this is for my fellow freind, we dont get to skate much anymore he's always working at ups, and i wish we had more time to skateboard , like the good ol days!
hands down, he is the best skateboarder thats ever came out of oregon or lived in oregon.
the dudes untouchable.
-
ill second that. i saw him skate a demo once and it was incredible, switch shove smiths and stuff. you guys should start a company or try and get in with that skate mental shit or something.
-
there was a period of time where i was really into matt beach, his pro-spotlight in transworld i read left a good impression of him on me
the skating spoke for itself
matt beach rips!
-
when i met him he gave me the impression of kermit the frog mixed with a turtle
-
oh yeah at the demo he did they had him ollie over a bunch of little kids and he ended up hitting them. that was cool too.
-
His part in Can't Stop was amazing. I loved it. He's always seemed to be just under the radar though, for whatever reason - he really should be as big as say Rowley or Carroll or somebody of that status.
-
I've been down since his part in 'Ravers.' Over the years he's had lots of coverage, and his part in 'Can't Stop' was my favourite that year. That bs 50-50 across the bridge is just gnarly--such board control. Those UPS guys don't make that much dough; with enough hustlin' even flow dudes can live phat. It would be a shame if we didn't get another Matt Beach part--and soon.
-
one of the most underrated ever!!!
should be a big big name, he saved this toymachine demo i say in springfield mass.
tony hawk should get his head out of his ass and put him back on birdhouse and pay the kid.
oh, and plasic bench nerd, i saw an old arsenal ad of yours in 411 #30 last night and i was laughing my ass off thinking about this raymond molinar shit.
-
we'll look forward to the chris fissel appreciation thread next week...
-
Yeah, he's great - I was lucky enough to see him skate at Vans Generation '97 in London, and was really impressed. Consistent, stylish, technical - everything you could really want. Definitely want to see another full part from him before he disappears from the scene...
-
bwaa! matt rips!
plastic bench, do you still skate plastic bench? it's right by the house but i never think to go there.
we'll look forward to the chris fissel appreciation thread next week...
-
oh yeah, plastic, your avatar, i was there when drehobl did his buttslap to fakie at the dept. it took him about three or four tries with a cig, of course. great think demo.
-
matt beach is one of the greats.
but matt working at ups and plasticbenchnerd not even skating full time thats what i call a waste of talent.
i guess the industry can be a filthy bitch but you should take advise from Guile and start your own shit, a wood company, team as follows, beach, fortune, mikey chin and javier sarmiento. if theres still a tiny bit of hope left for the world of skatebording that shit would fly off the shelves.
-
that'd be a sick lineup.
-
When I think of underrated, Matt Beach is the first guy that comes to mind. Or second. He's way up there and has stayed under the radar somehow. How's a dude like Willy Santos rise to the top of a team (at the time) and Matt Beach not? Scandalous.

seriously
-
yeah, thanks for all the kind words ,
but what i meant to do with this thread is hope that people could start posting some of matt's parts and maybe some sick photos if anyone has them,
im living out of a box right now and i cant find my copy of "cant stop" and the only thing i have found on the internet is old birdhouse footy, anyone have his 411 profile? that shit was off the charts!
-
its from the same issue as this http://youtube.com/watch?v=qOJNlaUZfhM
someone has to put that shit up.
-
matt beach is truly an original veteran
SOMEONE HOOK THAT MOTHERFUCKER UP
his skill can t be denied, never tried to fit in, this man s an icon and noone seems to care, what a shame!!!
-
Sorry if I missed something, but is bench nerd Jamie Fortune?
I think there should be a company with all the `forgotten legends´ that just dissapeared from skateboarding. I would hook up Lavar Mc Bride, Kareem, Matt Beach, Jamie Fortune, Shawn Mandoli, Ronnie Creager (although he is still in buissiness, but on the wrong company) and a lot more I can´t remember at the moment.
They all dissapeared before they could afford their bentley out off their paychecks.
-
I just watched that birdhouse part...
I didn´t know he had that much style. It´s totally amazing, even if he lands a trick sketchy.
I would pay him 5 bucks if he comes out with a new part. Who is with me ?
-
ill put $6.75 canadian into it
$10.75 if its matt AND jayme
-
Perhaps we should sell their new parts on ebay.
-
talk about a circle jerk...
-
i'm with commercial D, his can't stop part was my favorite of the year, and my 2nd favorite of all time. I think if he wanted to have made it huge, he coulda moved down to california and done that up. But from what i hear, he didn't wanna leave his hometown, which i really respect. Been a big fan of his since his early birdhouse days. Seeing him skate in person a few years ago, he exceeded my expectations.
Jayme and matt starting a company sounds like the best idea i've heard all day.

Ohh. You offend me on the internet.
Go and play counter strike.

I was about to post his Firm part. Wowzers it's so good. Gnard.
-
Love that Cove part. ^
-
My very first introduction to him was when I was 6 in G&S "Stun"
I later met him at a Firm Demo at Drop In skatepark and asked him about the ramp in that part and he said it was his backyard ramp. Such a nice dude and undeniable ripper. Definitely should be getting paid for skateboarding.

I have a couple of friends that knew Beach pretty well and I have had the privilege of sessioning a miniramp with him on more than one occasion. Amazing to watch in person and a very humble nice individual. I hope he is doing OK.
Every time I ride my bike over the Broadway Bridge, I think about that 5050 clip.

Matt was homeless, living in a tent in forest park for a good part of a year or more by choice, he has/had places, family and friends he could stay with but he’s got some mental health issues he struggles with and he tends to keep his issues to himself and it’s hard to get him to except help from his friends and family or open up about what he’s going through . When he started skateboarding for a living again he kind of got out of his head for awhile and it was really good for him. He holds his emotions in too much and I think that really messes with his head. I’ve tried to keep in touch with him as much as possible but he drops off the grid frequently. Wherever he is right now, I hope he’s in a good place. I miss hanging out with him, he’s been one of, if not, my best friends since we were 11 years old. His video parts have always been amazing, but he’s even a lot more amazing in real time. Great dude and amazing friend. I’ve always sort of thought of him as the john nash of skateboarding, but with a more gentle, friendly and subtle social awkwardness.
-
Actually, Matt might be more of a “bobby Fischer” than a “John nash”.
