Can you try and be more succinct when typing? Your walls of text are off putting and you often don’t seem to have a point.

ouch, but point taken. I'll sum up my response to iKobrakai in 4 lines.

If "rationality" is all the matters it is time for everyone to quit skateboarding because it is (economically) irrational practice.
Deciding what is rational based on results rather than practice is a poor idea and creates the opportunity to create ideologically satisfying stories about how the results came to be.
Arguing that sponsored skater = corporate shill doesn't sound right. There is a difference.
Arguing pros should act like Bam, Roy, Dyrdek is probably a bad idea.

I'm gonna risk another wall of text buttfuck it:

I signed a contract to work in corporate, he signed a contract to work for Cons (Nike). Difference?

They throw a cheque and a couple of Chucks on Robbie and expect him to risk his life, probably without insurance, benefits or pension.

Cons (Nike) =/= Target, McDonalds, Mountain Dew, Mtv, Street League, Olympics, Zumiez, etc.

Saying all sponsorship and all brands are equal is disingenuous. They do not contribute to scene at equal levels and do not do equal damage to the scene.

"That guy is double parked."
"Who cares? There are people starving to death! Besides, how does that affect you? Does it lessen the joy of parking?

The rent in SF is absurd like the whole bay area is now. I had to leave 7 years ago anyways i know a lot of ams even pros that have to work a part time job to pay rent.

sure we can all get jobs blah blah blah...think how productive we could all be if we never skated or post on slap? I'm going to assume that most of you that are saying get a job never had to choose between skating and getting a job...because you weren't that good and nobody was going to pay you to skate, so was it ever really a choice? I understand that people outside of skating don't get it but it sounds like a lot of these posters don't either.

i think its more like, he should know the minimum requirements of being older than 15 years old. no ones saying he has to get a desk job lol. just do some fucking temp work and move on.

Robbie needs to go to a career center or ask Mike Carrol to help him write a resume. He could easily work construction.

My dude... A guy working for Trader Joes, or something, will be better off in the long run than a lot pros. Pretty much no other industry could get away with having their employees breaking bones as part of the daily operations, without providing an adequate compensation.

I know people working as welders on oil rigs and those dudes are banking hard. Hard, risky work but at least they have something to show for it.

Just because skateboarding companies sponsor a contest a couple of times a year, the pros are not really taken care off. Again, they expect dumb kids to sign a shitty contract and risk serious injuries with no safety net.

So you're right, not all brands are equal.

Still $1000+ short of goal.  I hope they all survived.  Did they all survive the cold harsh winter without water or electric?

Get a job instead of asking for free handouts. Another loser skateboarder taking advantage of gofundme. If you back this shit you’re an idiot. There are homeless veterans, people with astronomical cancer treatment bills, and a lot of people who are in unfortunate situations that need handouts more than this toothless man baby who won’t go get a real job to pay his bills.

could not have said it better

It's pretty hard to be sympathetic to this.  Handle your primary responsibilities first, then go skate.  And if skating doesn't pay the bills, then find something that does, welcome to being an adult.

don't know his situation but my parents passed when I was pretty young and have pretty bad mental stuff, sometimes I get so sad that I can't move and don't hustle as much as I should. I've definitely been in spots where I needed financial help and have no family so resorted to gofundme. I have 3 jobs but still live paycheck to paycheck. Lack of finances (being poor) shouldn't get in the way of basic living necessities. Shelter is a basic necessity. Not freezing and access to water is a necessity. If I had money, I would help out, hope he's doing ok.

Not patronizing you or telling you something you might already know, but you’re definitely describing symptoms of depression.  If you can’t afford professional help/medication, I hope you have a support group of friends and family (hopefully the ones who contribute to your gofundme) when the black dog rears it’s ugly head
