Here in the EastCoast, it's fucking hot man. Icould only imagine how it is for the West.
I can't stand wearing shorts skating but sometimes that's the only way.
But how can you beat the heat when skating?
-
Skate at night.
-
Get a gallon of water and don't be a pussy.
-
Skate at night.
Always. it's 106 in the daytime here in AZ, I can't deal with that.
-
You can't.
All you can do is just drink lots of water.
Take lots of little breaks.
And try to not get frustrated.
-
I live in Florida: here's my advice
Bring a gallon of water and a giant Styrofoam cup of ice water with a lid and straw
I stress on using Styrofoam cause that shit keeps ice cold for hours
If it's gonna be real real hot, bring a cooler and always share with your friends.
-
lots of drinks and wear shorts, its seriously so much more comfortable in the heat. i know shinners & cuts are why people dont really wanna wear shorts but personally i just say fuck it & keep it cool. like foreal tho, niggas be out here skating for hours in 93 degree weather rockin some BLACK JEANS. like forreal dog fuck sweaty legs and getting dehydrated. wear shorts & drink a ton of WATER and skate in the heat like you would any other time, although if its extremely hot out use common sense
-
I do not understand people that don't like shorts. You'll feel a shinner just as bad in shorts as in jeans unless they're super thick which makes it even more uncomfortable to wear them in summer.

It's more of a mental thing than a physical thing, it gives you a bit more confidence when you try a trick

Skating in the shade makes such a difference. Parking garages are essential.
-
Its not possible in South Florida. Or maybe it it is, but I don't want to deal with that. I wait until its dark.
-
I just got back from Kent, Ohio. God, it was hot. I felt like the only way to help was keep moving. Sitting down made it worse. But after riding for so long I could't catch my breathe!

Lots of water
Shade for inbetween tricks if possable,
thin clothes, football/athletic shirts are great for keeping sweat away
and most importantly...

its never TOO warm to skate here (northern ireland), but when it gets stiflingly hot i usually wear cut off shorts, ditch the beanie (causes overheating and headaches), tie yo hair out of your face and constantly hydrate. but dont forget you sweat out all your natural salts etc when you sweat that much so some sodium intake is good too, any sort of savoury food i guess

I definitely prefer the heat to scrote-shriveling cold. The following helps:
1. This one is probably dumb but I don't use the A/C if I am driving to the spot. I am sure it's just psychological but I think it helps me
acclimate to the heat and not have to step from comfortable ice cold air into an oven when I get there. Passengers don't like me.
2. Wear light colored clothes. I know Slayer is neat but when it's hot as fuck out a black t-shirt isn't going to help you keep cool.
3. Take breaks in the shade.
4. Don't over do the caffeine/beer. Both dry you out pretty fast out in the heat.
5. If you are wearing a hat douse it with cold water every once in while.
6. Smile smugly as you rip a nearly empty skatepark/spot. Generally shitbags aren't going to bother blessing a park with kookery
in the heat.
7. Hydrate often. Water with lots of ice helps lower your core body temp.
8. Play withcha cock and bawls while momma slices up some cant-ee-lope.
9. Throw a couple packets of Emergen C in your water to help replace all the electrolytes you lose sweating.

it burns bright here in Miami. Impossible to beat the heat, you just deal with it.

Over here there is a gas station called "circle k" and they are known for polar pops. Which is a giant Styrofoam cup with any fountain drink for 59 cents.

Would a sham-wow work?!
-
do A LOT of heroin and then stop, the withdrawal will make you cold and cancel out the heat
-
I love the feeling of fresh air passing through the half sleeves shirts in summer lol
-
To keep my energy up in the summer I usually go into my local grocery store which is conveniently next to the ledge I skate and take all their free sugar cookies and free sushi and hit up that water fountain. I might wear shorts this summer for the first time in like three years and go bald.
-
forreal tho it would seriously benefit yall to step up yo shorts game in the summer. its much more comfortable to skate in the heat & personally i prefer to wear shorts. yes shinners & small cuts can hurt sometimes but really its not like that half inch of denim is protecting you from that much, nor are you more prone to shinners just cuz you have shorts on. the only thing pants protect you from are those small, unnoticeable cuts on your calves n whatnot. when you feel that breeze flow thru legs you'll realize that it really is SOOOO much better to skate in shorts, especially if its 90 degrees and up.
sometimes ill even go all out and wear basketball shorts although its not always preferable for every situation. slightly baggy cargo shorts seem to be the most optimal way to go
-
Wordd.
Strictly shorts over yonder!

How do kids wear those beanies in the summer though?!? That shit makes ME hot.

It's all about the fashion haha.

Last summer in Texas it was 100+ for 126 days straight or something. Since I am also a non shorts wearer, I would wear light pair of chinos, usually in khaki or black. I also kept a cooler filled with ice and either bottled water or a jugs full of water in there. I also made frequent use of a sweat towel. And I would fight any urge I had to skate in D3s.

Basically it's about staying hydrated.

I ain't even gonna act like I wasn't one of those kids three years ago though. My beanie would be so heavy from all the sweat.

I feel you, sometimes things like that are just habits.

Backing this. I've never really been into shorts (not even just to wear not skating) but it's way too hot out for black jeans. Just went out and skated and it makes a world of difference.
Also, this is mental thing and maybe only something that helps me, but stay away from spots/park you know you'll get easily bored at. Nothing worse then it being hot as fuck and being at a spot that is boring as fuck, and is draining even in the best of weather.

I find, if I am out with friends I don't think about it as much. The heat is still there but "fun" and keeping your mind off it helps.

I like this. You can counter the feelings of nausea and fatigue with aderall and a bottle of cold pepto.
-
tonnes a water and a wifebeater, sweat towels are a must! i dont understand the dudes who sesh in the height of summer wearing beanies and theres hoods up wtf is that about man? i was at an indoor comp last week and ben nordberg shows up with a rolled up beanie and a hoody, temp must have been close to 100 in that place... shit is fucked up
fashion over function indeed

Bring Somthing that that can hold alot of water and prefreeze half of it, then it always freezing. other then that take breaks and sit in the shade
-
Indoor skatepark help, and spots with shade.

Texas fucking sucks during the summer, not too many places worse than here thanks to the humidity. Clouds disappear for three months.
Last summer I took calcium daily and stayed hydrated. I have a shit ton of hair so hats don't fit too well but I found a way around that this time.
No shorts for me. LOL @ the heroin strategy.
-
Lately our strategy has been: go to Wawa and get the biggest soda cup you can get (NJ STILL HAS 32oz+!!) and fill that fucker full of ice. Then split a gallon of water with whoever your with. The cup of ice is free and keeps your water nice and cold.
-
It was posted earlier but stressing out in the heat is the worst.
That's why skating hills equal automatic breeze 8)

skate in the woods or by a creek and do some spacewalks. take notes on were to find bubblers around town. use cuts to get to the spot. push like you mean it.. skitching is effective.cut back of power slides to reduce friction and maintain speed. Dont be scared to ask for water cups and get some powerade instead.

WEAR WINTER CLOTHES LIKE THOSE CRAZY PEOPLE FROM THE DESERT

Are you from Wisconsin? I am asking because you called it a bubbler instead of water fountain hahah.
-
I used to skate in only jeans and a shirt every day in the previous summers. I recently just started skating in some light athletic shorts and a t shirt. I got over the leg getting fucked up without pants fear deal, i skate equally as good. I bombed a hill in that the other day, one I'd never done before and i was flying. I almost died but i knew if i crashed i was really gonna get fucked up, so i stayed on and rode it out.
