I'm from Mid-Michigan... You know how in season 1 of True Detective there was that line, "There's all different kinds of ghettos."? Let's just say there are a lot of White Trash/Meth Heads/Gun Nuts. My closest skatepark is a prefab that was built around 2003 and has really gone to shit maintenance-wise. I will usually opt to drive 45 minutes over to Saginaw, where they have a great plaza style, California Skateparks built park.
Anyways, back to the prefab, there are a group of youngish alcoholics/drifters that love meeting up at the picnic table directly outside the park. They pretty much just drink Natty Ice and talk shit/vibe people out all day. So there's that.
This other time I was there and this SUV showed up bumping some terrible Juggalo shit while rolling up. All of the sudden, there were 4 white dudes all wearing the same terrible shade of bright green t-shirts storm in and just start snaking people and acting ridiculous.
I wonder what other kind of bullshit I would see if I went there more regularly...

i seen a girl drive her suv onto the cement pyramid once. she didn't crush a contest rail or get arrested so it wasn't stupid but if it backfired it would've been.

Last summer at one of my local parks this guy showed up on his Toyota motorcycle and started riding around in the bowl, every time he went over a hip he bottomed out, thought he was super cool and then sped off across the field beside the park after falling over in the bowl. I have footage of it on my old computer.
Besides that id say the dumbest thing that happens is me trying to jump down anything bigger then a 4 set.

kids skate there all day and never street skate, and try to regulate like its EMB or something when its a publicly built, owned, and patrolled skate park. Most of the current generation of skate kids are pretty cool, they skate everything and no trick is out of bounds if its done well. The one annoying thing is that a lot of them don't understand that real street skating is done in the streets. And yeah, I get staying there all day long if you live in bumfuck Kansas and there are no good street spots for a hundred miles in every direction, but a kid in SF or any other major city is blowing it if they spend all day skating in a tiny cage when they are surrounded by a gold mine of spots.

i was skating the dc plaza in ohio when it first opened and a van full of unicycle riders showed up and pretty much put on a demo. some dude "grinded" the biggest handrail there on his pedal. it was one of the dorkiest things ive ever seen.

This may make me a dork but a dude grinding a rail on a unicycle pedal actually sounds pretty gnarly. I'ts definitely some sideshow shit, but I'd be impressed if I saw it once. If they become as widespread as scooters or rollerblades used to be it would lose its novelty quite quickly though.

I went to a skatepark in Superior, Wisconsin this summer and there were a bunch of middle schoolers playing on the ramps and making out. I guess there's not much to do in Superior but damn it was uncomfortable.

I saw the one who made the TapOut joke a few years later, within the last few months I was living in Illinois. Dude was in maybe 4th-5th grade and bad as hell. Sometimes you’d be at the park then all of the sudden like, 8-12 unsupervised kids from the apartment complex next door would flood that tiny ass park and it’d just be a free for all, kids running thru the lanes and sitting on obstacles being obnoxious n whatnot. Dude was like the loudmouth leader just cussing as much as possible saying all kinds of ratchet ass shit. Real sad to see honestly, like I said those apartments next door were hood as fuck.
The other kid & his yellow banana wearing friend were regulars so I actually saw them fairly often, and he was actually kind of getting into skating and would sometimes ride around n shit. Hopefully it resonated with him and he’s ripping the park but that’s probably not the case. The local shop there closed down a year or so after I left and that’s literally the only park in the city so the scene there is pretty weak at this point and was hardly ever big in the first place. I just hope some of those kids make it out of that cesspool but seeing as how Peoria was actually listed as #6 of the worst cities for African Americans in the entire country (based on poverty, employment, & incarecration rates), my hopes aren’t high. It’s tucked wayyy back in these woods like it’s its own 3rd world country or some shit separate from the city. I had s close friend who moved into another complex just down the road that was like govt-assisted $20/ month rent on some straight (http://www.thecoli.com/data/emoticons/1/f0653ebec01eefba8ed9cbb868aca555.png?t=1453392773) status. I hated going over there even just to pick him up or smoke before skating the park. Place had me shook every time I went there, and I was even brave enough to go door to door to get my phone back from some kid who stole it at the complex next to the park. That’s the kind of shit that puts hairs on your nuts as a kid but going to that other complex down the road would make them same hairs stand up like the back of your neck
Still, I made almost all my skate buddies & spent hours upon hours there from 5th grade til I moved to AZ as an adult so I still hold that park dear to my heart, as fucked as it was. One time I was skating my local DIY and the local news showed up and interviewed a couple of us about a reoccurring incident of somebody shitting on the neighboring playground's slide. They basically egged us on to make poop jokes, and it made it to air.

Local urban legend tells that about five years ago some hero stole an excavator from a near by industrial area and demolished our old plywood rhino-hell.
The old park was a fucking mess so it was kind of an power move. After the destruction the city built a new concrete park which was a blessing.

Skateboarding used to be big in our lil town of 9000. At one point we were running at least 300 deep, now I rarely see anyone on a board but me and my kids, two kids constantly on revive boards and you'll never see any of them at street spots.
One guy on this board is from the same town and we've never even crossed paths once???

Yeah those rails were wicked! The new "plaza" is kinda shitty, though. I'll try skating it for sure but I'm not convinced it'll become the new Love or anything. I always thought street skating across (park too) was better. Haven't been there in forever, though.

Last thing I saw at one of the two local parks in my vicinity was kids hitting bucket bongs.
Funny thing was they didn't have a bucket so they instead emptied a big rubbish bin and filled it with water and were smoking out of that.
The park is beside a busy road with lots of people always going by so that was amusing to watch.
Anyway they offered me a hit and I took it. I smoked weed out of a shitty public bin.

Worse than that - some loser was dressed up as a bear at the park and his friend was filming him stand by ramps and act kooky, just getting in the way. The filmer came up to me and asked if I could lend him my board. Of course I said "No" neutrally. Filmer goes to the bear and they both laugh about it. Ruined the fucking session for me and I had to leave. I'm not Louie Barletta is what I'm trying to say.

i have a rc car aswell and dudes like that are fucking stupid, actually now that i think about it one time at some park in riverbank, some guy in a truck came up with some shitty ECX rc buggy (the background with this is that its a budget brand, really cheap priced cars like $120 at most, and the other thing is that their really durable and have cheap as hell replacement parts this kinda plays into the story) and i was like 15 went to the skatepark with my dad, i was skating the park this dude was lurking, jump forward this dude started hyping up the car, jump forward again and i somehow ended up driving the thing, i had a car before havent used it in years at that point so i was rusty driving, the guy kept hounding me about "dont take it off any jumps bro dont jump it bro" (but it was at a skatepark that was mainly ramps so what did expect to happen) and when i was about to return the thing i was pulling the rc car back towards me, and from where it was and where we where at there was a steep ramp, so i had pinned going like 7mph it roll up this ramp, it got like a half a inch of air, but it was off balance i almost pulled it but it rolled over the car was just fine no scratches no broken parts, (sense it was already beat to shit), and the guy went off yelling at me and my dad flipped it back on him for the guy trying to be some sketchy salesman. and sense i was really unaware being a shut in then it turns out dude pretty much just went to the park to try pawn off the thing for a shitty price on some unknowing sucker, and knowing the area now he was probably just trying to get some skunk weed money trying to sell the shit for retail price
TL'DR some truck driving junkie tried to get pissed at me for rolling over his cheap ass rc car he was trying to sell. and most the people clogging up skateparks like that have big ass $500 monster trucks anyway, like take that shit to some dirt or wait tell it rains at the skatepark and clean it off after you lazy shithead

My local has recently had two stages of improvements, went from crusty asphalt to super smooth concrete, more obstacles and lights which stay on until 10pm.
Ironically its now so busy its hard to enjoy and the once great vibe is getting shittier.
Oddly enough someone was filming a rap video there a while back, what is it with rap videos and skateparks.

A gang of 11 to 14 year olds took over a park for a week or so, clearly challenging skaters to do something about it. They'd all ride at once, round and round, so no one could get a run in. Being a grown man, I know there's a limit to how much you can discipline other people's children but I lost my shit one evening. Anyway, I went up to the ring leader, grabbed his bike and let the air out of his tires. He obviously freaked out and told me to get my hands off his property but I told him I was done with his impolite use of the skatepark. He told me he'd be back with his dad because I was 'tweaking.' I told him I'd wait for him and his dad but they never came back. Never seen them since.

Damn, that's Marsh Creek Park, my relation to that place is lobbying for it for over a decade and then helping build it.
I want to hate on that video and the simplicity in what dude is rapping about... guns, weed, driving fast, suicide doors.... but the fact that kids can get away with skating the park with no pads or helmets is a positive thing. Cops used to love rolling up there for an easy ticket score.
A kid died in that same parking lot in the past few years popping a wheelie on his motorcycle.
Dumbest shit I've seen a skatepark is well-respected skaters getting too wasted and robbing from other skaters, breaking bottles in the park, or pissing on ramps.

Haven't really frequented parks in my area recently but I've seen gnarly fights and jumping go down at Roosevelt Park in San Jose near some handball courts the Nortenos like to kick it at, shit looks like a prison yard sometimes. There's a creek that runs directly next to the park and their has been bodies pulled put of it in the past.

Non-skaters come to the local park to fight. Bums and Heroin addicts chill around the sketchy Public Restroom....numerous OD's have happened. Most of the skaters look like wannabe SoundCloud Trap stars. Parents drop off their scooter kids for the day even though the park is in the worst part of town. Not a fun place to skate unless you're there at the ass crack of dawn and even then you have to deal with the bums camping out.

Before the basketball courts were put into place and the city moved the bathrooms near the park entrance at my home skatepark; some of the locals got addicted to heroin, gang activity happened around the area late at night, ramp tramps come and go, fights break out every Friday, an influx of scooters and bikers filled up the park , and drug dealers would just kick it at the park. Before the basketball courts were put into place and the city moved the bathrooms near the park entrance at my home skatepark; some of the locals got addicted to heroin, gang activity happened around the area late at night, ramp tramps come and go, fights break out every Friday, an influx of scooters and bikers filled up the park , and drug dealers would just kick it at the park. Now the park is safe while the bikers disappeared, the only dumb shit happens at my skatepark is kids filming antics for Instagram, fuckboys filming music videos, a kook trying to start fights with my friends, and an occasional junkie overdosing in the bathroom.
That sums up majority of the Anaheim skate parks and Indy in Fullerton.

I've seen some crazy and nasty shit happen there. Coming at the park at 2h pm and seeing a girl blowing a crackhead is pretty common.
Twice during a session a girl came and start shitting on the main curb. (it was the same girl). Once she start throwing her own shit at people.
The most famous story of our city, and I was there, two prostitute start fighting with their belt, like slapping the hell of each other until their pimp came and start beating the weak one. Then he took a knife out and start to scream at all the skaters watching this madness. My friend had enough and knock him out with his board. About 10min later the pimp woke up, took back his knife and went at my friend screaming, so my friend knock him out a second time with his fist and thrown the knife away. And it's not done...here the funny part.
The pimp went beside the corner store, pack a puff of crack, smoke it, look himself in the window, see his bloody nose and then came back running throwing punch in the air. My friend punch him, he fall, go back to the cornerstore, puff, look himself in the window, see his face and came back again! 4 fucking time he did this. At the end someone had to call the cops cuz the guy keep coming back. The next week we saw the pimp at the park and he didn't remember any of this shit

But beside that there a trend with stupid scooter kid : they come in the park, take a picture of the scooter on a ramp or curb, then leave. Have you see this shit too ?

I mostly skate Apex these days because it's much closer to my house, but man apparently Marsh Creek has gotten real weird since I last went there!
The funniest thing I've ever seen at a park was in Berkeley when well known Bay Area local Pierre got in an argument with a BMX'r, took his bike from him, and then threw it over the tall barb wired fence that protects the Odwalla warehouse next door. I'm not entirely sure how he ever got it back, I think we took off not long after.

There's this mob of asshole little kids at my skatepark. They sit around on all the ramps and talk shit when you try to skate them. I've had homies robbed at gunpoint and plenty of shit stolen. I know this has probably been said many times, but my local park becomes more and more flooded with scooters every single time I go. It was freezing cold yesterday and the kids have the whole week off school, so about a dozen of them show up out of nowhere. No matter what, they keep multiplying and it’s like a plague. Just seeing one makes me kinda angry, which sucks because I’m not the type to hate on others for what they like. I can’t be that way with scooters though...we need to like destroy the factories that are making them so the plague can finally stop.

Over the years my local park has turned into a gathering place for all the non-skating local shit head kids to smoke cigs and heckle people who are actually using the park for its intended purpose. Don't get me wrong sometimes it can be entertaining (teen mom brawl, cops tackling a kid for smoking dirt weed out of a faygo can etc.) but as a general rule if it's after 11 a.m. I just skate my drive way qp or find a street spot.

There's shit graffiti, building of awful ramps, and garbage, but at least people will help me out when I pick up the trash.
the older guys had a code which was love park inspired like focusing boards and intimidation if you treated the plaza poorly like garbage, graffiti, rollerblading, etc. but i've never been like that and neither are the times. try arguing with an idiot. you won't get the point across and ignoring somebody doesn't really work either. we tried shame as well. agh, i'm thinking of one person in particular and yeah, just pretend he's the person you know who has been there for years, is sort of down with everyone, but is kind of a shitty dude.

We had this guy who was great when he was on your team and terrifying when not. I seriously believe he single handedly keep the park in check for close to a decade.
Cut someone off on a bike, bike gets smashed. Acting like an ass, chased off with hatchet.
Unfortunately, also had run ins with half a dozen good dudes who totally didn't deserve it and basically had to leave town after maiming someone.
So in the end, maybe just try to get along?

Myself and a few others definitely ran our local park when we first got it built.
All the sudden the town had 100 new skaters we had never seen before so we let these young bucks know right away if we show up, you sit down. They listened but a few bmx fucks definitely got shook down hard.
The only kid that gotta park pass was this lil ripper Andrew McComb because he had some growth hormone issues and was super small for his age but he fuckin ripped. He'd get vibed on the streets by jocks etc so I always had his back. He came on alot of road trips with us back then too.
Nowadays though if I hit up the park there is rarely anyone there so not much really goes down.
Our scene back then was fuckin hilarious though. I remember front feebling this round rail at the credit union and I was stoked because its long and weird to skate.
Later that night over some beers my homie sucker punched me in the fuckin ear and I beat him down. All was good cause we are homies, but turns out he just filmed that trick a few days back and was pissed I did it too.

Mind you the skate park is within 30 ft of 3 brand new, full sized Astro-turf soccer fields. They're pretty serious about it and they're usually all wearing full child sized Club América kits and the mom is always wearing a CA coaches jacket. They're super respectful and always get out of the way. Sometimes I'll kick the ball around with them after I'm done skating, they're all 10x better than I am so I usually leave them to it.

I haven't been there in a couple years but there was always some fuck shit going on at the Eugene skatepark. Bums shooting up in the snake run, kids calling the cops on the bums shooting up in the snake run, this tweaker witch that smashed a mirror on the ground because I was staring at her... I don't know why I can't think of many more right now. But the main dumb things that bothered me were your standard over-waxing and leaving cigarette butts and trash everywhere.

The other day this dude brought his girlfriend to the park, and while she sat there bored as shit staring into her phone he would look at her after every trick he landed for confirmation he ripped.

Two scooter kids lighting fires yesterday in the middle of a heat wave. I told them it was the worst time of year to be playing with fire and they should find a better use of their time. The scooted off to light fires someplace else.

Oh yeah, people setting fires in bowls (causing the concrete to crack). That's happened a bunch of times.

Kids filming stuff for Insta all the time on the obstacles you're trying to skate. It feels good to get some clips, but still..

People like to shoot music videos at our park. These assholes with pull their cars into the skatepark and start shooting a video around it.

dudes on those oversized mountain bikes riding around with bluetooth speakers has been the trend lately at my local park

on weekend mornings there are huge soccer games next to the park. brings out all the kooks at once. dudes with remote control cars doing flyouts with them. shoeless children on mountain bikes. teenagers snap chating in the flat. drunk dads that ask "whos the best out of you guys?" and my favorite the drunk uncle that "used to be sponsored before(insert the worst attempt at a lie here)" guy. it's fascinating once.

For context, my local park went from a typical free/sketchy public skatepark in Southern California to one you have to pay $5 at the gate to get into, with a park guard and a peak attendance of maybe 5 people... all of whom are children with scooters.
I actually do the lamest thing at the skatepark. I bring my girlfriend, who is trying to learn how to skate by holding onto the fence and do slow pushes on the flat. She knows I suck so no park-cheerleading or instagramming happening. Just two people in their late 20's fucking around.
She talks shit to the scooter kids though, which I guess makes it cool.
