From his Facebook:
1031 Skateboards is going on vacation. We will be putting all of our focus and money into Landshark Wheels. Landshark has been growing at a very fast rate for us and is requiring our full attention. We are marking all of our existing 1031 boards down . So if you want to support 1031 one last time and get a great deal on an American made skateboard, get them now at www.Regulatordist.com (http://www.Regulatordist.com). All operations with Beer City, Landshark and Regulator Distribution are business as usual.
I will now be joining my old pal Mike Vallely at his growing and evolving company, Street Plant Brand. Ive been watching what Mike has been doing with this over the past year. I understand it, I get it and I am excited about it! Stay tuned for my new pro model decks coming out soon at www.streetplantbrand.com (http://www.streetplantbrand.com) @streetplantbrnd
Thanks you so much for all of your 1031 support over the past 9 years!
I had an amazing time!
Very sincerely,
Kristian Svitak

Mike V. is the king of new companies that never work

irrelevant
-
oh, bummer. 1031 has done cool stuff throughout the years. Wonder what will happen to some of his riders?
edit: I hope they can bring jason adams over to whatever it is, that dude needs to be sponsored no matter what.
-
Mike V doing another brand, does this mean elephant is done?
-
Press releases in skateboarding read to me like listening to crazy people talk about government conspiracies. Just something way off about them.

When you support Street Plant you directly support The Vallely Family.
Street Plant is a 100% family owned and operated business. My daughter Emily and I manage and oversee all aspects of the company. Our fingerprint is on every design and every single product passes through our hands on its way to you. When you support Street Plant you directly support The Vallely Family. We are not going through any middlemen and we are not just another brand under someone elses umbrella, helping to sustain someone elses overhead. We are completely independent. Street Plant seeks to encapsulate my entire career and creative output from skateboards to apparel to music to publications. What was, what is and what will be. My days as a mercenary or partnering exclusively with other companies to deliver my products or having my creative output filtered by others is over. Street Plant represents my vision, ideas and passion unfiltered. Thank you for your continued support on this journey The best is yet to come! Mike V http://www.streetplantbrand.com (http://www.streetplantbrand.com) #mikevallely #streetplantbrand
sad part is he team up with his daughter - you know what that means for you future relationship mike?

Mike V doing another brand, does this mean elephant is done?
what do you think?
he is doing simultan two company by himself complety based on is own person???
coud be possible... maybe there will be a collaboration soon...
some ElephantSteetPlant tour video...
-
If you go to elephantbrandskateboards.com it just redirects to http://www.streetplantbrand.com/ (http://www.streetplantbrand.com/)
He also deleted the Elephant Instagram and FB pages so I'm assuming it's done
That's why I'll never support this dude. He's a legend and has done some incredible skating over the last 30 years but I won't support any company he is running
-
sad part is he team up with his daughter - you know what that means for you future relationship mike?
You mean it's hard to rebuild a relationship after you punch your daughter/business partner?
But Mike's getting up there in age, so hopefully he's suffering from low-T, so he's just irritable than punchy.
-
wasnt jason adams on Elephant?
-
wasnt jason adams on Elephant?
Yeah, which is why I'd be bummed if it's gone under, I don't know if he'll pick up another board sponsor after this, hopefully he might even do his own thing, saw a six guns graphic the other day, maybe it's that

If Svitak had been paying attention to what Mike V has been up to this last year, he'd see that he was leaving yet another company he created after feeling as though he was getting screwed over (this one full of pros he supposedly hand picked and believed in) and Svitak would get that he's probably not the best guy to go into business with. Especially when you remember that he was supposed to run a company through Svitak's personal distribution can't but folded at the last second.
-
What happend to elephant?
It died by the sword.
-
yeeeeesh another egocentric move
-
Yay another skateboard brand that is hoping to capitalize on the nostalgia of old fatties like me.
-
anyone wanna collaborate on some fan fiction involving mike v and his daughter? 'oh [emily?] you look so much like your mother at your age. i stole her from jason lee and i'm gonna steal you from that college egghead you're dating.'
'daddy, you're so alpha!'
scene 2
daughter is dancing to peaches while mike v, unnoticed stands in the corner, bemused
'oh daddy, i didn't see you there'
'fuck the pain away, i like that message, sugar plum. can i have this dance?'
working title
'incest is the elephant in da room on powell st, as seen on television, whilst drinking black label and feeling out of my element'

Haha, does Vallely make this T-shirt? I hope he wears it every day too.

I'm going to make my own Mark & Natas & Tommy & Steve. shirt and wear it everywhere I go

is that the deal? i saw those boards, and they clearly say Elephant Brand on them. did vallely shitcan the website so Select would have to rebuild a site for the brand? vallely really is a piece of work. (feel free to substitute the word "work")
-
Shit I didn't realise it was that time of the year for Vallely to start a new company already, seems to get earlier every year.
Jason Adams still riding for Elephant is going to be a bit awkward, could well be better for him I guess if he drives the designs etc. The weird thing to me was I have actually seen some Elephant boards at the park so I thought they might be doing pretty well, maybe they were and that was part of the problem.
Going into to business with Vallely is the skateboarding equivalent of starting a land war in Asia, just don't.
-
One of these things is not like the other.

I think these types of companies are doing well. JK Industries and Dear Skating seem to be shipping orders faster than they can fill them. I would have bought his shirt if it just said Mark & Natas & Tommy. No offense to Valley, I just think those three belong in a different category.

Wonder if Neal Hendrix is staying with the Elephant brand. Total bummer because he deserves his name on a board. East Coast legend. He put out a great vert part last year.

How recently was that berrics slappy new year edit filmed as it had the kid, vallely, Markovich and Berrard all skating together? I seem to remember someone posting something from Markovich's social media saying he was done with elephant, or did I imagine it?

The press release on the Street Plant website about Svitak is fucking hilarious. Who does he think his market is, or what kind of brand does he think he has that he needs such an official press release with industry jargon much less any type of formal press release at all?

Re: KRISTIAN SVITAK
Street Plant Battalion / Ground Assault Division Skater
Kristian Svitak is the newest member of the Street Plant Battalion Skateboard Team, although he is no stranger to the sport itself. His name continues to be passed around the skateboard grapevine as being one of the most dedicated skaters anywhere.
Mike Vallely, president of the Long Beach based Street Plant skateboard company says of the not-so-young skater, “Simply put, Kristian is one of the most passionate skaters around. He seems to have stayed true to his own personal style of skating and maintained his own personal approach. He is simply one of my all-time favorite skateboarders!”
Vallely recently returned from San Diego where he had dinner with Svitak and agreed to put him on the team. Emily Vallely, vice-president of Street Plant says, “Kristian is like my big brother. I remember touring through France and Switzerland with him in 2000 and us getting car sick together.”
The Street Plant skateboard company will be releasing a new signature model Svitak skateboard, resplendent with his busted-ass-grill staring into the future of skateboarding. With T-shirts and stickers and skateboards all helping to spread Svitak’s name through the land, it would seem that he is about to become a household word."
Off 1031 and on Street Plant and soon he will become a household word? The wording of that doesn't even make sense.
It's crazy that Vallely probably actually believes all his own bullshit. "This brand is gonna be different this time. This is what I've always wanted. Everything else was just a detour on the road to getting me to this point."
-
actually believes all his own bullshit. "This brand is gonna be different this time. This is what I've always wanted. Everything else was just a detour on the road to getting me to this point."
it's gotta be easy to believe that BS. He's said it to himself for the last decade.
-
Everything else was just a detour on the road to getting me to this point."
So what you are saying is, his seminal release "Drive" was not just a solo tour video, but rather a metaphor for creating the ultimate brand.
Exploring this further, the streetplant was not just a trick he popularized in the 80s, but rather his attempt at forshadowing the process of creating the ultimate brand, TV Transit Vallely By The Sword Elephant, fuck, I mean Street Plant!

JASON Adams. Jay Adams is dead, man.
-
By the way, has anyone read any of the posts on this Street Plant website? There's a bunch of skateboard poems on there that I assume Mike V is writing that are terrible.

Mike V is like the P.Diddy/Diddy/Diddy Dirty Money/Puff Daddy/Sean Combs of skateboarding for switching boards so often.

I fucking hate Mike Vallely.

I noticed months ago that Mike's insta wasn't tagging Elephant and he stopped posting anything of him riding their boards.
Just old pics of himself. I guess select had just printed tons of Mikes new graphic and he just up and quit at Agenda in longbeach.
He really seems like the worst dude, selfish and egotistical. Couldn't give a shit less about anyone else.
Svitak is probably one of the only humans left that isn't related to him willing to be in a business with him.
He is one guy that his career would benefit greatly by just showing his skating and leaving his personality out of it.
Stoked Jason Adams is still there, hope he gets more say in what is going on .
His slappy hour stuff has promise for sure.

You'd think the smart money would be to just re-brand Elephant as Slappy Hour and move on. Dude already has a pretty good in house art dude...himself!

The first time I saw Kristian Svitak skate
I was moved by what I saw, by what I felt
Like Rodney Mullen or Tony Hawk I realized I was
in the presence of someone who HAD to skate
This wasnt the mere exploitation of some fine tuned ability
This was something deeper
He doesnt just do tricks
Svitak skates
Or maybe another way to say it is:
EVERYTHING that he does on his board is a trick
Like Duane Peters — No moment on his board is wasted
When Kristian pushes — It has meaning
He drops-in and kick turns with purpose
You watch him assault the streets and every inch
of asphalt and concrete is covered with intention
It makes you want to skate harder
It makes you want to put all of yourself into your skating
Thats what the best pros do
Inspire us
Kristians love for skating shines through
And you realize in watching him
that he is still the young kid that fell in love
with skating and that would never stop
And he hasnt and he wont
Since day one he has faced his life and his skating
head on with a shit eating grin
and a defiant middlefinger
Just the way it should be done
Svitak is the real deal
Im truly honored to have one of my all-time favorite skaters Kristian Svitak be the first rider on Street Plant.
vallely really have a crush on svitak.

dont get me wrong, i have respect for mike vallely as a skater - in the late 80 he really
was one of the early streetskaters i look up to him like i look up gonz, natas and thommy - for me this comparison fits.
meet him a couple of times and he was always 100% skateboarding, no shitty attitude or whatever.
just coming to the park - session - a smile for every kid - that it.
but if its come to business, he finish any relationship in a bad way - after 30 years of failure, disappointment,
and breakdown after breakdown in skateboarding industrie you shoudnt start buisness with you doughter.
that shoud be common sense.

What happend to elephant?
The original distributor sold it to Brad Dorfman's Select distribution. They use their own woodshop (no more PS Stix).
I'm not sure how much Mike V owns of Elephant. Typically, the skater shops an idea around to an established distributor and is employed as brand manager/creative director or licenses the name and also takes on a managerial role. I'd probably bail too if I was forced into that situation.

there's this dude back in Jacksonville that's completely ripped and shit with tribal tats and plays rugby, and he rides a fresh as elephant fish. It's got the rails on it and everything. He's the only dude that skates with wrist guards that people font mind being around. Mostly because he's a fucking juggernaut and no one is gonna try him like a bitch.
-
What kind of dipshit would get involved with Mike Vallely in any capacity? Especially any sort of financial/life decision. Svitak must be a few steps from living in a bus station to make such a desperate move.

Pretty sure he's fine fincancially, I believe him and his wife are both involved in Real Estate. It's just his skateboard career that's poor.

Who does Vallely think he is? Vito Genovese? "I need to have a sit down with Svitak. He will join Street Plant. He will not take a bite of his Cold Cut Combo until he kisses the ring."
Vallely has an Eagle eye for a business opportunity. He thought 2013 was a good time to take the reigns of Black Flag. Clearly his timing is spot on. Anyone who invests in anything he is hocking will end up disappointed.
-
The one thing that i've noticed about Vallely is that he's always trying to 'cash in' on whats hot. I dont know the guy and this isn't a personal attack, but im the consumer here.
Theres a huge difference between having 'a lot of interests' and just straight up trading lives.
This dude sees that people respect his 'influence' in skating more than his current skateboarding (there has even been mention of it in this thread) so he's obviously using that as his marketing ploy..the sad thing is, this is his best idea to date.

Everything Mike V does is a metaphor. He's a poet.

anyone wanna collaborate on some fan fiction involving mike v and his daughter? 'oh [emily?] you look so much like your mother at your age. i stole her from jason lee and i'm gonna steal you from that college egghead you're dating.'
'daddy, you're so alpha!'
scene 2
daughter is dancing to peaches while mike v, unnoticed stands in the corner, bemused
'oh daddy, i didn't see you there'
'fuck the pain away, i like that message, sugar plum. can i have this dance?'
working title
'incest is the elephant in da room on powell st, as seen on television, whilst drinking black label and feeling out of my element'
i read this imagining i was wearing a mike v mask and saying this to Emily!!
this should be an Emily appreciation thread! shes a foxxxx

How many times do ya think he's read "Get in he Van"?
Thousands. This guy has wanted to become Rollins for 30 years. Kinda gay!
And let's face it he has.
1) Once very relevant/inspirational in a "subculture" (like rollins)
2) Acts superior/intellectually/physically/etc (like Rollins)
3) Random tattoos that he said "i look at them as scars" (direct ripoff line that rollins has said)
4) Started other ventures as career is starting to wind down (rollins to acting/UN b.s. , vallely to wrestling, hockey)
5) "Spoken word" about deep stuff (like rollins)
6) complete douchebag now (like roolins)
7) black flag
:-o

The original distributor sold it to Brad Dorfman's Select distribution. They use their own woodshop (no more PS Stix).
I'm not sure how much Mike V owns of Elephant. Typically, the skater shops an idea around to an established distributor and is employed as brand manager/creative director or licenses the name and also takes on a managerial role. I'd probably bail too if I was forced into that situation.
But Select is considerably more legit than the bs distributor they used before. Seems like they would have more freedom and be around more skate brands vs longboarders.
I wouldn't go that far. They both seem shitty, not to mention that Select still sells a signature re-issue board of a convicted rapist/murderer and justifies it by omitting his full name (but still using his moniker). The other distributor is run by Joey Pulsifer.

I am completely blown away by this. I have had real bad vibes from Vallely since he did the DIY brand and bad-mouthed corporations in skateboarding, then almost immediately had a board on Powell. He seriously jumps off of companies way too much.
Also, the whole Rollins, [I am the incinerator, I burn desire, and enjoy pain and challenge] bullshit is all a gimmick it seems with Vallely. I do respect Rollins a lot because, he is more of a pioneer in a sense; while Vallely seriously is just the weaker, uninformed Rollins of skateboarding.
It is a shame because if he would just quit preaching and skate he would be a favorite to me for sure. I just can't support someone who is fly by night and basically lying to children to buy fake boobs or something he doesn't need.

This.
I'll watch him skate all day. I don't need to hear him tell his not-that-interesting life story in multiple dvds and acting like touring to skate is hardcore (you know he read get in the van too many times just by this activity!).
Another thing, how many companies has he started now? this has got to be a record
-
Vallely's mistake is thinking Vallely is as interesting to everyone else as Vallely thinks Vallely is.

I'm intrigued by this statement. Fake boobs that Vallely doesn't need, or fake boobs that the child doesn't need?

Adams has been on Black Label twice already.

Elephant was actually kinda ok. the whole team filled with people that are all sorta weird was cool.
but how the fuck could you be a rider for Elephant skateboards without Mike V? That's so bizarre, why would you even want to at that point.
also fuck Mike V for upselling those Black Flag boards on his personal ebay page... that's for guys like me to do.

Someone tell Russ Pope to put Jason Adams on Transportation Unit, seems like a great fit.
Jason rode for Creature and Scarecrow with Russ, TU is mostly art based with cool shapes and they share A love of Curbs.
Riding for A brand started by someone else who bailed out is just a bummer and doing it for a check.

[She puts the lotion in the basket] comes to mind. When it comes down to it, Vallely has a particular lifestyle and has to be skateboarder, so he doesn't whatever he can to pay for it and there we have it, By 'elephant The powell Sword street DIY plant transit'. . . i guarantee everyone that starts skating in the near future will send pics of their new street plant board to vallely so he can post it on his hardcore website, that has links to Black Flag. (Ginn got arrested for molesting his daughters, so we might not see a tour for a while).
-
black flag was the dopeshow w/ keith morris and lesser so but still rad cakes under new management. it took rollins to SLIP. IT. IN to sucking shit. fuck dat dude!
he's pretentious as all hell on IFC, mr 'punk cred' to mainstream goobers.
vallely is a shittier version of a shitty jock [who doesn't have sports skills. that's what hardcore is, jocks that suck at football].
i'm gonna peaceably disagree w/ whoever thinks mike v is ok when he just skates. not to sound berric but skating is soccer-y and unless yuze da goalie thou shalt not use your hands to play this game. is mike v the goalie and nobody notified me? cause if not he's in dereliction of doody.
-
thou shalt not use your hands to play this game.

Quick... say 'Street Plant Brand' 5 times, fast.
(btw just to clarify, Greg Ginn wasn't arrested for molesting his daughters.. he was accused of neglecting them by his ex-wife. big difference)

Holy shit yes

If MTV really wants a hit reality show, they should put Mike V and J Strickland together and give them a company to run and watch the entertainment write itself. It'll be called "Screwed Over", most episodes will consist of them arguing about who's screwing the other over harder.
-
Press releases in skateboarding read to me like listening to crazy people talk about government conspiracies. Just something way off about them.
Hahahaha seriously
-
i always thought mike v was a wacko, but here he is, president of his very own company. touché, mike, touché.

Master Of Puppets
Virginia Beach, 1986
I was wearing a Lance Mountain T-Shirt
Government Issue Army Pants
and Converse Chuck Taylor’s
I had my summer hair cut
but it was only late spring
I walked in the front door of the school
and out the back door
Over the fence
and down the street
Over to Chad’s house
We just sat there…
Drinking Dr Pepper
and eating Double Stuf Oreos
Hiding out from the cops
Reading Thrasher Magazine
When the school hallways emptied out
We emerged from the garage
Into the driveway with our skateboards
Mine a Vision Mark Gonzales
We set up the boombox
Inserted the soundtrack
And skated for our lives
Cars and people passed by
On there way to nowhere
But we were somewhere
Failing out of school
But succeeding at living
Doing street plants while
listening to Metallica’s
Master Of Puppets
