I don't think he ever went fully pro but I know Dallas Rockvam and have friends that grew up skating with him. ? I also saw Riley Hawk sitting at a table at a restaurant. ? I didn't think it was him till I checked Instagram the next day and his band was playing that city.

When I lived in Atlanta, the restaurant I worked at was the hot spot for out-of-town teams. The Vans team, sans AVE, Dill, and Rowley, all came by on their last filming trip for Propeller in 2014; the New Balance team came in last fall; and the Quasi team came in several times last October.

Ran into Julien Stranger at a bar when the Vans team was in town in 2014 and I mentioned it to him (thinking he was with them) and he just said "yeah, I heard they were here, super random." So tight.

Bobby Worrest would spend random weeks down there, and one night I gave him a ride to trucker bar karaoke. He sat bitch, which I respect immensely.

Since moving to New York, beyond seeing people at the obvious hangouts, Alexis Sablone came into my work with a significant other the day I started; I saw Cyrus Bennett and Fat Bill cruising down Canal and Delancey, respectively; I passed Pete from Bronze trying to ride a bike with two girls on it last Friday in Brooklyn; and I walked by Popps in Union Square the other day.

I use to see Stevie Williams all the time last year. At the skatepark, at random "urban" events. The mall. I think his condo was in the same building as a friend of mind, based on his insta.

Pulled up to a little shitty prefab park to find the entire zero team warming up for the day. Nick Boserio was such a rad guy to skate with.  Jamie was actually pretty cool too.

EDIT- Also got to skate with David Clark and Grant in Atlanta. Ran into them at the old DIY there. They are both ridiculously good.

First that comes to mind, even though I don't remember if he went pro, was Jani Laitiala. Him, TX and some other dudes were skating my local spot and Jani was just chilling nearby where I was, dude farts hella loud and says "smells like strawberries" laughing.

Another good one is Darren Navarette and Jon Ponts trying to find a room in Vegas at the Fremont (where I worked front desk) this turned out to be that "It could've been a Buddy Holly story" Thrasher article. They had on the pilot hats and everything,so rad.

I literally ran into Jeff Lenoce beat boxing to himself leaving virgin records once.

I met Jeff Grosso at Hot Topic, which is embarrassing yet funny.

Ran into Appleyard in a herb shop a couple times. Even shot hoops with him in a Chucky Cheese style hoop while waiting to get tended to. I was chuckling on the inside.

Riding the bike one time on a 4th of July one year I saw Andrew Allen riding bikes with the rest of his family... he waved.

Saw Tempster at the pier a bit of times as well as riding bikes with Deanna. His house is oddly enough right behind my work.

Also, oddly enough Brian Sumner lived across the street from me for a few years and I also work with his father in law.

Tosh and his wife useta get deli meats sliced by me all the time and my sister in law was his daughters teacher for a couple years.

When I was clocking off of work one night I saw Jonas Wray checkin out. I wouldn't have noticed him except for the fact that he had a Media shirt on in like 2011.

John Lucero shops at my work on occasion. BS'ed with him about slappys, the Post Office curb, and how the team's doin all while weighin chicken breasts out for him.

Around the time of Stay Gold Marquis Preston came through... He got some chicken tenders. I hooked him up.

Alexis Sablone came into my work with a significant other the day I started

During Christmas '14 holidays I visited Boston/Cambridge with my gf. We went to a hipster type of coffee spot right in front of MIT, somehow Alexis Sablone was there drinking a cup right in front of us. So, in my french Canadian language I told my clueless GF how odd it was that while in Cambridge, we we're sitting in front of one the best female skateboarder that was in WHL. Then, right after I said the word Xgames (which can't be translated), she just starred quickly in my eyes, grabbed her cruiser board and left.

Saw her 2 more times that day, just cruising around in freezing cold weather, getting coffees at multiple locations and pushing on her own. It was awesome.

I think I posted this story on here in a similar thread a few years back but in 2010 or 2011 my band was playing a show in New Haven, CT, and after it was over we wanted to grab some food before driving home. So we stopped at this falafel place at 1am and Ellington was in front of me in line. So random. Deathwish just happened to be on tour, haha. I just said hi, told him I skated, asked how he was, and that was that. Boring story but he was super friendly and you don't catch too many pros in New England, let alone at 1am grabbing snacks haha.

I've met Jamiel Nowpavar--a local pro in MN--on two occasions. He's a nice dude. Not pros but I've seen both CJ Tambornino (RIP) and Jack Olson (back when he was like 16) skating at 3rd Lair, they both ripped. Not me but slap pal gnarwahl and I went to the same high school and a year before I got there, he saw the crailtap guys were skating this six stair in front of it. They shot a chocolate ad in the parking lot.

Ran into chris cole at the philly airport, he was about to go on tour with zero and mystery, this was like 2007. I asked what the name of the video was, they were touring to premier the new mystery video at the time. It had ads out, that said "black and white tour" but wasn't sure what the name was and he just paused for like 5 seconds and said "ummmmm yeahhhh....I don't know..." still makes me smile.

Coming home for Christmas freshman year I flew from Boston to OC with Rune Glifberg across the aisle from me.  I introduced myself before the flight and we made polite chatter.  A man arrived who was going to sit next to him and asked if we wanted to sit together, which he politely declined.

My LA ones don't seem as special, but I've been shopping at Trader Joe's and seen Doughnut and Lenoce on separate occasions, got a haircut next to Koston, and had Davis Torgeson in the patio area my group of regulars had claimed for smoking and watching World Cup 16 matches

Once 16 or so years ago at my now demolished local a van rocked up and Childress, Cardiel, Carnie and others including maybe Tony Trujillo (I think it was a Vans/Big Brother tour). Cardiel didn't skate but I was sitting next to him on a bench. My friend asked Carnie to do 'something funny', I don't remember his exact wording, but he pissed on the side of the RV they showed up in.

In Portland, 2013, I saw Jason Dill smoking cigarettes outside of that coffee shop next to Hungry Tiger Too. He was wearing a Supreme box logo shirt inside out, and I thought he was just a random guy that was trying to look like Dill until I asked him what his name was. He was super nice and polite and easy to talk to. He said he'd just woken up and it was about 3:30 pm. 8/10 would meet again.

There's this hip burger place that started as a street food van years ago but was so wildly successful that it now has multiple locations in London as well as more around the U.K. And has even gone international. They opened up one across the street from my gaff so close I can see it from my window. One night I went out the front door of my building to walk my dog and as I stepped out and waited for my wife to come down the stairs I noticed Benny Fairfax running across the street with a bag of burgers and fries in one hand and a shake in the other. He was running towards a waiting Uber and when he got in he apologised to the driver for taking so long and said it was really busy in there. He offered the driver some fries but the driver declined. Benny closed the Uber door and they went on there way. Benny has obviously caught the Uber to the burger joint on his way home so I'm wondering how long he made that driver wait and how much it cost him. Adidas/Palace money must be good.

was in london last year and stopped by slam city skates where blondey and benny fairfax were hanging out on the front porch. Benny fairfax was wearing some palace tracksuit, a gold chain, couple gold rings and combined the track suit with some expensive looking gucci moccasins/ slippers.....kinda way over the top dressed  but still looked cool as hell. I said hi and everyone was friendly.

Couple years before i went to slam citys old shop and jerome campbell hung out there....he had a bet going with one of the shop guys and so he started to jump over people standing nearly straight wich was hilarious to watch!

at LES i ran into shane o'neill and sean malto cause there was street league in new jersey the next weekend. Malto stood right next to me on the top of the bank. when i realized that it was him i kinda looked at him for some time cause i thought he was just one kid dressing like him (there were a bunch of malto clones at the park that day). after a couple seconds he gave me the "yeah it is really me" look wich was kinda funny. we talked a bit and he was very friendly. he also did a stationary switch flip next to me for warm up....waist high! half an hour later he just ran out of the park and pushed away because the kids wouldnt let him skate. he was in the middle of what must have been 100 kids wanting to talk to him or sign autographs. poor guy was too nice to let them know he was here to skate...

the most random one was going up to jefferson skatepark from our airbnb only to see heath kirchart as the first person skating there. He looked like he was out to kill someone. straight psycho beam all the time....he 360 flipped up the euro gap, hung up with his back truck and ate soooo much shit where i started to worry- got up like nothing happened and did it next try. blindside flipped the quarterpipe hip waaayyy too high and ate it pretty bad 5 or six times.....psycho beamed at his board and just skated on like nothing happened!

Had a BBQ at a friend's place and we started bombing the hill she lived in. I never fucked with a hill and my friend that has never skated bombed it and I tried...and ate massive shit. We chilled and then went to 7-Eleven, while there Johan Stuckey pulled up. i fanned out got a picture and he told me he was giving his sister a tour of LA.

I also saw Fabian Alomar at my local chatting with the guys that worked there. Didn't knwo who he was and at the time the shop had a mural of him. Pretty chill guy.

Was at a Skate more demo/premiere around 2005 at Krush skate park in Tinley Park, IL and Kalis showed up at random, skated more than the DVS team and did a burnout in the parking lot on his way out in a cool looking silver car.

Went to an arcade bar after the Propeller premiere in Chicago and after I was done playing a Playboy pinball machine a friend of mine pointed out that Heath Kirchart was playing the pinball machine right next to me. Later, I went outside to have a cigarette with my friends and caught him walking into the night, I ended up just kind of staring after him...

I went and visited a friend in Kansas City and stayed at said friend's house and they said Gershon Moseley lived in the basement. On the last day, I went to the fridge to grab my medicine and he was just there doing dishes. Said good morning and said what's up, but didn't want to bother him too long.

Some good stories here. Love this thread.
I got a few...

Summer '95 in NYC trip with a friend, we had the Brooklyn Banks to ourselves for a good hour. We were resting and suddenly we hear boards rolling and around the corner comes most of the Girl/Choco team. Most memorable were Ben Sanchez snacking on Thermos with warm spaghetti, Mike York spoke to us for a while and cheered Carroll to FS flip the Jersey barrier, Sheffey... Saw Koston next day at some skateshop along with Lance Mountain and Gabe Rodriguez and some other guys.
Also at the banks two/three days later Consolidated team with Alan Peterson, Karma, the Paez bros. maybe, and Robbie Gangemi was with 'em.
Bought a FIT complete from Stevie W. at Astor Place one night. Billy Waldman sold me a stinky pair of Airwalk Jason Lee's. Shoulda pulled only $40 but for $60 I thought I was getting a deal.
Met Keenan briefly as we skated past Supreme one day. Stopped and said hi. He was super humble and approachable. RIP. That was a great trip. If I find the pics, I'll scan.

Dyrdek going to a photo lab I used to work at (sure there were other people along them Atiba maybe?) talking about a Blabac shot. Years later I ran into Rob Dyrdek again with AVE and Kalis in Miami. Talked for a bit and they were super chill and was waaaay before Rob D. did his TV thing.

Latest one was Renaud at a store in Miami. He had his new Rottweiller that had been abused. Lotta people were around the dog and he told them a great story about his father or grandfather and military K9 unit or something of the sort. Didn't say hi and be the awkward dude.

Edit: Found a vid of Carroll's flip. I am wearing my Consolidated smart monkey shirt. I am in the background at :07 sec mark. all navy blue.

I tried to get into the ASR show years and years ago. I couldn't get in so I just lurked around. I ran into Markovich at the nearby hotel. I walked right up and introduced myself. He was super cool and invited me to go with him and Don Nyguen to  a local music venue and he said he'd buy me a beer. I was so stoked but I was only 17 and decided not to get in the cab. The embarrassment of rolling with those dudes and getting denied once we got there just wasn't worth it. It was cool to meet him though and he was cool to me. Also ran into the muska that weekend but he was kind of a dick.

Another time I was rolling around downtown and I came across my high school football coach. We were chatting it up and outta no where big black walks up and they hug and start talking. The dc video had just come out and I recognized him immediately. I introduced myself and he was genuinely a nice guy. They all went to some club and again I was too young to!go at the time.

Used to frequent bars in SF Mission District in my 20s. Once I was drunk and by myself for some reason. I saw Jake Phelps eating a burrito at a really random taqueria - not one of the popular ones. I just stood outside and smoked a cigarette and watched him eat his burrito. Kind of a "life is beautiful" moment.

I used to always see Eli Reed in SF mission too skating fast in and out of traffic. Always had my respect after those sightings because he seemed like a genuine skate rat.

I would run into a decent amount of pros growing up in Orange County and skating UCI all the time, but one of my favorite interactions happened on the phone. I started skating in 5th grade, and the summer after I started, my friend on my street and I would go through skate mags and call up the phone numbers and ask for free stickers. Surprisingly the majority of them said sure, and we got packets of stickers shipped to us all summer. It was rad.

So during this calling raid, I called DVS and they agreed, but when I gave them my shipping information and name, (my last name is Bacon), the person on the phone stopped and started going off on me. He said, "The fuck you talking about Bacon? Ain't nobody named Bacon. Man, you know who this is? This is Sean Sheffey!! Get out of here with that shit." And then hung up on me.

I was really confused because I just started skating and had no idea who he was or his legendary status. I called back later, and talked to someone else and he explained that Sheffey sometimes answers the phones for fun and thought I was prank calling him.

Anyways, I ended up getting my stickers from them and got to talk to Sean Sheffey as 10 or 11 year old. Fun times.

I've been trying to manual to manual from tranny to flat (I also didn't want to just sit there and watch them), so I was just doing something basic, couldn't really get a hang of it, but when I finally got it Daewon got so stoked for me and screamed "YES!" when i finally got it, I got super happy, caught me off guard that he was actually watching me. A little bit after, I asked Chase what they were filming for and he told me it was for The Berrics. Soon enough, a new video from The Berrics is up with Daewon and I'm in the background for a split second looking like a goof. Side note: I remember Daewon complaining about his Andale Bearings being too sticky, which is funny to me because I've never heard a pro complaining about his sponsors before.

Rodney Mullen & Louie Barletta: Met Rodney & Louie at Agenda Fest recently, I was completely shook when I met Rodney, because y'know its Rodney. I was stuttering my words and shaking, but I got a picture with him and told him he's a huge inspiration and he said thanks. Louie was apart of the whole meet and greet, but he was mainly hanging back because people were mainly there for Rodney, he got super stoked that people were still fanning out to Rodney. When i went over to him I shook his hand and asked him about KOTR, he said there's a bunch of twists and turns and to wait on it. Both cool dudes.

Random People & Random Instances: Saw Jason Dill once outside of Supreme, wanted to say hi, but he's really intimidating, at the same time he was getting mad at some kid for not knowing a certain skate brand or something like that. Saw Mike Carroll walking down Fairfax, but I wasn't completely sure it was him, so I yelled "MIKE" from my moving car, I see him turn his head and look confused.

Agreed. I mean the dude has his own shoe for awhile and has been on chocolate for sooooo long. Idk hope they're still paying him more than royalties. You think he'd still be making some Money of his shoe, even though Its dvs. I know it's expensive now to live in the Bay Area, but damn...

Talked to him for a good minute during the ride, dude was cool as hell and told me he was just doing it to stay busy and rake in some easy extra dough on the side before he went skating later in the day. Ride was at like 8 in the morning and he said he'd only be doing it until around 10 or so. Didn't really seem like he was driving out of necessity or anything

Was at a skatepark one night around 2011 when the entire slave team showed up. Pat Burke walked in the main entrance and chugged the rest of his beer and threw it into the trash can. Everyone was destroying the bowl there, and I managed to talk to Pat for a minute. He ended up drinking quite a bit more and then he skated the bowl better than the rest of them. He was funny as hell, he would just eat shit, and laugh about it.

I also played a game of SKATE with Ronnie Creager up a euro gap... except he was skating switch. He beat me so bad. I think i got him to "S". He is super nice and insanely consistent.

EDIT:
I was at the Phoenix Am a long time ago when it was at a different skatepark. It was the best trick and I found a spot to sit at. This dude walks up and sits down right next to me, and starts chit-chatting. I was almost like.. Yo who are you man, why are you talking to me. He was going on about how this person was really good, or the park is rad.. just kinda rambling. Next thing I know he gets up and walks to the podium to get a trophy. Ended up being Ishod ahahaha

Went to Barcelona at the same time as the 2016 streetleague was there. Ran into Eric Bragg at night at placa reial, he bought bought us a sixpack of beer and talked to us for a while. Told us he was there to be some kind of mentor to Joslin.

Later at the club we also ran into Ishod, Evan Smith, KB and Nyjah etc. Most of the guys were cool and on fire but when we went to talk to Nyjah who was standing alone he looked pretty bored and only gave us short answers, did not seem very interested. Anyway it was cool to see all of those guys.

Since moving to New York, beyond seeing people at the obvious hangouts, Alexis Sablone came into my work with a significant other the day I started; I saw Cyrus Bennett and Fat Bill cruising down Canal and Delancey, respectively; I passed Pete from Bronze trying to ride a bike with two girls on it last Friday in Brooklyn; and I walked by Popps in Union Square the other day.

what restaurant in atlanta? going down thursday.

i'll share two stories, one i'm ashamed of, one i'm stoked on

first one involves marcus mcbride back in 2010, night time session at the library in SF, i was just catching up with homies there and then we were supposed to go skate and film throughout the whole night, that was when yoan taillandier and leo valls were there to film for the first magenta hill street blues video. so i arrive there, say hi, skate for a while, take a break. then a certain other skater shows up and yoan is like holy shit, that's marcus mcbride ! dude shows up with a massive blunt, smokes half of it then passes it around and proceeds to skate like it's nothing. i watch him skate and the blunt eventually reaches our group and i'm surprised to see noone's really touched it. jimmy lannon is sitting next to me and gets the thing, takes one hit, starts coughing up like crazy (if you've ever been around him, you know that never happens) and passes it over to me right away. so here i am sitting on the corner of the ledge with nearly half a blunt and noone else wants it, so i just go on to smoke the whole thing like it's nothing - marcus mcbride is still killing it in front of me after all so what could go wrong. 15 mins later the whole shit kicks in and i'm absolutely knocked off my shoes, fucking destroyed. can't move my legs, cold sweating, shaking. i was fairly new to smoking weed at the time (started late), but i don't think that was it. never in my life had i been so smashed and the dude in front of me was there doing perfect 360 flips and shit. i waited for what felt like an hour to try and gather my spirits and tried to stand on my board, i usually enjoy skating high but that time felt impossible. everyone started to dip to go film, when i just wanted to go to sleep and hadn't even had a meal in forever so i said fuck it, said good bye, dragged my ass out of there and on the way home i hit up the fucking carl jr's, ordered a fat menu and just sat in there for a while, trying to eat but really probably just looking stupid smearing the greasy shit fries all over my face.

other, better story is a lot more recent and involves teaching yaje popson ollie impossibles and seeing him land his first ones ever in front of me thanks to my tips. dude was genuinely stoked on them too. i've been hyped on that memory like a little kid and waiting for footage of him doing one at a spot to pop up ever since

I saw Chris Dobstaff 12 or 13 years ago at an airport as he was waiting for a flight. Right before they started boarding, I walked up to him and said "Chris Dobstaff?" He looked up from staring down his puffy Osiris shoes and said "yeah, what." At that point I turned around and just walked away without saying anything, since he seemed agitated and I didn't want him to heelflip my head into the ground on some hate crime shit.

I saw Cam'ron in traffic when I was driving around with my old girl on the South Fork. Since Dipset had a board out on DGK around this time, I'd say this counts. I rolled my window down and asked him how the king of NY was wearing open toed sandals with jeans, and he said "I can smell your cologne from here nigga, you wearing Dro For Men tonight too?" We then parted ways forthright and without explanation, and my friend still has the Dipset x DGK board at his mom's house.

One time, I saw Ronnie Creager at an old skate shop that used to exist on Long Island called Special Sauce. Him and some Asian dude were watching a skateboard video, and they were both trying to call the tricks that people were going to do before they did them, and you could tell Ronnie had already seen the video. I think it was the newest 411 that was out at the time. It was funny, because the Asian man was looking at him like he was some sort of skate video watching champion because Ronnie was calling out tricks before guys were even setting up for them. I was 13 at the time, and I couldn't tell who the Asian man was; it definitely wasn't Gideon Choi, because he was there in another room. My friend told me to get him to autograph something to see who he was, and I gave him this old Blind hat that my friend was wearing. He signed it with a fucking box with a line at the top. This Asian man will forever be an unidentified mystery in my eyes, and I question if he even really existed sometimes.

Those are the only stories that I have that have any sort of context besides "I saw this guy here, and nothing else noteworthy happened." That list would be too long, and too boring/ forgettable.

After skatin a spot then riding my bike a good distance to skate that one high ledge in HB/Sunset Beach I came up on Andre Genovasi skatin it with a an entourage (he was the only one skatin). There was a maneuver I wanted to try/do but he pretty much shut me down before I started, saying it was his 3rd or 4th time there. Pretty much claimed the ledge for himself cuz he had a dude videotaping it and I didn't... Guess those are the rules in Brazil.

In 2000 or so went up skatin Beverly High with a pre-Baker Herman (he might've been on World flow at the time). After 5minutes a van pulled up and out came Arto, Atiba, Trainwreck, Moul, Evan Hernandez, Ellington, Appleyard, and more.

Arto went right into SS360flips off the 9 and was getting close. I was young n pulled out my video camera to capture it when he proceeded to chew me out. Found out someone poached one of his tricks and put it in their video at the time.

Remember thinkin Trainwreck looks like he just got outta prison.

Mouly tried ollieing the 9 n ate shit like 4 times, chugged a beer then went straight to kickflipping it.

Appleyard got outta the van kicky'ed the 5 then front boarded the 9 first go. Went right back up, told whoever it was filming he was ready, then first try nollie flip then nollie front board. Later on when Sorry came out I was stoked cuz some friends n I got in the background of that clip.

That day was also the first time Herman grinded somethin really gnarly at the time... the Wilshire 15. He was stoked and I remember him showin the footage to Evan and Evan bein really impressed as well.

a few that stick out over the years:

went to Barcelona with the shop I used to skate for, and ended up at a spot with Kalis and a bunch of the Habitat team.  a ton of cops rolled up out of nowhere and took all of our boards, arrested Stefan Janowski, and somehow Kalis talked them into giving him whatever was left of his focused board back.  He said something about not wanting to break in new trucks (he actually rode Silvers while he was sponsored by them).  He ended up back at the place we were staying at (his filmer in Barcy made the videos for the shop I rode for).  Didn't fan out or anything, but Kalis has always been one of my favorites.  I was kind of Ethan Fowlered out at the time, and I was kind of bummed that he probably thought I was a kook. Still, pretty cool sitting in the corner listening to Kalis stories and watching footage.

I lived in SF for a while so I ran into most early 2000's pros that were around that time.   Van was always really cool.  Most of the time people you think would be dicks were cool, and vice versa.  I was skating Junipero Serra one day when the Habitat dudes showed up and got cool guyed by Danny Renaud pretty hard.  I think I actually told him "what, you can't say hello back to someone youre skating a spot with" like a tough guy.  Saw Busenitz there a bunch.  Junipero Serra was my favorite spot of all time. I showed up there one day the whole Pig team was skating.  You could practically see the dirt all over them from the road, so I got back in the car and left.  NExt weekend the ripped the spot out and I never got to skate it again.  Always regret not skating there one last time.

A friend and I went out to San Diego on an ill fated trip to stay with Justin Roy when he first moved out there and got sponsored.   Greg Harris was hanging with him and quickly determined that we were not cool enough.  The next day we end up skating with Markovich.  We go to a kind of lame spot, Justin and Markovich focus their boards in anger, and we head back to the house.  We're used to skating all day every day at that time, so my friend asks "what are we gonna be a bunch of pussies, or are we gonna skate some more"? For some reason,Markovich took it as my friend calling him a pussy and got in his face.  i thought they were gonna fight.  We got back to the house and we were 86'd.  Stuck in San Diego for a month with no where to stay.  Kind of my first California wake up call seeing all the high school cool-guy shit that goes down in that world.  We worked it out and found a place to stay and had fun skating on our own, so no big deal in the end.  It sucked meeting Markovich under those circumstances.  He was kind of a regional hero, so that wasn't what I expected.  Hearing him complain about getting ripped off by spitfire and other companies was a bummer too.  seemed like these dudes had zero fun skating.  My friend could be pretty annoying, so not totally putting the blame on those guys

in high school a few friends and i were skating some dinky little ledge in downtown la and jim greco pulled up to the side of us in his cadillac and started chatting with us for a few minutes. he was really nice. kept saying he wished he had his board with him so he could skate with us.

on my 12th birthday i went to chino skatepark. the parked was super crowded and when i was little i was super nervous to skate in front of people. ed templeton was skating there though. i believe he was filming for kids in emerica. went back tot he car. turns out he was parked right next to us. so i wanted to say hi. he was awesome. drew me a picture on the back of my little award i got from school. also complimented a backside 5-0 i did... oh, saw nyjah there once too.

marquise henry and josh kalis showed up to skate this school in corona that we were sessioning. they weirdly enough didnt even really acknowledge us.

We're both from the Chicago area, so I've seen him a bunch over the years.

My last apartment was in the same complex, and across from the Birdhouse filmer's place. Clint Walker was staying with him for a while, and some of the team would meet up there to go skate. Kind of didn't want to try be "that dude", but we chatted it up sometimes and Clint gave us his extra boards he didn't want.

That made me remember my birdhouse one.

I was skating at Denver skatepark last summer one afternoon.  I saw this older silver haired dude skating around who looked crazy familiar.  Eventually I brought it up with a friend and we thought it might be Jason Hernandez.  At some point he was pretty close and paused for a second so I just asked "Hey are you Jason Hernandez?" and he replied with a friendly yea.  We chatted for a brief moment, he was in town filming the birdhouse team.  I told him he was a really great filmer and he said thanks.

Later that night I was at our local bar and saw Clint Walker and Clive Dixon.  Talked with Clint at the bar for a sec, he was surprisingly friendly.  He was wearing a Shaqueefa shirt and trying really hard to hit on girls.

Lizard King at Whole Foods shopping with his daughter

Salman Agah at a vegan Mexican restaurant. He sat next to me at the bar and we chatted. Cool dude.

Neen Williams at same restaurant. Sat at table over from me with a lady friend. Don't think they said much to each other, they were both on their phones constantly.

Aaron Meza on flight back from the bay to LA. I was wearing a 4star hat. I think he noticed it but his face didn't reveal if he thought I was down or a kook

Cardiel, Joey Tershay and Jovantae Turner sat next to me at lunch. When they left Cards  forgot his phone. I took it to him, told them I recognized them and they were super cool. Threw a shout out as they drove away.

Lizard King, Nuge and maybe some others at a Metz show. They stank.

2004 Pappalardo at Macba (expected). 2005 Papallardo walking down the street in Chelsea NYC. Flew from LA to see a girl and met her at her work. As I got there Pops was walking towards me with board in hand. And that time I think he was just maybe getting on Chocolate and he had a SJ board. Felt like I was insider to know he was on Chocolate before the general public in the pre social media days

Koston, also getting a haircut. Rudy's Silver Lake

Danny Garcia at Belle and Sebastian show

Dill crossing the street on Fairfax and Beverly so many times at night

Nick Tershay out at the club in 2006 or 2007. I asked him if he knew anything about the Lakai video, not sure why. I think this was pre Nick Diamond days

Some older ones are kinda fading.

Numerous other skate related sightings most notably AVE, Koston, Carroll and Jereme Rogers at Belmont filming/shooting photos with Scuba, Atiba and Ty. That was so sick. I think this was before Yeah Right came out because Koston was trying the fakie tre down the 9 line. Got close but didn't make it. After a try where he stuck the tre but didn't roll away some of those there clapped/cheered but he yelled out "Do you have any idea how annoying that is?!!?" What a dick

I ran into Mike Carroll checking out a flat gap in Berlin today. It was rainy, he was with a German skate photographer and he did not have a board with him. He had a large bottle of water (non-sparkling) in his left hand. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt and baggy blue cargo pants. It was the highlight of my day.

Peter Smolik

I was in San Diego for a GIS convention and after a work dinner I wanted more beers. I went to a sports bar near the baseball stadium. Right around closing time, Smolik entered, beer tab chain and all. I was about to leave so I gave him props and was expecting to leave. He was fucking hyped, he pulled out his iPhone with a super shattered screen and we watched old video parts of his (not the shortys videos, maybe some local thing). We had a beer or two and he asked me what I wanted to do, I wanted more drinks but he was like nah everything is closed. He invited me to come along with him and some nerd type dude who was driving. I hopped in the back seat of some busted kind of Acura and we went to pick up some smokes, I bought Smolik a pack of American Spirits. He again asked me what I wanted to do! I asked for a ride back to my hotel. We cruised, jamming e40 and Smolik kept shared his tall boy of pbr with me. When we got to the hotel we smoked a few more cigs and I asked him for a pic. He was hyped, we jumped on two newspaper stands and did the sk8 mafia sign. He looked at the picture and said damn the sign is upside down, it was. He gave me his number and told me to hit him up the next day. I didn't because of work obligations

Say what you want. Smolik rules, is a straight skate rat and could not have been cooler to me

Not sure how it is now because I don't skate enough anymore but still follow it but growing up in the East Coast and the contest scene you'd run into the East Coast pros in Worcester Providence or Boston all the time at contests or at spots. It's just how it was. Randomly skate with Barley, Pupeci, Jamal Williams, Matt Pailes, PJ , Gallant, Jay Maxwell etc just because they were at spots. My best memories were old demos with Vallely Ed Templeton and Dune. Then a 101 demo with Koston and fucking Natas . I mean when the fuck are you going to skate with Natas !!!  I've even seen Donger and Sheffey. Also seen lots of pros when they did gravity games and X games in providence actually street skating downtown when Koston was an absolute beast like larger sessions at a spot with 10 or more pro's. Specifically old lady banks if you know providence.

I ran into Brandon Biebel a few weeks ago in Hollywood at a farmer's market. He was with a girl who I believe he got pissed at because she couldn't make up her mind on what type of smoothie she wanted.

He went off to the side and had a cigarette.

Then the other day, Ishod pulls up beside me in his car. We both look at each other, he throws up a shacka.
I throw up one too, tell him he's the man and we both drive off.

About to go to the next spot, I was in a van with tinted windows. Nick Boserio came right up to my window and picked his nose, using the window as a mirror without realizing he was looking me right in the eye. Wasn't introduced to him until the next spot. He didn't skate all that much but was hyped on everyone else and shredded and had tantrums when he did.

Went to a bar with a bunch of the Bowlarama pros. I was on shrooms and not too sociable, so I threw bits of bark from the garden at Rune Glifberg and he never caught me. At one point I recognized Dave Bachinsky and shouted 'Oi Dave,' without thinking it through. He came up and talked to me for a while and was real friendly. He said he'd never taken shrooms, but I should talk to this guy about it, pointing to some other guy who was with them that I didn't recognize.

See Lee Ralph out drinking a bit. He laughs a lot and seems to be able to read minds to some degree.

I got more than a few- justn Eldridge gave me a Nollie trick tip as a kid and I drunkenly saw him at black and he remembered or at least lied about it but maybe not as were from the same time and my friend dates his sister. Cyril was also there that night and just walked up and gave me a fist bumped when i double took to figure out why I recognized him.

Drunkenly yelled hey you're Johan Stuckey at johan stuckey, see him a lot at Ralphs actuallly. Lizard king just randomly shook my hand at an art show I was at once. My mom actually had some long ass talk with Reynolds at a demo as she went full mom mode to get some order to the product toss. And then the rotating cast of dudes out front supreme you see just walking by but that don't count.

I was at Ayala Park and the Emerica guys were there after a signing. I was chillin outside the fence and Skate Talk Bob walks up and asks if I've seen Heath and I look over and he's blasting a kickflip on a hip, so sick

Though my favorite Chino park story (I might've posted this before) is going on a Tuesday afternoon and getting denied by two security guards because Nyjah was filming that cracker commercial haha

Another one: I was skating a spot alone and a dog runs by me and a minute later Dane Burman walks by. I nodded and said what's up Dane and he asks if I've seen a black dog run by here

One more I remembered: I went to an active once and Christian Maalouf and I think Taylor Caruso were skating outside and Maalouf and I were wearing the same pair of State's and both wearing Brixton hats, he looked me up and down and said, "tight"

I spent some time in Sydney and saw some people skating a set of stairs as I was pushing towards a bar so I figured I'd stop and watch. 2 dudes skating and a couple others filming. A few others were also spectating and one happened to be Dane Burman. He walked by me while I was observing the session and was probably confused by my AntiHero deck combined with my Supra Ellingtons.

Me and a pal flew were on a trip in California and flew from SF to LA to go watch Ethan Fowlers bands record launch gig.
Spoke to him for a little while and was super hyped as he is one of my all favourites.
Later he pulls up in his van and yells 'Yo English dudes lets go party'
Jumped in the back of his van and went to his house to party.

Sidenote - The next morning I woke up with a stinking hangover and dropped maybe the biggest turd of my life in his toilet, needless to say that was the icing on the cake for me.

Not "full pros" at the time, but pretty famous now (skatewise):

I skated with the Les blobys crew at the republique plaza (then recently refurbished) in a cold winter of 2015
I'm from Chile so I didn't knew who they were at all, thought they were just locals (they are anyway); talked to them, smoked some, filmed tricks and then they invited me to go around paris skating and looking for spots, such an amazing time, everyone was blasting shit all around. We ended the session at Nozbone, got some free shit, bought some other and went back home with a happy face

At the metro, looking the Kingping mag they gave me I found out who they were, and why they were so good at skating: it was Remy taveira, Roman Gonzalez, Kevin Rodriguez, blobygreg and few other dudes.

It was the only day I skated in Paris and it was freaking perfect, great memories.  ;D

some clips I got from that day

A couple funny ones-

Saw Andrew Reynolds literally get thrown out of a bar (the bouncer had him by the collar and pushed him through the front door) after the premier of The Storm in San Diego in 1999.

I was sleeping on a floor of some random skaters that let me crash in SF and Lavar McBride came in, sat on the couch, and played THPS as Kareem. I was such a fan but I just played it off like I didn't care so I didn't look like a kook.

I was smoking a cig in front of Kilowatt in SF and Scott Bourne came stumbling out of the darkness, stopped in front of me holding an empty 40 oz, and said "Would it be improper etiquette if I just smashed this bottle in the street?" I just mumbled "I don't think so". He walked into the middle of the street (stopping traffic) and just smashed the bottle. Then walked into the bar without saying another word.

I was skating a little school by where I grew up in Illinois and out of nowhere a white van pulls up with a bunch of Foundation/Toy Machine guys. They just jump out and start skating. Heath and Josh Beagle played basketball the whole time. Berra kickflip 5-0'd the ledge and then started screaming that the spot sucked. I have no idea who told them about the spot or anything, such a weird surprise.

I also had a long story I posted here about going on a family vacation when I was about 15 and running randomly into Muska right when he got on Toy Machine. I had never heard of him at the time but we skated together for a few hours that day and just hung out. A year later he was a giant skate mega star. Still have the devil cat stickers he gave me.

I have tons of other random ones just from my California years.

I already mentioned this years ago but Pontus Alv rules. I met him at Ultrabowl in 2012 when In search of the miraculous was still recent video and polar was starting and it was the OG team which I preferred.
I had a friend shooting a photo of me with him. Then me and my friends went home (Monty Burns appartment lol) and watched that video again, it was their first time and they were mindblown. We wanted to get physical copies so we mailed him, he gave us his mobile and we went to the polar HQ. It was crazy going there, he showed us some clips from a recent gothenburg trip that were going to the edits he did after. We thanked and said goodbye and went to ICA to buy some food. As we were eating chicken outside of the store he saw us while driving his OG turquoise VW polo/golf and waved at us and honked. We replied 'oh yeah oh yeah oh yeeeah'. I know it's nothing special but it was so fucking sick for us.

Edit: I want to smoke pot and listen to 67 with Lucien Clarke once in my life. He's the boss.

i met pontus in malmo around the same time frame too. super rad dude, he was still running polar out of his apartment when i did though. long story short i had just been buying bulks of his artwork (photo prints, his hellozine book 'social structures for the asocial type', the in search of the miraculous deck... etc.) through his old in search of the miraculous website as a way to say thanks for finally completing & releasing a sequel to the strongest of the strange (my favorite video ever at the time - although i really didn't feel like in search of the miraculous was as spontaneous, authentic & magical). eventually i told him i was going to copenhagen for a few days with my girlfriend and he told me we should meet up. girlfriend & i ended up staying in malmo for 3 days and he was super chill the whole time. drove us around, took us to indian restaurants, bars, smoothie places - we even went to some fancy 5-star hotel just to order cheap beers from their bar because apparently, that was a joke he liked to pull. kept doodling shit on little notes the whole time and giving them to us saying 'this is money'. had coffee at his place with his girlfriend's collection of headless dolls sitting on the heater and that patio he had built himself, we discussed many things skating from DIY to old videos etc. he had like 3 copies of minuit laying around. he also brought us to bryggeriet, and we went on a street session around malmo with nils svensson (i filmed the no-comply lipslide pontus did at TBS that he shot, pontus sold the print of it on his site for a while, i actually ended up buying one later), and oski when he was still 'little oski' and pontus was still mentoring him. also went to the then-unskatable steppe side. i had a brand new complete i had just bought in copenhagen and couldn't adjust to the trucks so my skating sucked the whole time. pontus also tried to have me film lines of him fisheye with his vx at TBS but gave up on the idea ten minutes later because it didn't look the way he intended and i was 'shaky as fuck'.

recently got to catch up with him over facetime to interview him for a french mag. was rad getting in touch again because we hadn't talked much ever since polar became so legit (and time-consuming). we ended up shooting the shit about old videos again, european pros from the early 90's and the movie thrashin' / skate gang. 200% passion-driven skate rat

Also, major shoutout to Monty Burns for hosting 3 complete strangers at his house for 2 weeks, with only me being the one he known (only here on slap). Gnar him if you see his posts, nicest guy, I reminisce the most about this trip. Happy days.

Late 90's to mid/late 2000's; pretty sure I am missing a few:

- Danny Castillo with his girlfriend at Six Flags.

- Warner Ave crew at HB High a few times; on one occasion was skating the manual pads inside the school when Rowley showed up to skate them by himself.

- Vans Park sightings: Anthony Carney, Patrick Melcher, talked to a photographer shooting someone in the combi pool; turned out to be Theo Hand.

- Arto at Mother's Kitchen. I was looking down and saw black eS accels with white paint spots and was not surprised to see that it was him.

- Tom Penny and his wife at Best Buy.

- Chet Thomas at his shop, Aftermath. They had several locations over the years but the first one was right next to Murdy park.

- Lance Mountain filming the intro/outro to 411VM 44 at the mall. The filmer pointed the camera at me since they saw me watching but I didn't make the final cut. Also saw Lance and Rodrigo TX at Carl's Jr.

- Jonas Wray at a bar in downtown HB.

- Dave Bachinsky while he was staying with a filmer from Maine that went to my college.

In terms of recent sightings (within the last few years):

- Rowley at a firing range in HB.

- Muska held the door for me while he was leaving / I was entering Real Food Daily in LA. Also saw Steve-O eating there once.

- Fairfax sightings: Scott Johnston, Tino, Thom Yorke with his son at the Diamond store

- I thought I had ran into Atiba in West Hollywood, but it was his brother Ako.

- Dill outside of his usual coffee spot on Fairfax. Talked a bit about his OC days and old spots, namely the Mile Square ledges where he had an opening line in a 411 chaos that he obviously didn't remember but I brought up anyways.

Talked to Dan Lu and Gilbert Crockett tonight at House of Vans. Daniel really is as nice as everyone said he is, even said he liked my shirt (I was wearing my Toy Machine shirt). Gilbert was cool as well, told him I was a big fan of his Life Splicing part and shit. Chaz Ortiz also showed up and laid waste to the mini ramp. Saw a lot of the rest of Vans team too but didn't talk to them unfortunately.

I'm old now, started skating in a time when there weren't so many skaters and you got hassle in the street for skating. There was no money in it, few parks and "known" spots but the streets were ours - no skatestoppers or public awareness. Because of this skaters from all over pretty much just got along (with a few exceptions) regardless of how good anyone was - loving skating was a common bond. So I've plenty of stories from back in the day.

Penny was a little skate rat from the next town when I first met him. He was good friends with my friend- they would skate all day then sleep in dumpsters behind clothing shops at night to start again the next day. Seeing them made me immediately realise skating would just be a fun thing for me - I would never get close to being as naturally good as either of them. So many stories- I remember once we were in danger of
Missing our last train home - he told us to wait and came back with a stolen bike for each of us so we
Could make the train. He always hated one of my friends because he once stole his sweets

Did a trip round Europe with Tas and Renton. Both were nice but Tas was probably the most intense person I've ever met. Renton (Miller) is a straight up great guy. So chilled but so talented.

Same trip (I think) Anthony Claravelle had all his gear in the back of my friends car (ended up being 411 Europe footy) my friends had a massive bust up and the friend with the car and all our stuff disappeared. This was before mobile phones so we couldn't just call him. We ended up winging it sneaking from Germany to Holland with no money or passports on a train. Poor Anthony was understandably losing it. We ended up randomly going to the big skatepark in (?) Utrecht and after a day my friend totally randomly shows up. 411 saved!

Was lucky enough to skate Bristol a lot when that scene was blowing up - so much innovation there; we didn't realise at the time. There are lots of pros from around there- every one of them are nice, chilled, good people. Some of the best times of my life.

Lived near Marseille for a while and first saw Bastien when he was tiny and ripping. Then bumped into him years later in his home town and spent the day chilling with him and filming him a bit. Massive ego (he was hated on a bit for that) but he was unbelievably good. He was straight clowning Penny even back then for reasons I won't go into but are more obvious now

Saw Pat Duffy at Marseilles bowl in 94 when he was a straight legend. A lot of other pros were cool guying it but he came over chatted a bit all friendly then rolled off and 360 flipped into the bowl. Just cemented his legend status in my eyes

Been (understandably) told off by Tony Hawk for smoking out on the deck of Dortmund vert ramp at the comp, but he didn't dare stop Sheffey's bong session!!

Had Omar Hassan and Jesse Fritch in the back of our car being such arrogant dicks we kicked them out on some random German street

Chilled with Javier sometimes- cool as and the best ledge skater I've ever seen.

Many, many more - almost all positive experiences of good people sharing a love for skating

I won't cross the line into personal stuff, not my place. Some of Penny's well known issues were already starting to surface and affecting his skating. Bastien was very young, competitive and cocky. We asked after Tom as we knew him back in the day and bastien had just about got on flip. B wasn't particularly complimentary

Was couch surfing with a mate in Chicago who happened to be dating the sister of Berra's partner/kid's mum. Met up with them at Shake and Shack briefly, because my mate knows I skate and got a burger with Berra, Dompierre, Dashawn Jordan and Alex Midler. Dashawn was tight and surprisingly down to joke with a random third wheel. Pretty surreal as an Australian to casually encounter three and a half big names like that, not through skating, especially those ones.

Was skating alone around Tribeca on a family trip to NYC and ran into Wade and Dane Vaughn. They were filming for the Quartersnacks collab vid a couple years ago. Had a little chat with Wade and after they were done at the spot he asked me if i wanted to join the sesh. Had nothing to do so I ended up skating with them for the entire day. Also saw Cyrus at blubba and said hi but he didn't respond.

Not a pro but I saw Glen Fox at the train station in Rotterdam with a girl. I was just drinking a coffee by myself and he came up to me and introduced himself. Ended up exchanging phone numbers and went skating a couple weeks after.

Oh and at the latest Bombaklats premiere a friend of Daan van der Linden asked if i'd borrow him my board to let Daan do a fucked up drop in. He was wasted tho and kept on rambling about getting kicked out and needing a ride home.

I think I saw Reynolds at the Ft. I also ran into Justin Strubing at Delerium in SF...I was drunk 7 gave him props, he was busy with a Bird & gave me a weird look.

My Claim to Fame, Back in the mid to late 90's we were in with the Firm because K. Gruber was in our SK8 crew. He drove me & my homie to a CASL Contest in Temecula & we sk8ed and hung out with Lance, Ray Barbee & the rest of the Firm Team. I felt cool because everyone was obviously looking at them. I felt like I was Pro for a Day. they were there because Weston Correa was entering the Factory Division. Prolly aroudn 94-95-ish. James Craig, JP Jadeed, Joey Brezinski were in the same Shop Sponsored Class as me.

A few I'm trying to remember.

Zero team showed up at our makeshift park box / flatbar we used to set up in this parking lot in Florida. Random people would show up because it was decent. Skated with Chief, Ellington, Mumford, Lopez wasn't there, Copalman didn't skate I remember. My friend that brought them there was full on trying to get sponsored pushing as fast as he could ollieing shit. hah. Pretty surreal moment. Many people did not believe us.

Jason Dill used to show up at this record store I hung out at in NYC all the time '05-'06.

Donny Barley knocked on our hotel room door at Tampa Pro and asked for rolling papers, but we only had a bowl.

Stayed in HB a lot in the summer growing up so I would see everyone around? doesn't really count I guess.

Please elaborate. This sounds like the potential for a great story.

Even waited in line to use the restroom for what seemed like an eternity chatting it up with Axel Cruxburger. I'm not even going to attempt to spell his last name.

Post by: DISTANT RUMOURS on July 31, 2017, 02:08:15 AM
told these before but ah well:

- I went skating with my friends in Barcelona and at parallel we rolled up and heard a dude screaming like hell. We rolled a little further and it was Rob Dyrdek just losing it. He looked and acted like an asshole and was yelling at the filmer. He landed the trick after ages (smith flip out?) and excused himself to the filmer and us for cursing. Packed his stuff right after he landed it, still kinda pissed, and walked off. But he still said 'bye guys, have fun!' to us...

- At the same trip we went out in the city and saw Jim Greco getting thrown out of a pub. We didn't say anything, he was wasted/stoned as hell... but we were all in awe.

- Kris Markovich did a demo at the shittiest local park ever (on an all plastic course) and literally KILLED it. Said hi to all of the kids and advised us to learn wallrides (after he stuck a HUGE one). ? Took his advise, slammed very hard > Fuck you Kris. Random thing was he that we went eating afterwards and he talked to my parents quite long, which was cool.

- Penny walking around the macba neigbourhood, I was too afraid to go talk to him.

- Tom Knox (the OG) randomly showed up at the '1996 Belgian championships of skateboarding'. I think he was on tour and they invited him or something. I was skating outside and he came outside as well. I bumped in to him as I wanted to go inside again. I was just some 14 year old kid and thought he was going to freak out. Dude was super super cool. I was just getting into photography and I shot some tricks of him on the mini ramp. I just had a convo with him on insta as well. I love Tom Knox.

- At a Nike Sb demo, Youness took my Lance Mountain board backstage to get signed by Lance. They invited me ? backstage as well and I ran into Wieger and Koston on the way in. They both liked my Morrissey shirt. But what I still remember VERY well is that in the back P-Rod was sitting in some kind of couch with literally 4 HOT chicks around him in the couch, and dudes sitting on the floor in a circle around him. They were all looking at him and he gave me small nod when he saw me. He kept smirking and looked like a gangster that just pulled off a major drug deal. ? I litteraly think I was just a few seconds away of getting called to go kiss his street league ring or something... but fortunately I had to go. That was 'odd' to say the least...

After the Muska KOTR episode I remembered meeting him at this convention right when he was starting Circa, the ghetto blaster was there and Chad was in full TSA gear yelling on the mic connected to his radio. Dude was super positive and rad, eventually his ghetto blaster died but he kept yelling "CIRCA FOOTWEAR YA'LL KNOW" into it.

Alsl ran into Jim Greco there, drunk as fuck,he signed tbis noise maker that podium was handing out and says "What the fuck is this,a dildo?" Another good quote "I ride Baker for my health" since that shit was about to drop. Later some other homies took care of his then drunk ass as he polished a bottle of jack

I had just watched Bag of Suck when it first came out visiting NY for a weekend, and we went for tacos. Our boards were lined up on the entrance an Jerry fucking Hsu walks by just staring blankly at our skateboards. It was trippy as. I then exploded my kneecap at the white tile bank to wall spot in Coney.

I moved to Louisville KY shortly after they built the park there. 2003?  Anyways, i got to run into plenty of "pros" during 13 years I lived there.  I first met Lance Mountain there. He introduced himself to me. Shaking his hand he said, "Hi, Im Lance Mountain." I kinda chuckled, smiled and said, "I know who you are"  Ha. The only time I actually puled a Fan Boy was to Chris Miller. I was way day drunk and just tripping on how good he was. I kept calling him "Mr. Miller!!" I def Kooked out there...

I will share a few from my childhood since skateboarding sadly has become the more so about the business as of late for me.

When I was younger I would skate EMB, the old one, it was a great spot, but the ground was really rough. You'd hit the brick at times and slam, but it wasn't my favorite spot, but I would go there to see what was possible. I would buy nearly ever video, but in person things seemed more tangible. One of the pros who was very nice to me was Shamil Randle.

I remember a few times he would set a price (I forget how much) and I would buy his box from his sponsors, I remember my friends and I did that a few times split the cost and would be pretty hyped.

 - Cairo Foster is a really nice guy, but would skate the greater East Bay Area and was known for going to spots locals had done a film-worthy trick and do the same thing. I remember seeing him skate the Walnut Creek J.C.C. gate gap as well as Northridge rail and feel odd seeing him doing tricks that other locals had shot photos with the same photog, a guy named Bruce who was tied to Think.  Not to bury the guy, he always remembers me and if he sees me he'll give me shit for this, but it is just what he is known for.

- Sean Payne on one of these trips to the Northgate rail, a bunch of skaters went to the Northgate High School rail to shred. This was a staple for Corey Duffel in his prime and when Corey filmed everyone would come out since he was doing tricks on rails most hadn't thought at the time. Sean was a scrawny, tall kid, who talked sheepishly. He rolled up to the spot and tailslide it multiple times, everyone was pumped, Matt Field filmed a 50-50 down it in his real to reel part, most of us wanted to try a 5-0 that day down the rail so it was motivation. Sean then became a folklore legend as he landed on about 30 Tailslide kickflip outs snapping a board or two, all the while being humble a good guy.

- I use to see Trevor Prescott and Gary Smith when in I lived in the outer mission, I remember seeing them film a line that was beyond belief. I linked the clip below. I had seen Trevor around and we talked. He was a really good guy, he filmed me do a trick at a spot in the mission that day. I miss those days in which, it was all about making a few hundred dollars floating aimlessly, running into a fellow skater and pushing yourself, I guess that's why I enjoy watching some of the east coast videos a lot.

- I remember skating the 3-up, 3-down in the mission and Stevie parking a brand new Lexus or Benz, something fancy in the red. He went on to do some tech trick, I want to say something switch into a fakie manual in about three or four tries with some random filmer he brought. I never saw the footage, but he was really cool. The cops came after he left and we sat on the steps thinking they were going to talk to us, but they never approached us so we left while they lingered in front of the stair well.

- Mike York was and will always be in my opinion one of the nicest skaters. He was really fun to be around and in the hayday of the Yeah Right video would just be a good dude along with Karl Watson. They were like the nice people who protected the young skaters whereas Henry Sanchez and a few others would enforce rules such as "no wax", no getting in their way while filming, etc.

- I would skate with one guy from 510 back in the day since I thought it would help me turn pro, but it was always a bummer. He'd take me to odd spots that were the opposite of fun, play a bunch of boring jazz, complain about skateboarding (something I loved) and then post a lot on fecalface. I remember a few times going to bump to bars hoping to shot a photo and getting wrecked based off the sheer unenjoyment of the day.

I have more, but I am going to eat I hope this was enjoyable to some.

Ran into Rowley in a small town outside of Vancouver. He was driving around lost and asked about hunting in the mountains, specifically wondering about cougars(I know). Ran into James Craig in Montreal at a bar while out for the am getting paid contest. Really cool and chill guy, we talked about SML and the TM life after pro skating. Different night in Montreal me and a buddy of mine were at the deathwish premier and hung out with Beagle for the better part of the night getting too high and talking about skateboarding. He's exactly how you think he'd be.

I met Matt Rodriguez back in the day, dude gave me a pair of shoes. Super cool dude, had a long conversation. I was like 14 maybe, all about I-Path and Supernaut, definitely took me seriously.

Met BA at a dumb Nike SB thing during SXSW a few years back. It was a Q&A with like him, Omar, Daryl, and maybe Stefan. I really can't remember if it was Stefan or what, but there was another SB pro. People were asking dumb questions, like who they thought was gonna win Street League and shit. Anyway, BA was over it the whole time, kept saying "Am I gay? Am I gay?" Out of nowhere, BA gets up and walks to me, saying, "Dude I love your shirt." It was a Fourstar Gonz tee. Me and the homies talked to BA for almost an hour. Definitely one of the coolest dudes.

I think it was 50/50 - some of the tricks seemed somewhat random for him to do down the spots and others I could just see happening, it happened a bit - not a lot in the early 2000s.

I have always been fine with Cairo, but I don't go get happy hour with him.

Skateboarding is a business and if you have a name as well as people paying you and others don't - all is fair.

Tony Alva used to skate pedlow a lot when they remodeled it and once he skated over to me and told me how much he liked the park "especially at sunset when the shadows are all perfect." I saw he a few more times once when I had some awesome kush and I was too pussy to asked him if he wanted to burn one.

Saw the boss do a flat ground kickflip at Richie Valens and you could hear his foot drag across the grip for what seemed like forever. So high so clean. his KF is my favorite.

Been meaning to post this one for a couple of years...

Ran into the alien team (rather: they ran into us), during kotr 2012. Went to skate/BBQ on a small camper grill in daybreak utah (it's like a small walkway path/skatepark. Dahveed did a major gap here in his soty vid). They showed up as we were barley skated and had barley pattied the grill. Omar was definitely the shining light of the crew. While the rest of the team kept themselves quiet/secluded at the other side of the park, Omar mashed down towards us, busts a fat bs ollie on a small steep side bank (that's hard to skate) and introduced himself to us. I was a bit starstruck, given that I didn't realize it was him until he shook my hand. Really nice. He is as wild and gregarious as he comes across in videos. He was stoked-out on our little bbq picnic, gave us doomsayers stickers (b4 it was an official brand), had small talk and was just genuinely friendly and interested in us strangers. Even as they eventually left and pulled away from the park, driving down the street, Omar shouted towards us out of his window, "HAVE FUUUUUUN! LOOOOOOVE LIIIFE! SKAAAAATE!!!" While they were there, we just turned off the grill, sat and watched them handle some work as they were in & out of the place for what seemed like less than an hour. They let us record them from the sidelines, but warned not to leak footy at the time:

In my early 20's I was skatin at the SM sand gaps by myself on a good one when PJ Ladd showed up by himself. I recall a nollie heel tailslide first try as well as a bs 5-0 hop the gap to 5-0 right after. We didn't speak a word to each other for over a hour, but one time he did a KF 5-0 first try on the ledge n I came rollin right behind him and did a BSTS shove-it out first try as well. He said, "We did doubles" an those were the only words spoke on that 1-2hr session.

Afterwards, I went to the Venice drum circle, drank Arrogant Bastards n tried not to die drivin home...

i too had a PJ sighting back in 2011 at stoner one morning, my friends and i showed up as early as possible because it was our first time there, we were in LA for just a few days and wanted to try and have at least some of the park to ourselves before it got packed. so we get there as early as possible, park is empty except for one hoodie-wearing silhouette in the corner doing oddly familiar-looking flatground 360 flips over and over going very slow and of course it's pj ladd. aware of the discreet nature of the guy i just say hi and start skating but of course the dudes i'm with can't help but fan out like naive tourists (which we really all were but i didn't want to bother the guy, despite him being one of my all-time favorites). dude then proceeded to stay in his little corner practicing slow flatground, landing all the basics textbook everytime - never saw him bail once. after a while he moved on to the low ledge and was now going for lines of again slow, yet really clean basics he would never miss once. i remember being a bit let down by the lack of agression in his skating compared to his WHL days back when he looked a lot wilder (but i could appreciate his patience and technique). didn't hear it myself but apparently he liked a switch laser flip i did and asked one of my friends about my stance. by then more people were starting to show up at the park and ask him about the next shoe company he was going to get on at the time and other boring stuff when he clearly just wanted to skate, eventually as soon as the middle of the morning he just quietly took off. his humility that day actually left a strong impression on me

not really "running into" as it was at a demo, but got to ride around in Rocco's Land Rover / barbarians at the gate thing.  all the kids were fanning out on the pros and nobody recognized Rocco but my buddy and I.  Rocco said he wanted some beef jerky and cherries, heh, I thought he was kidding, but he offered my  buddy and I a ride, said he only had room for two so we ditched my little brother at the park.  our first stop was at a taxidermist, I'm from the south, but they only made jerky for those that brought a body, that's all I remember, and that when I got back to the park my brother was getting a darkslide tutorial from Rodney Mullen, almost got them.

One time i went to Long Beach to stay with a friend. He was like, oh were gonna meet up with my homie chris at LBC. So, we went, and skated with this kid that had super baggy clothing but was killing it. We went skating the next two days while he offered me free weed and cigarettes. He showed us around to some famous spots and was trying crazy tricks down them with no camera and landing them. I got back home and no more than 2 months later, he was in the spot light. It was Chris Joslin.

Another time i took a trip to LA with the finalists of the Best foot forward contest for Zumiez. Once me and my buddy checked into the hotel they provided, we went out skating downtown LA. We came out of an alley and turned and Erik Ellington was right there at the street corner. I figured i might as well say something because i'd regret it, if not. I told him i grew up on baker 3 and all that, and he was hyped and ended up taking my phone and pinning all these spots in the area on my google maps for us to check out. Super nice and went out of his way. Later that night, We went to this bar and i ended up shooting dice with him - he had about 3 girls all around him haha.

Same trip i ended up hanging around Jamie Foy a bunch. We skated a spot with Nyjah, Lizard king, Chris Cole, Axel, and the rest of the Stance team. They were all super cool and i ended up filming all the clips they got at that spot.

Chaz Ortiz skates my local park frequently in chicago and despite my preconceived notions, hes actually a really nice guy. Super respectful and level headed. A lot different than i thought he'd be.

My best friend is Kevin Braun, and he introduced me to Jack Olson, where we proceded to climb on top of the house the party was at, and smoke a joint. Super chill dude. Also introduced me to Ryan Lay, Christian Maloouf, Robbie Brockel, Aaron Goure, and all the other big Az guys. Skated with Robbie and Aaron on multiple occasions after visiting Az alot.

There's alot more but those are the ones that stuck with me. Also they aren't all pros but most likely will be haha.

Ran into GT, Chet Childres, Shimuzu and Clark Hassler out street skating in my town. Went out of my way to shake hands with Chet's crooked arm. Shimizu and Clark gave me props on a wallie so that was cool.

Clark Hassler out street skating
Shoulda went and bought a lottery ticket

Not pro but I ran into Trevor Thompson, Andy Considine, Evan Wasser, and Caleb McNeely out skating around town last month with a friend. They invited us to skate with them so we spend the whole day around downtown Chicago. Each one of them is absolutely unreal and they were all super nice too.

My brother was bartending at this house party and I was helping him out once and Chany showed up. Which was kind of weird because he’s a grown ass man at a party with a bunch of kids.

Anyways he was being a huge snob about there not being a  “drink list.” My brother was just helping a friend out and decided it would be sick to get hammered. I mentioned I thought that his skating is sick and really liked his style and expedition. He was a huge dick about it. Fuck that guy. He’s lucky a 23 year old recognized some old washed up pro.

Ran into Matt Berger buying a suit at Nordstrom Rack. Kinda awkward seeing a skater doing grown ass adult shit like buying a suit.

Straight out of school I worked at a resort hotel, one day I delivered food to a room and started to walk back when I heard people talking behind me, turned around and it’s Rodney Mullen and his wife, so hyped I just said hey Rodney (like I knew him!) and said I skated and asked for his room number and sent him a nice fruit basket

Saw Felipe Gustavo at a park in Southern California while I was out there visiting a friend. Not super into his skating and didn’t know who it was until my friend told me, but he seemed super nice. Came in and said what’s up to everyone then gave some kid a new board.

Not a pro but one time at a local indoor park Pat Rumney came by because he had some friends there. He told us he was friends with the Baker dudes and called Dollin in front of us. My friend and I were super young so we just fanned out while we skated with him. Taught me kick flip back nose slides and was super cool the whole time. Heard he kinda stopped skating and is trying to become a rapper or something.

Also first time in NYC Stu Kirst came up to me and complimented a hardcore shirt I had on. Strangers had just come out and I was super into him at the time. I responded something dumb and he went to the side of the park and did back 3s on flat for like an hour.

Yeah he’s a real cool cat. He offered me some kook-aid which I thought was weird but other than that he was pretty chill and very charismatic and persuasive.

Use to rent an illegal basement under Ernie Torres and Angel Ramirez,, let's just say wild nights and many heads came over. Angel was lazy as fuck when skating with the homies. I guess Mike Sinclair told him see ya, last time I was there I joked with him and he got mad. Definitely butthurt

I think my most unique pro encounter was at ASR a while back when I went to see the premiere of D-Way's bonus DC part.

My buddy and I sat down a few seats from some older lady. As we were sitting down, I was thinking, "Weird. I wonder why this older woman is here. Like, does she run a local shop or something? Who is she?" And then a few minutes later, she looks at us and says, "Hey, can you guys move down a couple seats my boyfriend, my son, and his girlfriend want to sit down." We say, "Sure. No problem." and we move over a couple seats. Then some older dude, Danny Way, and his girlfriend all walk over and sit down. I ended up sitting a seat away from D-Way during the premiere of his gnarly mega-ramp part.

This is one of those moments where I think to myself, "Fuck, I am so glad I didn't act like a piece of shit and be a cool-guy dick for no reason." I can't even imagine how wrong things would have turned out if we were anything but polite.
