totally agree...it does rule. also agree that it sucks it has taken this long. I mean, the US military officially "allowed" homosexuals before skateboarding, and yet, we get bummed when they place an ad in one of our precious magazines.

Jarret was (and probably still is) the shit. Just from my experience seeing him, he was not only a great skateboarder, but a badass in general. People said big brother was making fun of him, but if you knew him, you'd know that he was actually the one mocking homophobia in skate culture. He had that Pansy Division punk thing going for sure. He was rad to everybody and ripped harder than anybody. I'm really glad he's getting his due credit.
He also had an uncredited nollie biggerspin heelflip over a pyramid hip in the credits of one of the later H-street videos.

Well BA&Phelps are a very powerful couple and I hope they can make a nice life together and IMO both of them looks so much in love in that photo. Wait what the whole deal wasnt about BA&Phelps?! :D
Anyway, its a shame you get hated for being gay in Frisco. On the skate scene I kinda belong theres no one openly gay yet so theres not a chance I can have an opinion of how shame is to hate on a gay pal. I know on the bottom of my heart that if someone on this scene show the world their sexual orientation guys are going to be disrespectful even if the guy runs the show with the orders and team of one of those big mall stores, like I kinda hear around. Im still living in a third world country and the major of people skating grew up on enviroments of male chauvinism and a lot of folks thinks is cool to portray skateboarding as some kind of gang and I hate that shit cause lately a bunch of skaters are robbing people on the streets and Police man are crazy right now with that. The most related thing to me here is the local girl gang, I love that crew cause all those ladies are really bad asses and they are all lesbian or maybe bisexual and they just live free without giving a fuck and I dig that and they always have amazing and crazy parties. Those girls really hate the usual sk8er boi here but I roll with them here and there.

On the skate scene I kinda belong theres no one openly gay yet so theres not a chance I can have an opinion of how shame is to hate on a gay pal. I know on the bottom of my heart that if someone on this scene show the world their sexual orientation guys are going to be disrespectful even if the guy runs the show with the orders and team of one of those big mall stores, like I kinda hear around. Im still living in a third world country and the major of people skating grew up on enviroments of male chauvinism and a lot of folks thinks is cool to portray skateboarding as some kind of gang and I hate that shit cause lately a bunch of skaters are robbing people on the streets and Police man are crazy right now with that. The most related thing to me here is the local girl gang, I love that crew cause all those ladies are really bad asses and they are all lesbian or maybe bisexual and they just live free without giving a fuck and I dig that and they always have amazing and crazy parties. Those girls really hate the usual sk8er boi here but I roll with them here and there.

Nothing changs for us straight folk, but can't say the same for gay skaters. Like BA said, when "faggot" and "gay" gets tossed around in regular conversation with no tact, what are gay skaters that still haven't come out supposed to feel/think? I think that many skateboarders have always been relatively open minded in regards to sexual orientation, but I also wouldn't exactly call the skate scene up till now "gay friendly" either. To have a public figure come out as gay and have this overwhelming public display of support goes a long way in changing the way skateboarders deal with sexual orientation.

I think it takes a while for people to realize gay people are just people. I don't think BA really sexualized anything in that minidoc, it was more like "hey I'm gay, and here's what that's meant for me". A lot of people, especially young people, have to sexualize everything cause it's cool and sex is everything. We can see this in Reda's cringe filled comment in the credits about big dicks, or Biebel and his "more pussy for me" comment. There is more to being gay than just the sexual aspect, and I don't think a lot of people even consider that.
So no. I don't think BA divulged too much of anything. I think people see or hear gay and automatically think "I have no problen with two dudes sword fighting, brrrha, I'm soooo open minded and progressive", and don't even consider the fact that BA had to hid a whole part of his life. Good on you BA, I've always loved the guy's skating and glad he can be himself.

Also it's cool for young gay dudes finding themselves through skating and hearing the msg "you can be openly gay and be skater and its all good"(not the case in the past). Compare that to Pontus openly having a women's shoe fetish, it's not a big deal because no cares and shoe fetishism has not been an issue in skating, that's the difference.

They do look adorable. I was literally chatting with the crew at the end of the sesh with the rewarding beer and this topic was part of the conversation because of the obvious "thats gay" remark everyone does at the skatepark. The thing is when we start talking about this it was super awkward because of the male chauvinism cause everybody was super offensive to BA and not funny at all. I tried to made a point about the SOTY award and how hes been a badass all those years but it was painful cause everyone there was super harsh. I cannot stand that much, I finished my beer in two shots and rode back home. ::)

We are all pretty nerdy and not jockish in the least. Most of us know out gay men and women in our day to day life at work or otherwise and we live slim a big city where it is common for people to be out or have other "alternative " lifestyles. If one of our crew did have a problem with it they would get shut down quick.
