Speaking of Yeah Right, possibly a Mandela effect thing but I can’t for the life of me find the alternative song to P Rod’s part. Obviously the most well known version is him skating to Nas, but I swear there’s some version where he’s skating to a fast paced instrumental. And I can never find it.

Anyway I’d also say Yeah Right. At the time I was very into backing teams from my general part of the world, so Flip’s Sorry was the one for me. Yeah Right seemed convinced of its own importance, that you were watching something that you had to take very seriously.

It's probably from the second DVD release. Altho it had budget music it actually had more footage (throwaway that would go to hot chocolate) and cost only $20aus from Kmart instead of $65aus from a skateshop

Hate to do this because these videos are probably very integral to the skate culture that would follow them, but I can't stand any of the old Santa Cruz videos or the H-Street videos.  :-X
Same goes for the Powell Peralta videos.
All of this is way before my time and I feel like an ignorant fool for not liking them
[close]

Ignorance is the only defense honestly. Watching all the videos that they inspired then going back to the originals you should at least have a sense of connection to it. If anything, the most likely case is that you weren’t able to recognize that all the videos you liked were variations on a theme. A theme that the aforementioned videos established.

Not trying to be a dickhead at all and I’m sorry if it came across as such. I could understand understand your point, but the skate rat in me needed to say something

No, I agree with you and maybe even giving my opinion on those videos in this thread is somewhat incorrect, because I don't think overrated is even the word to use when describing how I feel about videos from that era. I respect the groundwork those videos laid for skate videos of the future, but I just find watching them now in the context of everything that came later to be difficult. I'm definitely kinda bummed that I don't feel the same connection when watching those videos that a lot of people who either grew up in that era or didn't feel when watching them.
[close]
this is exactly how i feel about the majority of early 2000s videos

This is probably a necro but I’ll be damned, you just described my feelings towards the 90’s to 2015 era of skate videos, maybe it’s because I was born in 2001 and got into skating pretty late, but I never had much social media and stuck to YouTube for footage. I was never able to watch through anything people posted in this thread, and I’m also bummed out because I should like them and enjoy watching them but… nope, never had that connection. I do like a few isolated video parts from that era and that’s it.

Real videos is not that good. Roll forever is meh and since day one I only back to Ishod part.
[close]

Agreed, although Real 2 Reel is a hidden gem of a skate video. Nate, Huf, and Gonz's parts are all classics
[close]

Gotta add Nonfiction (1997) is one of the goat videos imo
[close]

Non Fiction and Real 2 Reel are both incredible and I'd add Kicked Out Of Everywhere to the list of great Real vids.
That Gonz part:

That's a cool part, never seen it before. Everything still holds up. That could be John Wilson vimeo edit or something

In complete opposite to what this thread is about, I think Gonz's parts in Kicked out of Everywhere and Non-Fiction could be some of the most quietly underrated of all time. I know everyone rates the Gonz as all time but I feel like a lot of people haven't actually seen these parts from where he was still pretty young and skating some really mad stuff, also for the time it's pretty brave to have such cruisey parts with no real build up to hammers or whatever. That ollie he does over the curb cut bombing the hill without bending his knees at the start of KOOE is fucking mind bending.

Pretty Sweet was way too overblown for what it came to be. It felt like such a letdown

I agree... It's kind of bad. You can find redeeming aspects but I'm never tempted to watch it again and I own the DVD.

I’m sure I’m going to be the unpopular opinion here but the storm was kinda whack especially the paintball parts……

Although it’s probably better than anything Stroebek has filmed.

Just me but I thought Tweak the Beef was underrated. Not sure why it wasn't pressed to DVD.

Yeah.  It wasn't a great watch.  I bought from the local on day one.  It was too long and had some shitty music.

Pump the brakes mister, underrated more than overrated. That video has aged well - Suski, Busenitz, Rowley, Sarmentio and even Darrell Stanton kill it in this video.

As much as I love GX1000 and their stomach churning clips going full speed down these murder hills, I have to admit that yes, Roll up is overrated. Not a bad video but overblown to a point where it’s almost comical.

Pretty sweet was way overhyped for the final outcome.

If overhyped counts as overrated, then Baker 4.
Definitely agree with this

my first girlfriend bought me fully flared when it came out. i was 15. i made it about 20 minutes in and passed out. i don’t think i ever watched that piece of shit all the way through.
I kind of like Fully Flared because it's so scattershot and incoherent that you almost don't have to pay attention. And the Jesus Fernandez part is a blast

That was one of the first videos I ever watched, so it got a special place in my heart. I love the Busenitz part. And the Dollin/Lewis section. And of course the miniramp stuff.

I never managed to watch it all in one sitting, but that intro is art.

Godspeed. About 15 minutes of quality skating in an hour long video, brimming with b-role of embarrassingly immature, ignorant behavior.

Even as a child growing up learning to skate, I couldn’t for the life watch any CrailTap videos and be stoked. I guess that’s what happens when your first videos you had on VHS is This Is Skateboarding and Sorry
