Title: Downhill parking garage skatepark
Post by: tkp on July 22, 2014, 06:20:33 AM
I've had this idea in my head for a few years. Figured I should share it with the world before I forget about it again.

Anyways what are you thoughts on trying to get something like this built? Converting a parking garage into a multi level downhill skatepark. I'm thinking 3 or 4 stories.

It would be nice because the weather wouldn't have much of an affect on it if it was built properly.

I think it's a great idea. We used to setup stuff in an old parking garage downtown that was super fun during rainy days.

I've had a similar idea for years brewing in my head but it's for an uphill parking garage skatepark

There's so many good parking garages where I live, so many would be perfect for a DIY type spot for rainy days.

one or two of the builders featured in the new issue of Juice mention this concept. It definitely needs to see reality.

They were supposed to do something like that when our park opened like 10 years ago. It was too good to be true.

is it possible for you to take a photo of the article of them talking about this? finding juice mag can be a bit tricky at times.

what park would that city be in?

this idea is great. the only issues i could see are the ceiling height if you are meaning that you'd build ramps with some height to them. Detroit probably has a ton of opportunities for this. I think that if you get a couple guys who know what they are doing to go in in weekends when the garage is empty and build some ledges in the right spot that look like they should be there then you could probably get away with it in a lot of places.

I always skate the parking lot in Skate 3, shit is fun as hell. It would be pretty dope to skate something like that for real.

great idea. low ceilings could be a problem though, especially for banks and quarters. parking garage constructors dont like to waste space.
