He had an interview with like Green Zine saying for the new WKND video, he had a song and was filming for another full part. I figured he was gonna go pro. Surprised he only had four clips. Maybe shit got real with Vans, and his footy went to this. IDK. He did say in his Heaps Chat interview that he doesn't really communicate with anyone there much, though.

I don't think Johan has been on any trips with vans.
My guess would be Ronnie Sandoval or Tyson Peterson. Peterson obviously made a impact on the team when he went on tour with them, and is feature quite heavily in the latest Thrasher.

Because he had already quit once before for Habitat (they made him ride the shoes), so when he got back on, he wasn't a priority. Said in a Fos.fm interview that the new guys (Rizzo, Janderson) were deemed more important than him.
I don't see how anyone would think Johan isn't good enough. He's a far better skater than Ronnie Sandoval. That kickflip back smith at the end of American WKND was incredible. Dude's been gnarly for years. From big rails to tech ledge tricks and creative lines. I don't think he's getting on either, but he's more than good enough.

Maybe it also has something to do with the fact that Huf didn't see WKND as a proper board company at the time? Kinda the same situation with Ryan Lay.

Calling Johan "better" is like comparing apples to oranges. I doubt Johan will ever get the full nod from Vans though, he hardly holds a candle to how gnarly the rest of the team is- Rowan, Crockett, K Walk, Dan Lu... Ronnie fills a gap on vans somewhere between Elijah/TNT/Curren and Pedro/Perelson. With the Park Series posing to be the qualifier for "park style" events in the olympics, you know Vans wants the podium guys in that series and Ronnie fits that bill. Kinda like how Nike has taken over SLS and most of the guys in it...

I'm not one to start some lame debate but you can't compare what Dollin has done and continued to do for a decade+ to what Johan has done in the last five years or so. And this is coming from someone who fucking loves Johan.
I'm thinking it'll be Glick considering the buzz (if any) around the new Foundation video. Or am I thinking of the wrong person here?

Dollin in on legend status. He's been on Vans for almost 2 decades (think he got on around 98), was on of the first to take flip tricks on to massive rails and has had like 6 knee surgeries. Also, despite how broken he is, he's still trying to get tricks at gnarly spots like the Car Wash bank.

I met that Johan Stuckey fella 9 years ago when I lived in SF. Me and my friend Stu (Ryan Lay's older brother, we worked together taking phone orders for a gourmet cookie company) went to a party and were hanging out on the roof, Stu recognized him and the 3 of us hung out for a while. He was a real nice dude, I'm glad he's finding (long overdue!) success.

Saw it last night. Ryan Lovell premiered before the new Escapist video here in KC. The whole thing was really good, but Kyle Walker is on another level. He did some seriously fucked up tricks.

was kind of thinking the opposite. i liked this a lot. good format for a vans video. propeller was sick, but i started getting a little numb to how gnarly everything was. this kept me stoked all the way through.

I think a Vans pro shoe and clothing deal is a lot more than Nike pays. A Vans pro shoe probably a retirement level deal, plus i don't think Nikes reaching for too many dudes that aren't street league contest guys. From what i heard about Nike with Pro shoes is they aren't doing anymore cuz of the failure of most of the ones in the past, the only Pro models dudes are gonna get are just gonna be an SB version of retroed Nike shoe like Cory Kennedys shoe, i heard even Koston had to agree to allow his outsole to be used on other Nike shoes in order to get his shoe.

I heard Koston got on and has been actively working with them on making shoe tech, not being forced into it.

I back the Rowan Zorilla/Andrew Allen as the next Vans project. Anyway rewatched this thing a hundred times (basically everytime I notice on my newsfeed someone posted the video) and the grind with the FC Barcelona shirt was filmed from behind and you can watch the Swoosh less than a second so Im going to give props to the filmer cause Im pretty sure he was aware of the issue Im trying to explain. Talking the issue with a friend he pointed that a little piece of red tape on the shirt can solve the problem of the visible Swoosh on a Vans video. Im super picky with this but its almost 2017 and Nike SB is a huge deal by now and somehow Vans is still a warm safe place. But at the end of the day really didnt matter, I know.
Lucas Puig skated the FC Internazionale Milano jersey on Fully Flared but at that moment it didnt really matter at all the swoosh there, it was kinda out of context. Now that is a thing with the sports brands. Again with Lucas Puig, he is skating that Platini era retro jersey all the time. Alex Olson skates a lot with the US jersey team with the 917 on the back and even the local Adidas team on my country have a version of the Away Days jersey with the colours of the national flag.
Before someone starts with the fucking hate is there a thread somewhere on Slap about skating soccer jerseys ? I remember one about NFL jerseys a long time ago, maybe on Appreciation but pals knows how the Search box is not as great. My choice as my favorite was Kevin Long with the Chicago Bears jersey. Also should be one about NBA jerseys as well cause that Johnny Layton switch tre-flip with the OKC Thunder jersey is timeless.

Eh it was gnarly. Didnt want me to skate though, Im not jumping on multi kink rails. So this is the infamous k walks you guys talk about. I back him, I like his roll away antics and that last rail was unbelievable, well alot of shit he did was gnarly. But the thing I like the most was elijahs impossible/360 shove over the rail where it dinked it alittle. Needs more AA. I think this video had the most kinked rails Ive ever seen, and I dont know if thats a bad thing or just too gnar gnar for me. Im not hating by no means. But overall, that shit was kinda boring because it was to gnar with the rails? I dunno. I also noticed Rowan got rid off his 2% contrived style and went all out for this.

Also, even though everybody is going to ignore this point and rage over me making fun of some random slap idol, despite Kyle's hammers, I liked Elijah's part way more. At first I thought Elijah was lame, but he's grown on me, and now I really love his style and trick/spot selection.

AA's Hockey part was sick because he mixed in a lot of crustier and lesser skated LA spots. His skating is powerful and he does some unique gnarly switch stuff. He seems to be one of those dudes that looks like he might slam on every trick which makes it sicker. It seems like he's been coming out with a lot of quality footage in the past two years, more than ever.
I agree on the caveman nosegrinds being bullshit tho.
