Canon 8-15mm to Sony e-mount adapter
« on: May 21, 2024, 08:28:45 AM »
Sup gods, I recently was able to get the mystic 8-15 mm which gets me really stoked to use it with my Fs5 and my A7RIII for photos. I wanted to know if there is someone could guide me for the best Canon EF to Sony E Mount adapter.

Thanks a lot gs!

Hey mate, I’d go for the Metabones Canon EF to Sony E T Speed Booster Ultra (1 or 2 are both fine, 2 fits more cameras so if you’re needing it just for the FS5, go for the 1)

I got mine from MPB for super cheap.

I love my FS5. Luckily, I bought one that had all the upgrades installed, so I didn’t need to get the FS5 Mark 2. Honestly, one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. Ditching the weight of the Panasonic with the Xtreme lens has saved my back!

Hers the equipment I have and use now if it helps;
Sony FS5 with RAW & High Frame Rate Installed
Canon 8-15mm F4 Fisheye Lens
Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Long Lens
Metabones Ultra II Adapter
Sony ECM-XM1 External Directional Microphone
Sony BP-U90 Battery
X2 SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC cards (200MB/s, UHS-I, Class 10, U3, V30)

Here’s my first test video I uploaded (granted, no long lens);

Also, the beauty of the Metabones is that it allows you to drop to f2 when shooting fisheye, not that you’d need to if you have a good light for night shooting, but at least it’s an option if you ever need to use it 💞

if you want to shoot 4:3, you'll need a speedbooster for the FS5, if not, you can save money and get one that just gives you electronic control with no lens element. as bagheadcrew said you'll also benefit from more light aquisition with a speedbooster as well. in terms of autofocus, it's not important as you should be keeping the fisheye in manual focus mode anyway. depending on if lowlight/4:3 is important to you, you'll have to get both a speedbooster and regular adapter (because the a7r is full frame), or just go with 16:9 and save money on buying one non-speedbooster adapter. I have the sigma adapter and it works perfect on my a7rii and a7iii, although there are even cheaper adapters out there that will get the same job done for you (because autofocus performance wont matter). brands only matter when it comes to speedboosters because the optics will be different.

any of these brand make speedboosters from canon-sony. do your own research and comparisons and see what the trade-offs in sharpness are and how much you are willing to spend.
