I like how unfiltered this was. Got me thinking about a few things:
Pros who self promote on instagram too much. Or the guys who post every single package they get with everything layed out.
Alex Olson has been growing on me lately, except for assulting that old guy in cherry because he didn't get his way.
As far as favorite pros when you were a kid vs now. The Muska made me want to skate. Mike Carroll and Mark Appleyard next. And today's rippers Luan, Ishod, Wes and Walker Ryan.
Most rewatchable videos for me would have to be Sorry and Really Sorry. Watched Modus Operandi probably a thousand times as a kid. Vhs is so much better than youtube quality for old vids.
They need to quit talking over each other and let one speak. Good start though.

I liked Dustin Dollin a lot as a kid. I was surprised that no one mentioned AWS or Habitat videos at all. Only thing I dont like about Olson is that he tries to act like an old man that isnt in touch with modern skate trends

I thought the same thing, I'm the same age as all those younger dudes (17-18) and I had the privilege of my first skate movie being Mosaic. I was surprised they didn't say Photo, Mosaic or Mindfield. Its almost like its uncool to even mention the workshop now among the FA "cool" kids. I really enjoyed that whole show and found myself wanting to be in on the discussion and wishing I could give my 2 cents

I don't know any of these kids, but I know that when you have friends it's not so hard to live in the city. I shared flats in San Francisco and had friends who had places in the Bronx and Brooklyn. I know stuff is more expensive now but when I was 22 I was paying $400 a month for a room in a flat in the North Beach neighborhood in SF. I lived with four other people. You can work part-time anywhere and have enough for rent. These dudes who are sponsored don't have to pay for boards or shoes, and I'm sure they eat cheap food. Shit's easy when you're young, have open availability and don't have any kids.

Speaking of the Workshop, what made you decide to send in that first sponsor-me video? Did you send one out to other companies or what?
No, it was the only company I sent a video to. I dont know I dont really like a lot of the companies in skateboarding, but I liked the image of the Workshop. Plus Dill and Anthony (AVE) had just gotten on. And I was always riding Workshop boards. But see, I didnt really send it in. I broke my arm and was out for a while, so I put some footage together. My friend tried to talk me into sending it in, but I didnt see the point. so he actually edited it and sent it in to you guys. We had a bet. I bet him a board that I wouldnt hear anything and he thought I would. So I waited for a while and then Dyrdek actually called my house.
Yeah, I remember watching your video and we were all stoked. You were just this little guy with a big cast on your arm skating that one metal ledge. You could see a lot of potential from that one spot you were skating.
It was cool, getting a box of stuff. even those first two boards, it was great.

I've wanted someone to do a good skate podcast type show for awhile. Olson actually seems like a good guy to head this up. Knows how to keep everyone in line and on topic for the most part. I only listened to most of the first episode I think. I just wish it could be something where he has lots of well known people on as guests. The random/lesser known NYC young dudes seem alright, but it would be nice if it was AO, one of his buddies who is well spoken and a different pro or industry guy every week. But maybe that's too much like some other shows (weekend buzz, etc.)

During the second podcast some of the young dudes were talking about living in an apartment with six people. The kid said something about two dudes were sharing the kitchen or dining room and how the whole living situation was driving everyone nuts at first but eventually they got used to it.

the shows great. very consistent unlike the majority of shows that are done this way. i always wished skatetalklive would be this frequent.

I actually thought these last two episodes were pretty boring. They just keep talking about social media websites and fumbling around while acting like they don't know videos and skaters.

Not just Alex though. It seems like pretty much all of them are like that. We all know Alex doesn't really keep up with skating outside of his interests too much, so that's not super surprising. And I can understand not knowing smaller and local crew or homie videos, but Alex doesn't know about Sabotage despite Ishod (his Nike teammate) having a part in it and winning SOTY with that and three other parts? And none of those other kids know who skate for which brands, but know the names of the companies and think they're awesome? Come on. I think Ted (is it Ted?) is probably one of the most entertaining people on there. He comes in with topics to talk about, tries to stay on track and calls people out when they go too far off on a tangent, and keeps up with stuff. If it was just him, Alex, and one or two other people talking for an hour, I think it would be better. They seem to be stoked on the whole concept versus doing it just because they're at Alex's apartment at the time. Plus, it would be easier to keep track of the conversation.

Listened to the one with slicky and the july 8 one. Olson is good at doing this. The talk about friendster was pretty hilarious. Pretty sure I was calling beef patty MPC (most productive crew) before qs but it's so obvious I guess anyone who sees the videos would say it, those guys get shit done more than any crew

I get the feeling he does that to make people talk more. For exemple, if they all watched Sabotage videos the conversation would end there, but if he plays the ignorant card, people will mumble about it for a minute.

I've been wishing someone would have a decent podcast about skating for a while and Alex is doing a surprisingly good job. I've enjoyed listening to all of these. Hopefully he keeps it up and can get some sweet guests (not that the ones so far haven't been good, it'd just be cool to hear some bigger names like dylan or whoever).

Also I understand not wanting to throw somebody under the bus but when it came to alex perelson or something the kid says i heard bad storys i think thats just an opinion and guys in the studio (prob an apartment) where all like best not say that.

Never saw footage of ted before. He's as good as they say on the show. He's by far my favourite person on the show. He never cool guys anyone. Actually has something to say. Alex needs him. The hardest part of listening is the stupid answers and little inside jokes that the young guys say. Alex is getting better at calling them out on it but the show is disjointed most of the time. I'll always listen though because it a skateboarding radio show with guys like cyrus,Ted, Ben etc. as guests. How could I not.

Same here. I still appreciate the show for being on in general even though the last two or three episodes were better in comparison.
I listened to last week's episode a few times over for their commentary on Greco's Hammer Report; had me laughing at my desk at work.

Wasn't a bad episode. Like others said, it was just the calls that brought it down a notch, and that isn't Alex or any of the guests' fault. Like they said, have some of these people never had a conversation on the phone before...? It's not hard to ask a decent question that sparks conversation. But sadly, instead people just call and go "Hey.......... Uhhhhh......... *choke*.........."

In the Aug 12 episode they asked Mango about it and he said it was fake. He said the video guy is really slick with CGI and he put a few little fake things in the video. I think maybe every part had a little something. Not totally sure on that, but he DID say that somebody had a UFO flying in the background during a line.

I may be completely wrong here, but I always get the feeling that Alex is secretly super updated on what's going on in the skate world (probably even lurks slap lol), but pretending he dosen't know anything to keep his 'cool' image. Like when he said "that rock tour that thrasher does" etc, c'mon son. Could be he's pretending to get the guys talking about it though.

I may be completely wrong here, but I always get the feeling that Alex is secretly super updated on what's going on in the skate world (probably even lurks slap lol), but pretending he dosen't know anything to keep his 'cool' image. Like when he said "that rock tour that thrasher does" etc, c'mon son. Could be he's pretending to get the guys talking about it though.

Last episode wasn't too bad but some of the kids that call in... jesus christ. why does every single person feel the need to ask if it's skatewise? I feel like if you're going to call in you should a) have something of value to ask and b) understand who you're gonna be speaking to... I would certainly not expect any of those dudes to be overly nice to some kid especially when 9 times out of 10 it's just somebody trying to promote their shit or show alex something for his company.
