Title: South Korea
Post by: GadNZ on March 05, 2012, 03:51:50 PM
Hi everyone

I'm a long time lurker first time poster and if all goes to plan I'll be making the move to South Korea at the end of this month.

Any slap pals over there?

any spot recommendations?

I'll be living in the Incheon area but will be doing a lot of traveling around so any advice will be appreciated.

cheers

I didn't go skating when I was in Korea but I remember there being spots in the Meyong-dong area (I'm probably spelling and all around fucking that up completely; check the map below) and stuff along the river.
I'll probably be going out there again sometime this year so we should meet up and skate if you have some time. Also if you ever travel out to Japan (Osaka area) feel free to hit me up.

Sounds like a great plan.

I tried to send you a message but really not sure if it actually sent.

Bringing this thread back to life.

Anyone else skate in Korea?

The skate scene is definitely not what I am used to.  I feel like I'm getting vibed from other skaters every time I go to a park.

yo dude, where abouts are you ? I live in Incheon near Imhak subway station.

Haven't had any experiences with getting vibed out, my friend here found a scene with local skaters and they invite him skating despite the huge language barrier. so depends who you come across I guess.

Time to revive this thread again.

Going to be visiting Busan and Seoul in November if anyone knows anywhere to check out, or wants to head out for a session. Been looking into shops and shit but it doesn't seem like too much is going on in Busan apart from longboarding

In Busan go to the Busan Cinema Center in the Centum City Area.  There's a few huge steep banks that are fun and actual walls of the building itself, and one angled bank that has a lip.  There's a manual pad with a huge statue on it.  The ground is smooth and has a satisfying echo as you skate flat, but you're right its infested with long boarders.  So there's two other skatespots on both sides of the Cinema center, if you go directly towards the river across the street theres a half circle stage thats a pretty tall manual pad, with some ledges, and actual skaters session there in the late evening.  The other way across the street have roller coaster ride on ledges that are pretty hard to skate.  I spent a lot of time skating these spots alone in extreme humidity and walking home uphill completely soaked.

There are hills around Busan, but be careful there's wild drivers there that won't understand what they're seeing if they see a skater.

If you wanna go to a skate spot with a higher density of skaters go to Sajik stadium, theres ledges/boxes there.

Fuck yeah, thanks for the tips! The banks look pretty sweet. Keen to check these out. Hoping to just skate through the city as well. Trying to decide if I should stay in Somyeon or Haeundae - looks like I might swing for the latter if it's got more spots in arms reach.

Sunae Station south of Seoul has a great plaza with manny pads/ledges/stairs that you could spend all day at. Good food and stuff around there too.

Banpo Hangang Park is where that classic fat white flatbar into rock bank spot is. A bunch of stuff if you skate around that area too.

Yeouido Hangang Park has a big fountain with ledges/banks/bunch of stuff if it's empty. The flatgap that Jake Johnson switch tre'd is right there too. Again, lots of spots within skating distance from there.

Update:

Went to skate the Busan Cinema Centre today, shit was sick. Really fun banks to skate, and the statue you mentioned was fun to skate too.

Did get the boot after 3 hours of mucking around but I'm surprised I lasted so long. Headed over the road and went to the   stage which looks like it's seen a few sessions and met some locals over there in the early arvo.

All in all, really cool and definitely recommend checking these out if you head to Busan.

I went there this past summer. There really are spots everywhere you look.
Look up @jpfphotos on instagram, Irish guy who lives in Seoul, posts a lot of skating shit.

Have fun.

Don't ask that guy for help finding spots though, he won't help.

I really hate that aspect of skating. I always try to help fellow skaters find their way, and share the knowledge.

I'm trying to go to seoul and build up a list of spots to hit if anyones got tips!

It was really wet while I was in Seoul unfortunately but I hit most of the places Doyle mentioned in this thread, I definitely recommend them. There was a pretty sick park in Mapo-Gu near the train station (I can't remember the name, it was near the massive Lotte Castle Towers.) Runs for a while down the hill there and into the next suburb which has some nice ledges. But out of the way though

Bringing this one back...just finished a year there. I hit two different parks and both were fun and everyone was super cool. Timber is a cool shop but prices are insane but that’s to be expected. There is a lot of skateable stuff in Seoul (some shit is skatestopped) but be sure to get a burger at Old Rookies...its ran (I think owned) by a skater. Food is awesome and usually skate videos are playing.

Bumping this.

Headed to Seoul in October and definitely checking out that skater owned burger joint, just found it on the naver map.

Anyone know any newer skate spots worth checking? Otherwise plan to try and make it by whats mentioned already

I forgot to mention in my other posts but if you're hitting up Busan there was an insane amount of skateable stuff littered throughout Seomeyeon. There are some interesting spots in Yeongdo as well, sick transitions on the sea wall facing the road. On Cheon Cheon (Near Busan University station) had some cool spots too, and a long run alongside the river that had benches and heaps of unique little cutty transition spots. I'd check out Nampo dong too, there are some nice ledges scattered about through there, even on the tourist trails.

Something small on Seoul

Busan is full of spots. Best advice. Just get out of any random station in a downtown area. Bound to find a mountain of spots
