Title: Favorite Board Size
Post by: yourfuckingdad on August 03, 2014, 02:41:33 PM
I'm planning an art installation that will involve giving out a bunch of free deck's to people, mostly to you fuckers  :).

Just trying to get an idea of what the most popular board size is these days. I imagine it's 8.0 but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Just round to the nearest size if your favorite dimension is in between.

Thanks! Will update and make a new thread as things progress.

P.S. I remember when it was cool to ride 8.0's because they were a lot bigger than the 7.5's the great unwashed (me) were riding.

I'm curious to see what people say, but I suspect it will be 8.25 or above...

Just trying to keep it simple. I can't imagine that being the most common size skated here.

I ride that 9

8, but only because 7.75 is getting harder to find. I'm up for whatever though.

I like 8's. I can go either side of it but they just feel right for me. Even when 7.5 and 7.75 was what it seemed everyone was skating I was always skating 8 or just above.

So why not keep it simple and ignore all the other sizes other than the one you imagined was the most common size? What is the point if you don't cover all bases?

I'm back on 8.5" and loving it - now to find a brand that isn't so damn thick, is still stiff with deep concave AND has a fat shape (especially the tail) like Anti-Hero.

The boards all have to be the same size. I figured it would be decent to try to have the free skateboards be a size most people like.

i wear size 11 shoes and even i use an 8 inch wide deck, it may vary a little depending on the shape but thats mostly what i get down with. maybe its just me, but peoples pro models when i started skating heavily when i was little were 7.4-7.9 inches wide. a lot of pros still ride boards those size too (as well as low trucks and 49-50mm wheels) but will put out an 8-8.5 inch wide pro model just to rake in sales. the kids i see using above 8.5 inch boards dont seem to care much about flipping their boards around, which is fine but i cant imagine how limiting itd be to buy shit that you cant flip your board with.

i know theres no correlation between the size of your foot and the size deck you ride, but i just cant piece it together in my mind as to how people can go so wide.

Naw you ain't crazy, I'm the same way, I've ridden just about every size up to 8.5, and I just can't do it. I have to ride 8.0", I'm riding a 8.125 right now, and I can feel the 1/8" difference big time. I lost hard flips and frontside flips because of it.

I've figured out recently that the perfect board dimension (at least for me) is an 8.5 that is on the shorter side; definitely no longer than a 32. They just feel so much better for me. I started skating shorter boards a while back and had a blast, then I went back to a couple longer boards for a bit (32.25 to 32.5) and my skating and tricks felt kinda off, it didn't feel right. I was wondering what it could've been, but I went back to a shorter board after and it all felt right again, so now I know whats up.

Currently skating a board that is 8.5 and somewhere between a 31.5 - 31.7, and it feels so good for me. Tricks just feel more dialed and poppy. It sucks because most companies that make 8.5 boards usually have them at over 32 long. Not too many companies make a shorter 8.5; I know Baker and Deathwish's 8.5's are around 31.75 long, and it's a really rad feeling shape. Other than them though it's kinda hard to find shorter 8.5's. You'll find one every now and then.
