Title: How has SLAP affected your real life skating?
Post by: DaSk8D00D on March 04, 2012, 07:25:42 PM
I've noticed that I've gotten alot of new gear recently based off of different deals & reviews ive seen from posting on here & i really just sat back and realized that something so simple like being ona message board had actually influenced (in one way or another) my everyday skating. Has anybody else noticed that or felt the same way? Discuss.

I dont know if SLAP has any correlation to this, but when I play games of SKATE these days against kids, I do my simple tricks fucking fast and make them skate fast also. If they dont, I tell them I'll pour my water bottle all over their new deck. Works everytime.

SLAP's brought out the assclown in me.

Mainly just buying gear from the shoes and gear thread. That and thinking about what certain posters would say about certain things, ie Grim, Gipper, or Hate!

It has influenced my skating in the way that it gives you good conversation starters with friends at the shop or park or spot, and facilitates good skate-related shit-shooting, which builds for a fun session and male-non-gay-bonding non homo and stuff dawg im soooo straight.  I love talking the intricacies of the act of skating, and the industry silliness, with dudes who know their shit.

Also, I jack off to soooo many pictures of Dylan Rieder these days.

Without SLAP, I would have never seen OIAM.

Without OIAM, I would've never learned that one of the most important things about skateboarding is marketing.

Now, when I go skate, I always skate fully erect (boner) so I can appeal to a larger demographic (women). I just want to be a marketable skater, is all.

dont even know what thunder bushings feel like because of bones hardcores

have more shoes than space to store them

actually started doing yo-shoves and flips sometimes because now i see how much it annoys people, and that makes me laugh

never take anything seriously, especially skating

always do something to my grip out of the norm

always think of alternative ways to hit spots before actually hitting it normally

I used to put my foot back on my board immediately after pushing.  Slap inspired me not to rush it as I realized that it's an aspect of your skating that really affords you the opportunity to express yourself as an artist.  Now I try to hang my foot in the air or to the side as long as possible.  If I really want to burn some retinas I'll announce "Hey look everyone!" before I do it and then proceed with my push to one-footed skateboard ballet for as long as I can maintain it and keep the attention of the onlooking admirers.  Occasionally I'll toss in a pelvic thrust followed by a stare-you-the-fuck-down.  This is purely an act of dominance though.

But it seems more natural for someone to keep their feet somewhat close together...at least if you're generally comfortable with riding your board.  People usually don't stand with their feet at shoulder length apart, right?

the only time I need to keep my feet farther apart is if I'm going to actually pop an ollie or if I'm gonna powerslide or something.

All I can really say is, don't make assumptions...although I'm guilty most of the time for quickly judging others haha.  Humans are assholes

I find, it happens because I push almost constantly, and when I push I point my front foot forward (like most people, right?), and the best spot to push from is a little bit behind the front bolts.  So therefore, my feet remain both close together and almost facing forward, this so called "hipster" stance.

Yeah, I don't understand, there are people in this forum with their feet on the tail and nose cruising down the street?

I tried to cruise without doing the fairy foot(feet kinda close together near the middle of the board) foot position that some people on slap hate but it felt awkward so I started fairy footing again.

Slap has taught me to hate myself whenever I catch myself cruising around with my feet in the middle of my board. Even though it feels fun, natural and smooth, it makes me feel ashamed of the terrible hipster I am.

WTF...I never knew slap hated that, too. This place has some kooky-ass people. wow.

I do that all the time, and I kind of feel like it's something only confident/comfortable skaters do. It seems like all the new skaters and kooky cruiser-riders try their darnedest to keep their feet more square with their shoulders. The real skaters know wassup
[close]

If you just do that naturally it's one thing.  The fact that it's usually contrived is what makes it stupid.
[close]

But it seems more natural for someone to keep their feet somewhat close together...at least if you're generally comfortable with riding your board.  People usually don't stand with their feet at shoulder length apart, right?

the only time I need to keep my feet farther apart is if I'm going to actually pop an ollie or if I'm gonna powerslide or something.

All I can really say is, don't make assumptions...although I'm guilty most of the time for quickly judging others haha.  Humans are assholes
[close]

I find, it happens because I push almost constantly, and when I push I point my front foot forward (like most people, right?), and the best spot to push from is a little bit behind the front bolts.  So therefore, my feet remain both close together and almost facing forward, this so called "hipster" stance.

Yeah, I don't understand, there are people in this forum with their feet on the tail and nose cruising down the street?

hah, I've seen people riding around looking like they're gonna no comply at any moment

not one fucking bit, slap is one big faggot

Classy, I suppose this is your passive aggressive attempt at letting everyone know that you and I are no longer exclusive.

Well you have a whorish mouth and the most obnoxious gag reflex that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.
