kubrik abused shelly duvall by making her do this scene hundreds of times until she was so exhausted to get the results he wanted out of her .. it’s said that she was never the same after what he put her through during the filming of this film

i fucking bet man...i can't believe her character and performance not only initially received "luke warm" reviews, but from what i understand people were really critical of it--i guess because she's so hysterical and distraught as shit unravels?

i'm fucking blown away by her performance of Wendy, seriously, and what you say makes total sense, because she seems genuinely exhausted and overwhelmed throughout the last half of the film especially...

I really can't do horror movies at all - i guess i'm a pussy, but I do really admire the shining. I had a terrible girlfriend that i never should have been with because she was a psycho and I was just a lonely depressed boy at the time - but she loved horror movies. I was able to convince her to watch the shining with me in place of whatever disturbing film she wanted to watch most of the time. So we watched it A LOT and got into all the theories and shit.

i haven't watched it since being with her, which is like 6 or 7 years ago now.

this doesn't much to the conversation but when i think of the shining the thing that pops most into my mind is just how the opening credits are blue. i really love that. not sure why, but that really stands out in my memory.

One of my favorite movie-going experiences was seeing The Shining at a local art house theatre that was serving spiked punch and free popcorn during Halloween night. The film definitely has a special place in my heart. Love all the theories too even though most of it is pure nonsense, fun nonsense though.

It's also interesting that out of all the films released during Kubricks career during 1960 - 1987, The Shining was the only one to not be nominated for any Oscars. Not that anyone should consider the Academy the master delegate of quality mind you.

its a pretty good movie. i dont subscribe to any of those crazy theories but i am pretty sure that the movie is subtextually directly about my life and my inner life and its speaking directly to me and my every move speaks directly back to it for what its worth i think the changeling is equally good and often overlooked in the horror classics conversation
