Vans Sk8-Hi Pro
« on: October 13, 2020, 09:58:20 AM »
I have tried and I just cannot like this shoe. I find the fit so strange compared to all the other Vans I've owned. Current favorite is the suede Old Skool Pro.

Anyone else absolutely hate the Sk8 Hi Pros?

Tried some on a recommendation for wide shoes, yet they pinched and blistered my pinky toes anyway and I didn’t really ever enjoy skating them because they felt soooo clunky. Can’t remember the last time I had a good Vans experience, maybe some Era pros back when my feet/ankles could withstand that sort of punishment.

I guess it is down to the size or shape of your foot, but I find the regular sk8 hi are much more comfortable than the sk8 hi pro, which feels big to start with and blows out in the pairs I have had.  I have a pretty solid rotation of sk8 hi or old skool, not so often wearing eras and a few others like half cabs and even authentics nowdays.

I do strip out the inner of most regular versions and put a nice comfy pro type insole in which gives me the best of both worlds, but the full suede old skool pro is a winner when I can find them.

It also depends on how you lace the shoes up too, because tight sk8 hi shoes don't give your ankle much movement and I found some things felt really strange in the sk8 hi, compared to era or old skools.
I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I bought black/gum sk8-hi pros as chillers but the foxing started separating from the upper after a few wears so I got them swapped for some halfcabs but they let me keep the busted sk8his as well so I figured might as well skate them. Tried gluing the foxing back on but it didn't last and on the other shoe the sole started separating as well so there was something wrong with them.

Otherwise I liked the wide shape and the flick and pretty much everything about them, except that my lower back started hurting after every session so I had to get cupsoles instead. I am old.
take what small comfort there may be left
seize what you love and damn all the rest

In the pro sk8 hi, the vulc soles and the side vulc wall / foxing seem to come away a bit to often, especially round the pinky toe area where the stitched side part joins the front of the shoe, which has happened in quite a few I have had, which is why I prefer the regular sk8 hi, which doesn't have the same issue for the most part.

I got a pair of all black sk8his for chillers a few weeks ago.  The rest of my Vans are suede and I wanted to try a canvas shoe so got em in canvas and they look good and fit well. They could really benefit from ripping the cheap insole out and putting in a popcush.  I didn't get pros cuz I heard that with some models, pros have a different shape and possibly a tighter fit? Idk, not going to skate in them anyway.

Edit: Is it the reenforced stitching and duracap that make them fit tighter or do they have a different shape altogether on some pros compared to regs? I would love to know

It seems like a different shape, made more pronounced by the extra lip on the pro versions, but where the side panel joins the toe area, regulars have much less of a bump into the toe, which in turn I think is the soft spot so when you crouch down or squat, it flexes out the side which often comes away in that spot much more easily in the pro versions.

I should take pics to show what I mean.
