Game changer. Buy single shoes.
« on: July 19, 2020, 07:53:37 AM »
Do you destroy one shoe significantly more than the other with ollie holes or pushing? Well, this looks promising.

How can we game this system to our benefit?

Would be amazing but they’re going to need to add some non-bobos for me to skate them!

That'd be a rad idea however how many times would a complete set be missing that one left shoe?

I'm wondering if there would be drastic sales to free up warehouse space of the one side.

Also, I brainstormed a shoe trade program here for people who know they destroy shoes so unevenly that they would be willing to trade out with another person with the same problem but the opposite stance. Unworn of course.

That’s pretty neat, but holes are only like 1 of 3 factors that make me switch out shoes. I’d hate to have one crispy shoe for flicking while my back foot is floppy and balding on the sole.

yeah i haven't retired a shoe due to holes in a long time, the sole is always going first

My shit wears evenly on both my right and left shoe so I usually buy a pair. I could see this working if you have 2 different sized feet or if you bust your leg and have to wear a cast.

I've been thinking about this for years! I blow a hole all the way through a brand new shoe after about an hour of flatground. I have to patch up and shoe goo after every session, but they still rip to shreds in no time. Especially now that I mostly skate cupsoles, it sucks to have to replace a whole pair when the soles still have so much life in them. I need this.

If you think this is anywhere near a good idea for skaters, you can't be any good at skating at all, sorry.

My dad woulda loved this, I think parents of skaters have all thought some version of this but as Mr pizzaflip and bbk have said.
I tried to think of a way to have a sole replacement like a stop gap to by you another two weeks or so but I'm not a doctor so I guess skate em til yer socks have holes.
Whoa. Danger.

Is anyone else shocked that Shoe Goo never evolved?  So we pretty much had rebuilding an entire shoe from nothing but shoe goo down in the 80s.  I always figured by now we’d have really sculptable gel that would operate like shoe goo but slightly better looking.  Instead we have new shoe goo without old chemicals but imho it actually works less well than it did in the 80s.  Any other old heads think I’m a nut?

Have you tried preemptively shoe-gooing and super gluing the seams/ areas you're going to wear out before skating them? This will definitely prolong the life of your shoes.

I still goo my shoes up regularly, at least until the soles give out or split. The grippiness of a freshly goo'd shoe is unbeatable, wish they include a small plastic spreader so you could get an even coating on your shoes. My shop mentioned they had to change up the formula since kids were sniffing it and getting high, but I haven't noticed a dip in quality.

I’ll hide this lil secret to shoe goo in this thread. You might still need to use a plastic knife or cut out a piece of plastic or cardboard. Apply a small amount of shoe goo on the area. Here’s the secret.. have some ice cubes ready in a cup nearby. Use that ice cube to smear and smooth out the shoe goo. Don’t touch the shoe goo. Let it dry then repeat til you cover the area.
Ice cube trick can make shoe goo look like it was put in by a factory. You could also use painters tape to make sure it doesn’t spread or has a crisp line.
I’ll say it again use an ice cube( it might melt a tiny bit in your hand but the water will dry before the shoe goo)

Guess that explains why it wasn’t working for me... so you say you’re not supposed to sniff it?  I quit skating for a decade+ so it’s probably just my faded memory.  Goo still works for me, I just thought it’d be as good as my nostalgia for it...

Learned the ice cube trick from my Dad, who used it for tennis shoes when I was a kid. Good move!

I always do. I still wear through the shoe goo at some point every session. I usually have to use suede patches together with shoe goo to avoid going all the way through. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with the way I do flatground. I don't even use particularly course griptape.
