This is a new contest on this popular brazilian youtube channel "sobreskate". It features some of the best brazilian skateboarders right now and some newcomers. I must say I'm quite impressed with it. Lots of gnarly tricks going down with ease...
The rules are simple, like the traditional Game of Skate, but you have two tries to match the trick and 3 tries on the last letter. You need to alternate between a Grind and a Slide each round too. Better than the last couple BATB IMO.
Games that went down for now:
Slides & Grinds - Gabriel Fortunato vs Murilo Rom?o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzHKzmFCIek#)
Slides & Grinds - Wagner Ramos vs Victor S?ssekind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APCGehPt4kA#)
Slides & Grinds - Rodrigo Petersen Vs Jo?o Gabriel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2LM1WKBqlo#)
Slides & Grinds - Lucas Marques vs Lucas Xaparral (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPkBTKf7XeY#)
Slides & Grinds - Alex Carolino vs Henrique Crobelatti (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCqzYJIUNfY#)
Slides & Grinds - Yan Felipe vs Luiz Apela?o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs7IwnMUEjo#)
Slides & Grinds - Marcio Roberto vs JP Dantas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmpQT4nZsNM#)
Slides & Grinds - Cezar Gordo vs. Gustavo Dias (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWF-YfkRW68#)
-
These are sick, I've been into ledge skating lately.
-
some preety amazing first try stuff.
things should get interesting in the next brackets.
-
thanks for posting. these were awesome. looking forward to more.
-
great stuff
last match was really rad
edit:
i searched their channel and looks like a new one is up
Slides & Grinds - Lucas Rabelo VS Daniel Marques (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjZStbbTGiM#)
fuck yeah, thanks Skatan for pointing these out!
-
Interesting how they named 5-0 grinds. But yeah really good skating in every clip.
-
tobey, you need to get to brazil and show these clowns whats up.
-
Interesting idea, I watched the first game but forgot to check the rest as they showed up. Sometimes I wonder how do Youtube's facilities work, but I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to vlogging... kids eat that shit up.
-
These are excellent. Especially that first game. Both those guys were doing fucked up tricks first try and Gabriel Fortunato looks great on the board. That guy that played Rodrigo Petersen is fucked up good too. I was glad to see Petersen get one good trick in there with the cab lipslide. And is that ledge high, or am I just a bitch? Probably both. Fucking Brazilians ripped that shit a new asshole.
We've been calling for a ledge game of skate from the berrics for years now and I'm so glad someone else did it. Berra is an idiot. I really like the alternating slide/grind and two try rule. They're doing it right.
-
Ledge is no joke too. One of the smaller guys had problems getting lipslides.
So much more fun to watch than another dude bailing a hardflip late 180,
-
very entertaining stuff to watch, thanks dude
-
Damn these were fun, way more fun than I expected. Good find. Keep us posted with new ones.
Also these dudes are really fucking good. :o
-
I'm glad you guys liked it. It's a really cool concept and some of those brazilians are too underrated. Lucas Marques is a fucking killer and one of the best newcomers on the BR scene. I'm not a expert on brazilians skating but i got more interested in it since i got some connections with their industry.
Looking forward for the Iqui vs Fagundes match, and the carolino, formiga and Filipe oliveira ones... Lots of different approaches to skating making it really interesting. I would love to see Pedro Biagio in it too since he's an animal at ledge skating!

these are amazing. i would gladly watch this over the most recent batb.
however, they should never have counted that dude's wallie 5050 on defense, it wasnt even close

Can we get a Shane vs Guy match, the world might not be ready for it.

Is that ledge long enough for Formiga???

What the fuck is in the water they're drinking. It's like Brazilians are bred to pop high and destroy any ledge in their way...

Those guys are seriously good, the fact that those tricks are first try is incredible. I'm not sure if typical Berrics Pros would do that well on that game. I could see PJ, Asta, and Shane O'neill do good though.

That match was pretty insane!! Nollie heel back tail had me like whoa! Carolino is a G!
He's also the first pro to win a match, all the other ones were the AM's winning.

OUS are expensive and the Brazilian real is getting more valuable, so prepare to cough top dollar if you want a pair. I'm more of a clearance rack kind of guy so I've yet to try them. I think Ous is planning to start distributing first in Europe then in the US.

There's been a few strange calls, but you'll always argue with the ref in these types of contests.
In one of them, I can't find it again, a dude only takes one try on trick and they showed two different angles to make it look like he tried it twice.
-
It's interesting seeing Polar/Welcome/Cons dudes vs. DC/DGK dudes. The kid with the shaped board was def the best of the highwater crowd.

Yeah, I kinda hated Formiga game. If he doesnt start the next one he might struggle to win.

We always used to call it that. So not just a Brazil thing. Then the name "willy" came around and I thought that was a stupid name. Which it is.
Anyway, Lima/Formiga game had that "I wanna win" kind of vibe from Formiga's side. That's when it becomes a contest more so than a game. Lima landing those weird tricks was cool.

Yeah, totally that! Formiga saw a weakness on him and went to the throat on that.
BR people use lots of other names to tricks and I think it's funny, just another sign how unique is they're skating world. A "kickflip" to them is an 360 flip, for example...
-
I don't like that Formiga guy. His side 'fro beanie said his name on it.

I don't think it would be too off the mark to say that if he built his own table, he would exclaim "This is a Forrr-mIGa table" in a slow voice and then cackle right after.
Anyway. Klaus Bohms has great style.
-
They did it again, played two angles of Klaus Bohms trying the front 50 kickflip in the match against Diego Wanks (lol) to try and make it look like he tried it twice, but he only did it once.

Just caught up on these--SO sick!
Like most of you in this thread, I cannot believe some of the shit going down first try, and then matched first try on defense. So fucked.
The Edgard Lima vs Marcelo Formiga match (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFXw72NvW30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFXw72NvW30)) bummed me out HARD. It genuinely looked like Formiga did three different tricks the entire time. Sucked/such poor form. That's like playing SKATE and knowing your opponent can't do double flip body varial variations...and doing ten of them in a row until they lost.
Especially lame because Lima seemed insanely good and ripped a frontside flip nosegrind first try!! Really wanted to see more of him, but instead we have to see some clown doing 5-0 to crooks variations to inflate his ego.
The Yan Felipe vs Luiz Apelao match (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs7IwnMUEjo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs7IwnMUEjo)) was really sick too...Apelao had great style and speed. I was really bummed he lost in round 2.
These rule and make BATB look like child's play.
-
Side question because maybe this is a good thread to ask...
What's the Brazilian equivalent to like, the Sabotage, GX1000, or Static videos?
You know, just raw/underground/core street skating.
I have an affinity for regionalism in videos and would love to see more underground international skating.
I haven't heard of most of these dudes in this game, but a lot of them have incredible style and would like to see them, or other rippers skating street.

Most people find spinning frontside easier switch. A person who can do both regs and switch tails well would probably say 270ing out would be a toss up between the two.

yeah doing a flatground ss fs 360 is easier for me than regular... but when it's out of a tailslide, goofy or regular comes as natural...
Though I also know a few people who can regular fs 3 with their eyes closed, but can't ss fs 360 or ss fs ts 270 for their life...

Why? Because you dont like wallies? Its like saying that nollie flips into grinds are cheap when you're opponent is not good at them.

I wanted so much for Carolino to win with that constant smile. Also, the first try switch flip backtail, nollie heel frontside nose (which the other guy didnt seem to get a letter for some reason) and nollie heel frontside tailslide. It says on the rules you cant put your feet on the ground, so no bonelesses neither no-complys. It doesnt say nothing about wallies so they are as valid as an ollie. And wallie is a trick, it takes skill to do it. If they were that easy/not a trick, carolino would land them easely. (I cant do them for the life of me too, but I appreciate who does them, dont hate on them)
-
I'm still salty that Oliveira got a redo on the wallie crook where he barely got a crook, put his foot on the ledge and then just jumped back on like it's all cool.

excess slappies on the last match was a lack of taste. if you were getting MERKED then maybe throw in one but going for the jugular like that at the cost of good taste is wack. and for a new age polar good vibes throw back 90's type cat that was goon. he made carolino look even better ironically.
that other character who kept doing the same front five, lip slide to crook ledge dancing shit...shame on him even when there's money at stake.
easy for me to say but this is an expose of talent beyond winning on some booty maneuvers. that frontside flip five revert was savage and that's what i'm remembering not the winner.

Also, the first try switch flip backtail, nollie heel frontside nose (which the other guy didnt seem to get a letter for some reason) and nollie heel frontside tailslide. Hitting him up with so many wallies/slappies was kinda brutal but he still seemed stoked to try them. Carolino rules.
I was like how did no one else notice that! If he would have lost due to that it would have been crazy
That was just an editors error. The guys there were counting the letters for sure.
I do agree that the redo call on the wallie crook was wrong. I guess they didnt noticed the feet on ledge...

Damn, cheap win, Carolino owned that.
Why? Because you dont like wallies? Its like saying that nollie flips into grinds are cheap when you're opponent is not good at them.
Like you wouldn't be salty if the guy did a boneless into every grind. Wallie's not a trick. Literally just riding at a wall.
Carilno leaves with dignity.
It says on the rules you cant put your feet on the ground, so no bonelesses neither no-complys. It doesnt say nothing about wallies so they are as valid as an ollie. And wallie is a trick, it takes skill to do it. If they were that easy/not a trick, carolino would land them easely. (I cant do them for the life of me too, but I appreciate who does them, dont hate on them)
Watching Felipe doing all these wallies/slappies reminds me of a younger friend of mine who knows i suck at no comply tricks plays skate with me and does 5 no comply tricks, such good games.

He even "forgot" to take the tag of the t-shirt. Once i saw Stevie in barca and @RapeGod was with him, skating with the price tag of his beanie dangling all over. I thought he was putting too much effort to stand out and also tried to guess his age because you need a very young mind to do shit like this. I used to really like Formiga's skating with the long ass grinds when he was not getting so much shine but now that i get to watch more stuff from him i believe he is kind of "same trick, different day". Maybe he's getting old but the dangling price tag says otherwise.

Best game for sure.
I like Fortunato skating but he already has a light spot on him with all the nike sb, monster and element sponsors. Lucas is this unknown ripper that really deserves some shine. He got introduced on OUS footwear recently and it's not even full AM on Blaze Supply (I think he's flow), so I hope this bumps him up at least sponsorship wise.

Too right, he has amazing style and seems like a really nice dude. I cannot decide between him and Kaue Cossa, they both seem to have extra terrestrial abilities on a board. Also, after one of your later comments, i am stoked he is the underdog in this contest so double good for him!

another great game. why don't they don't count pop outs? imagine how bummed wenning is right now.
-
i really dig that guy with the cut pants.. also i agree about the pop out rule. if dude is popping in and out of a nose grind in the middle of the ledge, that is what the other guy should have to do.
-
Giving a pass on doing a grind of the ledge after the other guy popped out mid ledge is bullshit. Especially on a bs ng and 50 bs 1 out
Should tighten trucks though, looking uncomfortably shaky over there

Good game. Stoked Souza was able to wallie crook so nice. I wonder if he already could do those or he learned those knowing it would probably come up in this match.
Oliveira got a pass for that switch front crook that didn't look very crook so that cancelled out the mid ledge pop out for me.
-
last game was really good! I also agree on everything people have said here pop outs and the wallie crooks. wanted the wallie bs fifty to be landed sooo badly

Hell no. He did multiple mid ledge pop out tricks. Getting a pass on one buggered trick does not equate.

Dumb.

Meh the other guy did like a switch bonk fs nosegrind compared to switch fs crook the whole box.....
He didn't commit to one flip in trick the whole tournament.

it looked like Kaue did that for the first time too. maybe he's done it before, but holy shit... I don't think we're going to see another game of skate where that trick goes down and both people land it within 2 tries.

Semi's were ok, took some time but whatever... but the 3rd and 4th place game was too fucking long, dudes were just trying really hard shit, not giving a fuck and failing a lot. I had to pass forward and go straight to the Finals game, aint nobody got fo' that.
-
they had three days to come up with an edited version and they just uploaded the raw file instead? shit was painful, i bet their editor quit lol
aside from that, i thought this whole series was incredible. so much better than the berries flopground or the woodword minitramp stuff. last game was epic.
does anyone have any links to any parts from that kaue cossa guy? dude's got the b.a. death stare. i was rooting for him to take the whole thing.
-
Amazing series. Even though Lucas Marquez is rad, I'm kind of bummed that Kaue Cossa didn't win it. He's clearly one of the best ledge skaters I've ever seen, everything he did was so smooth and proper. Definitely hope to see a lot more of that guy.
-
this was amazing! 3rd and 4th place game took too long indeed. For a minute it looked like they had come to a dead end but the tricks they were trying were extremely difficult.
hyped for any of these dudes to get to the top, they are all ledge gods

I'd like an edited version but I also really dug the long form raw they released. These dudes go hard as hell and just keep going.
Brazil going win the gold.

Re-watched the 4th season of this recently on @sobreskate 's youtube page.
What happened with the "streets" version they were starting?
Why hasn't this been re-kindled by street league?
This might be my favorite contest series in skateboarding history, besides KOTR of course.
