Title: Good pants?
Post by: ThugWaffle on January 09, 2014, 06:11:26 PM
I've been searching online for awhile for a good pair of pants but I can't find any. I'm currently skating in Quiksilver Unions and Volcom Frickin moderns and they're perfect. Are Old Navy slims too slim? I got broken in's but they're a bit too loose for my taste.

I picked up 2 pair of Huf chino's on the 30% off day and I'm loving those.  98/2 so they have just the right amount of give and aren't too tight or baggy.  It's been a while since I've picked up new jeans though, I probably should soon.

I have some Fourstar slim straights that I really like. The material seems pretty durable, but I don't know what it is. It's not denim, but it's not like chinos either.

as far as pants that aren't jeans, I can't find anything better than the JSLV Worker pant.

http://shop.jslv.com/shop/pants/worker-pant.html (http://shop.jslv.com/shop/pants/worker-pant.html)

They have a great fit that isn't to slim or baggy, and a nice heavy material that has a good amount of stretch. I got several pairs because they look good and I can pull them off at work, and they are nice and comfortable and durable for skating.

They also have a slightly longer inseam which is hard to find.
Backing these 100% can't find a better chino, in my opinion.

Any pants that's aren't really tight or really baggy and have the 1 or 2% spandex are fine with me. I only bought skate brand jeans for the first time last year. The spandex just feels so much better than not having it.

I'm at a crossroads on this one. I love stretch pants but the waist always stretches too, so after 2 days of wearing them you need a belt.

They should make it all stretch except the waist
Title: Re: Good pants?
Post by: johnes on January 11, 2014, 05:24:58 PM
I only have one pair where the waist is too loose; Matix Marc Johnson's I'm not sure exactly which ones they are though ( but they are slim fit). They are my favorite pants too. Fourstar Guy regular fit jeans are nice as are the fourstar collective slims. I'm wearing a pair of Matix Miner jeans right now and they are a bit too tight around my legs, so I don't really skate in these. Of course I am a fat guy some some things that are too tight for me might be fine for others with non fat legs.

saw a pair of new dockers alpha khaki's in a thrift for $7 the very same day i saw that video.  they fit good and are pretty durable.  i just can't fuck with synthetic fibers in pants either. don't need no stretch, just natural 100% cotton breath ability.

Dockers? Alpha Khaki Skate Test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKTScr3oHoc#)

also, anyone know of a luxury brand that skates well?  been on maiden noir slim chinos for a min, but it's got to be too wasteful when they start to break apart from skating.

for jeans that are cheap w/a good fit, levis 513 all the way.

Had a couple pairs of alphas that did pretty well. Wasn't skating at the time but they stood up to my cycling abuse messengering, and the taper and inseam length were perfect for staying out of the way of chainring teeth.

I wear a lot of what you refer to as "luxury" clothing. At my age I find it a much better investment to spend a decent chunk of change on a pair of pants and get 3-5 years out of them rather than 9-12 months. Pound for pound I would say APC is the best one of said brands that I skate in on the regular. I've got a pair of new standards that I've been wearing for about 18 months. The great thing about those is if you go to the NYC store, and they like how fucked up you've made them through wear, they will buy the pair back and give you 50% off a new pair.

Skating some APC x Carhartts right now on occasion. Great cut and feel, but they honestly aren't built as well as either brands go-to models.

i usually avoid riding bikes in pants i want to keep, so that's crazy the alpha's didn't blow out on you.

that's interesting about APC too. i've always liked the APC x Carhartts colab idea.  I've also had several friends that swear by the petit standard denim for fit and durability.  i've yet to meet anyone thats worn the trade-in denim tho.

You can trade in any of their blue, raw denim models. It's just not advertised and dependent on the manager liking them. Sorta weird. Then they slang em off to some one who has way more money than time and wants the worn look for x2 the price of a normal pair. It's clearly a winning hustle for them, but it works for me so fuck it.  Petit standards are a lil too slim for skating if you ask me, but I rock em all day otherwise

Matix Gripper Twill are the only pairs I'll skate from now on. Perfect fit. Kind of like Dickies 873 Slim Straight, but they don't get up your ass. Also they're really stretchy and have great quality. You could get the Grippers in Twill materials or denim, and some are made like cargos.

I skate in the 511 slim fit by Levis and the 484 fit by JCREW. The JCREW pants are chinos, there slimmest ones, but they are great. Once they break in, they're gold. Yes, there 63.00 but by the time you wear through them, you will have got your money's worth.

Give them a try.

The Levi skate work pants aren't that great. They have this stupid gold stitching and have no crotch room.

You fags keep your dickies, I'd rather have heavy duty triple stitched garments that last 10 years. Spend $80 on a quality pair of pants, its not a lot of money considering you'll be wearing them for a decade.

Mountain Khakis make my favorite jeans, the original. Tough as fuck, triple stitched, crotch gusset, VERY comfortable.

I just got some jslv khakis. I can't speak for the durability but I now know why Wes Kremer skates the way he does. The most comfortable pants I've ever tried on.

Dickies work wear pants are hard to beat. They have a bunch of fits and colors, their cheap, and they last forever. I've had the same few pairs for over a year and the seams haven't started fraying or anything. That shit drives me nuts.

Nike SB Fremont pants are my favorite pants in atleast the last 5 years . Get em with a deal tho if you can, i got em half off (normally 70) but id easily pay more probably full price if i had to next time i need pants.

Also the Old Navy 5 pocket Canvas pants, their on sale right now for like 20 bucks (normally 35) for Xmas may pick one of those up today. They take a sesh or maybe washing them once to break in.

Altamont Davis Slims are pretty much my favorite pair of pants. If I could, I would just buy like ten pairs to have on rotation and be set.

What are some good fitting jeans? I'm after some denim that fit like Dickies slim straights, that aren't heavy or too restrictive. I tried on a pair of 514s after some talk on here about them, but they were too tight (could've probably went a size up, though).

EDIT: Just saw Sanka Coffie's post, but I'm not spending over $60 on jeans.

Once you know your size, slim Dickies are the best.

I heard nothing but good things about their pants. I read in an interview that their goal was to produce the perfect pant for the german market.
Also: The guys behind the brand are really rad skaters.

I stick to core brands...I think pant brands that historically make pants like Levi's and Dickie's have no place in skateboarding......

this might be the most embarrassing quote on slap ever

Thank you......now that I've had a year to reflect.....I don't think pants have any place in skateboarding period.....

That is one weird comment. They make pants, if they're comfy to skate in then what's the problem?

Levis never worked well for me, they rub uncomfortably when pushing and the crotch tears out. I don't buy either if their "skateboarding" product lines but regular Dickies are hard to beat. There's a reason skaters adopted them as their common pant, and in the early days it had nothing to do with trends. I have Dickies that are older than a lot of dudes on here and are still perfectly wearable.

For those of you who like a slightly looser fit the Vans AV78 work pants are amazing, super comfortable and really durable, and they look really good.

Haven't tried their work pants but I back Vans jeans, they're surprising good and easy to find on eBay for $20 +/-. Wearing a pair right now, older AvE model that I got for like $17 shipped, and they're my go-to skate jeans.

Fourstar jeans are good too. Light and usually fit well, with just enough stretch to not blow out. Also pretty easy to find on eBay in the $30 range.

My homie gave me some krew klassic chinos and they're pretty sweet. Lots of crotch room. Fit is a middle ground between slim and baggy if that makes sense.

Straight but relaxed? ;) I love the Kr3w Kslims... I have 5 pairs in different colors (one of them kslim chino)! I can get them at a reasonable price at my skate shop and they work wonders for me!
The only other pants i really love are my Analog remer slim. They have the best denim i ever tried... felt broken in from the start (that wheel wash thing is not some cheap mimic). Bummed they ended the skate program! :(

I'm 6'4" and I can't wear normal people pants/jeans.   A lot of clothing companies (skating for sure) stop making inseams at 32" and I can't fuck with that.

Same here. Carartt's come in 36 for my longer legs. To be honest, I don't need to gear out in skate-specific everything when I could have a session in PJ's and probably be fine.

I found a pair of altamont davis slim chinos for cheap online and everybody here seems to swear by them. how do they fit compared to say levis 514s? are they more of a slim straight pant or tapered and skinny?

Anyone tried RedKap work pants? They can be had for a pretty nice price and look good. Dickies just remind me of late 90s punk kids (Sorry Slap)

I had a pair of the Vans Redkaps. If I remember correctly they were thinner than Dickies and had a very weird fit to them. I hated them and went back to Dickies.
