Title: adidas Away Days

premieres tonight at the Orpheum

Speculation? Guesses?

I know this is crazy to throw out there, and I was very skeptical when I heard this, but I've heard from multiple different sources that Daewon and MJ are going to be introduced to the team tonight at the premiere.

I kind really want MJ on adidas now, mostly to see what his reason would be to make the move after countless videos talking down on the "Big Corporate" sponsors. I mean he's been known to mask his stupidity in front of words he probably looked up in the dictionary the previous day, but i'd like the see the rant as to why adidas was the way to go. Probably somewhere along the lines of Lakai was bought out by a big corporation, so if you can't beat them join em right!?

Same. Jake too.

Also, how likely is it that this will get a hard copy release?

I wish they had the digital download go up today.

I really hope this vid embodies what went into Adidas's mini clips that Juice Designs put out. Most if not all of those have been great. Would suck if they half assed this vid and just made it sort of a standard skate video when most have been designed and edited it some sort of fashion.

Personally I don't believe in buying my tennis shoes from the big sporting goods companies, but wouldn't that be a fairly valid line of reasoning?

No DVDs. If your shop got the book it just comes with a download, no physical copy.

I wanted to go to the premier but my buddy found this bar with 40  craft beers on tap , so I'm gonna do that and let slap tell me how it was. I'm interested to see how they do this. In that one far and away someone said they don't know what the format is gonna be like.

Tyshawn, Lucas, and Miles for me. Should be a heavy video with some pretty good edits.

No DVD as of yet. I'm actually surprised the big companies are cutting back on DVDs. Spend a little cash for a photo book and DVD (its all digital so all the work is done) and double your money, easily.

Shops do have the download code, just not sure when it will go up.

I'm not. They're all filming their shit in 1080. So why bother fucking that up by putting anything out on a DVD (where they'd make less money per copy anyway)?

Which makes me wonder why they don't give us (the people who want physical copies) limited edition Bluray releases?

Adidas can literally do what Chocolate did in Yeah Right. That would be so dope if MJ and Daewon had a shared part.

I think SF premiere starts in minutes. Lets hear some spoilers!

Lucas first part, really went hard and came through with great stuff.
Alec, Silas, Miles, Tyshawn, Lem, and Suciu all had full parts.
Miles switch flip back tails a hubba for his ender.
Nakel shares a part with Jake Donnelly.
Gonz had a lot of clips thrown into almost everyone's parts, it seemed like he had enough footage for a full part. I wish his footage was presented in a full part format.
A few MJ and Daewon clips.
Busenitz last part with a crazy ft miley trick. Kind of hard to explain, he does a hippy jump over the top bar while his board goes through the lower bars, Someone will describe it better than I can.
Pretty good video, I'm glad a lot of the older pro's came through.

Tyshawn part sounds insane. Any Durrant footage? What about the Palace guys? We now gonna hear about Adidas buying up the industry? MJ and Daewon are massive ads, and possibly a death blow to Lakai, but DVS was already dead.

There's some trick Enders on the last page.  The video was so long I'm having a hard time remembering but the video was amazing. Milas did switch heel back tail on a hubba skating to skepta. Pete Eldridge had a couple of tricks slias ender was a wall ride fakie flip you gotta see it to understand how fucked it was. Tyshawun varial flip love. Funny thing about that is as soon as he landed he got a cheers from The park then said fuck I bet it's on Instagram already lol. Rodrigo Tx part was amazing he skates to Troy ave ender was a big backside flip over a pyramid the backside flip was super high. Nestor I can't remember the ender but he had a fucked up bank to noseblunt. Dennis Buzenitz ender was the hippy jump at fort Miley board goes through the bottom poles and he jumps over the top bar over the corner pyramid thing kinda hard to explain. Nakels part is funny in the beginning he has a good head on his shoulders. Him sharing a part with Jake worked really well. He skates to bankroll fresh. tyshawn did as well. Jack Fardell I can't remember but He had some fucked up wall rides. I forget the dudes name on sour skateboards but he fucking rips. Kevin Lowry ender is a 5050 gap over a gate.

I thought Nestors part was rad, but I'm a fan

Benny, Chewy and Blondie share a part, starts with a black and white south bank bit then goes into the part. Blondie kinda killed, dude looks cool on a skateboard.

Durant had a good bit of footage.

A lot of the Euro guys shared sections.

Succiu went third? thought that was odd, but whatever. Shit was good, looked like all his parts.

When Daewong and MJ were intro'd the crowed was hyped.

Jake and Nak were so dope together, I guess they hang a lot on tours and the shared part made sense.

Tyshaun <sp?> was really good, as said love gap ender.

Silas was his normal killing it self.

Busenitz SoTY!

i thought that was odd too.  How did you feel about the song choices.  I felt the music was on point but something about how some of the songs felt sleepy kinda didn't do the part justice.  I think that was my complaint with mark and nestor even though their parts were ridiculously good

Post by: Look At Them Bounce on May 13, 2016, 11:10:58 AM
The intro song is jump around and possibly my favorite part. Everyone rips in the intro. Busenitz does this crazy fs smith to smith on this bank to bar to another flatbar. Majerus Silas and Busenitz have a rad session on it.
Gonz has some good voice overs.
Lucas part was ridiculous as you would expect. He did a nolle flip fs bluntslide on that bank to ledge hotspot in SF.
Can't' remember much of TX, good full part though.
If I remember correctly suciu skates to more of an electric song I think? It was different. Skates some really amazing spots as usual with well thought out lines. He ends one line with a bs big spin fs nose to pretzel out.  His ender line is at third an army and end his part with a bs 180 fakie manual fs big spin out? I fucking suck at describing tricks but he did it all quick footed like and it was amazing. His Nyugen buddy who rides for alien does this fucked up shifty on a bump to street. It was like a bs shifty to pretzel. Yaje also has a guest trick.
There is a little south bank section with everyone skating it.
I was disappointed with the amount of Durrant footage, pretty sure he shared a part. His ender is a fs nosegrind 180 out on the ledge to gap over stairs at sants.
Gonz has tricks sprinkled in most parts.
Majerus does some fucked up kink rail tricks. He cab bs tailed that covered hubba that BA 3 flipped lipped in yeah right. He skated to the same song that John Motta recently used in that sometimes promo.
I think Miles skated to young jeezy but I'm probably wrong, not my genre.  He nollie bs heeled that big 5 or 6 block in NYC. He bs over crooked that big rail in sac that he had the cover for bs noseblunting. Like someone said his ender is a ss heel bs tail on a good size hubba.
Nestor skates to New Order. Skates some really cool spots too. Unfortunately I can't remember much of his either.
Didn't see much of Jack Fardell since the power went off.
Klaus has some really gnarly rail moves.
Lem shared a part and I remember being somewhat disappointed. He does a really good bs smith on this long downhill ledge.
Silas fucking killed it. Two song part. 2nd to last part.
Busenitz first song is snoop and 2nd song as Bowie. He's machine. As you would expect, does simplistic/visually pleasing tricks going fucked up fast in lines. He does multiple really crazy hippy jumps.
Daewon again does some crazy schoolyard picnic table tricks. Marc has only a couple of tricks too, I remember a bs tail shuv and a shuv bs noseslide on the same bank spot in DTLA.
They have a little section skating that sun land school and Busenitz does some really crazy picnic table shit, in assuming it was Daewon inspired.

*I don't get the magazine so you guys probably already know of most of this. Sorry for the shitty descriptions, can't remember much after waiting in line for 3+ hours. I enjoyed the vid but shit is always better at premieres, I would need to watch it again.

That is funny how you say Jake and Nak are good friends. There was an interview I just read where Tyshawn said he beat Jake up and Nak said "everyone beats up Jake" or something like that. I wasn't sure if that was a bitter fight or a friendly one.

Here is TX's backside flip: https://www.instagram.com/p/BFVukvLNJDg/ (https://www.instagram.com/p/BFVukvLNJDg/)

That's a weird choice for ender.

Especially considering Torey Goodall did it like three years ago for a Palace video.

There is not going to be a hard copy release whatsoever according to adidas reps.. who knows about down the road but for the foreseeable future evidently not.

My local shop said they got them in already. Unless he was lying. He said they can't sell the DVD's til May 30th

Weird. Maybe our rep is a person. We were also asking about it to have a premiere, so maybe he meant no premiere copies.

There are hardcopies. I saw them, as they come with a legit hardcover bound book.

My theory is, in such a big team and in such a big video you need to cut some people off and do some shared parts. I like Benny, i think he looks good on the board but he is not one of the main "characters" of the Team. That's why they dont focus on him that much i guess. I do think Lem is kinda bland too, they could throw him in a montage and i wouldnt even notice it.

Benny being on Adidas definitely makes me more likely to buy their shoes. I enjoy his skating, but can certainly see why he wouldn't get a much screen time in a video of this caliber. Chewy Cannon, on the other hand, is more than deserving of a full part - his skating is seriously magical, like an ambidextrous, cockney Busenitz with more wallies. I wonder if him and Benny talk about the fact that he's only on the international team despite being way more influential (in the UK at least).

There's a few tricks from both of them in one of the interstitial sections, which ends with an "introducing" title card. I should clarify, I wasn't bummed on the skating in the slightest - just sad because the times are a changin' and i'm feeling old

Seeing Marc Johnson in person was wild... I saw him look beyond spooked when two kids started shouting his name, and he quickly boarded the escalator with Blondie McCoy and left.

Busenitz: of course. Honestly, I really could have done without the Snoop Dog song though.

Nestor: classic part, classic Nestor style, and FINALLY, he skated to a great, great song, that being "Your Silent Face", by New Order.

And as weird as this sounds; Jack Fardell. Never thought I'd say that, but that part rips.

Turning pro for stereo made Benny's career - it's the reason he's on the Adidas A team. Getting on Palace after stereo fell to shit was the perfect move. He's a perfect fit and the team is stacked. Palace boards sell like crazy in the UK - The fact that hypebeast money lets them pay all their riders well is just a bonus.

Benny's a good skater, but he's definitely been lucky with sponsors compared to some.

That's almost as crazy as when Vinyl/Girls both played that song on the same night

Fardell had my favorite part, Sonic Youth made it even better.  The Gonz footy inbetween segments was tight hes still fucking got it. Thought Nak and Jake had a pretty cool part, and Tyshawn. Thought the London Boys segment was cool. I dont think there could have been a better ender between Busenitz and  Bowie.

Exactly what I thought. Tyshawn will be pro within 3 months.  That's just how these company videos are these days. Watch in full once, watch the odd random part every now and then. Can't deny that the skateboarding in the video is top notch, but the video just seems like a formality.

Yeah I dig him, always have and I dont see how some peeps aren't into him, personal preference and all that but you can't deny how fucking incredible he skates, I mean shit his Diagonal part is fucked and he did some rad shit in this video.
He would have been rad on Chocolate also.

But I just wanted to add that Silas destroyed it and skated to the goddamn Pixies so I was very very stoked.

Such a good video. Favourites were puig, Silvas, the palace section, and silas. Some questionable song choices, but good taste for the most part. Wish Gonz had a full part. amazing filming and editing too, technical and cinematic, but not contrived like pretty sweet, though the overall picture was a bit flat for my tastes. One thing that bugged me was the amount of abds, I get that it's such a long video filmed over such a long time and there's nothing they could really do about some of it, but it still irked me a bit, a few off the top of my head already and I've only watched it once.

I'll concur with what a few others have said - it was a bit long. Reminded me of one Powell's Propaganda where they had a gazillion riders and everyone got a part. It felt same-y after a bit. Ended up skipping some of it.

I think Silas, Fardell, and Busenitz were my favorite parts - although I don't think that's going to be my favorite Busenitz part ever.

Liked Puig's part even though I'm not much of a ledge guy - you can't deny that shit.

I also liked Lem's style.

Was a bit more "mainstream" than there other more interesting web clips, skating was good, but I expected a more interesting video visually, some songs really fucked up the vibe...

totally agree. I like that they paid homage to the Montreal web clip in Miles part and kept the Palace vibe of the prior Benny & Chewy part... there were some really rad transitions, like from Silas to Busenitz with the Tokyo/Tengu-vibe, but then some of it seemed so abrupt...usually due to the music choice. Nak and Jake's part was going so well until they jumped to the crap-trap music. I understand it's hard to hold onto a vibe with so many filmers involved, and each filmer has his own approach, and it was supposed to have more of a cinematographer vibe to it....but still, the transitions could have been developed a bit more. and it needed MORE CHEWY. I enjoyed the Miles part way more than I thought I would, and it's one of the few parts the music really helped. the gunes part was rad too.

nevertheless, Lucas' part was effin fantastic! pet shop boys and nancy sinatra were perfect. nestor's part was also incredibly put together.  Suciu's part was amazing and felt the most put-together. Silas' part was also really well done. unfortunately, it seems no one has really figured out how to best present a Busenitz part.  his euro part (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xVdrOGxXno (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xVdrOGxXno)) is probably the best attempt at it.  still...it's an awesome part, especially with all the manual stuff.  BUT WHERE WAS THE CHINA BANKS STUFF?  finally, yea, would have rather seen a full Gonz part than have him pop up in every single part in the video. liked what Iceman said. mind changed.

i'll watch it a ton and often...but I'm an unabashed fan of almost all of the Adidas team and their videos since the rebirth of the skate program.

i actually like how the gonz was sprinkled throughout the video rather than being confined to a single section. it offered a modicum of cohesion to the video. i also don't have a problem with the music, because, at this point, i watch all videos with very low or no volume. and in this age of internet video overload, i think these highly stacked teams should forgo the lengthy single video format. emerica and nike have a good formula with staggered integral releases. one of the problems i think this format solves is that dudes don't get robbed of screen time dude to time constraints. if they get a short or shared part it's due to lack of quantity or quality of their footage instead.

Downloaded this last night...
It's hard to judge a video, especially such a long one like this, after only seeing it once.
To be honest, I didn't really like it as a whole, for these three inter-connected reasons:

1) The whole video felt too long. 60 minutes of footage is a lot to digest. Two 30 min videos released in a single year would have been a better format in my opinion.

2) Which resulted in some really, really abrupt changes in the flow of the video and it was pretty distracting. I thought it was pretty poorly edited in that regard.

3) Some of the music choices didn't help the flow either. Some selections were on point (Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pet Shop Boys), but a lot of this video is going to sound dated as hell in five years time.

Na-kel and Jake's part was awesome. I was so stoked that the ollie over the parking meter was in there. So gnarly.
Tyshawn destroyed. The future is bright for that one.
I hope to never see that Blondey dude ever again.
Chewy Cannon oozes steeze. He's got that swerve when he rides, so ill. Wish he had a full part.

The past six months/year have seen some ridiculously great videos (Polar, Sabotage 4, Vase, 5Boro, Static IV/V, gx1000, firetre) and this video really comes across as sterile in comparison, I think. That being said, most of those videos are definitely on the core/indie/underground tip, and adidas is a sports corporation so it's kind of apples and oranges I guess.

I also have a deep affinity to regionalism in skateboarding so a 'global' video really lacks appeal to me. Not trying to get all Puleo right now, but watching Suciu's part (a skater I like a lot, for the record), I was immediately bored just seeing him skate all these different iconic spots all over the world. I know that's going to sound insane because that's basically been the standard for skate videos for decades, but as I get older, that's losing it's appeal--especially when the aforementioned videos do an incredible job documenting what's happening around them locally.

Basically:

I think as a whole the music sucked in this video.

Suciu's song was really suitable and matched his style - think it was a beach house song

Nakel skating to james brown was just weird to be honest

Busenitz skating to snoop dogg was quite possibly the worst song choice in recent years,
like words do not describe how unfitting and unaligned his skating and that song are

Silas' song and part were both pretty sick though

stoked Suciu is back to being Suciu.
that might have been Silas' best part and that's saying a lot.
TX's line with the bs 180 fakie 5-0 to regular and nollie fs flip 5-0 was completely perfect. i think he must be drinking the blood of young children or something because time seems to have no effect on his skating.
Tyshawn and Miles Silvas exceeded my expectations by a lot. same with Busenitz.
wish there was more Gustav Tonnesen but what he had was amazing.
Chewy's switch front board at Sants should have been the ender of that section.
they also fucked up using Jake Donnelly's ollie over Nakel's nollie flip for ender.

going to have to be a pick and choose video, cant be watching over an hour long skate video more than a couple times a year. fortunately the lack of flow to the editing makes this a lot easier.

I thought the Snoop track was sick tbh.  It reeks of branding but that's the kind of shit I listened to in my early years of skating so there's some nostalgia factor for me.  NWA and what followed were the same as punk and skating to my crew.  It pissed people off.

Agree with the SBN part. Dude is heavy.

JB made sense as a way for them to work that video of little Nak in.

That Troy Ave song in TX's part was the fucking worst.  Shit was unlistenable.  Props to TX though.

A lot of people have talked about Lucas and Nestor's music and I agree those were highlights. So good to see full parts from both of them.

I think Suciu's part will be underrated. Sick skating and even though that Beach House track is My Bloody Valentine light, it fit well even though people are gonna hate on it.

The Steve Reich song took me off guard and got me hyped for that little Paris montage.

Jack Fardell and Miles Silvas were both surprises for me, I knew they were good but with how heavy the team is I didn't expect them to stand out so much.  Both those parts were dope.

Overall I thought this was sick for a big budget video, way better than Chronicles 3.  It has a gang of Gonz footage!  What do yall niggas want?!?  Still not buying 3 stripes though.

If BoozeNtits doesn't take SOTY I'm cutting that Caucasian-Shrek Phelps' ears off.

As much as I love Beach House I really wish that Mark's part would've had some different music.  Nestor skating to New Order was fucking tight.  I was stoked about Fardell and Sonic Youth (mainly because I remember Adam Tobler skating to that song in an old RQ Boardshop vid in 2000).  It was super rad seeing Silas and Busenitz crush it in Japan.

This video suffers from the same problem that most shoe companies videos suffer from. None of it is cohesive aside from these dudes all have stripes on their shoes.

Everything is so all over the place, it's hard to focus and give a shit about all of it. The Polar video kept me interested because it kept tying back into itself and changing in ways that flow, same with Vase. They are cohesive entire company videos. Even longer videos such as Yeah Right and Menikmati were better thought out than this, the part order, the music, everything tied together in a way that kept you interested. STOP MAKING SKATE VIDEOS AN HOUR LONG. Who the fuck wants to watch an entire hour straight through? NOBODY.

Anyway... I skipped Rodrigo TX's part. Also the sound in this video doesn't sound like skateboarding to me. Nestor's part was great. I don't know. I feel underwhelmed. All you dudes rip, but this video isn't doing it for me.

Way too many two song parts. Two songs should only be used for ender parts with a lot of next level hammers packed towards the end. Cutting both songs in the middle is super annoying and makes no sense to me.

Just finished watching, overall I really dug it and the caliber of skating was fucked. I do think it was a bit long and they probably should've made a vid with all of the Euro guys like Diagonal, and another with the American dudes. Lucas, Suciu, Jack Fardell, and Busenitz had my favorite parts I think. Beach House are one of the more boring bands out there and I would've been bummed if I was Lem and got stuck with that song. Oh and something about Miles Silvas bothers me, but that kid is unbelievably good, and when Alec Majerus did that kickflip front blunt shuv I yelled at my computer.

Just finished watching (more props to whoever had the vision for the pornhub upload!)

Favorite parts were Silas, Lucas Puig, Suciu and I liked Miles Silvas and Jack Fardell's part more than I thought I would. Brandon (@tokyo_school_girls) had a few nice tricks in Suciu's part ... that shifty-pretzel-front-180 is bananas.

Of the euro guys (besides Pweeg), Klaus Bohms and Gustav Tonneson fucked it up good.

As far as last part? Busenitz had some really cool shit and he's incredibly fun to watch, but not my favorite part of his. Not sure if it was all the buildup, talk about a huge SOTY push or what, but I would have liked to have seen Mark or Silas with the ender, now that I watched it all  the way through. Overall the video was enjoyable but LONG. Over an hour is maybe too much for a full length, I dunno.

This video should have some replay value for sure.

Watched it with a homie yesterday.

I was thoroughly bored most of the way through the video. We even ended up discussing what the proper name for a water boiling kettle (there was this balloon-rubbing beat in a song, so we went off that tangent, "what else sounds this annoying?") was during a part.
Skater did a lot of proper tricks, lookin' steezy, but the video as a whole seemed less than the sum of its parts, too 'constructed', I guess. Filming was okay, I don't pay too much attention to filming, but I figure I would if it was horrible.

The soundtrack was wack as fuck. Fucking House of Pain? That is a band I never want to listen to. Bowie, Pixies, James Brown, Dusty Springfield, classic music, good songs, but in this context boring and bland.

Holy fuck, that Daewon/MJ advertisement was so out of place. What the fuck were they thinking? That's a shot in Adidas' own foot, and I sort of hope it turns gangrenous, because this mostly felt like a one hour long commercial.

There hardly was anything relatable in this video, except old Gonz who still manages to show some playfulness. The team travels to everywhere on Earth, stay in nice hotels, in their trendy tracksuit pants with generally genderless music choices, hardly any fun, fumbles, slams.
Everything looked gray, everything seemed way too professional and designed.

We were looking forward to Tennis Shoesenitz's part which they unfortunately also managed to dull. It could have been so rad.
Besides Gonz, Tyshawn, Silas (gnarly fakie kickflip on that wall), Tennis and to an extent the Palace dudes (Blondey, Chewy) were the more exciting. Teixeira had some dope shit too.

Will probably not watch this again, I have Misled Youth on VHS.

Excellent skateboarding indeed but I think I'd enjoy the parts more if I'd watch them separately rather than in the actual full vid, didn't feel a real link / story / unity between all of them.

Overall, I really liked it. It was a BIG video. Like Propeller, like Fully Flared. BIG in that there were so many parts you forgot about the ones that didn't totally stand out. High re-watch factor.

The parts that stood out were Lucas, Suciu, Silas, and, above all, Dennis. Maybe my favorite Dennis part to date. There's gnarly skating and I loved him skating to "Is there life on Mars?" even though it's not the most creative choice. Two favorite moments: the power slide after the noseblunt where he almost fell into the water and that ollie after that lipslide towards the end: it just looks so good when he's ollieing into that hill with the whole Bay in the background.

I agree with what others have criticized though: parts of the soundtrack were a little bland. Maybe that's a reason I forgot about so many parts.

The tennis gear is almost as bad as the pseudo NY rocker thing that happened mid 2000s
Suciu with another epic part..even if the music was trying to ruin it.

to be fair on the music.  In lucas puig interview a lot of people wanted different songs but it was hard to clear due to a sample or most hip hop songs are mixtape songs which those in itself have sample clearance issues.  Still if you have iTunes at your disposal i would think you can find some good stuff.  in my opinion that skepta song should've been used in the palace section not in miles section.  He's the trendy guy that can pull off anything but i doubt he listens to that kind of music but i forget he's a kid trying to figure it out.

I don't know what's up with people either. Based on the nature of opinions on Slap about skate videos, all people want to see is videos of skating that mirrors how their own ability. "Relatable" has become a code word for "tricks I might actually be able to do by people who I believe could be my friend." And of course the video must have music that is an exact copy of their own favorite music.

Don't know if anyone noticed but I don't think the leaked version is the same one currently being shown at the premieres. In the last Thanks section it said "coming soon" or something to that effect.

who is Dell Goodman?? He/They is the one who got the pornhub video removed.
it was uploaded by some Australian skate shop, or at least that was the users name. would be fucking hilarious if they were actually an Adidas retailer.

Putting out the request again that I would appreciate a re-edit of a full Gonz part. You will be showered in eternal gnars.

I have all his clips cut down. Its about 2 minutes of footy. Just need to get a song and put it together.

Wouldn't suprise me if Dell Goodman was just a made up name..

The shop you speak of is definantly not an Adidas retailer and is notoriously known for not stocking the likes of nike/adidas/cons/NB in protest to what they have done to this industry, but even with saying that, he didn't put it up and its looking more like a set up by someone who had either gotten it from somewhere else online or works for a shop that is hosting a premier for it this week possibly.. there's a couple of theories out there but word is Adidas aren't happy and are on the hunt!

Watching it a second time was waaaay better.  I really liked the video but I had my hopes up fucking high.

I thought it was gonna be the best video ever but I'll still give it an 8/10. A remix would be awesome Manolo.

HYPED when Dennis Durrant skating to PE.

I liked Lems part more than I thought. Daniel Castello but good.

Miles is amazingly good.

Lucas is, well, all time.

Dennis Busenitz is the best skater ever.

Got my link in the mail yesterday and I'm just done watching it.

- Top:
- Busenitz part was really really really good. The guy does some really awesome stuff and I just noticed he has some pretty decent 360 flips. also the back smith flip out was textbook. And the 50-50 360 out was incredible.
- Miles Silvas was a guy I have slept on a little bit. Great part as well
- Suciu always delivers. I cant believe how much board contol he has. It's like he does as much tricks in one line than some guys do in a complete videopart.
- It's actually pretty cool that there isn't a 'real' Mark part. He is just everywhere like a theme throughout the entire video.
- Puig is just a beast. I love how he skates and even his clothing style doesn't bother me. I live in Belgium (which is next to France) and that's just how A LOT of skaters dress here.
- Blondey, I've never ever heard off this dude but I was pleasantly surprised
- Tyshawn will turn pro soon. Very good part
- TX, fuck. That's all I'm gonna say. fuck fuck fuuuuuck he's good.
- Raul Navarro is incredible

- MID:
- Silas: Ollie to wallride was really SICK. Also the wallride kickflip out was beautiful But I expected a bit more...
- Other parts were a bit generic for me, so I don't remember those very well...

- BOTTOM
- A bit bummed on the Nestor Judkins footage. I expected way more...
- Lem Villemin didnt really 'tickle my leprechaun'. Skipped his part, sorry.
- Wish there was more Fairfax and Na-kel footage
- Music overall wasn't my thing

Will I watch it again? Yup definitely , but I will be skipping some parts.

This right here. Completely agree. Especially the second half of his part. It's rapid fire...so many tricks and so much of it nuanced that the first time through I don't think people are realizing just how hard some of it really is. Until you go back and watch it again, it's fucking killer. It's gnarly and it's an immediate classic part. I love the entire video, but Silas definitely had my favorite stuff start to finish.

Nestor's part and song choice worked perfectly together.

Also Suciu's ender was an absolute thing of beauty. His creativity and approach to skateboarding.

it felt like this was missing something but i quite dont know what. songs were boring and pretty safe choices,
bowie works always of course but still. filming wasnt that good if you compare this to example vans movie, but maybe it was because they have a huge team and everybodys got their own filmer? skits were really good but i think they didnt fit with the parts because of the poor filming. everyones tricks seemed kinda boring, maybe cause the editing? and it feels like nobody did have a proper ender, parts just stopped and right on to the next one like sucius last trick was manual line. it was too long also, i woulve liked more shared parts, because the palace one worked really well. miles was best, lucas was good but boring song, buse was great but too safe song picks. all and all i think vans was better but still the best movie for last year or so was the lrg movie. still havent seen gx thou so cant say about that one.

house of pain then pet shop boys was okay, even though jump around is among the most played out songs of all time... after that, the music stank.

others commenting about lack of cohesion between parts are bang on.

its like these guys share little in common in terms of their aesthetic, subcultures and whatnot... theyre all rad skaters, and its cool to see a diverse team, but it was all so fragmented from part to part.

dime's last vid put this multi million dollar effort to shame, imo.

At least the version that was leaked, the editing is terrible. The skating is not cut to the beat at all, maybe a few tricks in every other part but not like it should be. Some of the song choices are seriously questionable, also the sound mixing is fucked. Half the video you can't hear the skating at all and the other half, like in Suciu's part, the skating is way louder than the song. Dennis skating to snoop dog is a joke.

there was no "feeling" or image. think of pretty sweet. whether you liked it or not, when you think of it you immediately get that girl/ chocolate feeling. same with baker 3. this movie didnt make me feel any type of way really. it was just... an adidas video. it was also grey as fuck what was up with that? horrible color correction. the song choices were way to safe and boring as fuck.

super bummed on sucius part. it felt like the song was 50% muted. the song didnt have enough energy, and should have been more dramatic. shit movie honestly.

Dude I actually passed out when I first watched it too. I'd wake up and rewind it, lol...never had that happen before on a first watch. Loved Lucas Puig's part, and Jake Donnely's ollie over the parking meter was insane. Nakel's elementary school James Brown talent show was cool too.

Someone make the Gonz edit..what was that earlier trick he did in the video, wall ride and push on the wall or no comply on the wall? Happened really fast, haven't re-watched it yet. It was one of his first few clips, can't remember seeing something like that before.

i think i've enjoyed it more than you have... but i've also fell asleep on 2 separate viewings
Only part I consistently find myself re-watching is the Silas part. Some other really good stuff (Lucas, Suciu, Busenitz, Palace, Lem and Durant), but I find its lacking overall. Need to see it in HD though, but the editing seems off. Some of the Gonz skits (while showing off the Gonz) just seem strange.

I think part of the feeling asleep phenomenon we all felt is the grey filter they used.
It ruins the dynamics of the footage. Some brighter/punchier colors would have help to stay awake.

Someone make the Gonz edit..what was that earlier trick he did in the video, wall ride and push on the wall or no comply on the wall? Happened really fast, haven't re-watched it yet. It was one of his first few clips, can't remember seeing something like that before.

i made one and shared it here and it got taken down immediately, and then just a while after vimeo deleted it from my account.

Is your sig from away days or did I just miss this trick in a past Silas part?

My favorite part is when Gonz sits on the sidewalk and talks to his shoe:

At least the version that was leaked, the editing is terrible. The skating is not cut to the beat at all, maybe a few tricks in every other part but not like it should be. Some of the song choices are seriously questionable, also the sound mixing is fucked. Half the video you can't hear the skating at all and the other half, like in Suciu's part, the skating is way louder than the song. Dennis skating to snoop dog is a joke.

Had some good parts but the video as a whole was pretty disappointing. A lot of the skating was pretty generic. Couldn't believe some of the songs and the mediocre editing, especially when you know it's Adidas and they been working on this for a while + probably spending a shit load of money for it.
Also bummed on Gonz not having a part and the Magenta section being so short. Vivien and Leo could have easily share a part and bring some  funk to the table

especially when you know it's Adidas and they been working on this for a while

I loved the video... but some parts did seem quite rushed, while others looked/felt/flowed like they were done well in advance (i.e. suciu, silas, nestor).  I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the footage goes to future web edits.  i.e. didn't seem like there was much Tokyo in Busenitz's part...

Music was generally very weak. Busenitz part probably has the highest rewatch value imo, even though the music there sucked too. Lots of great skating but didn't enjoy this overall, it felt too little like a team, too much like "production". In the past few years, I've felt the Adidas edits to be some of the strongest things out, but this just doesn't feel good. Hard to understand, with so much talent in front of and behind the camera, but there you go.

true they did take down away days, but the forum surely tipped them off to that. does daily motion still not care about copyright shit? maybe that's an option. could also just upload it to a porn site but don't include any relevant key words. distribute the link via pm, preferably only to vetted slappers, so some corpo cornball doesn't create an account just to ask for the link.

They also cropped one shot of MJ for continuity. Previous version he pushed to a spot in all black shoes but then did the trick in different pair. Blondey's outburst part was cut short. That's all I picked out first go round.

Changing the version of the song for Chewy's part was a weird choice. Also, if anyone knows where to get the PWBC version, I'd surely appreciate it.

edit: Side by side there are LOTS of small changes, cutting/extending clips by few frames between tricks, different angle of Gonz riding around "daffy" style in Nestor's part, different angle of Silvas overcrook, Donnelly's bigflip got moved by about half a second, they changed the order of gonz's two tricks in the red bowl in Fardell's part. None of the changes added anything IMO. Also this

This.

Felt like the video didn't have many ups and downs. Everyone killed it, but not too many next level hammers. I know that type of skating is kinda what adidas is going for, but doesn't work for such a long video.

Editing was weird too. Puig had a 4min part, and they used two songs that are both like 4min long each. would've worked much better with just the Pet shop boys song.

The music was pretty much shit with a couple exceptions (new order, pet shop boys, the world music I dug)  Seriously, why the fuck some of those songs were chosen makes me wonder who this was intended for. And then the arbitrary Bowie song at the end. Yes the song rules, but Flip has already done that. House of Pain is not good. A tribe Called Quest song or Beasties song would have been so much more on point. That music direction ruined it for me. The rap was mostly terrible, and I fucking love rap music. Having said that, Alec's part was the best I think , and SBN's fakie/wallie flip was also very sick. I did feel like addidas is trying to steer the ship in a weird direction.

Remember music rights are a bitch (blah blah they can afford it cause they're adidas) but you never know what really went down behind the scenes.

The skating as amazing as well. Loved sucius part the best I think. Lucas and Silas killed it too! And Dennis duh. Only complaint was dae and mjs intro. It was meh. Either give them a full shared part or don't even include it

House of Pain is sick for just that one song, and the only Tribe Song I could see really fitting the intro is Bugging Out and maybe Scenario Remix, most of their stuff is fairly mellow, and the intro needed something hype. The rap was indeed very shitty, seems they wanted to pay tribute to recently dead people with the Bowie and Bankroll Fresh song choices. The Shiznit is a classic track, but it just didn't feel right.

Bugging Out? You trippin son :P sif NB# haven't already got mad dibs on it. Also, sif adidas would even touch that when it's directly mentioning a competitor's brand in the lyrics.

***
Only watched it once and the sound track was extremely boring to me. As others have mentioned though, it's probably pretty hard to get rights to songs these days without paying mad scrilla (and we all know Adidas is NOT going to drop mad scrilla on their SB program when compared to other "sports")
As far as the individual parts go I still think I need repeated viewings before it all soaks in but I was shouting at my computer screen for a few of Suciu's tricks.
I really don't "get" Palace and/ or their appeal - why on earth would you want to look like an adlay and listen to music that sounds like Guru Josh? Guess I'm just an old fart who is out of touch with the youth of today...

Snoop Dogg being involved in this project is really unnecessary and cringe-worthy. Like we're supposed to be hyped that someone famous is being payed to pretend to be stoked about skating. He must have been bored out of his mind after the first 5min at the premiere like any non-skater would be watching an hour long ledge skating video.

Also, if you think about it, heavy rail skating parts are kinda a young person's game. For example, compare Paul Rodriguez's Yeah Right Part to something like his Plan B Me, Myself, and I part. A good portion of Adidas' team (in regards to who is officially on the team) have been around for a minute and ledge skating is a lot easier on the body. That's probably why Daewon has had such a long career, difficult tricks but low impact. Yeah there is Silas, but there is always an exception.

I watched it a few times and I saw someone mention it here that it is a "grown-up video" and I think that is really on point.
It is really similar to the Vans video in a way that it is edited really clean with no gimmicks (obviously except the Snoop Dogg bit which was pointless). It doesn't come close to Greg Hunt's cinematography and his editing skills (for me just for his compositions alone he is the best in the filming/editing business with Jason Hernandez and Benny Maglinao tied in close second), but the way it was filmed and edited was really cool for most parts. The only reason the filming sucked sometimes was probably because of all the filmers involved from all over the world and the different parts could have been tied together more cohesively. Although the main difference in comparison with the Vans video I think is that in the Vans vid there are tons of unseen spots of the US, where in Away Days you have the same thing just for everywhere outside the US.
I really liked Suciu's, TJ's, Miles' and Gustav Tonessen's footy but the Busenitz and Silas parts show best why this video has a high rewatch value. It's not like the Dime video, or a lot of other vids that have a killer vibe and makes you want to go skate instantly and watch them all the time, instead of that especially the last two parts have clips, selections of a trick for a spot, or just the tricks or spots themselves that you have to watch many times to understand how good they are.
Not sure if it makes sense, but all these gems all over the place make this video memorable for me, and this is where I see the "grown-up" way of the video, because these are the things that don't necessarily stand out to someone fairly new to skating.

An hour long video of ledge skating and I loved it. I think there are some "bubbles" in skateboarding today where people forget that ledge skating is still very popular.
[close]
Never said it wasn't, I still enjoyed it, it was just sort of...lackluster?
[close]

Also, if you think about it, heavy rail skating parts are kinda a young person's game. For example, compare Paul Rodriguez's Yeah Right Part to something like his Plan B Me, Myself, and I part. A good portion of Adidas' team (in regards to who is officially on the team) have been around for a minute and ledge skating is a lot easier on the body. That's probably why Daewon has had such a long career, difficult tricks but low impact. Yeah there is Silas, but there is always an exception.
Not gonna argue there, I usually don't notice a lack of handrails in a part unless I'm consciously thinking about it, like I didn't realize Mike Mo didn't skate any handrails in Fully Flared until I saw it brought up in the comments. But a lot of those guys are younger and I've seen them hit handrails in the past; it just sort of struck me as odd.

His part was so disappointing his style has gotten better I think it's because he doesn't smoke weed anymore, he mentioned that in an interview years back.

I got to the 50-50 on the smallish green rail and just skipped the rest. What happened to the dude who would do shifty flips over giant bump to bars.

Nak and Jake's part had tons of rails as well.

Also, I don't care how much you guys suck Dennis' balls, the biggest tragedy of the entire video was not giving Lucas the last part. It was unfathomably good. Up there with Marc and Guy's FF parts, Koston's Yeah Right part, Daewon's Round 3 part, The Gonz in Video days etc...

I mean hell in this thread alone it seemed like every other post was "OMG LUCAS' PART!!" Lucas' part was sooo good and that Pep Boys song fit perfectly." "Lucas with the opener was amazing." Yet I don't remember (not going the check this whole thread again)anyone going, "OMFG JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE DENNIS' PART!"

Agree with the Since Day One call - the Dan Wolfe kinda feel was pretty strong with this - lack of ender tricks, slow-mo or repeats/second angles. Both were a bit underwhelming. Maybe my expectations got the better of me but I was thinking like I'd never watch it from start to finish again/that the music could've been better/so many skaters I love but the filming/editing made it feel dull. That's me being overly critical - I'm sure I'll manage just rewatching parts.

One thing that did shit me was the extended clips announcing Daewon and MJ. Felt like an interruption and will kill rewatch value. It might be cool at the premiere but the video is overlong as is - should've been a separate webclip with footage that isn't a complete after though.

The video was pretty good as a whole, only thing I can say about the music is that some parts and skaters could have skated to something else, Lucas Puig's songs were too slow for him, where was the French rap?

The editing was mostly super good and on point, especially for the in between sections, but I think some of the parts didn't feel right with their timing.

Yeah people on here seem stoked on the west end boys or whatever it's called song. but I thought it didn't work at all. French gangsta rap would have been way doper. Or just gangsta rap in general.

On another note, can we take a minute and talk about Jack Fardell's part? Probably the most underrated one in the whole video.

Honestly they have too much filler crap in this video: on one hand you have amazing progressive skaters like miles silvas and gustav tonneson (1 footed nose grind wtf) mixed with some real weak sauce like Kevin Lowry.  Also, I'm sure some of you will have a heart attack about this but school sure did not help sucius skateboarding, that guy put better parts out five years ago.  Silas, lucas and miles all killed it though.  Would also love to see all of Gonzs tricks in one part, it seemed like he had a lot of great footy.

According to his TWS interview last year Suciu was recovering from a post-op infection that caused him to lose over 45 pounds. He had to relearn how to skate.

And most people nowadays put out better stuff at first and taper it down to something more realistic. Everyone comes out boards a blazin' instead of easing into it. Like the story about the bull and the calf.

A bull and a calf are standing on top of a hill overlooking a valley full of heifers. The calf says, "Hey! Let's run down there and bone us one of those heifers!"

The bull, knowing the heifers will take off when they see the bull and calf running towards them, says, "No. Instead, let's walk down there and bone them all."

Honestly they have too much filler crap in this video: on one hand you have amazing progressive skaters like miles silvas and gustav tonneson (1 footed nose grind wtf) mixed with some real weak sauce like Kevin Lowry. Also, I'm sure some of you will have a heart attack about this bit school sure did not help suciuS skateboarding, that guy put better parts out five years ago. Silas, lucas and miles all killed it though. Would also love to see all of Gonzs tricks in one part, it seemed like he had a lot of great footy.

Edit: PS Maybe not the most underrated, but one of my favorite parts, even if it was super short, was Gunes for sure. Just something about how tech he was and a lot of his tricks almost looked like he wasn't going to land.

Is it me or were people let down by a lot of peoples last tricks? don't get me wrong, they are amazing tricks, but I feel like people had better tricks in their parts, Lucas, TX, Silas, Booz n tities enders didn't really leave me with wow, I mean the spots are gnarley is real life and some of the tricks were creative and outside the box, but I kinda expected a little more, I was kinda let down. ill prob get heat for this, just a personal opinion. Lucas trick would of been better on something else, a flat ledge kinda bored me or a different angle or something, TX backside flip is pretty much just backside flipping a crusty skatepark table top

Miles had prob the best last trick or Tyshawn

it is kind of sad this idea that just because its a skateboarding video, negative critiques shouldnt be addressed. "its good skating, its free, stop whining.. meh"
critique is something natural, something useful... if they read fucking slap, maybe adidas' next joint wil be more than mediocre.

it is pretty obvious that the video has many flaws... it is obvious that the soundtrack is naive and jeopardized parts with amazing skateboarding. the editing look rushed (even tho it's probably not), not to say weak, and couldn't atone for the poor music selection and variety of footage.
damn, a song doesn't have to be perfect... a song has to be fucking skatable!

there were some other silly ideas like the very cheesy "magenta effects".... hahahah that shit is laughable

other than that... the video holds itself for the great skateboarding and some down to earth parts like lucas', silas', klaus/gustav, alec's, lem's... and the only great part: london/palace... MVP: Blondey

the thing is that you just can't have a 70min video with such childish errors

Speaking of TX's ender, not that I care about NBDs but it was odd for his ender in a major shoe company video to be something already done in a Palace video. Miles' was sick. Lots of Silas' tricks stood out to me but don't recall the ender. I liked the way he did his fakie wallride kickflip out

I also felt a bit underwhelmed by a few of the enders. Given that there are three Palace riders in the video, surely somebody would have pointed out the fact that Rodrigos ender was ABD. Puigs ender is starting to grow on me though, the way he holds the switch nosegrind after shuving into it, then pops out looks amazing, don't think the long lens angle and slow mo did it any favours though. Not really a fan of Busenitz ender, a lot of clips in his part impressed me much more. I feel like in Silvas, Tyshawn and Majerus and Silas had the best enders.

If you look closely, it seems like Silas pops the flip out of the wallride as he is still going up, hence being able to pull it back and bone it out bank into the bank. So I think its actually a switch/fakie wallride, fakie flip out. Pretty crazy to imagine in person, perhaps the angle didn't do it justice.

I think most people still prefer 30p. 60p removes the cinematic quality of a lot of the shots in the video, as well as in the footage, makes the whole thing look like a video game IMO. Proper progressive frame video is supposed to have a little bit of motion blur in each frame in order to blend the frames.

30 frames per second is a good approximation to how the human eye perceives things, 24p is cinematic, and 60p is useful for slow motion, but looks unnatural when played in real time(according to science at least).

The Nike Sb videos are only 60p on Youtube, perhaps Nike enforced that, because I can almost guarantee you that Jason Hernandez would have wanted to export it in 30p. I wish Youtube gave you the option of selecting the frame rate independent to the resolution.

There were a lot of enders I liked.Kevin Lowry's  50-50 on the the red steps to ollie over the bar was NUTS!

Gunes' nollie pop shove it over the bump to bar to me would be so sketchy to try.

Miles' was insanely hard.

People that don't like Alec's don't realize how hard it is to balance on a 50-50 down a kink let alone 50 kinks like he did. Plus the rail  was round

Silas' ender made me shit bricks!

And obviously TJ's was beyond gnarly but he made sure I'll never want to watch it again with those overalls.

And some I didn't care for.

I feel like Nestor's second to last trick should have been the ender (Back lip to back noseblunt on an up ledge), and Dennis' was like, "Ok he did a sort of cool ass hippy jump. Wait, where's the rest of his part? YOU MEAN THAT SHIT WAS HIS ENDER!!!! *gumpy face*"

Lem's ender would have been 138,989,481 times better if he had kickflipped into the back tail from the bank instead of from the flat beside the rail.

Those are all I can remember.

Oh yeah Lucas'. Half of me was like meh but the more I thin about the trick and how he held on makes me dumbfounded.

Miles for sure won't change away from adidas, but it is hard to believe he is in this board sponsor limbo now. His part is fire.

Mark Gonzales was the star in the Away Days video. Today is his birthday !

adidas "Far & Away" episode 10 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a3cJ5X-el4#)
[close]

Always stoked on the Gonz, but that was underwhelming.

Not his skating just the boring way it was all put together.

This.

I hope they stop those episodes now, it's getting cheesy, this episode was not necessary at all.
Just let the gonz skating talks for itself, I don't need anybody to tell me for the 1000th time that gonz is inspirational.

I'm on repeat mode here to stress a point. Which is Mile's whole part is ender's people! Watch his part again by itself and try to grasp the shit he's doing and how on point it is. It was slap your momma good. Kid deserves a proper board sponsor, and his own pro model shoe. Yeah, I said it. Also, that was the video part of the year for me, peaches  :-*

miles deserves to have spinal reconstructive surgery. until then no board sponsor.

Personally I felt that Suciu's part was the best. It was the most replayable than the others.

After watching it a few times I really liked Lems part. The song worked we with it. I know I'm probably the only one that thinks that.

Miles and both Dennis's had my favourite parts. Puig too.

The chewy and Fairfax music was cringe worthy!!!

All Corpo-MJ-Daewon-Drama aside, the skating in this video is really good. I agree with most of you saying the music choices were off, but Puig, Silva, Jones, Fardell, Gunes, and Baxter-Neal really made this video happen. Although I'm not proud I paid for it, I'm glad these dudes put out parts that made me somewhat feel like I got something out of my 12 bucks.

So I know that Jake was hurt for most of the filming which is why he shared a part (With him and Nakel being homies it's no surprise he shared Nak's part) but I wondered what an only Nak part would look like and how long it would be so I edited Jake out of his part and added a different trap banger or the song. I know you probably don't give a shit but hey, maybe You didn't buy the booklet with the DL code and didn't download it when it was on youtube so here. You get to see Nakel's part.

NAK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHpP19E8S8Q&feature=youtu.be#)

fuck adidas man! they put out some half ass video with half ass editing... and now theyre claiming rights and removing fan edits from youtube??! thats fucked up... remixes are an important part of skateboarding videos

I know facts don't often have a place in this current anti-corp narrative, but Adidas didn't "claim" anything to have that remix removed. Infamous Entertainment - the company that owns the rights to the song - had that video removed. But again, I don't want facts to get in the way of a good, dipshit anti-corpo rant.

it looks like they cut out the little part where the extra from snatch is frontin' on that guy who is just giving his ledge a good stretch. sup with that? not nearly raw as anything in the GX vid.
