Not because of exercise, cardio, or balance and coordination..
But because a skateboard will instantly give you a status report on the condition of your body and mind. I'm a big shitbag these days, and as soon as I step on my board in the morning I can tell exactly how fucked up I am.
If I start skating and can barely push, if I'm wobbly and weak, I know I'm way too fucked up and I gotta pull myself together. If I can still push strong, ollie, etc.. then I'm still keeping it together. As long as you keep skating you'll survive, but the day you can't step on the board, that's the day you start dying!

Maybe, i havent totally fleshed out my thesis. I also have a theory that drinking before 10am is generally a bad idea.

For everyone else that isn't drinking. Otherwise that's just what I like to call a warm up.

Yup im 50/50 on it, some days it gets me just in the right mood to shred the day away, and other days im dying by noon.

On the topic of this thread, coming back to skating made me realize how badly out of shape I was.
A lot of my muscles in my hip that are used to skate had degenerated badly. I thought there was something seriously wrong, and I'd be limping for weeks after flatground sessions. I also couldn't do more than a couple of tricks without being badly out of breath.
Eventually after pushing through the aches and pains I rebuilt up those muscles, and now I don't experience any lingering issues.
So yeah, skating definitely made me realize what shitty shape I was in, and that I definitely don't wanna go back to that place.

Came in here to say that, had a near shart incident warming up once at the skatepark one time.

If its super hot i cant drink alcohol and expect to skate all day, my body gets dehydrated and fucks the whole sesh up. If the weather is mellow i love sippin a few beers inbetween sesh's

As you get older, skating isn't enough to stay in shape. You'll need to do "other" things as well. But I'm terrible at taking my own advice so I generally just skate and drink and its still the best. Brownies in the oven and all.

Skating again has made me realize how fucked up my knee is from hopping around on it for four months

Good not just for physical health but also for mental health. I am a youth worker at an alternative high school for disengaged young people and run a skateboard program there. I have seen skateboarding support young peoples mental health in ways that no other program has ever been able to achieve. Just one of the many reason why skating is the best.
