Can this thread just turn into Captain Lou stories, please?

So improbable but a photo of one of these bootleg World boards would be sooooo amazing.

Pharmacy Hollywood sucks

Pharmacy Hollywood is a horrible shop.

But, the worst skate shop of all time is Drop-in Skateshop from Phoenix, AZ. Thankfully, it went out business a long time ago. The owner was into some shady shit and the team was basically a bunch of washed up meth-heads.

If you want to be sponsored by zumiez, then you shouldn't be sponsored. Ever.
They give me free zumez stickers so I'm pretty much on the team. I'm the only one at the skatepark that has them on my board

RIP Spirit Skateshop. The owner could be a fucking prick. I remember sitting outside the shop once waiting for a ride to pick me and a friend up after I bought some bearings and the guy comes out telling us to get the fuck away from the front of the shop and stop to loitering. Never went back there again. Then they got shut down for stealing Hosois logo and just swapping the name Hosoi for Spirit.

Spokompton is a tough place. I still talk with Steve. He's nicer now that he's back to being "one of us" I still have photos from the Toy Machine demo, black label and 88 footwear. He did bring some good to the east side of WA.
Yeah he definitely brought good over here. I just remember that moment so clearly in my head because I was so disappointed. At the time it was only Spirit, Hillyard skateshop, and zumiez so it's a good thing they were around. The toy machine demos were killer too. Unless my brain is fucked(which it is) that was prime Johnny Layton demo slaying time. I think I remember him doing a tre flip gap lipslide off the pyramid down the a-frame at hillyard.

I could be mixing demos up though.

Far from relevant

Does Zumiez even have an actual team? I think they just do a great job of faking affiliations with various pros. I remember they had an ad for the Couch Tour shit with Nick Trapasso when he was riding for Cowtown.

I went on their website and they have a photo of Evan Smith, but I'm pretty certain he rides for some shop in Florida.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure. I don't keep up with Zumiez, so I didn't know if they altered their "we refuse to pitch in" business model.

Florida has some really weird shops. I got my first real deck from this place called the Joint which was a headshop with a tiny skate section. It was a zorlac popsicle shape with the pirate skull graphic. Don't know how long it had been there considering this was circa 2000, pretty sure they were already out of business by then. My split up parents kept competing for my love by buying me shitty product from that place. My mom's high school boyfriend's brother owned the shop and ended up changing the name to skull kitchen. My dad bought me a complete for my birthday from there. 9th birthday so it was 2002. Red Powell big swirly p logo with red kreper trucks and red wheels. Dad didn't know shit and was always about color coordination. That thing was goofy. Got another fucking Powell board which had a blue dragon and a shit ton of concave. It was probably like 8.25 and I thought it was so sick. Got some bearings there once called swift, rode em with the yellow ricta air cores. They were super fast but the shields fell off after like 2 ollies. Almost all of them. I was just a kid so I left em dangling for the duration of those wheels probably. Forgot to mention there was a really weird bearded guy I found out my dad used to do whip it's with in the back. He was always playing meshuggah in there.

Also there was a shop I never went to called x board shop or extreme x or some stupid shit.

Yeah I lived 30 minutes west between Destin and there. Seagrove beach. Nowhere.

You ever hear of mad chucks? It was inside an old Winn Dixie. Krown skateboards? Heard the guy got arrested for some child rape shit? Maybe involving the team? A similar thing happened with a brand atnalta in atlanta, owner was just raping the team. Anyways mad chucks was my first indoor skate park, saw a 2002 or 3 zero demo there, it was insane.

A few years back my local put wide barn board style wood flooring in...I went in bought some wheels (A.Allen PBR spits) and after getting new bearings pressed and everything set back up I put the board down and popped an ollie...the kid working yelled "what the fuck! We just had new floors put in!" and was super pissed. Needless to say I've been spending my coin elsewhere and ended up finding a great shop near my work that the owner really supports the scene and is easy to deal win.

there's loads of shady stories about a shop we used to have called Elementz. the owner was a total conman who had already lost his first store for counterfeiting or some shit so this shop was his wifes, they sold more roller hocky gear, heelys and hype beast shoes than they did skateboards, the boards they did sell were all haggard, liek theyd been sitting n a leaky attic for a decade, all chipped and warped. If you went in on the right day you could find some classics but they were crazy overpriced.
the level of boldness they had was almost impressive though. The chick would sit behind the counter casually stitching spitfire patches onto cheap ass jeans then sell them for like £60 haha

no surprises when they went out of business, again.

Shredshed in Lake Worth FL, owner doesn't skate #1 he's a hypebeast character he hates owning a shop pisses and moans about it every other week, #2 he buys the sale stuff from reps as well as other surf/snowboard vendors and jacks the price up on an outdated item. Case and point he has a 3D board at full price and few other dusty items that aren't worth it. Don't waste your money,

if it weren't for location I'd buy from Zumiez I know I know it's a sensitive subject on SLAP but if you were me would you waste your money on a pseudo core shop for overcharged BS product or buy from Zumiez or CCS? I'd choose the latter. Just my opinions though

My mom bought me my first real skateboard from a hair salon in Niceville, FL, in 1987.  The owner’s son had some decks and hard goods in the corner near the reception area.  I was only 12 at the time so I didn’t really care.  I was just stoked to be getting a “real” complete.  I ended up with a white Hosoi “rocket air” deck, white tracker ultralights, and blue hosoi oj wheels.  God DAMN I was soooo hyped.  I remember the guy putting it together for me, cutting weird grip tape designs for me and everything.  He farted really loudly while putting the trucks on... it made me really anxious and uncomfortable but he didn’t skip a beat.  Hands down one of the best years of my entire life.  But,  yeah, the “shop” was a hair salon, too.  That shit kinda sucked.

Made me think of Beach Plus for some reason.

Also when I was going to college in Savannah there was only a zumiez. I had to buy a pair of shoes there, first and only time. Then downtown magically this storefront appeared with a big sign saying skateshop coming soon. I waited and waited, months passed the projected opening date. Then it finally opened. The worst.  Mostly saucony, other random non skate shoes. I tried to be cool and chat with the owner and he was a dick. Told him about my Atlanta connects in layman's terms and he tried to flip it on me. I was like yeah my mom is friends with grant's dad and he's like 'you mean thomas?' Like I don't know his fucking name. Also the previous shop in that town got busted as being a coke front.

Worst has to be "black corner" in mexicali.
Owner was a washed up meth head who was a dick to any costumer.
The shop was some sort of a swapmeet spencers/skateshop if you can call it that, bootleg band shirts, botleeg zero skull boards and some bootleg wet willies/flameboys, old as fuck libtechs and a bunch of etnies callicuts, vision footwear and a few "cara beth" vans.

Best shop would be solo skateshop wich was across that other bullshit shop.
Owned by an old dude who never stepped foot on a board but the dude is the fuckin best.
He would always hook it up with free grip, a single bearing, a used board if you went with someone who bought a board and you couldnt afford one, you name it!
Dude even had 2 skateparks with the best fucking ramps ever (skatelite, perfect transition, beautyfully sized boxes and rails) held contests to keep the scene alive, shop boards for 13 bucks back in the 2000's and pro boards for about 25-30.  Great shoe selection with new releases and even some samples before they even came out!
Fuck i gotta go buy some shit from that dude.
He singlehandedly kept the fucking scene going when there was no support an still fucking kills it.
LONG LIVE SOLO SKATESHOP❤
