crazy.

I can think of a bunch. Duffel's style has gotten way better over the years as he's filled out. I thought Torey's style looked really awkward back in the Skatemore days, but he's one of my favorites to watch now.
I thought Nyjah has some really stylish moments in this vid. His landings look so relaxed and almost "surfy" sometimes, which is astounding when you realize what he's doing and how much impact he's absorbing. I think some of you have never tried skating big shit - or you're forgetting how much is involved in doing it.

"OH SHIT!" moments can't be calculated into any formula, they take you by surprise and you're left reeling. Good skateboarding doesn't have to be boring.
I bought and watched it because I like watching good skateboarding. Nyjah is fucking good, there's no doubt about that what so ever. It's mostly my fault for putting so much stock in to the hype machine. The kid is fucking gnarly. When people are saying "THIS WILL CHANGE SKATEBOARDING!"(not a direct quote) and shit like that, I got my hopes up for some super sick shit. Granted, I can't do even a quarter of the shit Nyjah did in his video, but I got more enjoyment out of watching Albert Nyberg's recruit on the Berrics. Nyberg's tricks were sloppy as hell and some might even say they were dork tricks, or just plain ugly, but at least it was exciting to watch and it kept a smile on my face. I got no enjoyment out of watching Nyjah skate. It was like watching him work. It was kind of boring.
After a certain point I just felt bombasted with huge stairs and rails. It was like the early '00s all over again. I liked Torey Pudwill's "Big Bang" a lot more than this as well. There was more variety. Torie skated fast, did crazy tricks and I felt the urge to go skate after watching it. With Nyjah's part it felt like I was watching a whole "production".
It felt like the video was wanting me to be wowed, and say "oh shit!" every time he landed something. Shit, I watched two of the street league stops, I know the kid can throw down the hammer. I know he's got balls enough to try some crazy shit.
He had some gnarly slams, and a bunch of really sick lands. But I already know that Nyjah is a beast, so I was bored. That's all. I paid for it, and I'm sure he will get a certain percentage of that $2.99, so whatevs dude. He made it, I bought it, I can't un-buy it. I'm not complaining, or mourning the loss of three dollars.

Do you honestly think nyjah couldnt put out a equally long video full of ledge line hammers, or manny hammers, or whatever the fuck he wants. The only type of part i could doubt nyjah putting out is a tranny part, but the same way you say skateboarding isnt just about dropping hammers, i can say theres more to skateboarding than just skating tranny. If your gonna hate nyjah because his parts are mostly hammer tricks and lack a variety between different aspects of skateboarding, you then should equally hate all tranny/pool skaters because most of their parts are also 90% park tranny, with the rare exception of some skaters who mix tranny/street together.
I highly doubt you hate all tranny skaters though because that would be fucking stupid. If some people like to skate tranny and bowls and all that, then thats cool. If they enjoy that aspect of skateboarding then who am i to say that they should be skating more sets/rails or doing manual tricks. Skaters skate whatever the fuck they want to skate. That being said, what makes you think nyjah doesnt enjoy skating sets/rails. theres tons of people that skate just those obstacles and enjoy skateboarding, what makes you think nyjah doesnt?
Theres actually alot less to skating then you think. skating is about doing whatever the fuck you want.

^^^Definitely agree with what you said. Hating on his part is just as bad as COTG hating on some tranny video part. If you respect one end of skating, you have to respect the other. And I know there are parts that will make you want to skate but there are parts you just have to appreciate because it is really fucking good. When people saw Reynolds' Stay Gold part, did it make people want to skate too? Half of the shit he did, no one can relate to since a lot of his stuff was hammers too.

Hahaha...yikes! I haven't said anything negative about Nyjah at all and you're still jumping to his defense. I actually really like his part. The fact that he's as young as he is he and that good blows me away. But there's still more to skating then hammers.
Take tranny skating for instance. You got someone like Bob Burnquist who is all the about the tranny hammers. I'm not saying he sucks...the dude is outta this world good. But you see some of those guys who aren't doing the craziest tricks, but are putting together a 12 trick line all over a huge bowl (I'm sure Bob can do that too, you just don't see it much in his parts). I know that can sometimes be more difficult then getting that one amazing trick.
This is why although I really like Nyjah's part, (and I really do...I was not a fan last week, but I'm pretty damn impressed now and definitely hyped to see where he's gonna go) when people say he's THE BEST STREET SKATER IN THE WORLD I can't agree. Dude can drop hammers like no other, but can he throw together lines like Busenitz?? Or skate any spot you take him to? Nyjah's skating is still fairly one dimensional, and that's not an insult, because at 16 he's already better than probably anyone else at what he does. But he still has lots of room to grow. Which I'm sure he will. Which is why I'm hyped on him now. Not because of what he did, but because of how good he could still get.

This whole "he just added a few stairs, to other people's tricks" argument is ridiculous. By that logic, Pat Duffy only added a few stairs to what Gonz was doing back in the day. I challenge you to bring your gnarliest trick to the local handrail and add 10 or 12 stairs to it. Then you can tell me how "there's not much difference," or "it's not much more difficult."
This little due just made some serious innovations in skateboarding with this part. (Not sure how he'll ever top it.)
Also, in this day in age it's nearly impossible to change skateboarding the way Video Days or Questionable did in the past.
Sadly, almost everything has ABD.

If there is nothing special about adding a couple stairs or feet to the tricks, what's so special about going fast and doing standard tricks?
This part was way sicker than I imagined. I knew he would wreck some spots, but I had no idea it was going to be banger after banger. He didn't have a lot of lines, but I feel like he is going to start incorporating more of those in future parts. He has the talent for them.

despite the typical east coaster's chagrin i was stoked it was so heavily SoCal concentrated. dylan's part comes to mind but...trips to china/spain etc spot porn aside, respect shouldn't be denied for the majority of those spots being major busts and whatever ninja/assassin like behavior that entails skating/dominating them. if there was a token transition trick in this part it would have seemed contrived; kid was on a righteous mission fueled beyond his progression from said departure from his dad's repression, family dynamic/industry expectations etc. the defensive line just watched him effortlessly leap over them and run for an 80yard touch down.
